Volkswagen Tiguan 2022 Review: See WHY the 162TSI R-Line is the one I've been WAITING FOR!

- It's not often I get excited to drive an SUV, but the 2022 162TSI R-Line Tiguan is next level. This thing is quick - quicker than a GTI yet is powered by the same EA888 derived engine! It's also a great family SUV, with loads of room. This thing does it all, and in today's review, I'm going to show you why this facelifted Tiguan is so popular!
The Tiguan competes with cars like the Ford Escape, Mazda CX-5, Toyota Rav4 and Honda CR-V. Which would you take?

Thanks for giving it some beans. It really does perform really well!
wow this is my next car. I am waiting and see what vw will come up with in 2 years
Very fun to watch your reviews mate. I can totally see your passion for cars. Keep up the good work. Always good to see local content👍🏼 . From an 2019 162 R-Line owner. Love the car to the bits but only two gripe is the cup holders are very hard to use and the interior build quality is not up to the mark. Lot of rattling inside the cabin because of poor quality build. Been to the dealership for atleast 5-6 times to get some warranty work done due to the build quality like failed front driver and passenger grab handle spring, rear seats rattling, fuel pump line rattling, heat shield rattling, rear window lock switch spring failed and started rattling. This is all in only two year of car ownership. Lucky got everything fixed under warranty. But Saying all that i will still forget everything when i sit behind the wheel and hear the upshift farts 😜. For the price i am very happy with the driving fun it gives me everytime i drive.
I have the same problem with my MK6 GTI (everything rattles, sometimes the weirdest things) and I was really hoping newer VWs are built better. Doesn’t seem like it, unfortunately!
Great enthusiasm in your vids, Matt. Good to see more local content creators.
Wow ! Loved all your reviews ...
I want to get one ... but, what do you suggest ? 162tsi R-line or wait for Tiguan R ?
We are likely updating our 2016 GTI Performance (looove that car) for the Monochrome 162 TSI. Test driving tomorrow.
Monochrome was great to drive. Not quite the mongrel that the GTI-P is. But I haven’t gotten used to throttle response and car overall yet. Plenty of juice to be happy enough.
Best looking mid sized suv on the market, what an upgrade it has had with the most recent facelift! Was never a fan of the pre facelift model...
Hey, I have driven that car here in Germany on the highway with 235kph, with the 2.0 245HP (180KW) engine, its fun to drive it at this speed. In Germany you can get it with wireless charger, its called business package. And it’s totally worth to get the Harman system, its way better then Golf Harman system. Best wishes from Germany
One addition in Germany it has digital radio (DAB+) , even the base model of Tiguan has it, I wonder why it doesn’t has it in Australia.
Oddly NO Volkswagen in Australia has DAB…yet other VW brands like Skoda all do? It’s cheap, cost cutting on behalf of VW, though like-for-like, the cars are in fact a fair bit cheaper here than in Germany
I have the new MK8 Golf and facelifted 162 Tiguan, both have the Harmon Kardon sound system…. Harmon in the Tiguan is a lot better than the golf, especially bass. Worthwhile option to tick if u ask me
Good to know! Thanks Scott 🙂
Great review Matt, but saying it’s quick is a bit of an overstatement IMO. After testing one recently I just found it a bit meh, although they look nice. Keen for the Cupra Ateca to arrive in Oz.
Fair enough - but 6.1 seconds 0-100 felt very quick! Might have been the launch control helping out a bit though 😅... Super keen for Cupra!
I think if you're comparing it to any other car in it's class it's definitely a lot quicker than any of its competitors by a reasonable margin.
@@CarSauce which is quicker across the board, this or an (AWD) Escape?
If it was your money, this or the Vignale (which is 5k -8k cheaper)?
The Tiguan 162TSI is definitely the drivers mid-size SUV. Love the review. Did the new 162TSI lose the little drawer thingy's under the front seats??
I think only with these Vienna leather seats! I know the 110TSI had it under the passenger seat only :(
As far as I'm aware, the early 162TSI didn't come with an electric front passenger seat and therefore had a draw under the seat.
@@djestar correct, I've got the 2018 stormtrooper with electric front passenger seat
Just ordered one of these, however in the UK we get 245ps (180kw) engine. Cannot wait!!
How’s your 1 year review? I’m considering buy mine these days :)
@@ManoloRafael afraid it never turned up. Waited and waited and waited. Cancelled my order and bought something else.
@@witton6475 oh no! So sorry to hear that! I put down a down payment and they said i should get the car in January; let’s see!
What did you end up getting? & how has the experience been?
@@ManoloRafael CUPRA Formentor. Love it.
Congrats! Enjoy in good health!
Glad that they didn't remove the DSG farts
Easy on the caffeine son!
🤘🏼
Seatback pockets are for mobile phones.
Sixty five hundred dollars you say? That IS a bargain!
2021 or 2022?
2021. They have upped the power on the 2022. Not sure why this video says 2022.
Fun to drive, gorgeous to look, terrible to own
Why?
Why?
Whats with the fake exhaust tips these days??
VW/Audi equivalent to green hair. Hopefully, they'll grow out of it.
Why he kept farting?
The car has lactose intolerance. Must need high test
Another ‘performance’ SUV…..Pass
As long as its because of the car and not because of me, I'm totally fine with that :D
@@CarSauce I’ll watch your reviews out of curiosity, even if the car you’re reviewing doesn’t interest me.
@@CathodeRayNipplez maybe I’ll give it a shot one day lol
What your problem with Mexico, mister….grow up. Thank you ☺️
