Trust mr smeegle is feeling a bit better. I'm a cat lover myself. With that in mind you said he weighed about 5 lbs. I may be wrong but he looks nearer 10lbs. Do you have the facility to weigh him as you may need to up the amount of medication you could give him . Best wishes from the UK.

Kevin and I have had a few dogs get bit by copperheads in the past so we've had experience with this type of situation. Our local vets have always told us to administer benadryl and keep a close eye on them incase their condition worsens. That's exactly what Kevin and I did.
We're very thankful Smeegle got better.

I had a cat that was stung in the eye by a scorpion Almost killed him. He was at the vet intensive care for 3 days. They were able to save him thank God!

My Kiki didn't make it after being biten by a copperhead! I held her taking her last breath.😢That bite was intended for me n she took the bite..she lived a few hrs n I cried for days n days! Losing any pet is hard!!

I'm in GA. My brother was bit by a copperhead. The dummy thought it was a rubber snake and tried to pick it up. He said about the time he picked it up he realized he didn't have a rubber snake, why you should not over do your beer consumption. That snake latched onto his thumb and would not let go. He was able to cut the snake off. He got to feeling bad and called 911. The EMTs were the ones that told him it was a copperhead. He spent a long time in a hospital in downtown ATL because they were more knowledgeable of snake bites and because they could not get the swelling down. I sure hope Smeagle gets to feeling better quickly.
Your firtunate that the Copperhead in USA, is not extremely venomous. Many of our Australian venomous snakes, MUST get antivene treatment or highly likely fatal.
Some not uncommon local snakes, depending on area, are very dangerous. In the last month was a snake catcher bite on the hand when his snake grabber tool broke while catching a Tiger Snake, it gave a very intense bite, and as the venom is among the most dangerous in the world, the snake catcher was unconscious within 20min, and barely survived with intense Antivene treatment in hospital ER, given within the hour.
Here in Australia a venomous snake bite should NEVER be left without antivene treatment, fortunately our cost for Antivene is apparently FAR lower cost, only in hundreds or less, to that in the US, where it is to my knowledge, like much medical care, VERY EXPENSIVE.
For us greatest danger is often the distances to medical care given our remote sparsely populated country, causing time critical delays for treatment.
I said a prayer as soon as Kevin said what happened to Mr. Smeagle. I was so happy to see the swelling had gone down and he was doing much better the next day.
OMG so thankful Deputy Smeagle is OK. My heart dropped when I saw the victim of the video title was Smeagle. He is such a character and I love to watch his antics following you around during feeding.

I have a dachshund who was bit by a small copperhead last year. His face blew up like a balloon. Took him to the vet & he got a shot. They kept him to monitor for a couple of days & and he recovered fully. Good luck & prayers your kitty does as well.

Diphenhydramine (Benedryl) is an antihistamine that is frequently given to humans AND animals after a reaction. My dog once was stung by a bee and his face swelled, and we called the vet right away. We gave him the Benedryl and it was effective. You can see in the video how reduced the swelling was in a matter of hours.
So glad Smeagle made it through the night and looks so much better. Prayers for a full recovery

Your animals are a reflection of your family Kevin. You're super loving, supportive and protective towards eachother and all your animals, but particularly your domesticated four-footed family and it certainly shows in the way they interact with you and eachother. I love watching your videos and pray for little Smeag's full recovery....he's been a character cat since the day you brought him and Gracie home as little kittens. He was lucky the strike hit the lower part of his paw....where I come from NOTHING survived a snakebite. 😭

Smeagle should recover. He took the medicine. Whenever I gave her liquid medicine, my late cat foamed at the mouth and ran around like a headless chicken, shaking her head at the same time🙄🙄🙄

Kevin I don’t mean to interfere or be rude but when you give cats liquid medicine go in thru the side of the mouth instead of straight through the middle of his mouth. That way it won’t choke him and it will go down better. I had a vet show me a few years ago and he also gave me a little tool that you could insert pills and capsules in and with that you go down the middle anyway just an idea. Prayer for him and love you guys. Be safe, enjoy your life and God Bless

A doctor that I worked for had their tiny Yorkie bitten by a copperhead. They took him to the vet and they didn’t really give him any meds and he recovered very nicely and quickly. He was protecting one of their grown sons, so he was the hero!!! Hope Smeagle heals quickly! 🥺

Smeegle was attacked by a venomous snake & will hopefully be ok. Walker Farm Fam lost their long time pet dog; Jojo; to coyotes & was killed. I’m too much of an animal lover to hear of these conditions. It breaks my heart!💔 Lots of love, Doc

My neighbors dog got bit by a timber rattler snake on the neck and all they gave her was Benadryl. She lucked out that that was a place that had plenty of room for swelling because it definitely swelled up pretty big but she survived on Benadryl. Glad Smigel made it OK good quick thinking thank you for being you and for doing what you do🐾❤️🐾

I'm very glad that Smeegle is going to be okay, he's a tough cat. Russel is such a good puppy, listens and is docile towards the animals. Maybe Smeegle has been teaching him how to be a good friend to everyone. Nice seeing Kyah, she has the most beautiful smile, her whole face lights up. Our Jake, a golden setter, family dog got bitten protecting his mom several times on the face one summer day while on a walk. We called the vet immediately and I ran to the store to get the needed dosages of Benadryl for him. He recovered well. Always medication to have on hand for any of us, human or pet. I thought it was Mojo from the thumbnail. I hope your kitty gets better soon. That medicine will make him sleepy, so that too will help him heal. He may not eat well for a few days, so try to keep him hydrated. I know you all love Smeegle and I hope he recovers quickly. Try to keep him still and comfortable for a few days. Love you all~

Water Moccasins (aka Cotton Mouth) swim with their head held up out of the water most of the time. They're short, stout, and can be aggressive. This Florida gal knows her venomous snakes. Glad Mr Smeagle is doing better today.
