I am scheduled for double knee replacement in a month. I have severe Arthritis, no cartilage, meniscus damage and bone on bone. Thank you for sharing the video, gives inspiration to go ahead with mine...
Good morning. You will be pleased in the long run. It's 17 days today and my knee doesn't hurt at all when I walk or sleep. My knee was much like yours and all came together great. I'll probably get my right done in a few years. It's not problematic right now. Best of luck and keep me posted on how it goes for you.
Hope your surgery went well. I am about 7 weeks out of my right TNR. I was walking in the house and fell and hurt my good(left) knee and now I may be close to getting the left knee replaced soon. I see the doctor Monday.
Good job! I’m on day 11 post tkr. Also in Michigan - luckily no snow yet do I can walk outside. Did about 3/4 mile walk - doing about 5k steps s day. Would love to do more but I pay for it in the evening. Was very active before surg so it is hard to hold back. Finding the recumbent bike also helps cuz it not quite as much swelling. I’ve had ‘setbacks’ similar to yours - love walking outside but the terrain can be uneven.
Exactly job. That is the key to a quick turn around....being active. Keep on moving. It's been life changing for me and it sounds like you're heading that way as well. Where did you have it done? Best of luck
I was scheduled to have my left knee done last August but i canceled and now after seeing your progression i called my Dr back yesterday to get it rescheduled..glad to see your doing well with it
Martin. You will not regret it. My advice is with the time left try and get as healthy as possible. I'd like to hear of your journey. Thanks for checking in.
My experience is going similar to yours at day 24 although definitely not putting 10k steps in. Off pain meds completely day 14. Cleared to get back in the pool tomorrow. Still “perfecting” my walk. Stiffness still and strength issues so not climbing stairs normally. Doing well all considered although having a really hard time finding a sleeping in bed position that works for me. Thank you for posting!
Glad you have a date. Did you get a cortisone shot is that why it's out aways? I had to wait 3 months after a cortisone shot. I went for a nice walk this morning. Today was the first time I could operate my clutch on my tractor....I've been trying everyday lol. Freedom!
@@BigelowWoodcraft My left knee has been bad since a basketball injury in college in 1977! So I compensated for that since then and ruined my right hip. Came across your channel tonight. Having my right knee replaced with the Mako system in a couple weeks. I have grade 4 arthritis in both knees, that has really gotten bad over the last six months. Right one is slightly worse so doing it first. Doc said I need to wait three months before doing the second one. Your videos of how you are progressing are really inspirational to me! I am retired but pretty active also, even though it's been very painful. I told the doc that I can't see the post-op pain being any worse than I am currently experiencing! I especially can relate to your getting snagged on a vine or tree root, as I seem to do that a lot now, with my right foot and the right knee feels like it's going to snap in two! So I can't wait to get this done! Although everyone is different, you've shown me that the light at the end of the tunnel can maybe be closer than I may have thought, after watching some other videos!

Great progress Jerry. Week 5 for me and measured 110 degrees at the doctor's yesterday. I thought I was OK to get back to a normal routine and was lifting a lot and my knee got swollen so have been back on the anti inflammatory drugs and resting a bit more. Keep active, exercise but know your limits Jerry. I still get a 'deep' pain in the knee about 7pm each night but it is getting less. Cheers Dave.
Good afternoon Dave. The evening time is the hardest for me. I feel great all day then the pain kicks in. I've slowed down the last 2 days due to stiffness. This ice machine is my new partner lol. That means I'm further into the process of healing. Thanks for checking in and please keep commenting on your experience for me and others.

Thomas good to hear from you. It's not as bad as I thought. Everybody's outcome can be different. I hope you can get that pain resolved. The best thing for me is to keep moving. Stay safe
So, you use a Cain or walking stick? I’m at say 13 following a TKR. I live on a hill. Nervous about walking back up ? Great job. Do you still ice after your walk?
@@johnklink4825 I iced for about 2 weeks. Really didn't need to much after that. I just focused on keeping it elevated when I'm not moving. I used my cain for about 2 weeks. PT evaluated and said go for it. I did take it with me just in case I needed it. You have the worst part behind you. I have not iced in a long time. Best of luck and stay positive.
I hope your said a few words to that branch/vine that hung you up! I was pleasantly shocked on your prior update that you were up and moving around day 1. I had always heard that it was 6 weeks with no weight on that leg...it's surprising how misconceptions spread!
Me and that vine did have a few choice words lol. They actually have you walking within a couple hours of the surgery with full weight. 20 years ago it would have been a totally different process. Thanks for checking in.
Keep up the hope. I was a rare case I guess but I was off the oxy 3 days after surgery and dumped the walker after 5 days. I have virtually no pain except a little after doing PT and an ice pack takes care of that. I started driving about 8 days after surgery with no issues. I don’t take and pain meds at all. I hope some others have a similar recovery. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow and other than a nasty scar I’m ok. I can only walk about a mile but assume that will increase over time.
Thank you. I’m glad to see that I’m not a freak of nature my neighbors saw me walking down the street and they named me the bionic man and 2 of them have had knee replacements with a lot more pain. My range of motion is only about 6 degrees less than my other knee. I have an excellent PT person and he really pushes me but worth it.
nice video, Night time is my worst time, pain does not stop, always twisting and moving, trying to take the pain pills at the correct time to ease the pain for night time, melatonin is useless now I abused that, I had the right side done so I know the pain at night will go away, great cabin by the way we used to go hunting in the Upper peninsula, could have bought 10,000 acres for 10,000 for 10,000 dollars, like idiots we passed

Looks like your coming along nicely. I think I see less limping now than before you got it done. Say Jer , are you and the family packing up and heading south for the big eclipse on April 8 ? I have to head north an hour to get maximum effect. Once in a lifetime event at least for me. Have a great day
I did hear about this eclipse. We will be staying put lol. My wife says the same thing about the limping. It's amazing what happens when muscles and joints get lined back up. Those muscles that were out of wack are letting me know now though lol. I have a new range and plane of motion I have to get used to and strengthened up for.
Good morning Jerry , I had my wife watch the video with me . Her jaw dropped when she seen how well you are doing . We both really like your cabin with the kitchen in it with the couch . She said we needed one of those . Keep up the great work my friend !! 👍🏻🇺🇸👊🏻

No. After about 6 weeks I was 100 percent. At least I feel like it. It's a bit weaker in the weight room but I can do much more than I could before the surgery.
On your first video, you had an ice machine. I’m interested in your ice machine where you got it etc. so if you could put a link or any information about that, I would really appreciate that because that’s about the only thing I can use. I cannot take any pain meds because I’m allergic to all of them, so ice is my pain meds
I do talk about it in one of the videos. It's in either the second video or third. It was my brother in laws. He bought it before Amazon. The brand was called Cryo Cuff. I hope that helps
You're looking good. Well, your progressing well I should say. I better leave comments about your looks to your wife🙂. I think I'd be moving into that cabin for a couple of weeks while the knee continues to heal. Beautiful stop. I've noticed the piano in other videos. Do you play? I don't have a musical cell in my whole body. The only music I can make is when I howl at the dog he howls back. HEY, maybe the two of us should go on the road together. His name is Bonz. Long O, like bones. We could call our group "The Howlers". What do you think????
I think that sounds great lol. Let's go. No I don't play but my sister does. I also have a friend that stays there when he's in town and he plays pretty damn good. Plus it makes a nice place to put the barbecue lol. That place is our little piece of paradise.

I don't take pain killers either i did get prescribed 10 oxy 5s which didn't do shit but I'm also 8 yr recovering addict didn't want anymore than that!!! At 105° bend and having trouble straightening pushing myself hard physical therapy next week hope it comes around im still struggling!! Take care superman!!!
Thanks for the kind words. You're getting there. Keep up the great work.
Hello I am 75 with pains in my right leg they offered me surgery but I am afraid too that. I live like you with sawing tree 🌲 hope you getting better. I live in Sweden.
Stuart that's great to hear. That's exactly my experience. Glad to hear you're doing so well. It's hard work but well worth it.
My Mum just had a total Knee replacement last Monday and got released on the 29th how do you know when your ready to do short walks?
My PT told me 6 minutes 3 times a day right from day 1. I built upon that. I'd definitely talk to to the PT
nice video, Night time is my worst time, pain does not stop, always twisting and moving, trying to take the pain pills at the correct time to ease the pain for night time, melatonin is useless now I abused that, I had the right side done so I know the pain at night will go away, great cabin by the way we used to go hunting in the Upper peninsula, could have bought 10,000 acres for 10,000 for 10,000 dollars, like idiots we passed
@@ecast1500 yeah the pain was always bad at night. Never pain fired up then. The UP is a special place. I too passed on a deal like that lol. I'm in lower the lower peninsula in the upper half. Those deals are long gone lol.
Best of luck with you new knee.
Im scheduled for 2 days to have mine done. I'm terrified and very worried.
You've got this. It's not so bad that it'll ruin your days. You will feel pretty good after a week. It goes so fast.
Lookin' good Jerry.
Thanks Dave. I'm feeling pretty good. I'm looking forward to getting the bandage off and staples out tomorrow. They ITCH lol
If you're in a hurry I got some needle nose pliers. I guarantee I won't feel a thing.
Dr. Dave
Good morning Jerry , I had my wife watch the video with me . Her jaw dropped when she seen how well you are doing . We both really like your cabin with the kitchen in it with the couch . She said we needed one of those . Keep up the great work my friend !! 👍🏻🇺🇸👊🏻
Good morning Del. I'm really feeling great. I built that cabin in 2007 it's 8x16. It started as a deer blind lol. It's our go to spot to unwind. I'll have to have you and your wife up. Thanks for checking in. I appreciate it.
Did you go through pre operative phisiothrapyv or any muscle strengthening excercise
Yes I exercise everyday before and after. Never had to go to a physio prior only for 3 weeks after. My business was exercise so it was easy for me
Hi from Florida I wanted to know if your leg feels heavy anymore

@@BigelowWoodcraft thanks
How soon were you driving again?
@@j.kellybrown8600 10 days. It was my left knee.
Hate those tweaks!
You're not kidding.
Beautiful spot. Needs a bit of TLC but nice spot.
Yes it does. That's my summer project
Great job!!!! I am walking more everyday!
Thank you. Great work.
You will be back at the mill soon at this rate.
I'll probably take the full 6 weeks. I don't want to risk it. But like you said it'll be soon.
Take Good Care Of Yourself! Have A Lovely Weekend!
@@JUANORQUIO thank you and you as well
Wow, you turned out better that I did. My doctor said 4 years ago, I needed both knees replaced but the VA said I was to young at the age of 50 to have it done and we needed to wait. Now both my knees are shoot. I just had my left done in March and my right will be done in July. I have had some problems and am still having some problems with my left knee. The doctor said is was completely bone on bone and had a lot of spurs he had to clean up. I hd been in a lot of pain for the last 2 years and still have some but nothing like it was. All in all, glad as hell I had it done. They say it will get better over the next year with what I had to go thru. Glad to see you are recovering good.
That's right. The pain you experienced before surgery is brutal. At least you're moving forward. Keep it up.
