As a starting content creator, myself, I have seen quite a few videos regarding the topic you are covering, from some big channels. But I never seen so cohesive, on point and actionable video telling you exactly what and when needs to be done, I will have this video on my 2nd monitor when making my next video :)! Great job!

Actually getting to the specifics and details of how and more importantly why a viewer will stay to watch a video. Every other video I've seen on this just glosses over everything and never really gives anything inciteful enough to promote noticeable change. Understanding the why along with knowing those specific statistics in the first 30 second of a video is going to be really helpful, thank you so much.
Thanks a lot! Yes, I plan on doing the same for the next few videos. I don't want to repackage what everyone is already talking about. I want to use this platform to share my unique take and make it actionable so it has real value.
It has been a huge benefit to me and my channel to see you building your channel and growing so rapidly!! Can’t wait until I get to your level and become fully comfortable with speaking to my audience through the lens!!
This is an exceptional video and well researched... Really surprised to see you with such a low subscriber count It won't be long before you blow up if you keep giving this kind of value Good luck sir 🍀

He won't blow up. Because he is in specific narrow niche on UA-cam. What he didn't mention in his video is that Niche matters. Even if you follow the rules presented in the video, the wrong niche won't allow you blow up ever. This channel will never blow up like SunnyV2. SunnyV2 is story, celebrity and controversy stories niche. People like to watch gossip stuff and outrageous stories, but not educational videos like this.

I'm the exact same. This video explained everything so well. I loved that excellent examples were used to demonstrate each point. A lot of work for him to make, but improved my understanding enormously!
Those retention graphs don’t take into account that the majority of the people watching are ALREADY die hard fans that will literally watch paint dry if they uploaded that.
As a newer creator myself, NOT subscribing to you seems like it would be a mistake.. thanks for the info and I wish you luck! Valuable and well delivered content.
Thank you for this video. We just started our channel a week ago and we can't believe how supportive the UA-cam community has been 😃😄 Don't give up on your channel. It doesn't matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop!

Those are some really valuable tips and I wish I have watched this video before... It would have saved me so much time I used on trial-and-error. But I guess it's never too late to learn and improve as content creator (Recently, I also discovered that using a bit of Famester has helped me to level up my channel even more). Keep up the great work, I can't wait for your next video.
Hey, thanks a lot for this comment. I have heard about Famester but I think the only real use case it has is for celebrities who are looking to get massive numbers on vanity metrics. For creators who are looking to grow a community, it is crucial that they are patient and give the algorithm the time to test and identify the right audience for our content. Let me know more about your experience though.
I just want to say, you are one of the best and most helpful educational youtube UA-camrs I have ever watched. Thank you so much and I can’t wait to see your growth in the future!
I genuinely appreciate this comment and the other one you posted! This is exactly in line with how I want people to think of this channel! You just made my day, my friend! :)
❤❤❤ This is so cool and so practically true. I almost dropped off the video after the first 1 minute, but kept watching and later saved the video to watch multiple times later because of how good it relates.
I am so glad you were patient with my video and that you found value in it. Don't forget to download the FREE ebook as well. You can have it handy when you are creating your next masterpiece! :)

I've watched a lot of UA-cam how-tos over the past few years and this is among the best: beautifully clear, and with some insights (e.g. sunk cost, subplots) that I hadn't seen elsewhere, at least not in the same form, or so well explained. Thanks and well done!
Your observations and suggestions are clear and interesting; I will try the quick scene changes in the first 30 seconds on a bunch of my upcoming videos. Thumbs up!
Honestly, this is the best video that truly breaks down the tips and strategies. The vast majority of others simply skim over everything without actually explaining. The doubt chart was a phenomenal visual aid. Extremely valuable, would highly recommend to anyone.
I appreciate that! That key visual was the crux of everything! Thank you for calling it out. You can download our handy eBook on the same topic. That is correct. It is a tactic that is the most unique as well as it is tricky to implement and requires some level of creativity. Do share if you implement it in one of your videos!

I really think this is niche dependent. A 70% avd would be common for an entertainment fast moving kind of channel. Especially for the type of challenge videos Mr Beast puts out. Let's see the avd and stats of education channels, how to channels and others that are in a different niche. I'd love to see how their numbers translate and how to make it work.
Hey, let me start by saying that I like the vibe and the energy that your channel exudes. Top marks for the art style and executing it consistently. Coming to your point, I agree. However, given the absence of publicly available data, this was the best benchmark I could find from a reliable source. I think there is merit in checking with the group members of this channel to submit their retention % and their niche. What do you think? Would you be willing to provide that data for your channel if put together a survey and compile it for this group?

This is the first time I've actually seen something explained this well. I mean man's just went all in with practical examples, I think I need to start implementing these strategies, upto now all I've been doing is use b-roll and didn't even think about changing backgrounds and all.. thanks

This is awesome, it’s understandable and relatable. Most of these channels that say they are helping us creators, only deliver empty content, fancy editing, but no substance. I leave their videos knowing less than I did when I started.
This is an extremely valuable video! With 10 years running a media company, i believe this doesn't just apply to youtube as this is entirely how we edit promotional and event videos - this was a great watch! Very useful for small creators to apply easily! Subscribed :)
My opinion is that best in class retention rates will vary across different niches. 35% still would be on the lower side and you can use some of the tactics mentioned to push it. Fantastic piece. I have been searching for videos for a very long something that can help me structure my script. Finally found this one. Thank you so much
Hey, thanks a lot for the support! Yes, the idea for this channel is to make things actionable to the T. No point in talking about fluffy strategies that sound good but mean nothing. :)
This video is by far the most helpful creator video I’ve ever seen, and I’ve watched hundreds of them. Huge congrats - you’ll hit 100k subscribers by the end of the year I have no doubt.

The thing that you mentioned about Sunk cost fallacy is so true. Even with this video of yours, at the 1:20 mark, I felt I was not getting what I wanted in this video. But my mind forced me to continue. That being said, at the 7:48 mark I'm glad I continued watching. You've shared some really good facts.
So glad to hear that! If you liked the video, I believe you would like this handy eBook as well. It has a few excerpts from the scripts of the top creators as example as well. You can download it for FREE from this link - creatortalk.gumroad.com/l/retentioncheatsheet
Great stuff, you made me go back and re-asses a lot of my opennings and it's dead-on, the higher retention ones are visually extending the thumbnail , and have added text, with faster visual switches after the first 5 seconds, definitely valuable insgihts, thank you!
Yeah, it actually is fairly simple once you integrate it in your scripting template. I have done the same for myself, which forces me to think and structure my video in that manner.
To all the small creators out here this November: we’re on the rise! Keep grinding, stay consistent, and let’s grow together. Much love to you all-this journey is just the beginning!

Hey @MickDrivesCars - this comment made my day! Unfortunately, this is my first video on UA-cam. I feel I really delayed the start of my UA-cam journey. I have been super passionate about this space and I have been doing a lot of research since Covid times. Finally, I took the leap and started sharing my notes. From the comments on this video, I do feel I should have started earlier. But better late than never. Thanks for the support again!
great vid 2:58 first 5 seconds of the video open up from the thumbnail. 3:49 reinforce the core concept in the first 5 seconds 7:58 there anything left to watch in this video? (ive been suffering from this exposing my best content right away and having the vid fall off)
Thank you for talking the time to create a video that breaks down the process completely. Lots of other YT experts have tried and fallen short. But your's is clear and concise. I'll be sub'ed and ready for more - Best wishes - Paul 😃😃😎😎
You my friend as kind! I have posted a new video on storytelling structures and tactics. I am sure it will give you some new insights as well! Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/zSVYfQsHUxU/v-deo.html
Thank you for the information. I’m always looking for new ways to improve my videos on UA-cam. This video explains what I need to focus on in a way that is easy to follow and implement.

Sirrrrrrrrrrr, I didn't even think that this is a new and small channel till the end. After watching this video, i was shocked to see around 500 subscribers. Your thumbnail hooked me into the video which i was looking for. UA-cam suggested me🤓. I can see very Unique & Deep content, quality production value here. 1Million is awaiting for youuu sirrrrr. Love from INDIA.💌

Great video! All the info was thing I have heard before, but you did an awesome job of explaining how and why. That should help me commit more of these items to memory
Great explanations as to why my retention rates are terrible aaand now I’m actually kind glad. I watch none of those people because their videos are too fast and loud and make me nauseous. I never appear in my videos, ever. I guess I’m happy to present info to the tiny segment of the population that doesn’t need meth-like stimulation at all times. Possibly even people capable of watching a movie without also being on their phone! 😮
Haha! I definitely did! It is time for the smaller creators to take the stage! Thanks for this amazing insight. Like so many people ramble and dont go real world examples. The subplot idea is something i have been trying to nail for some time!
This was a great video, heaps of practical tips that made sense. I recently had my first video get some views and I noticed it was because I changed the cuts every 2 seconds. Glad to see your formula is backed on evidence.
Actual tips, graphs, and examples! Not just speaking into a camera or some half done animation. Better then the same regurgitated BS from some popular channels that are just trying to push you to their course to spew the same blain information but make you pay for it 😂 Great video!
Haha, thanks for the acknowledgement! Yes, I do my own research and that is the reason why it takes me longer to create a video. I always knew that I will not be pushing out a video every week.
I was just writing my script for my next video and I can tell you that I'm reviewing it and trying to action some of the points mentioned. Well researched and executed.

Thank you. I will check it out.
Which video software you used in this video?? Any suggestion for faceless channel?? Video software?? For person who is new on youtube??
Can a lot of this stuff also apply to UA-cam shorts?
Thanks I learn alot on this video
First time I’ve seen ACTUAL actionable tips and not just the same thing repeated across other channels - great video!!
@bbyblessings - Hey! You have no idea how much this comment means to me. *Your comment is the very first comment on this channel. Thank you* for taking the time to do that! 😃

THIS IS SO TRUE . Most of these tip videos are all repeating the same thing that mrbeast has mentioned in all of his interviews.
Fr I hope this helps me engage my viewers more
And how they are actionable?
Thank you!!!

It's hard!
Are You Here. As a Thumbnail Designer, I realized big UA-camrs also watch UA-cam tips videos also. Big Fan from Pakistan.
This channel actually shows the definition of "underrated" ,hope these contents grow
You're so kind! I am glad you found value in this video!
Notes from the video:
- CTR and AVD Impsact potensial views
- Click = good tittle and thumbnail
- Why do viewers drop of a video: The viewer journey (thumbnail and tittle gives viewer a promise of what to get in teh video) and a s acreator we need to make sure we promise this to the viewer and keep them from getting doubts.
How to deal with the "doubts"
- When do those doubts kick in
-- The first one kicks in when the viewer starts watching the video, and the creators deal with this by maintaining visual consistency between thumbnail and video within the first 5 seconds. (as well remember youtube has a sneak peek option)
-- Use keyboards in the video, visual
-- Reinforce the base concept right at the start (first sentence) - call out what the video is about
- Doubt 2: is there anything unique about the video
-- Creators show this, they do not say this
-- Creator tactic: Overstimulate the viewer with a lot of visuals
3 things "top creators" do in the first 30 secounds
- cut to a new every 1.7 secounds
- Have about 19 shots in the first 30 secounds
- < 1 in 5 shots was a "talking head" shot
- use B-roll footage
- throw a barage of hooks at the viewers
How to make your intro dynamic?
- cut to anew shot every 1.7-2 secounds
- limit "talking head" shots to less than 20%
if you can retain viewers for the first 30 secounds, you have done half the battel
Sunk Cost Fallacy (SCF)
- concept: the longer a vier has watched the video, the more resistant they are to drop off from the video (due to the time they have invested so far)
Last doubt: "is there anything more to this video?"
- Break sensory monotony with pattern interrupts
-- change the background
-- use text overlays (different versions)
-- switching cameras
-- B-ROLL footage
- Augment the main storyline
-- single storyline can be hard, to keep viewers intrested (need a plan to re-engage the viewer mid way through the video)
-- for educational videos:
--- main story about something (exaple: AI)
--- sub plot: a challenge, human vs AI
Hollywood:
- average shot duration has declined from 12 seconds, to 2.5 seconds
- to action this (2 steps)
-- change the visuals every 10 secounds after the 30 secound mark
-- Get input from a firend on when thye zone out
Best stroyteller makes there story engaging by having sub plots within there baseplot
will try all of this for my newest video
We have made it easier for you.

I agree to that point!
True, but what about for outliers or viral videos?
They became die hard fans through good content or else they would have never gotten them to subscribe in the first place.
@@JoeyPajamas not exactly.
@@RonanRuns what do you mean not exactly please explain
Bro, this is great
Hey, you have a massive channel bro! Thanks for the support!
As a newer creator myself, NOT subscribing to you seems like it would be a mistake.. thanks for the info and I wish you luck! Valuable and well delivered content.
Thanks for the sub!
More to follow my friend! 😄
wow, you are really good at turning creator knowledge into practical advice and tips
Love your videos ❤
Hey, thanks a lot! That's the plan. I will focus on keeping things actionable else, I dont want to create 'feel good' videos.
Thank you for this video. We just started our channel a week ago and we can't believe how supportive the UA-cam community has been 😃😄
Don't give up on your channel. It doesn't matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop!
You are spot on @JustTwoGuysIreland!

Hey, thanks man! I hope the video gave you 100% value as well! Happy new year!
@@CreatorTalkYT Will try use it, thanks and happy new year too 😄
I've watched a lot of UA-cam how-tos over the past few years and this is among the best: beautifully clear, and with some insights (e.g. sunk cost, subplots) that I hadn't seen elsewhere, at least not in the same form, or so well explained. Thanks and well done!
quality video, deserves more views!
Hey, thanks a lot! You made my day. I am glad you got value from it. 🙏
Your observations and suggestions are clear and interesting; I will try the quick scene changes in the first 30 seconds on a bunch of my upcoming videos. Thumbs up!
I get 20% retention at best, I guess I better get to work...
Yeah, that means you need to enrich your content further that people feel that every next minute will give them some new value!
This is the best video I've seen on UA-cam in a long time, and I wasn't even searching for UA-cam tips. Thanks for making it!

"Augmenting the main storyline with a sub-plot" is the most important one!
That is correct. It is a tactic that is the most unique as well as it is tricky to implement and requires some level of creativity. Do share if you implement it in one of your videos!

This is WAY BETTER than most videos I've seen on this topic. Very well made video with actual substance in it, subscribed!
I am so glad you found value in this video! Thanks a lot for this comment!
1) cut new shot every 2 sec
2) 19 shots at first hook
3) Face less than 20%
4) Ali setting slides we can set whiteboard animation
Just wow. My retention for this video is 100%. Very well done.

This video is actually very well curated ! To the point and actionable tips !
The onlu vid on YT that tells you how to improve the quality of the edit, not saying usless things that all UA-camrs says, perfect video well done
Thanks for that! Don't forget to download the free eBook from creatortalk.gumroad.com/.
This is awesome, it’s understandable and relatable. Most of these channels that say they are helping us creators, only deliver empty content, fancy editing, but no substance. I leave their videos knowing less than I did when I started.
I know what you're saying. Honestly, I have been in those situations as well. That is when I started to do my own research.
@@CreatorTalkYT please do one on unboxing 😀😀, please,
You nailed it by implementing the concepts you explained in this video. Summarization of so many insights in few points is very valuable.
Ok… this is the absolute best video made on retention and understanding the audience. I will use what you’ve stated. Thank you so much
This is an extremely valuable video! With 10 years running a media company, i believe this doesn't just apply to youtube as this is entirely how we edit promotional and event videos - this was a great watch! Very useful for small creators to apply easily! Subscribed :)
It is comments like these that act as fuel for the next video concept! Thank you so much!
This channel will definitely blow up!! Great content
This is actually so helpful. Most of these I haven’t heard yet and I’ve already watched probably 100 youtube guides
You made my day! So glad you found value! :)
Visual monotony, thank you. I think I found my problem!
Great video, you are great. Earned my sub!
Thanks for the sub! Also, do not forget to download the FREE ebook!
Im usually around 35% for the video and 70% for the first 30 seconds. Going to put these into practice
My opinion is that best in class retention rates will vary across different niches. 35% still would be on the lower side and you can use some of the tactics mentioned to push it.

Fantastic piece. I have been searching for videos for a very long something that can help me structure my script. Finally found this one. Thank you so much
I'll drop a comment too, the fact you've drilled into specifics and how to action them is golden.
Hey, thanks a lot for the support! Yes, the idea for this channel is to make things actionable to the T. No point in talking about fluffy strategies that sound good but mean nothing. :)

Love this man!! I just see you are going to be one of the next best creators on YT.. wish you the best!
Bro, this is some good stuff. I'm glad the algorithm recommended it. It's nice to learn some practical tips among so much noise out there!
By far one of the best video I’ve seen on audience retention. Well done!👏👏

Much love to you all-this journey is just the beginning!
this video was actully amazing, honestly suprised it didn't blow up itself.

There's 0 chance this is your first youtube channel right?
Just shared this to a few creator friends. Fantastic video.
Thanks for the support again!
great vid
2:58 first 5 seconds of the video open up from the thumbnail.
3:49 reinforce the core concept in the first 5 seconds
7:58 there anything left to watch in this video? (ive been suffering from this exposing my best content right away and having the vid fall off)
How well he structured everything is unbelievable 😮
Point to point ❤
Thank you for talking the time to create a video that breaks down the process completely. Lots of other YT experts have tried and fallen short. But your's is clear and concise. I'll be sub'ed and ready for more - Best wishes - Paul 😃😃😎😎

Mind blowing! First time I saw someone talking about the real problems and how to fix them.
Less than 5k subscribers. Very surprised. Extremely well made video

Excellent video. Thank you for your work! I Learned a lot here. I have a small channel and I will be implementing some of these ideas. Appreciate it!
That is amazing to hear. Do let me know how this impacted your engagement metrics. :)
