High stress caused shingles. I was 30 years old and I had shingles. A painful, blistering, debilitating rash wrapping around my torso. People my age weren’t supposed to get shingles. Shingles is a disease for someone twice my age, or so I thought.

Shingles is a viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus, VZV for short. VZV is also the same virus that causes chickenpox.
The painful shingles rash can happen anywhere on the body, but it often appears as a band along a dermatome, which is an area of skin that is mainly supplied by a single spinal nerve.
If you’ve ever had the chickenpox, you still have VZV in your body. The virus never completely goes away, but rather lies inactive in the base of nerve tissues in the spinal cord and brain. After many years of lying dormant, the virus can reactivate and cause shingles.
If you’ve had the chicken pox, you can get shingles.
There’s a vaccine for shingles, Zostavax, but you’re not allowed to get the vaccine until you're 50 years old.
And even then, the Center for Disease Control says that protection from the shingles vaccine lasts about 5 years, so adults vaccinated before they are 60 years old might not be protected later in life when the risk for shingles are greatest.
Yet, I would come to find out that shingles in young adults is on the rise. What’s causing the increased incidence of shingles?

I was diagnosed with shingles today. I suppose fortunately it's only two very small patches on my stomach and side. I'm 17 years old. Less obligatory stress and more self-emotional stress. Regrets, fears and self-criticism. It's an "interesting" moment when your body flat-out tells you "Chill The F**k Out".
I hope you are recovering well. Crazy how the body can force us to slow down, by shutting down. Any plans for wading through those regrets, fears, and self-criticisms? I face similar things, and have been trying to find a balance in my life.
I am 46 and got diagnosed with shingles this week due to high stress. Sometimes you can change your hectic schedule but can't change your past and present toxic relationships.
I wish you a speedy recovery! Yes, clearing your calendar is MUCH easier work than working through past traumas or removing toxic relationships.

I had shingles at 25 around my eye. I was really stressed about my job. I am 46 now. After 20 years I'm finally realizing just how important is to keep your stress levels down. I always knew it but I don't think I was as conscious of it as I am today. Thank you for the video.

I'm a mom, business owner and student (I truly wanted to go back to school, I didn't want it to be a stresser). I love all that I do so it's hard to figure out what I can slow down.
I've been stressed for years and I think Its become my norm. Life is such a work in progress, not a race.. your right -minimalism and keeping to what is essential is crucial during these times if not for long term.

I agree with you. Some people thinks that it is just like chicken pox but for me it was much worst. I got it at 42 and I believe you about stress and shingles. Family problems drove me to being so anxious and got a little depressed which compromised my immunity and mental well being
I don't remember getting the chicken pox, but I can tell you shingles was horrible. I hope you recover quickly and on the longer term you're able to destress. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

I had chicken pox at age 6 , pretty badly I remember it like it was yesterday . Then had shingles at age 19 on my left side . That first outbreak was a lot larger than this second one at age 46 .
This one I had no idea I even had it . Been feeling crummy over the last week with a low grade headache & body aches & also pretty stressed as well .
Started moisturizing after my shower & immediately knew what it was soon as I touched it . Took a pic and sent it right to my dr . Got in by 9 am the next morning for antivirals .
I was right it’s indeed shingles & doc said because I jumped on it immediately I should clear fast . Today is day two & it’s drying out , super itchy but contained .
I feel like crud , my body hurts so I’m in bed and taking short walks enjoying the sun & taking additional supplements . Lots of sleep and fluids . Praying it stays mild ❤❤

Thank you for sharing. I’m 37, a mom and military wife living abroad. I definitely have been dealing with chronic stress - and have shingles. I was shocked when the doctor told me. Real similar story, tryed doing way to many things at the same time, (after a long history of spinning many plates) and
got diagnosed a few weeks ago at 29, with a nice patch on the left side of my face / eye. I'm in the part where your nerves are going crazy, but it's mostly ok. I should probably learn how to say no to more things.
Learning to say no and defining my priorities was a hard but important thing for me to learn. Sorry to hear it popped up on your face/eye. I hope you have a quick recovery! ❤️🩹

I've been treating herpes virus for several years with different medications until I saw a post on how a young lady got cured from herpes by Dr Ani, out of desperation i decided to contact him with little or no hope of a solution. I hope you recovered quickly! My mother got it on her face last year, but she's also 40 years older than you. I read a report that younger generations are seeing more stress, anxiety, and inflammatory illnesses way younger in life. Definitely a sign that something is broken and needs fixing.

yeah the mental issues. that’s for sure. by now the shingles are gone there’s some scarring which is healing but the pain is still the same as if im gonna get it again. i am on painkillers for now. lets see how long it take. i am grateful for you story. I hope your mum is doing well now.💛

I agree i just had it and barley going away however the pain in still there.No more stress
I was diagnosed today. In light of monkey pox, I was a bit relieved. But now I’ve got to get through this. It started out as a little spot on my “lower” cheek and then a bigger patch flared up my lower back. I’m praying the medication and home remedies help and this passes soon. I feel sad though. I don’t know how to fix some major things that I believe are the cause of my stress. I feel hopeless, I know I’m strong but I think that’s how I got here, being “strong” but needlessly enduring what I don’t need to anymore…I’m 35. It’s comforting to see I’m not alone.

I’m 53 so in the right age group but it def is stress related. It’s in my trigeminal nerve and is one of the worst things I’ve ever experienced. I look after over 150 rescue cats on my own. And I can’t change the situation so the stress is always there.

I'm 23 and i got 3-4 shingles small spot from my back to stomach area on left side and each spot has 2-4 small blisters
On the 3rs day I'm immediately consulted to doctor he prescribes me medicine
But main challenging for me is pain, it's on back part for very small region and to be honest I've my exams Tomorrow and on 20 Jan 2022

I got shingles when I was 40. I was healthy and about to go on holidays. I was exposed to someone who had it about 5-7 days before I came down with it so I feel that it is transferable, despite what people say.
It is. My husband got it after socializing with a man down the street who had it.
Age 42. Last Wed I had an excruciating pain in my back, thought I’d pulled a muscle or had a bad knot. The pain went around to my chest as well and my skin felt weirdly sensitive. A few days later my partner noticed I had red spots on my back which wrap around to my chest. Went to the Dr and yep it’s shingles. Now it’s all blistered up and I’m on antivirals and lyrica. I also had a weird nerve pain going down my right arm even though it’s not affected with the rash.
I had chicken pox at 1979 so I was at extremely high risk for getting the scary shingles, so I got the Shingrix shot. And now I am protected. No postherpetic neuralgia can harass me now!

Thank you tyler im 40 and i just got shingles 20 days ago it wrapped from the middle of my back to the front of my stomach.I am the biggest stresser ever since i was a young kid i would have massive anxiety .Always thinking of the worse caee scenerio .This pain is a nightmare so when the rash disappears does the pain go away with it usually??

A few years? It might not be Shingles if it has lasted that long. But, I took valacyclovir to stop my shingles.
I got shingles when I was 37. The worst part was it was on the roof of my mouth. The virus went to my facial nerve and paralyzed the entire side of my face (Ramsey Hunt Syndrome). While I don't have any scars, my face did not heal entirely, and I'm reminded of it every time I look in the mirror. I would never wish this upon anyone.

I finally have recovered from shingles. I'm 38 and I didn't even feel stressed. I also have epilepsy and take meds for that which have lowered my white blood cell counts. So maybe that lowered my stress threshold. Shingles definitely sucks. I had a lot of bone and joint pain, almost like they were trying to grow. I was on 24/7 ibuprofen to manage the pain. My poor liver, lol. Altogether, my experience took about 5-6 weeks to get to where skin returned to normal, no pain, and I felt comfortable using towels more than once.

I’m 25 first got shingles last year when I was 24 and has gotten them 3 times already and because of a lot of stress
Im 32 and have just got them. I can easily without dispute put it down to stress at work and my 6 day a week training regime coupled to it. No one believes you tho man, people laugh at stress its frustrating
At least in the line of work i am (construction, production) you tell people your stressed and they look at you like you have three heads or just flat out laugh and dismiss your concerns

Diagnosed yesterday. 39 here. Going through a potential celiac disease diagnosis right now as well, so it could be all auto immune related. I was told all of this could have been activated by covid-19 earlier diagnosis.

I'm 26 the last 6 months have been most stressful I've had in a long time. More than likely had a lower immune system because of contacting covid back on January 2021. Was swimming and tanning on hot day with no sunscreen when the 1st few blisters showed up. The goal is to dry it out I was using a Shea butter for 1st few days which moisturizes skin, probably didn't help.

@@TylerLloyd yep they gave anti viral meds an a topic cream to dry it out. Wrapped my torso in bandage to help slow more spreading. The nerve pain in my back, which at 1st I thought was just me pulling a muscle at work, is making me wake up about every 2 hour each night.
Going through shingles right now. I have sleep cycle issue and also stress myself a lot on project deadlines. Guessing that these 2 were the major causes. How long did your shingle pain last?
The severe pain went away within a week of starting the medication and was all gone within a month. Still had some scarring though. I wish you a fast and speedy recovery!
I had shingles about this time last year. I had no idea what was going on at first. Had a lot of itching and redness on my right side of my scalp. I was 44 and I’m sure it was from stress. I believe it left me with some nerve damage, as I have a slight tick. My head will slightly jerk to the left if I’m concentrating on something or reading. My loved ones have not noticed it so I haven’t really been worried about it but just wonder if it’ll go away. I went to dr recently and she prescribed me Valacyclovir.

Dr told me that, before referring me to neurologist, she wanted me to try the meds.

I got shingles at 29, and the nerve was at C3 which is base of skull, some of top neck, stretching go top of scalp and inner ear. Probably the worst place for Shingles pain. I wasnt stressed the last few weeks but this year has been stressful on the whole

@@edwinrodeoim sorry to hear that. Mske sure to get an antiviral like Acyclovir, and Amitriptyline to protect you from nerve damage. Plus a strong pain killer like cocodemol. Also if it gets close to your eye it can be dangerous so please take care 🤗🤗🤗 i hope you recover soon

by thanksgiving it spread to my left eye, Friday morning my eye Dr saw me immediately, he gave me a script of Ofloxxacin 3 drops a day & see him again this coming Tuesday. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I’m more scared than in pain . Again thank you for reaching out to me.

It's not always stress the way you think.
I handle stress pretty well BUT when things get crazy I tend to lose sleep a whole lot worse than normal. That is what caused mine. It was a lack of sleep from extra stressors(I was not freaking out)and that weakened my immune system. Boom shingles.

I’m 33 and I got diagnosed with shingles last week. At first I thought it was a heat rash or an insect bite on my neck but it grew and creams etc weren’t working. I went to see a doctor and was prescribed aciclovir which seems to have done the trick, a week in and the rash is starting to calm down, becoming less painful and a scab is forming.
The odd thing is I wasn’t particularly stressed, not to the point it is unmanageable or getting on top of me. What did happen was the week prior my 2yr old daughter had chicken pox. Apparently you can’t catch shingles from chicken pox but it seems like a strange coincidence. I think her chicken pox triggered an immune response from my body resulting in a flare up of shingles.
I hope you're doing better! And maybe there was a immune response or the just enough to tip your body over the edge for a flareup.
@@TylerLloyd thank you. Yea it seems to have cleared up now, not painful anymore but has left a bit of scarring. Hopefully won’t flare up again. Luckily the medication caught it at the right time, had it been another day before seeing a doctor it would have been ineffective
My husband started talking to a man in our neighborhood that had shingles and now my husband has it for the first time, and he is in a whole lot of pain constantly. It's definitely contagious.

I’m the same age , have it on under my chin and the back of my neck , they are almost gone , but I’m still in pain . It’s the worst . Last day of valtrex . Hope it’s close to the end !

I thought you can’t get shingles from someone who has had shingles but some ppl on here are saying they believe it’s transferable or got it because they were exposed to someone. At first I thought I maybe picked it up at the gym but once I learned that you can’t get it that way I thought perhaps I was in denial that I could have gotten it from stress.
Got my booster shot Dec 27… noticed a rash on my arm ( same arm i got my shot) on Dec 29th… went to the store on Dec 30th to get cortisone 10 and other itching lotion… noticed that it was burning and making it worst so i went to urgent care on Dec 31st and was diagnosed with shingles… i just turned 33. I was told Tylenol…advil, etc for pain but that only last for 2 hours… what did u take? Did u put anything on it? When did u start feeling better. I was prescribed valacyclovir and took my first 3 pills today.
I hope you heal quickly. Once it was properly diagnosed, I didn’t put anything on the rash. Within 48 hours the pain became very subtle and was completely gone in about a week. But when it started it hurt! It was a deep pain that sent shocks through my body, so I sympathize with anyone who has had it.

I had chickenpox when i was 30 (in 2014), got shingles a month after & was treated with antiviral meds. But after 2 yrs, i had it again, back on antiviral meds. Then it keeps on recurring every single year, 2 to 4x a year but I’ve never taken antiviral meds again & just let it clear up on its own.
I would like to have the shingles vaccine now that i’m 36. Have you had yours already? Is it ok to get the vaccine to prevent recurring shingles?
I did not get the vaccine, but I have only had shingles once. If, like you, I had it on a reoccurring basis I would ask my doctor about getting the vaccine. Also, if you haven't looked into it, I would also want to see if you had another underlying autoimmune disease, which could be causing the repeated flares.

@@johanusyolder Hi! Thanks for asking. I was tested several times for autoimmune diseases but all negative results, thank God. It turned out I was just Vitamin D deficient and needed to take Vit D supplements (800 IU/day) for 3 months. It worked well & no more recurrence. God is good! 😊🙏🏻

@@TylerLloyd it's actually the complete opposite. Not only is it taking forever to heal. I think its internal shingles because my spine is hurting like crazy and it's swelling in certain areas. I also somehow developed cysts in my armpit which is like the middle spot of shingles breakout. I have jt on my right side shoulder blade/center of back, and it goes under my armpit and towards the front of my chest stopping at the sternum. Such a funny time to get what seems like 4 simultaneous cysts -_-

I got it first at 21, again at 23 and now at 28. Definitely caused by stress. I wonder if having it so young will increase the chances of getting it in later years.

@@mikeknox7453 I’m 28, and yes I did have the vaccine. Sometimes I’ll feel the nerve pain and the rash won’t show, but 2 other times I’ve had the rash. I try to take an allergy pill when I start feeling it and that will usually help get it under control. When it does come back it’s painful though.

I had shingles because of unusually noisy neighbors. I’ve always lived in an apartment as an adult. I’ve always had noisy neighbors, and I’m surprised I haven’t had shingles more often.
The neighbor’s boyfriend carved flutes. He just played one note on the flute... over and over: he didn’t know how to play tunes. They finally had a loud argument through the front door... she was inside and he was outside. I looked out my window and saw all of the tenants in the unit in the other building, about a hundred feet away, standing on the walkway and staring.The argument was that loud.

I never got any peace and quiet at that apartment. The noisy tenant in the apartment below mine repeatedly slammed a drawer in her kitchen every morning at 7 am. Every evening she would call her sister and argue with her for hours. After her boyfriend moved in, they always argued with each other. (After their argument through the front door, the boyfriend ran away and never came back).
The tenant was evicted because she didn’t pay the rent. She ended up homeless.

Is herpes zoster is a sign of hiv
It can be. Shingles (herpes zoster) is somewhat common and not directly associated with HIV. @@TylerLloyd Thank you, from everything I've read it will get worse before it gets better. I'm on 5 days of antiviral meds, so far that's helped with the redness and I've already been taking gabapentin for different reasons so that's helped with most of the sharp shooting pain. 😬👍 Fun stuff

No one is mentioning the covid vaccines. I have shingles and I blame that.
A vaccine, any vaccine not just a Covid vaccine, will elicit an immune response. That response could possibly cause the shingles virus to emerge, which you have already but is suppressed. But that could happen with any vaccine.
More like getting shingles due to anxiety from social pressure to take the jab even though everyone knows it's sketch af.
