Thanks for sharing,I will have my knee replacement in 2 days time, now I know what to expect,I feel anxious, but watching your video ,makes me feel ,it won’t be that bad.
Just take it easy, take your meds, and keep up with the physical therapy. The first couple of weeks is rough, but it gets better. I’ll be in prayer for you for you doctor for a successful surgery and a quick recovery. God bless.
@sarKAZm19 It was rough the first few weeks. But I’m now 5 1/2 months out and can hike 6 miles and my flexibility is almost back to pre-surgery flex. I have lots of videos about my journey available on UA-cam.
@@sarKAZm19 this is my 13 th day after my surgery, the 1st and 2 nd day was the worst painful, glad I stayed at the hospital, they were very helpful,3rd day I was discharged, stayed at the hotel for rest which helped me recuperate exercising at the hallway and going up the stairs,I am at my 13th day now,it’s still sore, but I take my medication,I can walk on my own, though the therapist said I need to used the walker to practice balance ,I also use the cane occasionally,I can climb 5steps on the stairs normally.i am happy with the results of my knee replacement.
@marjoriecadanilla7546 Awesome. Congratulations. It’ll only get better. Sure, there’s a lot of physical therapy, but it is so worth it. Keep up the stretches and walking. That’s very important. The more you use it the better it’ll get and will help the healing.
The surgery wasn’t bad at all. The therapy is where you’ll put in all the work. Don’t be afraid. Go into it knowing in 8 weeks you’ll be a new person. The biggest thing is to keep up with the therapy no matter how you feel. I do my first full session of PT tomorrow. I’ll have a video of how I did. I’ll also keep you in my prayers for your journey.
@lindaelston4728 I understand. The surgery is nothing. I mean, it’s surgery and your asleep and the put a prosthetic knee in place of your bad knee so yeah, it’s something. It is, however, nothing like it was 10 or 15 years ago. It’s a 45 minute procedure. But, the real work is after the surgery. It’s something you MUST do. Going into this I prepared myself mentally and physically. Keep a goal in mind knowing that you’ll get better every week and, at the end, you’ll be like a new person. My goal is at the end of all this I’m trekking to the top of Mt. Garfield in Colorado. No more pain shooting from my hip to my ankle. No more restrictions. Also, strengthen your arms and abdomen. That will help tremendously because you will depend on your arms for strength and your abdomen for balance. You can message me or ask me questions anytime you like. I’ve got nothing to do but therapy and UA-cam for the next few weeks.
My pleasure. I did this to try and help others. There’s a lot of people afraid to get the surgery, or who just have questions and concerns before their surgery. I hope this helped.
I'm so glad i found your video. I'm scheduled for April 2 and am also terrified. I'm exercising on the bike, with bands, etc to build up my muscles. It was such a relief to hear others are scared too. I'm fine with doing the recovery steps but just generally petrified. God bless and I'll keep watching!
I’ve heard that so many people are scared of the procedure. It’s nothing like it used to be. The surgery is only about 40 minutes. They put a nerve block in to make the pain much more manageable. I didn’t have a staples, all my stitches are under my skin and the main incision was glued. I saw my surgeon today, 2 weeks after the surgery, and he said I was doing great. Still have a lot of PT ahead, but I’ll put up with the pain of PT to be able to walk and hike again without pain. I’ll be in prayer for you on April 2nd. May God’s peace go with you and keep your mind at ease.
@lc5255 It we really well. I’m at 6 weeks now and am getting better each day. Just gotta take it easy and slowly get my strength and endurance back. My surgery was a smooth as silk. How about yours?
@@PaulEstep My surgery went very well. No pain at all. Even after the surgery. physical therapy is going very good. Getting better. I just have to work on my strength and endurance, and I'll be okay. I'm glad your surgery went well. I will continue to pray for you that you will get better and stronger each day.
Don’t be terrified, know that you will have pain and also know that no pain is equal to no gain…grin and bear it, that knee needs to bend. I am 2 months post surgery, starting to sleep better…just starting. I no longer have pain and have been off pain meds for a month. My knee is straight and bends same as the other one. Good luck. Remember grin and bear it!
@ncm4529 True. My doctor explained that I have something over my scar that keeps germs out. I’m not to wash my knee until the substance that looks like tape comes off by itself. Buts that’s just the surface incision. There’s another incision about 1 to 2 inches to the left of that incision that’s hidden under the skin. That’s the main incision. All this apparently helps prevent infection and helps me get ahead on my physical therapy. I’ve heard of others who didn’t unwrap for a couple of weeks, even having staples hold the incision together. Mine is held by sutures under the skin and skin adhesive. Every surgeon does it different and adjustments are made according to the patients needs.
I'm 17 days out and it's interesting to see how different everyone's experience is. My knee was done using the Mako robot and I started in home physical therapy the day after surgery. I was also given 30 staples and a waterproof bandage. Hope recovery is going well and thanks for the video.
I had the same surgery but no staples. I had stitches under the skin and surgical glue and the waterproof tape. Yes, it is interesting to see the differences. I think that helps us all in sharing our own personal journey. That’s why I started this, to try and educate and encourage others. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing.I will my surgery April 22.Very encouraged to see your attitude.I already have a hip replacement so hope I will deal ok.Hope your continue recovery will be successful.
My pleasure. I did these videos to try and encourage others. Comments like yours encourages me. I will remember you in prayer on 4/22 for your surgery and for an easy and quick recovery.
I love the way his cat is sniffing around his knee! So sweet! Okay, why was he sent home the same day? This should be a 2 night hospital stay with round the clock medication, being pampered by the nurses and assistants with meals and physical therapy, and the like. That’s what I had for both knees. But if it’s for financial reasons, totally understand. And I guess my surgeon was more old-fashioned. I had staples and they were removed at my 2 week follow-up. They didn’t affect anything and just a few pinches when removed.
Where I live they use sutures and surgical glue instead of staples. They also inject the bone with a 36-48 hour numbing agent during surgery. I was up and walking 1 hour after surgery. I’m glad they sent me home…I hate hospitals. My surgery was done in a surgical center and not a hospital. My wife, and cat, pampered me. Things have changed so much with knee replacements, even over just the past 5 years. I think it was only 3 years ago they stopped using staples here. It’s also done with robotics and there are no screws or adhesives used to hold the implant to the bone. The bone, after 4 months, has grown into the implant. It’s truly amazing.
I’ll be praying for a smooth and easy surgery and a quick recovery. Peace and rest for you. Don’t push it and give yourself permission to heal and recover.
Yeah, it can be terrifying. I was actually looking forward to it as I was in so much pain and I wanted my life to get back to normal. Yes, it’s been quite a journey and there has been pain along with emotional ups and downs. But it will be do worth it once I’m all better. I’ll be praying for a smooth surgery and for you to have peace about the process.
Yes. My pain is gone and I’m walking much better. The pain I have now is from the surgery and it’s almost gone. If anyone needs a knee replacement I highly advise it.
Just had my second one 2-6, first one was 10-17, first 2 weeks is a bear, but I’m doing pretty good now-feeling better each day, exercise exercise get that ROM back😊
Mine is 6weeks ago, I'm still swollen and sore. My shin down to my ankle is very sore especially when I walk. I had my other knee done a year and a half ago, I didn't have a sore and swollen shin and sore ankle with that knee. I know all surgery can be different but I don't like the extra pain with the shin and ankle. I have great radious 127 and I'll get even better. Do PT and ice it often and do loads of stretching. Blessings to you for a nice recovery.
You’re doing real well. I also hurt down my shin and it feels like there’s a tight band around my ankle. It’s better, but just have to realize it’s a process and it’ll take time to properly heal. More ice and stretching is exactly what I need. Thanks. God bless.
Yes, I had nausea a few times. It might be the pain pills. It could also be your body reacting to pain and adjusting to the aftermath of the surgery. They gave me nausea medicine which I took for a few weeks after the surgery. Just be careful as the nausea meds and the pain meds can cause intense constipation. I’ll be praying for you. Keep up with your physical therapy. It’ll get better.
Mine was done on April 23rd and I have just completed my in home PT on Friday. I start PT on Tuesday at a local facility. So far this has been a painful experience and I an actually not looking forward to the next phase of PT/Rehab. At this moment laying in bed with the CPM machine set on 120 i almost wish I had not done this. The entire process of exercise followed by swelling and stiffness and pain only to gain some range of motion only to lose some of what was painfully gained the next day is depressing. How are you doing? I hope your experience is better. Thank You Frank
I’m doing really good. However, my first 4 to 5 weeks was very rough. I had doubts and was getting depressed. I was wondering if I would ever walk normal again. But, I pushed through the pain, stuck with my physical therapy, and now I’m hiking up to 2 1/2 miles at a time and will be at 5 miles by July. I still have trouble falling asleep. I still have some swelling and stiffness. All of that is normal for the first year. This is nothing compared to the pain I was in before surgery. I’m close to 130 degrees of flex and will probably get another degree or 2 before I’m done. I have been told that knee replacement surgery is the most painful, has the hardest and longest physical therapy, than any other Orthopedic surgery. So hang in there. It will get better. About week 6 or 7 you’ll start to feel better and start to see improvements. I’m at week 13. It was not easy, but it was worth it and yes, I’d do it again. I’ll say a prayer for you.
I’ve had a lot of people say, after they had the procedure, that they don’t know why they waited. It’s nothing like it was 10-15 years ago. The pain I was having is gone. Now it’s just recovery soreness and physical therapy and in 8 weeks I’ll be ready to hike in the mountains in Colorado. Though I’ve had a tough couple of days I’d do it all over again knowing the final outcome.
There’s some pain, but it was manageable. My knee ached more than hurt, if you know what I mean. They give you a pain block during surgery that lasts about 36-48 hours. Then they also gave pain meds. I used those at night. That’s when my leg hurt most. It seemed like it was wherever my bedsheet would touch my skin around my knee, that’s where it hurt. Sleeping is hard for a few weeks. But it never hurt so bad that I couldn’t walk or get relief. I hope this helps.
It seems that way. That’s the way I felt. But the longer you are into your recovery you’ll start to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there.
Cats make the best nurses..they give lots of moral support!
