@@mick40jb No. Read the court papers. He won his cases hands down. And FBI surveilled him for some 10 or more years unbeknownst to him and closed their case after having found nothing. RIP Michael Jackson
Isn’t it a bit ironic that at 10 years old he would be dubbed ‘’The 40 year old midget’’, yet when he was 40 he would find joy in the same thing as a 10 year old would?
It is ironic but also sad, it really shows how he had grow up so much sooner than other kids...but he compensated for it when he grew up and i personally find that endearing.
He is NOT lip syncing on I Want You Back. That show also features a lovely performance of him singing Maybe Tomorrow. Being confident about the lip syncing is obnoxious when you’re wrong...Dancing Machine is a dub though. A lot of the times when he sang live as a child it sounded just like the recording, because he’s just that good.
In the 70s-80s there was a rivalry between Jermaine and Michael actually. Jermaine was the original lead singer of the group, but was replaced by Michael. Jermaine told everyone and was sure that the “Thriller” album would flop…it didn’t which lead to that iconic moment at the Grammys where Michael said: “I love all my brothers….including Jermaine”. After Michael’s bad album was released, Jermaine made a song. called “Word 2 the bad” dissing Michael, and it was hinted that Michael took the song down from all radio stations. Despite all of this shade, they were still brothers at the end of the day and this stuff happens. Later on, in the 90s and 2000s, Jermaine was actually Michael’s biggest supporter and become one of his closest friends until his death in 2009, helping him through all the horrific allegations and depression in his life ❤

His 1993 Superbowl halftime show is still the best of all time IMHO. The way he stood still like a statue for at least 10 minutes with the crowd screaming, after he popped up on the stage, was epic!!!
Kev E. Kev Yeah. you can usually tell when he’s lip syncing and when he isn’t. If it doesn’t sound exactly like the studio version, it’s likely live lol
You can tell when they move away from the mic whether the voice dims or not. Mj has sung live countless of times and sounded amazing but he prob wasn’t in some of these
Produced by Kev is absolutely correct. Michael is LIVE and brothers' BGs and music are pre-recorded. Check out the vid from their first American Bandstand performance and you will hear that it is the exact same recording of the band and background vocals. Jermaine, Jackie, and Michael's leads are LIVE. The slight difference on AB is Johnny's slamming those high-hat symbols on his drum set. Lol ua-cam.com/video/eLlFdWK226Q/v-deo.html. Also check out the first time they appeared on the Andy Williams Show. Michael, Jermaine and Jackie were LIVE vocals but with the same pre-recorded music and background. At the time they performed for the "Going Back To Indiana" television special, for whatever reason, they were still using the same prerecorded music in the first half hour of the special. the second half hour was totally LIVE. The other way you can tell that it is canned music is by watching Jermaine's fingers not following the patterns of the actual bass line. Watch them on the Diana Ross Special and you will see this even more clearly. The other key is in Tito's guitar playing which is using a wah wah pedal that one has to step on with their foot to produce that wah wah sound. You will see that Tito has no such pedal. Watch the LIVE performance from their "Going Back To Indiana Special while singing the same song, "Feeling Alright", to see the difference. That is where Tito IS using a wah wah pedal. ua-cam.com/video/tDPxPrM1FcU/v-deo.html. This should end the debate. ua-cam.com/video/Sj4gTCVx3l8/v-deo.html. While we appreciate your wanting to highlight Michael and the J5, it is clear to me Ken that you don't know much about them, especially to not even know the difference between Jermaine and Jackie, and to not know that Quincy Jones had NOTHING to do with the J5's music. Quincy came in when MJ decided to play the scarecrow in The Wiz. But I still give you points for at least wanting to showcase them and I appreciate your great spirit. The other mistake you and others make is in presenting them as Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five. NONE of their albums ever said "Michael Jackson & the Jackson Five". The ONLY one to ever introduce them as such was Diana Ross while hosting The Hollywood Palace in 1969, at which point it is said that Joe Jackson became enraged. ua-cam.com/video/Sj4gTCVx3l8/v-deo.html
That's a tough call, would they have made it so big without their father pushing them. Look at Serena and Venus Williams, their father pushing them looks like a good thing, but I remember a kid being pushed to be a NFL QB and that didn't work out. This ain’t lip sync. Yes a lot of performances were done that way on t.v. back then, but to anyone from that era, which I am at a year younger than Mike, they know his original vocal of I Want You Back to the point of every inflection. The song was released, & they 1st performed it on t.v. In 1969. Michael was younger & probably sang the song in a different key. This is a couple years later on their special, ‘Goin Back to Indiana’ in 1971. You can hear the difference here in MJ’s voice being a little deeper, & he’s got some vocal inflection ad libs that are clearly spontaneous. If this were Soul Train, I could understand assuming it was lip sync & mimed, but the Jackson 5 had a pretty consistent record of bringin it live, & this being their own variety special, they would sure have that choice. Dancin Machine was a sync, no doubt. The one who’s outfit you pointed out is the oldest brother, Jackie Jackson, who also had the highest voice. Jermaine played electric bass, was usually to Michael’s left, & was the 2nd most featured voice of the group. He, like Mike, was also quite precocious in his more raspy toned vocal style, as could be heard on their Jackson Five Christmas album, singing lead on classics, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, & Christmas Song, as well as some of their ‘B’ side tracks like, Daddy’s Home, I Am Love, & their cover of Stevie’s My Cherie Amour. On sibling issues: I remember reading back then that Jackie preferred Jermaine’s voice to Michael’s. On Janet: ‘other stuff’? She was 3 when they hit big time. To this day, Janet’s single, ‘That’s the Way Love Goes’, is distinguished as having the longest time at number 1 on the Billboard hot 100 charts, of any Jackson single, ever. That includes Thriller & any others. She’s also appeared in 18 big screen features. Definitely carved her own legacy. There may have been some strange sib rivalry towards her from Mike actually.
Something i always wondered about Michael Jackson's vocal technique was his odd vibrato... Like, his vibrato was more like a breathy tremolo effect than a normal pitch vibrato, i can't think how else to describe it. Of course all the hiccups and stuff as well, while so many people want to sound like Whitney Houston etc he really created his own style of singing which is just a small part of what made him so unique.
Great video, thanks Ken. Love MJ. I know the majority of his live stuff from concert tours right up until the early 90s was all sung live rather than lipsync; like you said, it was just the way television was back then. Would be great to see a reaction to some of that stuff. :)
Jermaine was absolutely jealous of Michael. He even released a diss track called "word to the badd". Over time he became ok with Michael's success, but for a while he was very jealous.
No matter what his demons were later in his life, he was certainly always very talented. There will never be anyone else quite like him. He was probably the most famous person on the planet in 1984-1985.
What a treat. Have not seen much of MJ as a youngster. So talented from the beginning. Thanks, Ken, for reacting to all types of music. Love your perspective on singing, the production etc on rock plus other music.
There’ll never be another performer like Michael Jackson. He pioneered dance pop r&b fusion style that dominates the charts today. Also Re sibling rivalry, didnt Michael poke fun at Jermaine a lot for some reason lol?
MJ was such a wonderful, kind, loving, caring, wise, peaceful human being. Let's spread the message of love and peace! Thank you so much for these videos, Ken!
He didn’t start to learn the Moonwalk (called the Backslide at that time) until around the end of Off The Wall or near the start of the Thriller era. He learnt perfected the move and then busted it out on stage for the first time in that Billie Jean performance
I had to watch this more than once; One to watch MJ & his brothers and again to watch you Ken! You had me laughing so hard I snorted! 😂 Great stuff! Love it!
On the I want you back video they were singing live not lip synching I have the live album of the TV show!! That show was the Jackson 5 Going back to Indiana special!!
Ken, been waiting for your react on Michael Jackson’s technique! It’s too bad the videos involved lip-singing. I’ve heard you say a bunch of time you prefer pre-pubescent Michael’s vocals. It’d be great to hear why you think this is the case. I know Michael lacked proper diaphragmatic support and thus could not belt much in his upper register. Eventually, he had to rely on a very gritty sound to belt high notes. I still believe that even without the best technique his voice was awesome during his 20s. I kind of want to know how he could still rock it with the subpar technique. A vocal reaction to any song in the Bad Tour of the late 80s would be amazing to see-and it would be informative to all of us about imperfect technique and anaerobic singing
Gosh what a perceptional rythm you need to dance and sing at the same time. You either hear my throat bumping up and down due to momentum. Or it ends up in a cheeky composition. And I'm not even bad at all.
He is the only artist that gets mentioned when talking about The Beatles. Thank you Ken. Terrific video on MJ. I am not ashamed to admit during my head banging metal days in the 80s, I was a closet Jackson fan🤘
Michael was a fan of soul train and would practices the dances he would watch on that show and intemperate it in his own way. He got alot of his moves from old black n white musicals\dance movies. the moonwalk came from some 1930's movie, vaudeville stuff.
I dont think he's lip syncing the first song. It's not the album cut at all. would they have recorded it pre show and then lip synced it during? like at 3:03 his first real inspiration for dancing was form Jackie Wilson. But he had guys bring stuff to him when he was older that was the hype when he was too famous to go out of the house. the '88 Wimbledon performance (i think '88) he's singing live and dancing. 'Another Part of Me' is amazing display of it.
Ok, this one is frustrating me a bit. The vocals to the first song, I Want You Back, were clearly live (dancing machine was not though), they are very different from his recorded vocals, its a very early performance but his voice was already starting to change here from when they recorded the song. The brother pointed outnin the "superman" looking clothes was the oldest brother Jackie. Jermaine is the brother furthest to Michaels left, right of screen playing bass, who he said had cool hair. Left of screen to right it was Tito, Marlon, Jackie, Michael Jermaine. That chabged a bit later on when younger brother Randu joined the group playing bongos so they had all 6 brothers briefly just when performing live, then when they left Motown Jermaine stayed with Motown and Randy took his place to keep 5 brothers in the group.after they released a few albums, and reuniting for Motown 25, Jermaine joined them for some more albums and the Victory Tour.
To answere the question about his Dancing. There are multiple artists. The smooth criminal video was inspired by a work by fred astaire, the panther dance was inspired by fred astair. His wiggling feet are inspired by james brown. And the moonwalk by jeffrey Daniels, bill baily did it in the fifties and also the mime Marcel marceau had a similar move to the moonwalk. The same thing for dancing singing and beatboxing. But there is one difference. On soultrain they mostly did those moves as a fun party dance. Michael incorporated different dynamics in his dance he had flashy moments, easy parts so the crowd can connect (they don't care about us) and he also built a story around his moves. It's the same for singing. Everyone can learn how to belt, how to throat sing sing, how to do deathgrowls, screams, belcanto, how to rap or what so ever. But then the different between "well it's impressiv but awfull" to " how did he do it, it's amazing" lays in the storytelling. And that's why he got famouse for his moves after motown 25. For singing AND dancing. I think I noticed somethings. 1. He often just alternated between dancing and singing. You can see it on billie jean. When he sings he is just grooving while he dances you hear no phrase actually. 2. When he does it at the same time he sings staccato so his voice doesn't do bumps. (On that part As a beatboxer I can tell. If one thing constantly beats then the other two parts can alternate and it will sound like all three if them are simultanlously. If I do billie jean without the drums you hear that I hust alternate between bassline and strings. But with the drums it sounds like I do both, string and bass at the same time.)
Nice reaction Ken. I always thought Michael had the best voice of a child, ever. He would come on Wonderama and sing and do the moon walk when we were kids.
You can see in Michael Jackson from when he was little he was going to be big. A true King of Pop! fuck Leaving Neverland and Long live Michael Jackson!

LOL I can't stop smiling and laughing! Gone are the "groggies".. I'm awake and alert now! Time for my KTVA lessons. Any chance, speaking of choreography and outfits.. that you might do a reaction video of KC and the Sunshine band, back in the day?? Rock on, Ken! :-)
You should react to the Jackson Medley (1988/07/06) or to Smooth Criminal (1988, Wembley). Michael is singing live and dancing at the same time. It's fantastic.
What an awesome talent he is. I say that in the present tense, cause, we always can reference it as in this performance. Another child vocalist that was incredible, was Frankie Lymon. IF you haven't done so yet, perhaps Lymon or Jackie Wilson (his danny boy) are awesome.
Yep, SOP for all "live" music shows back then (with very few exceptions, if any) were to have a studio track playing during recording/broadcast to ensure there were no issues, as you never know what will happen during a true live performance.
you say he is playbacking, but i am seeing the (don't know what it is called that blue vain in the neck that pops up when you sing, with harder tones as well!) which of course wouldn't show if you playback... and 4:16 when he goes down you can hear him being softer like he is more away from the mic, but when he moves back up his voice picks up again i think it is possibly a mix of it (which is something he did more often because of his dancing)

He didn’t start to learn the Moonwalk (called the Backslide at that time) until around the end of Off The Wall or near the start of the Thriller era. He learnt perfected the move and then busted it out on stage for the first time in that Billie Jean performance
Thanks for sharing, XscaoeTheThriller!
Michael was so awesome !!!
Hugs from Brazil.
I had to watch this more than once; One to watch MJ & his brothers and again to watch you Ken! You had me laughing so hard I snorted! 😂 Great stuff! Love it!
Ellexis 😁
He’s always attributed his moves to watching others and putting his own spin on it. I have documentaries that show him practicing his choreography.
On the I want you back video they were singing live not lip synching I have the live album of the TV show!! That show was the Jackson 5 Going back to Indiana special!!
Thanks for the input, Brad!

Omg what can i say? He's MJ. I was a kid in the 80s. I think people who witnessed the 70s and 80s were lucky.
Ersen Asper 👍
Well, well, well Ken. You got moves too. I love watch how much you love music. You always make it so much fun.
Glad you enjoy it!
YESSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS REACTION FOREVER!!
Hope it was worth the wait, Kendrick! ua-cam.com/video/B0btUNCPYEs/v-deo.html
Do one reacting to adult MJ's vocals, that would be cool to see :)
You are so right his smile is so contagious
What better Birthday gift to get than my favorite Vocal Coach reacting to my favorite Entertainer? Thanks man!
Happy Birthday, elitslayerz!
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy A thousand thanks!
This is such a fun video! I love your energy! And this is definitely one of my favorite performances by Jackson 5 💕💕 great video!
Such good classic music i love older songs and bands they have more heart and meaning in them
Mackenzie New Such a great time in music! ua-cam.com/video/B0btUNCPYEs/v-deo.html
@@kentamplin agreed a very great time in music
Gosh what a perceptional rythm you need to dance and sing at the same time. You either hear my throat bumping up and down due to momentum. Or it ends up in a cheeky composition. And I'm not even bad at all.
He is the only artist that gets mentioned when talking about The Beatles.
Thank you Ken. Terrific video on MJ. I am not ashamed to admit during my head banging metal days in the 80s, I was a closet Jackson fan🤘
He was already a legend when he was a kid. Incredible talent.
Michael ❤️
Jᥲvιᥱr Cᥙᥣiᥲo ❤️
Long live king of pop, not only great musician but a true artist... very obsessive to present the best form of art.
Great video, Ken! Thanks!
I'll keep waiting for your MJ's solo video reaction. Maybe Dirty Diana and Earth Song for amazing vocal performances?
Top Songs Thanks for the suggestion, Top Songs! ua-cam.com/video/B0btUNCPYEs/v-deo.html
MY GOD I love Michael! he's just amazing
👍
Gracias y saludos cordiales desde Mallorca para ti también Ken tamplin felicidades 🤩🤩
MJ FOREVER!!
Wasn’t that an A5 he hit in that bridge? “All that I neeeeed!” I wonder if he could still hit that as an adult.
Yussssss more MJ!!! Your awesome as usual !!!
Thank you for reacting to MJ finally! I thought you would never do it lol
You're welcome, Фархад Азизбейли!
Thank you so much for this good video 💕
Okay...
@@kentamplin sorry, was clearly in a rambling kinda mood last night! 🤣
please react to more of michael's solo performances. I'd recommend I Just Cant Stop Loving You or Human Nature during Bad Tour. He was truly a gem
King of pop forever mj👑😇
You gotta react to his later vocals and dance moves etc. He was just out of this world. The greatest to ever do it. Love him 👌
Nice reaction Ken. I always thought Michael had the best voice of a child, ever. He would come on Wonderama and sing and do the moon walk when we were kids.
Love the groove in the 2nd track funky!!!
So do I, Vocality!
Yeah he was a special talent . some just simply have it
Great commentary Ken!
Berry Gordy and Motown produced these early J5 records. Micheal didn't work w/ Quincy Jones until his Thriller Album.
Thank you, N W.
MJ, so, so cute and talented.
Love it....good reaction Ken
Thanks, SuperSusami!
M.Jackson 💖💖💖💖💖👍💔
Алена Щербань👍👍👍
You can see in Michael Jackson from when he was little he was going to be big. A true King of Pop! fuck Leaving Neverland and Long live Michael Jackson!
Awesome reaction video Ken 👍

oh my gawwdd... I love this video! Am going on just 2 hours of sleep here, so thought I'd watch this as a prelude to today's lessons. You have me laughing and rocking on right with you! Laughing til I had tears in my eyes! Yeahh, check out the fringe from hell on those sleeves! Talk about a stage hazard! LOL Lip syncing aside, there's a lot of talent there!
I'm so glad you loved it, BarbieDoll2006T1!
You should react to the Jackson Medley (1988/07/06) or to Smooth Criminal (1988, Wembley). Michael is singing live and dancing at the same time. It's fantastic.
What an awesome talent he is. I say that in the present tense, cause, we always can reference it as in this performance. Another child vocalist that was incredible,
was Frankie Lymon. IF you haven't done so yet, perhaps Lymon or Jackie Wilson (his danny boy) are awesome.
You should see his audition for Mowton. He was dancing like his idol James Brown. At 7 yrs old
Indeed!
The audition was in 68. Mike was 10. Born 1958
I still have the Jackson 5 greatest hits album record in my collection. Maybe I'll get it out and play it tomorrow.
Yep, SOP for all "live" music shows back then (with very few exceptions, if any) were to have a studio track playing during recording/broadcast to ensure there were no issues, as you never know what will happen during a true live performance.
Rock on!
you say he is playbacking, but i am seeing the (don't know what it is called that blue vain in the neck that pops up when you sing, with harder tones as well!) which of course wouldn't show if you playback...
and 4:16 when he goes down you can hear him being softer like he is more away from the mic, but when he moves back up his voice picks up again
i think it is possibly a mix of it (which is something he did more often because of his dancing)
Great reaction ken. I find a lot of similarities in bruno mars and MJ style. He was a great artist. RIP
Aakash Mahajan Definitely!

Another fantastic video from KTVA! Thanks for this one!
If I may, can I suggest a Thin Lizzy track? Cowboy Song would be a killer one to review!
"baby" AAAAAAHHHHH!

Great stuff !
Yes finally.

You are wrong Ken..most was LIVE young MJ SINGING .. he was just THAT damn talented he COULD dance and sing at same time so well.
Michael comes into that category of “ never going to see this kind of talent again “ like Elvis Presley , Karen Carpenter , Aretha Franklyn 👍🏻👍🏻 these singers are one of a kinds 👍🏻 and I’m glad I’m old enough to remember all of them while they were still on this earth ♥️ I’m lovin your channel ♥️ you’ve made lockdowns so much more easy . You deserve a public service award 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you to much, Thornbird 67!
