New Product: Riflespeed Adjustable AR-15 Gas Block

  • With the rise in popularity of sound suppressors, as well as pistol and SBR configurations, an adjustable gas block has become a common fixture on many AR-15s. It's also a necessity if you shoot a lot of different types of ammo - the AR-15 being sensitive to differences in gas flow generated by different ammo. Riflespeed's Gas Controls adjustable gas block makes it easy to change the gas flow in few seconds. This low-profile gas block slips over the barrel and snugs down over the gas port via a setscrew in the bottom or, for added security, a roll pin. The big difference from other adjustable gas blocks is the adjustment SLEEVE on the FRONT of the block that lets you literally "dial up" as much or as little gas flow as you need. Extra benefit: you don't have to worry about having the correct Allen wrench so you can adjust your gas block. The Gas Control is a great option on an AR where the front of the handguard is just behind the gas block. If your 'guard extends over the gas block, Riflespeed has Gas Controls with longer adjustment sleeves so a quick change of gas flow is still easily within reach. These blocks do require special gas tubes; don't worry, Brownells carries those, too.

    This is definitely the way to go with the gas block. This is pretty much arguably the best gas block you can get. The only problem...it's going to get very hot.

    • @Pyreleaf
      @Pyreleaf 2 роки тому

      Maybe not. If the adjustment collar is aluminum, it'll shed heat pretty fast. I don't know if it is, but it would make sense. Besides, you'll probably only need to mess with it when you're dialing in a particular load.

    I like that system, as it will have a lot more torque to move a crusty pin than an allen cap screw or set screw... Great setup for us reloaders.
    Edit: sweet. OG style straight gas tube. That would get a nod of approval from Saint Eugene.

      Far as I’m aware, the M16/AR platform has always had a bent gas tube from pretty much inception. This created a weak point on purpose, as the gas tube will blow/give way before the barrel does during a lot of shooting. Not only is it a lot safer for this to happen, but it’s also a far easier and cheaper part to replace than a barrel.

    Just got to play with one of these a couple days ago. Brilliant product. I like it much better than Allen wrench style blocks because there’s nothing to vibrate loose. The detents are nice and tight so rattling around in a car mount or 4-wheeler won’t mess it up. Super easy going back and forth for suppressors. The ONLY draw back that I see is you can’t tuck your can inside the hand guard if you want access to adjust the block. And the price is spicy.

That’s if you don’t have to switch barrels or handguards. “Wear gloves”, so now instead of carrying a wrench I have to carry gloves….. Don’t forget about the proprietary gas tube needed for this one. Sounds like a lot of money for a bunch of unneeded/unwanted purchases where a $100 SA block will do the same thing. And not look gaudy as shit in the process. Also, once dialed, how many people are even adjusting their gas blocks? How many people even own adjustable gas blocks to begin with?

      @harryhog1977 2 роки тому +1

      @Robert Ozee I bought it for the cloud defense cor (9.5") on a 12.5" barrel 556. But it didn't fit so I moved it to a 9" jag composite on a 10.5" 556 and it technically fit, but the gas tube was really tight, that it bent the tube a bit, and might even burned my hand because its so close the mlok rail gaps (both mid length). Only because I shoot suppressed alot I tried to put it on my SPR; so I just wrestled with a 14" BLK LBL on a 18" 556 rifle length and it didn't work out. So now I'll move it to a Pantheon Dolos 8.5" with a 10" barrel .300BO with a pistol length, and it seems like it might work out just based off of measurements.
      I only purchased this because I just got the FRT-15 and wanted something easy to adjust when working at those kinds of speeds. But if you ask me, I should have just stuck with my adjustable BCG from Bootleg. If you've got more than 1 AR and shoot suppressed, adjustable BCG is the way to go. It costs about the same price and it moveable between AR platforms and is caliber friendly. I bought this out of hope and curiosity, but in the end wish I would have just bought more ammo instead.

However, If i have run into issues & can't fix it w/ the bcg I correct it w/ the buffer system (the bcg has 4 different settings). But it definitely makes life easier if you have multiple platforms. The riflespeed is exactly what makes this country/community great, it's forward thinking & outside the box. I just don't know if the 1st gen is worth what it's worth. @hairydogstail 2 роки тому +3

      The adj gas block won't increase gas if the rifle is under gassed. The adj gas block works well with over gassed rifles and barrels since most commercial barrel makers drill their barrel ports to function with the weakest ammunition like Wolf and Tula. These barrels with over sized gas ports will be over gassed with NATO spec ammunition which is where the adj gas block shines by tuning the ammunition to the rifle.. If you don't put a lot of ammunition down range or plan on using only the ammunition that works best in your rifle, then a standard gas block is best..

    • @jwilsonhandmadeknives2760
      @jwilsonhandmadeknives2760 2 роки тому +1

      99% of the time a fixed block is all you need. But there are reasons for an adjustable block such as when using a suppressor or when trying to adjust for a problem like slowing down an overgassed gun, or in combat- allowing more gas to push a filthy crusty bolt.

    • @williambell7763
      @williambell7763 2 роки тому

      Unless you're going to tune it to one load and explicitly shoot that, or are shooting competition and want the absolutely lightest recoil impulse possible, theyre kinda a waste. I don't like them since my method of using them would amount to tuning it to run on cheap low powered ammo with a margin for it being dirty/cold, which usually leaves me right around where good barrels are gassed anyway, its more of a bandaid for bad gas porting then an actual fix for a problem. If you have a cheapo gun that is solid excluding a gas port that is so wide it'll run the weakest ammo on the market in the middle of an Alaskan winter, they're an easy bandaid, first choice would be a barrel that is ported correctly, then a gas restricting gas tube is probably next, then adjustable gas block. At least thats my view on the topic, mostly influenced by the fact that I don't want my guns to stop running, so I try to set a system up and leave it there, which leaves me typically still "overgassed." I have also seen rifles become really picky accuracy wise when moving to light operating systems, ie an otherwise bughole shooting barrel will then shoot whichever load its tuned to well, and the rest of the ammo you put through it significantly worse then it normally would. The best shooting rifle I currently have is a 18" barrel with a .095 rifle length gas port, and a rifle buffer with all steel weights (approx 2-3oz heavier then normal) so I lean twords a heavier reciprocating mass for consistency, it has more recoil then if it was tuned to be knifes edge for impulse, but it is still very smooth
