      Noo thats one of the worse approaches you can have if you want to be successful on youtube. Yes, enjoying to profuce your own content is important, but you need to be thinking about what the youtube audience wants alot.

    • @jacksontimegaming
      @jacksontimegaming 10 місяців тому +2

      @@michaelthomas1614 really depends on your motifs. If your sole goal is to be a 'big" youtuber then I'm sure you can find what the people want and tailor to that ... For me I love gaming, I love the process of playing, recording, editing and creating ... I could tailor this to what audiences want but I'm much more likely to keep it up and most importantly, still enjoy doing what I love, if I do what I care about in the first place. To not think about your target audience is of course naive but I'd always implore doing it about something you're passionate about, there will be others that are also passionate about that and then it's trying to deliver it in a way those others like.

    Shorts are indeed working really great for me on my second channel. I mean, I am just small content creator and I work really hard (I also use a bit of Famester, but I honestly think that is a necessity nowadays). I just give all my videos small initial dose of views and likes, and that causes them to spread literally everywhere, bringing more and more organic views day after day.

    • @Blarnix
      @Blarnix 3 місяці тому +7

      You don’t really need Famester or whatnot. Buying subs or promoting only causes issues, because those subscribers won’t be fully engaged, driving down your CTR. Try just growing naturally and see where that gets you. The best UA-camrs never needed those things to grow.

    A good approach is also drill down by niche and channel size like a certain number of channels with 0-100, 100-500, 500-1000 and so on so we could have an idea. A small channel may have 80/20 viewd/swiped away with a couple views because there is no data to the algorithm figure out like watch history while a channel with at least 500 to 1k subscribers can get traction with 60/40 due to history data well established. Even after that there is no guarantee since UA-cam has hundreds of triggers embedded in the code. All we can do is consistency.

    For anyone who is reading this right now, shorts are broken only for very smaller channels like me. No matter how many times you post a short, it always get 0 views. Before that (in few days ago), the views starts to pop up as only after 14 minutes since uploading the short. The same short of the same views that I usually I get before are the views I normally get from long-form content due to the algorithm glitch where my views for long-form content are now barely. First, long-form is broken, now shorts are broken. UA-cam is broken, I hope this issue gets fixed soon. #SaveSmallChannels #SaveSmallUA-camrs

      I truly agree with you. Nobody is talking about it. It's happening with my channel also. It's my 5th month and I struggling where as some people are growing like anything. Within a month or 2 they are having a lot of subscribers from shorts. And the long form content as you said it's suffering immensely. I have no words. Sent feedback so many times tagged @teamyoutube on Twitter, comments on UA-cam 's Instagram handles so many times informing about this issue but they even don't reply to me. It's unfathomable how UA-cam works.

      I believe this..I found a channel that only had about 1,000 views from 6 years ago..the creator stopped creating (there was a huge gap) and then the next video ( after disappearing for 6 years) had like 200,000 views and I was like 😮🧐🥴 “how ? that doesn’t even make sense “

    In my opinion UA-cam Shorts are defo worth it. It takes me 3 days to complete a half decent or good long form video while a good short takes maximum 30-40 minutes.

    • @alexairplanner

      It really depends if you shoot yourself on camera or not. Then it's definitely not 30-40 minutes and I'd argue that's true in most cases

    Thanks for the input! As a small creator on youtube for fun I have looked at these analytics and even though Paddy findings showed interesting results, it is hard to figure out how YT Algorithm works. I had a video with 60% that picked up traction to 100k while others with only 20% swipe away got stuck at 1 or 2k.
    If we think about Academia research, we need to randomly select all shorts in the pool and not only those with good potential in the respective niche. If he didn't use any research methodology to do that, the samples might be biased and compromised and may skew different results. He's done an amazing job but this code is hard to crack.

    I disagree with this. Based on my personal experience I can see that the algo is pushing content onto me that it selected that I make a point of skipping and yet it keeps sending me not only the same type of content but even the videos that I specifically asked it to not show me. The truth is, nobody understands the UA-cam algo and if someone says they do, I can find data that will debunk it. Now when it comes to Paddy Galloway, he himself has never and would never work with small channels because he knows, it's an uphill battle. Pretty much anybody with an analytical mind can pull off what he did with huge channels that have a much greater margin of error and can afford to experiment because they make UA-cam so much money that it will continue to push their content anyway. So far, there has been nobody who could prove that they could grow a channel super fast starting from scratch and those that tried, failed. UA-cam is full of examples of creators who despite being successful now failed to replicate their own success on other channels without leveraging their existing connections, links, name, etc...

    So average % viewed is NOT as valued as average view duration? Most of my shorts get average % of 90+, while I have them trimmed down to the highlights, around 10-20 seconds (gameplay clips). The takeaway from your video is: don't make shorts very short, make very engaging shorts close to the full minute duration. This is the first place I've heard this advice.

    • @smoose1
      @smoose1 11 місяців тому +1

      yes I can’t give any solid advice but I took that from this video and applied it in 2 shorts I just posted recently. My most recent short has 75% viewed and a 43sec view duration which I believe is really decent
