  • I conducted a little experiment using Shiva Paintstiks to create stencils, and then colored in with Derwent Inktense Pencils. To move the ink around on the fabric I used Liquitex Fabric Medium, and plain ol' aloe vera gel.

    Great video! I don't have to do the experiments with water/mediums because you did it for me -- I can just get right on with my project. Thanks!

    I just found your channel and I am thrilled. I see we have a lot of the same interests. And books we like. I love all of Julia Cameron's books, love Spoonflower and have had Lecien fabric approach me about doing a fabric line for them. I am a quilt pattern designer and used to have a quilt shoppe. Now I am really into my journaling, writing and art.
    Love your channel, and I look forward to going through your videos!

      Yay! Thank you so much for reaching out and your kind words. We definitely have a lot in common :) That is amazing. Have you started working on your fabric line yet? Any pictures of your quilts online? I'd love to see because I'm smitten by quilts too. "Journaling, writing, and art"...I'm right there with you!

      I have a blog: Thescrappyappleyard.blogspot.com
      And on the fabric line, I am fine tuning my style and learning about art. I knew nothing when they first asked me.
      I look forward to getting to know you!

      You should be able to order it online at Amazon, and the fabric medium too. Also check with your local arts/crafts store.

    Hi Loi .. thanks a lot dear for the video.. l have a question please, does the aloe vera gel works excellently lthe same like Fabric medium, I mean the piece of fabric will be washed safely ?? Thank you

    • @LoiLaing
      @LoiLaing  6 років тому +1

      Hi Hala,
      Thanks so much for watching. Fabric medium is always ideal since it's made for that purpose, but the aloe gel works just as well for blending the colors. With these pencils you can heat set the fabric, so you shouldn't have any issues with washing and the feel of the fabric is the same since they're not like paint. I apologize for the late response, as I didn't realize I had comments!

    Hi Loi Laing, when it dries on the fabric does it smudge or can I wash the fabric and it will stay on there?

    • @LoiLaing
      @LoiLaing  7 років тому +1

      Hi Chesa. The Inktense pencils can be heat set on fabric, so you can wash it. Just iron on the reverse. Also, if you use the fabric medium that helps it to set even more. Make sure to test first. Hope this helps :)

    I used aloe vera gel, did my detailed painting on silk, ironed to set the Derwent and because I had silk dyes on the background, I steamed the piece and no problems. Then when I washed the piece three days later, ALL my Derwent work went down the drain! Can someone help me figure out what went wrong? I also use hair spray on silk when I want the dye to stay in place and not run.

    • @LoiLaing
      @LoiLaing  5 років тому

      Oh my goodness Karin! I'm sooo sorry that happened to your work! The only thing I can think of is that the silk dye in the background probably affected the Inktense. Did you try the Inktense by itself without the silk dyes in the background? Always make sure to do a patch test. I hope you can try again and make something even more beautiful. Jacquard and Pebeo also make fabric paints that work well too.
