Even after all these years of sitting dormant that thing still sounds healthy! It is a testament to American engineering. I hope in the future these sirens can be put to use again and I hope this incident doesn’t bring the end of this sirens existence.

Sacramento residents: “i just want to go to sleep can someone turn that siren off” Siren enthusiasts: “OH MY GOD FINALLY WE GOT TO HEAR THE SCREAM MASTER OH MY GOD”
Great moment for the siren community, we've finally heard what both a real Scream Master (in this incident) and a real rotating CLM (Canadian sirens, one was found still active for a small village's volunteer fire dept.) sound like
I'd like to reinforce my point at the end. This incident goes to show that many of these sirens around Sacramento are still serviceable. With controller upgrades, these sirens could be reactivated into a cost efficient fully functional system to help warn against the ever evolving dangers of wildfires. I know of people who can do this type of work so it is possible, with the right people. Granted, some new sirens would ideally have to be added to fill coverage gaps and replace a few completely defective units, but it is FAR cheaper than a brand new system and I'd say it would be worth every penny.
@zenithchromo The chances of someone causing a false alarm is incredibly slim. The entire control set can be replaced with an FC and the associated motor starters/contactors. The FC can have a built in receiver, though I don't know if it has the encryption options a dedicated radio would have. The best option would be for it to run off one of the city's existing city wide repeaters.
Mhm, due to the other comment on this video I posted but not being sent due to most likely the youtube bot thought my comment was spam, I would like to also add on that this siren went on for 30+ minutes without any pitch drops or problems (for the siren itself at least). Even the E.D. Bullard siren on the California Fruit Building was activated without any problems too! All they need is a new coat of paint and they're good to go.
@@henrylombard-hughes6622 It would be excellent of Sacramento got an entirely new system. They could save a significant amount of money if they retrofitted some of the sirens in better condition with new controls & supplemented the coverage gaps with brand new sirens.
Finally! A real scream master siren recording!!!!!!! Its been a while since the last one go hotwired in long beach as some guy said! It happened around 12/31/04 I think
Sirens can still be used today for modern emergencies. Out there in CA, you guys get wildfires and earthquakes. The coast could see a tsunami. For wildfires or tsunamis, they could be sounded for a mandatory evacuation. Hawaii has sirens for tsunamis. Midwest uses them for tornadoes. Other states use them still for Volunteer Fire Departments. Helps to notify their members that don't have cell or pager service, or letting drivers nearby that emergency vehicles will be coming out.
We finally had a recording and sound for this siren! Great that it is now being reactivated. Edit: it is probably just a grid malfunction or hotwiring as what I found on Reddit where I got the link to this video as well as that big comment in this video.
In my opinion, this isn’t good to the general public, but is AMAZING for Siren Enthusiasts! Us siren enthusiasts have been wondering what this very rare make & model of siren actually sounded like! And now we know!
That’s just the 9 port. There are 6/8 port ones in LA iirc and there are only synths of them. But this is still cool but I am kind of disappointed that it’s just a 9 port
It annoys me because most people walk past those not even knowing what they are or that they exist. There's some in Riverside, and Los Angeles.....they used to always had drills. They definitely need to start tests again.
I am a siren enthusiast and I know that there was an old thunderbolt in LA the model of the thunderbolt is a thunderbolt 2000. This is the last remaining gas powered thunderbolt in existence and you could still activate it manually even though they say it’s an active they just forget to unplug the manual box of it but thunderbolts are awesome if you look on the thunderbolt Sirens still in existence map there are thunderbolts scattered across America
One more thing some of the sirens are privately owned so they're not controlled by the county they're usually controlled locally by the owner of the siren these Sirens can still save lives especially if you're outside and you're unaware of a danger the sirens I know mainly are the Whalen Federal Signal Sterling ACA Screamers Denver duplex are most commonly used as general emergency some of the sirens that I know are being used as jailbreak sirens
