These are SO cute!!! I use inktense for drawing/painting but never thought about fabric!! This will be a fun project to do with my niece and nephew next time they are here!!! I am always looking for new art projects to do with them. They know that going to Auntie's house means playing with all my art supplies!! Thank you for what I am sure will be a very fun project for them. I will post pictures when we do it!!
Oh my gosh. I love Rodney! Great tutorial.
Wow your emu is amazing. This technique reminds me of the paint and colour magic books we had as kids
i just LOVE him!!! and your music is fantastic :)
I could watch you work all day. Mesmerizing.
Thank you, Nancy!
You are so talented!
This is beyond so cute! Love it 😍 awesome job 👏👍
Rodney is so cool
Love Rodney and the music too. What fun.
Karen James LOL! Rodney is a bit of a character!
Karen James Thanks so much Karen. I like Rodney, too. (Apologies for not replying sooner!)
This is Awesome! Sure hope to see this bird in department store's. Would love to see this print as a shower curtain. Thanks for sharing. :)
Thanks for your lovely comments! I'll give some thought to commercial release ... in the future!
Love it thanks for sharing
I'm glad you enjoyed watching the creation of Rodney! Thanks for letting me know :)
This was too much fun
Dalia Teti glad you like my Rodney! Yes, he’s a bit of fun!
So fun! Thanks so much for sharing your techniques. I'm going to break out my inktense and give this a try.
Little side note, I love how the sped-up section of your brushing on the medium sounds sort of like wings flapping, not intentional I'm sure but made me smile.
+Judy Mason Hi Judy - I hadn't thought of that connection with flapping wings - you're right! I chose that piece of music because I thought it suited - a bit of a laugh!
Hi Deborah! A really big Thank -YOU for doing this video on you tube!!!!! I have to do this. This is a fun!!!! art project!!! YEah!!! I just bought my first small tin of INk tense pencils, I don't yet have the ink tense blocks for painting, Ive been timidly trying these on scraps of fabric not knowing quite what to do. I guessed myself and bought fabric medium! I haven't tried it yet. I just knew that any paint on fabric needed fabric medium. THis looks big and free and fun! I'm ready to get a white apron and do this! Now where do I get the Apron? hahaha!
Hi Patricia! I'm so glad you found this entertaining - it's intention was to be fun, but also to help people look at using Inktense in a more 'expansive' way. Hope you enjoy making one of your own - using any picture or design you like. Re the apron - I made one and do have the pattern available as a downloadable PDF, if you're interested! www.deborahwirsu.com/product/bakers-apron-downloadable-pdf-pattern/
I made it using a fairly heavy weight plain white fabric. I'd love to see what you make!
Great work ! Will the ink stay after the apron is washed ?
Very nice! What type of fixative do you use?
beautiful. thank you so much for the very informative video. I notice that you have not used any of the water brushes i.e. pental aguawash, or derwent. any reason.
Hi Rosmarie - no reason! I just chose to use Derwent Inktense blocks and a little of the Inktense pencils only, for this piece. I use different products for different projects!
I live in the United States, but also purchase art supplies elsewhere, like Ken Bromlwy in the UK. Could you be specific about what brand or kind of fabric fixative you are using, please? Thanks for the video.
I tend to try anything that is available in Australia - mostly Matisse (Derivan) Fabric Fixative, or JoSonja's Textile Medium. I'm not sure what other countries (if any) sell these brands. Sometimes Golden (a US brand). II don't know that what I can get locally is available elsewhere, at least under the same name. Some products often have different names in different countries, even when exactly the same product.
Rodney is cool
Can it be washed after using the blocks and inktense pencils?
+Mavic Cantes Hi Mavic. As long as you use plenty of fabric fixative mixed with the Inktense, the fabric can be washed. However, over time the colour will fade bit by bit. Only dyes intended for permanent dyeing (e.g. Procion chemical dyes) will retain colour depth permanently. However, I find for items that are only washed every now and then, (or not at all) Inktense is fine. Perhaps experiment on a small piece of fabric, then wash it and see what happens.
Thanks for the info, Deborah. More power.
I love the music. What is it. Sandy K.
Herdmaiden'ts Dance from Bergakungen (The Mountain King)
Does your fabric need to be 100% cotton? Have you tried it on a blend?
HI .. in Part one you fix the orange flower paint with medium iron and in part 2, you did not ... Is it necessary to iron or not , when we use Inktense blocks and pencils ?
HI - Yes, if you want the paint to be colourfast, you need to press it with a medium iron. I think most people would press their work after painting and stitching, but my apologies for not mentioning this in the video. Technically, it is not necessary to 'fix' the paint, but it will look and last better if you do. Also, it will not be colourfast if not pressed.
I meant Ken Bromley art suppliers.
