The vocal range in this song. Many people didn't know Michael can master those low notes, too.
After this Off the Wall was released not long after this
He actually has a low voice when he speaks naturally, but I saw an interview the reason he talked in a high voice so that his vocal chords never settled into it’s natural tone as he got older.
Yes, we did know he could master the low notes. He always has since becoming a solo artist. And his regular speaking voice shows he can. I guess for people who don't actually know music it may come as a surprise, but not for those with an ear.
Guess they never listened to rock wit you
So dope 🔥
the feel of the song was meant to feel defeated and Micheal pulled it off very well
Very well
Well explained
Defeated with the naivete of hope still lingering so long as he stated the commandments and sang the anthem.... Genius performance by the K.O.P.
OMG I WAS GON SAY THE SAME THING! PERFECT PERFORMANCE!
Oh oops I just said this didn't see ur comment... totally agree
The King knew he tore this song up! People always highlight how great of a vocalist he was as a child but sleep on his adult singing because he was such a phenom of a performer. But he's up there with the best of the best vocalists of all time.
In the last movie he made, his voice is SO much better. The years of fine tuning is very obvious. It's a sad but beautiful display, he never got to put on his last performance 😢
Young adult here. Like 19
@@melissasmith50 You are so right! I actually had to wait a little over five YEARS after Michael's death before I could watch that documentary. Listening to his voice was magical, and even during rehearsals, that brothah had me crying. 🤗😇
Well said 👌🏾
FACTS
More Michael Jackson pleaseeee 😩😩😩
🎯
CO-SIGN 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
I would love if he reviewed I Can't Help It by MJ. It was heavy on the jazz and I love it.
@@JBeezyJesusFreakyes, yes! I adore this song!
@@JBeezyJesusFreak absolutely
The emotion he put into this song! He sounded tired, sad, dejected, and plain old sick of singing this song for them durn crows... its amazing when you consider the genius of staying in character and singing an upbeat song while STILL intersecting joy and killing the vocals!!
Poor scarecrow! Lol
Totally agree
He really does make each bar sound so CLEAN. Mike was in rare form during this era!
Hands down, one of my favorite moments in The Wiz. MJ killed it as the scarecrow.
please do moreee michael! people only focus on performance with him and forget he was a vocalist first. i would suggest anything from the bad tour rock with you, human nature, another part of me, this place hotel, shake you body, or lovely one
🗣️I can’t help it if I wanted too 😩
Agree. I mean he started singing country western/R&B/Soul. The entertainer title kinda overshadows at times. He could always sang. Them early J5 records. Whew. 🔥
@@TaureanQueen428Literally came here to say that. LOVE that song.
I totally agree. Master vocalist and dancer too but vocally insane
I smiled through this entire analysis because I’ve literally watched this movie so much I can quote it without the movie playing. The most iconic scene of the movie and I thank you for displaying it! Rest In Paradise to the greatest to ever do it MJ!!!!
Thought I was the only one ❤😂
@@mimiturner7405 you are not alone Sis lol 😂
It feels so good to you….. I know such great performances
Me too! ❤
YESSSSS! Why do I get emotional on this song EVERY time
He really breaks us into the movie. I’m so glad she met the scarecrow first. Just made you sit on the edge of your seat waiting for him to sing again. 😊❤
Amen😩😩😩😩 #80sBaby
Yes!
I just watched The Wiz the other night and this is my favorite song from the movie. It’s almost like watching Michael graduating from the Jax5 to Off The Wall. And must props to Quincy for finding the yellow brick road for MJ.
He graduated w/ his brothers for the projects The Jacksons (1976), Going Places (1977) and Destiny (1978) imo. Quincy helped him become the biggest artist in the world tho.
@@Sttephy30 you are so right. And def cannot discount Quincy. I love the scene in “Green” in the Wiz when Quincy does his cameo. Perfect!!
@@Sttephy30I did like "The Jacksons" album. The Philly sound worked well for them.
This song and the Emerald City sequence are my favorite songs from the movie
He could cover the ENTIRE film and I would not be upset
I love hearing him sing "win" throughout this song. I listen for that word
My family was 10 deep in the theaters,I was a teenager, MICHAEL GOT A SCREAMING STOMPING STANDING OVATION, We back at 3 different times to watch this in the theaters and each time the reaction was the same 💪🏿👑😇🌹🙏🏿💪🏿🔥
This is one of my favorite songs in the Wiz and I love hearing your breakdown🙌🏾🙌🏾
YEEEESSSSS JARON!!! THE WIZ is one of my Top 5 Favorite movies... And Michael's YOU CAN'T WIN song is ABSOLUTELY THE BEST SONG in the whole movie. ❤❤❤❤❤
(My 2nd best song is Nipsy Russell's "Tin Man" SLIDE SOME OIL TO ME).
I remember I saw someone not too long ago say Michael wasn't a vocalist and the way I wanted to manifest this video in physical form and throw it at them. This song has massaged the right part of my brain for decades. A SINGER.
Let them also hear “Heaven can wait” or “Ain’t no sunshine” when he was part of Jackson 5… it can NEVER be said that he wasn’t a vocalist
@@mimiturner7405 PERIOD.
Not manifest 🤣🤣love it!!!!! I am in total agreement.
Greatest of all time.
How can anybody say he was not a vocalist? This guy sing anything and out his heart in every lyric. He sang r&b pop rock blues gospel anything just by opening his mouth. It's incredible how people try to discredit him. The hate is and was real. When u were truth when u were alive breaking barriers for everyone white or black that came after his success. This includes prince madonna Whitney and until today. All sit in his table. Sure prince was more talented musician but when it when it comes to that it factor. He was it.
As a kid I felt in my SOUL the tiredness of his situation and how he is about to give-up- NESS in his inflections. He whines and puts out his feelings quite well on this song.
Do DONT NOBODY BRING ME NO BAD NEWS next!!!
Michael wore this song OUT!
As they would say…rent was due 😂
it's always been the run at the end for me
I am auditioned for Dorothy yesterday, today, and I’m going to tomorrow. This is such a coincidence. You’ve made me a better singer and really made me focus on intent and control I love your videos thank you.
Amen♥️❤️I pray you got it. I’m an 80s baby who saw him and Janet Live and IDK how old I was learning about this. Bless whoever picked him for this😩😫😫
So jazzy, so funky Michael truly an underrated versatile singer
And one of the best With a heck of a range
Should kept working with Quincy and record jazz standards
@@FedeRhodes yeah, he could have done a record like that for sure
Micheal was one of the best at holding his consonant sounds with his singing!
Just saw Avery Wilson reprise Michael Jackson’s role as the Scarecrow in the new production of the Wiz. Avery is a powerhouse in his own right, but nobody does it better than MJ.
Link please?!
@@taiashamontez7061 Sorry, no link. I saw it live in Baltimore MD.
@@deitralee1927hey let me get them memories. Lol😂 Glad you had that experience.
I love how Michael is completely in his scarecrow character here!
He also often puts emphasis on vowels, the letters that your not suposed to / able to sing (as I have often heard from teachers) 😅 But he actually often stresses them which is so cool
I would love to see you analyze other performances in the Wiz like Mabel King’s rendition of “No Bad News”
For me, this video shows very clearly the difference between just singing well, and singing IN CHARACTER. I've seen it before when great singers participate in musicals, and they sound wonderful - but it just doesn't match the character or the context inside the story. Here, MJ not only has beautiful vocals as always, but the way he sings is totally connected to what he's singing about, and also totally connected to the Scarecrow as a character.
...anyone sleeping on MJ's vocals surely deserves a wake up call, the man was a genius ❤
More michael jackson reaction please ❤
Yesssssss I love him! Truly the greatest of the 20th century
That “You can’t win child” towards the end makes me think of a note I would hear the Chipmunks sing. I love their runs too!
MJ 4 life but can we take a minute to admire the art behind Mr. Legrair????
The song is so depressing but he brought so much light and depth...love it
It's my favorite song from the Wiz! I thought it was saying you can only lose but it says that you'll keep losing until you do things differently. "Learn your lesson, refuel your mind before some turkey blows out your flame."
The lyrics started to hit harder for me around 2020..
Most talented man the earth has ever seen. Rip legend.
MJ is my heart, my soul, my first 💕: thank you for this breakdown and putting so much overdue respect for the abilities MJ displayed at such a young age (21). Well-done! 👑🐐👑🐐👑
Can u pleaseeee do a series of songs from the wiz!!! 😭😭😭
Mike was ALL THE WAY in his bag when he sang this song. I will never get tired of hearing this song.
How? How do you ignore that last bit, "of the ga he yame" in the lower register? This entire analysis is EVERYTHING but that part right there? Come on Mr. Legrair, we wanna hear you!!!!😂
It's called SOUL, mjj sang from his heart.❤
Soooooo much good vocals in this cult favorite. My favorite is probably Diana Ross’s part on Be A Lion. It really shows her powerhouse ness!!
She was a good singer but far from a powerhouse.
@@squarcircle2254 well you know what they say about opinions....
U can tell he was influenced by Stevie Wonder bc I hear a lot of Stevie in this song
Fun fact. He and Stevie are cousin. And Stevie is the first to do the Hee hee and gave it to Mike. Which Mike does alot in his songs.
Right, have you seen some of their duets? Amazing
That's my jam it's sooo good 🤎 The Wiz I have my grandchildren loving that movie 😂😂😂😂 Thank you Jaron 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Woooo, just in time for the season. I was just wondering when they were going to start playing the Wiz in these Fall and Winter streets. You could do a week or two of the entire movie.
Sigh. This makes my heart happy. Your analysis shows what a great actor he was through his singing. They did this movie like it was a theater play.
All time favorite movie, I’m 32 and I remember vividly my mom having to put this on when I was a little girl so I would sit still while she combed my hair ❤
A FULL JARON VIDEO ON MICHAEL JACKSON AHHH
🤩 I gotta do more!!
@@jmlegrairstudio yes PLEASE 😭
My favorite moment in the movie. Michael's performance was by far the best thing in that movie.
I’ve always loved how micheal threw in that low note at the very end! It really shows how far he can stretch his vocal range and it’s so unexpected ❤
"You can't break even and you can't get out of the game." This is my soonnnggg !!! I look forward to this scene every time I look at "The Wiz." 😁
React to Michael Jackson singing Blame It On The Boogie, UGH I love that song so much!!!
Lawd you sang “you can’t winnn” so beautifully 😍
I wish I could hear you do a full cover.
There’s always a unmistakable brightness to his voice that just makes your ears perk up lol Love love love this movie and performance ❤
My favorite movie of ALL-TIME!!!! Michael killed it as well as everyone else in this movie!!!! ❤❤❤❤
I feel like I manifested this. I was wondering how you felt about Michael’s voice. I’ve heard complaints. I loved it when he sang background for Quincy Jones’ song The Dude. Thank you for this❤
YES!!! I've been waiting to see you do this one! Michael is astounding on all fronts of vocal production and this song is such a mad groove (thanks to Quincy Jones)
You have to do "Believe In Yourself" by Lena Horne, and pretty much every other song you can from this movie.
Cheers!!
Jaron I love you😭👏🏾 Always checking out what other vocal/speech coaches won't!
I would loooooove it if you checked out the other version! It's a bit longer, but he has even MORE amazing vocal moments in it!
Jaron!!!!!! You don't set me off up in here with this one! *You Can't Win* and *HOME* are my favorite songs from *The Wiz.* And I love, Love, LOVE watching Michael Jason in this one, because you can tell he is desperate to dance while singing the songs, which brings that raspy, beautiful desperation to the song. I love it!!! 🤗🥰🤗
This might be my favorite video on this channel! Not only is this song a classic, but how Jaron manages to break down and mimic every run and note is nothing short of amazing. So talented, love it!
One of my favorite songs from the wiz
I love the videos where you share in the Fandom. This song is one of those overlooked jackson vocals
I was like 8 the first time I ever head this song and it has never left my brain
This is Michael at his best.
I love this song! I'm terrified of this movie. When I was little, when it was on, I would sit and play with my toys, singing my little heart out to all the songs with my back to the television. 😂 I still can't watch it, but I'm having a great time rn.
Idk what it is but i like you and your face. You have a wholesome smile
That was my favorite part of the movie his runs was everything
Omfg!!!!! He doing my favorite movie!!!!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤😊
Takes me back to my childhood....I loved this movie and all of the music....and MJ was MJing as only he could... .
SANG MICHAEL!!! Oh I love this song!!! 👏🏼👏🏼🎶🎶❤️
This scene and song make me cry. He is and will forever be the love of my musical life. ❤ #MJ4Life
and this is y his legacy will live on forever. yes he was an entertainer but he was a singer and he can sang honey
Remember that Quincy Jones was musical director on this film and probably suggested the jazzy inflections that Michael used in this song. Great performance overall.
pls do more MJ i love how you analyse his voice and singing so detailed
My Favorite song out of the whole movie.
my jam .... Nipsey song also after this "what!"
I just said the EXACT SAME THING!!! 😊
That extended version almost make you wanna shout. Love it
MJ could really sing any genre beautifully. Check out his collaboration with Santana in Whatever Happens and with Akon in Hold My Hand
The last deep notes ❤❤. The whole song ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I just love this song. I watch this every Christmas.
I love the way Michael sings this song, the emphasis he puts on the words, the smoothness of his runs, the soul of his vocals… He really could sing and dance. He was definitely an entertainer. Even though I don’t agree with Joe’s methods of getting the best out of the brothers, Michael was dedicated to perfecting his craft, unfortunately to a fault. I like this movie, though. All the celebs, the songs… cool reimagining.
Great analysis of one of my favorite songs ever!!!
My favorite movie! My favorite song from the movie! My favorite analysis!!😊
One of the best if not the best thing about the whole movie.
He was actually teaching me how to sing in this video he's amazing
I LOOOOVVVEEEEEE THIS MOVIE!!!! There needs to be an updated version of this movie created. I have the cast already in hand.✊🏾 We did a Wiz/Wizard of Oz competition and haltime show in my high school marching band. We did this song, great memories. I own the dvd and digital version on this movie.
This is my favorite song from my all time favorite movie. I still listen to this. Thank you for doing this analysis! 😊 MJ did his thing on this one!!! He glided through the notes ❤
I truly love the way you breakdown vocals. Being a singer myself I learned so much from your content. 💯
My definitely my favorite song of the wiz, Michael Jackson
is I love the movie I have it on DVD I watch it all the time with my grandkids absolutely a classic and a treasure
The gorillas on the motorcycle had me scared 😂😂😂
As an MJ fan since birth...😁 This was always my favorite part of the Wiz when I first watched it in second grade. And it still is along with the Ease on Down the Road part
It is perfect for the idea of a soulful sad scarecrow! 🕺🏾🎵👌🏿💯👍🏿
YESSSSSSSSS!!!! This is one of my all time favorite performances ever. MJ killed it!! Anybody who thinks he can’t sing or doesn’t have range only need listen to this song. 😍♥️🔥🔥
Best analysis on MJ in The Wiz I've seen in a long time.... Very accurate.... And your video audio quality allowed me to catch notes I didn't realize he was hitting in this performance... I have a better understanding, vocally, of Mike's range from watching this video.... Good work man!!!!!
Yes! Thank you for reacting to this LEGENDARY performance by MJ. I too ❤❤❤ this song off The Wiz. He absolutely sang his face off. 👏🏾👍🏽💯
When Michael sing this song you can hear the give up in this song and this is one of my favorite 🤩 parts out of the whole movie MJ was the best not just the best he was magical ❤
This is my favorite song from the Wiz!!!!
When I heard him sing that, I was through. You could just feel the dispair and the soul when his voice went low. You should hear him singing "A Fool For You" by Ray Charles.
Omg have watches this movie more times than I can count. Anf always jammed to this song.
MJ was pure Talent and made it look so easy
Love this song, his vocal performance, the choreography…just everything about it ❤❤❤❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I got so exited when I saw this thumbnail! Going in the house so I can watch it on TV! ❤😊
Yas. I know that right. 😂😊
