Great video. I live in the UK and unfortunately mods for American vehicles do not come cheap here, especially if we have to ship them ourselves. I have a 2013 Silverado and the best I could get here through a private sale was a Leer Topper from a 2005 Silverado. It's a pretty good match for size but I need to trim off the lower tab that is meant to sit over the outside of the body. I guess the body shape changed from the 2005 model to my 2013?
Wow a silverado in the UK. I've been over there a few times and never saw one. That's cool. Yeah the body style changed halfway into the 2007 year. You'll need a topper for the 2007.5 to 2013 model years. Anything before that will be a pretty poor fit.
@@HarrisonsGarage Yeh I think there's only 8 Silverados over here total. I have been driving American for 18 years now since I was 18 and don't plan on driving anything else. Had an 88 Camaro Iroc Z-28 for my first car. Then 2005 Mustang GT ( big mistake ). Now I have the 2013 Silverado. Still have them all, definitely won't part with the Camaro. I have all the original state side purchase documents as well. Biggest problem like I said is parts and fuel here cost £1.27 a litre.........
You got the best side windows. I had those on my first Leer topper. It was great they slid all the way open, nothing to go wrong. I got the more expensive suv style ones for my current Silverado. The expensive ones suck and the twist knob only lets the longer side windows open up on the bottom like 2 inches. FYI Leer sells special stronger Pet Screens for your side windows. FYI, I am in TN, where are you?
Yeah I saw the SUV windows but didn't like how they don't fully open as well. I didn't shell out for the pet screen since I was thinking I may cut the screen out entirely so the dog could stick his head out. Based on CA!
I wish I never bought my truck topper. Leer 122 I had it in the shop 7 times for leaks and mechanical issues with the lock and windowdoor placement. Awful stressful experience. Also my rubber seals around the windows was blue from the sun brand new.
I can definitely see where you're coming from. I only owned it for about 8 months before selling the truck. My window seals were also faded from the factory but I didn't have any of the other issues you mentioned though it was still fairly new.
Oh man that's a bummer. It definitely felt like some of the components on mine were sitting in a warehouse for a while before it was built. I never had any issues with functionality though I only had it for a year.
Does just fine. Between the backflip and peragon bed covers and this, the leer never leaked, not a drop. Held up great going through the car wash and never had an issue.
I believe you can. The weight limit for the caps is measured in static weight (non driving weight) and should be plenty for a tent. Leer themselves sells a rooftop tent that can handle 600lbs static weight.
Looking back at my invoice it does look like the screen was standard. The extras were the headliner, removable front window, roof tracks, dome light, and possibly the 3rd brake light.
It's an option to can get. My rear window on my cab doesn't open so u didn't get that option on the topper. My topper window is removable so I can clean it after cat washes
your lack of knowledge about truck toppers / camper shells is obvious. Curved glass? How do you think glass is made? Sides not tinted? Flimsy back plastic ? You are probably a nice person , this is not a personal attack. You got a great shell and a good install. you should be happy with the leer.
Geez man I'm just saying this would be a great way to improve upon the quality of the product. Windshield glass is curved. Surely the could do the same here.
It can come off though it's not a super quick process. It's 4 bolts and a couple wiring harnesses to unplug. Unless you have a couple people, it's almost necessary to have a ceiling host to hold it
On Amazon. You can check out my video where I install and wire it up. ua-cam.com/video/VL4p4BQovZ8/v-deo.html Here's the link to the switch: www.amazon.com/Yakamoz-Momentary-Button-Connector-Adapter/dp/B01HDJSV0Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=yakamoz+dc12v+19mm+3%2F4"&qid=1599787636&sr=8-1 I believe the blue LED light ring is currently out of stock.
I didn't. I actually ended up selling the truck about a year after getting the topper (with covid the used car prices really jumped) but I agree some of the plastic components on the leer left much to be desired.
Very good thorough review thank you
I like it, it looks like a suburban
I think curved glass would be too difficult and costly to implement as sliding window. I think curved windows usually only hinge out a few inches.

@@matthall7822 yeah those big displacement naturally aspirated V8s are definitely out of place over there.

@@HarrisonsGarage what u mean based on california? Is there some regulation?
@@ia6980 no regulation. I said based in CA in response to OP who asked where I was based saying he was based in TN.

Long burrito 😂
Now that he mentioned, wow it looks like a burrito 🌯 😳 ....i guess thats how my ranger gonna look...thats sucks
What was the button at the back of the truck box @ 8:05?
It acts as an override switch for my bedlights. Check out the link here for my full video on how I set it up. ua-cam.com/video/VL4p4BQovZ8/v-deo.html
How did you make that bedside
Looks good
I've got a build series for the bedslide if your interested - part 1 is here: ua-cam.com/video/cl1X_0QABdw/v-deo.html
My removable window leaks around the bottom corners when it rains. The topper is two years old.😢
Oh man that's a bummer. It definitely felt like some of the components on mine were sitting in a warehouse for a while before it was built. I never had any issues with functionality though I only had it for a year.
How does it do in an automatic car wash?
Does just fine. Between the backflip and peragon bed covers and this, the leer never leaked, not a drop. Held up great going through the car wash and never had an issue.
can you put a roof top tent on the Leer or will it get funky on the highway driving conditions
I believe you can. The weight limit for the caps is measured in static weight (non driving weight) and should be plenty for a tent. Leer themselves sells a rooftop tent that can handle 600lbs static weight.
Do you know any measurements? Like how tall it is from bed to top of door opening?
Unfortunately I don't. I sold the truck last year and didn't take any measurements like that before doing so.
Hi does the screen mesh of the side windows come standard?
Looking back at my invoice it does look like the screen was standard. The extras were the headliner, removable front window, roof tracks, dome light, and possibly the 3rd brake light.
Are you going to put a topper on the Ram?
Right now I'm running the retrax one bed cover and love it so no plans to put a topper on the ram for now.
Curved glass? Really. So where were you when the installer was "installing"? Why did you let them leave the rear trim piece as is?
Does the front window open? The one near the crew cab. I may have missed it
It's an option to can get. My rear window on my cab doesn't open so u didn't get that option on the topper. My topper window is removable so I can clean it after cat washes
Did you watch the video? Lol
@@kevinkeener2058 Read my last sentence and your question will be answered
What did you end up paying?
Out the door installed cost $2,666
Does the cap lock?
Yep. It comes with its own set of keys.
It would look so much better if you just blacked out all those windows completely.
Agree it would be a great look. As a daily driver tough I take it down some dark back roads in winter that would be difficult to see out of
How much did it cost
I had mine installed in 2020 for $2,665

For what size bed is that she’ll?
That's the 6 foot 6 inch bed.
Hey just be happy you aren’t driving a van
hope you never need to replace sliding window latch, can not get one, that is why Leer SUCKS

Caution there customer service is the worst
Good to know. I have since sold the truck and gone a different route on my Ram - back to the bed covers.
Hahaha non lifted trucks while yours looks like a skateboard with those baby wheels
