Most of the wires connected to the sirens were phone lines that activated them. They do not provide power to the siren but only activate them. Also what you referred to as the junction box is actually the siren control cabinet. Inside there is the motor starter relay which turns power on and off to the siren and the telephone relay, which is responsible for responding to the ring signals and turning on the motor starter.
Yeah, different regions have different public alert systems. In Los Angeles, as well as many others, the primary need was civil defense during WWII and the Cold War. In others it's Tornados. In others its Floods or Tsunamis. In others its for Fire. And in some places it's to warn of imminent Nuclear Reactor meltdown. That's why we have so many beautiful sirens all over the country.
The “Flat Birdhouse” sirens are actually Federal Model 3L’s, the L stands for Low Tone, The reason the housings were shorter is because of a metal shortage during the time of manufacturing. The insides of these are the same as any other low tone model 3. If you look on the tag on the siren they are model 3’s I also believe that the innards of the daffodils Siren are fake. I own a SD-10 I and the core looks way different
Yeah, I've become convinced that those are indeed Model 3's and your comment supports the general thought that they were created because of metal shortage. Thanks for the info! And that's awesome that you own an SD-10 l .I'm sure you're making many people jealous.
Someone looked at the model tag on the "flattened birdhouse" siren, and it said MACH 3L. The Fedelcode models used MACH instead of Model when naming the sirens.
This is great information and the first I've heard of a Mach 3L. Doing some research I found a great supporting post on FB, Long Island Fire Alarm Page. I think you've put a pin in it. Thank you!
That siren is not small enough to be a H-O-R siro drone. By the way, Siro drone is said: SIGH-ROH DRONE. It is a Federal Signal Model 3, (3 HP siren), or a Fedelcode (Federal Electric Coded) model 3. These are both the same. Just diferent names.
Kind of a big question :D. Of the sirens I've visited just about all of them no longer work as they are disconnected from their electrical lines. The only ones that might work are the 2T22 I visited on walk 7. From comments and information I've read online, if the sirens were cleaned up a little (removing any nests or debris, and reattached to power they would probably work.
From looking at some photos of an ACA Cyclone I'm quite sure that the sirens in Los Angeles are not one of them. The current thinking is that they are either Model3s cut down to save material during WWII or a HOR SiroDrone. Personally, based on the era they were put up and the other dominant siren being Federal Signal Corp Model5s, my vote is for them being Model3s. But, I've certainly been proven wrong of things in the past. Thanks for the information.
Yes that is correct that is a Federal Signal Mode 3!!!
How cool that they allowed an artist to make the first siren into a daffodil!
Fantastic stuff I love these and have been keeping tabs on them for years and are featured in my transit photography whenever possible.

That's what I thought but there was some debate about that in the commebts of an earlier video. Thank you.
There’s been a couple Federal SD 10sIn Amarillo Texas those federal SD 10 sirens they were used for tornado warnings

It’s an eagle when you said chicken restaurant! Gavilan is an eagle. It’s from a Spanish word.
No worries, i love it when people correct me, that's how I learn. The place looks like a chixken place, but who knows, maybe they're serving eagles 🤪

Those "birdhouse" sirens a federal signal model 3s.
I think that second to Last siren is a fedelcode model 3 or a HOR siro-drone.
I think the consensus is that it's a Model 3.
You need to see the/a Thunderbolt/s that I listed on video #4, they are really different to these sirens.
Do they still work ?
