    when I was plant based, I was 400lbs and over 60 inch waist. now that I am keto/carnivore I am 200lbs and 32 inch waist. It was the keto life that gave me the energy to exercise and helped reduce the pain that prevented me from doing so.

      I saw this as an undergrad I can’t imagine what the PH.D route looks like. My professors would get borderline offended if anyone expressed a different opinion. I thought college was about discussing different views and ideas but anything outside of the “norm” was shut down immediately. It made the whole college experience nothing more than an exercise in conformity and brainwashing.

    Doctors need to get solid nutrition training. They need to get off the Pharma bonus wagon. Then they can talk to me about my health! I got MYSELF off 5 meds (BP, osteoarthritis, GERD, A-Fib, Statins) with IF and Keto. Lost 55 pounds. Maintained for two years. Best I have EVER felt.

      IIRC, nutrition (food) was removed from the Hippocratic Oath that MD's take in the USA per the AMA in 1963 or 1964. For over 2,000 years nutrition/diet.food were central to the practice of Western Medicine in the Hippocratic Tradition.
      The AMA will probably NEVER undo their early 1960's error. They actively go after MD's who have the audacity to dabble in dietary and nutritional interventions. The AMA wants to censure and delicense such MD's.

      @@debbiec6216 The general reference is six hours of instruction in nutrition in medical school.
      In practice MD's are compelled to sidestep nutrition and to refer patients to a Nutritionist. These are the folks tasked with promulgating the "dietary guidelines" authored by big ag and food industry proxies.

    I've given up trying to argue my position to people who are in no way ready to hear it. All I really can do is control my own life and how I live it. My success (or failure) on Keto/Carnivore is entirely within my control and I'm no longer willing to give up that control to support some narrative.

If you go against the status quo especially a medicine they kick you out and in some cases doctors have been pounced upon by the FDA and the law and actually run out of the country

    I've enjoyed myself over the past 19 months, learning from ketogenic doctors over the internet. Learning human biochemistry has been a pure joy. My current doctor (young only in practice 5 years) exclaims that I probably know more about human physiology than herself. The internet is allowing us to be our own N=1 Labatory, with the availability of ordering our own labs online. I can't imagine the thought that goes through today epidemically trained physicians the frustration of not being able to help their patients, then having their patients come in with vast improvements in their health, to only go and blast said patient for eating ketogenic. At least my young doctor is open to my ketogenic lifestyle. She's watched my metabolic markers improve over time. All of this I've done on my own. Hopefully she'll start to wonder just why this is happening. Like you said in so many words: There is no money in a healthy population, that's why there are no research funds in nutrition, how we can actually heal our broken metabolism. I'm walking proof, as are many.

    Thanks for this video Dr. Cywes. I frequently have to say this to my colleagues in the academia. Science has become a money making machine and as health providers we have to be very careful and look at papers with a critical eye. Read papers from the 30s to the 50s and realize how valuable science was versus what it has become now. Everyone should really stop relying on someone's else advice and rather do their own experimentation under proper supervision, given they seek better health. Now, the publishing also has its upsides because one can use that data to make comparisons and consider (I will say again, just consider) validating or rejecting hypotheses. I believe that, in the end, we need a bit of everything and keep our mind sharp as doctors and/or PhDs. Cheers and keep the good reading!

    Elimination diet and my stubborn permanent 235# dropped to 210 in 6 months. The appetite control was the clincher. Two years hence it's mine, who I am. VA blood work confirms how I feel . It's a good place. 💪

    I’ve come to the same conclusion, after I was put on a third diabetes medication! I was headed for amputation, stroke or heart failure! Doing the same thing, over and over, didn’t improve my health, so I decided to explore alternative options. Very grateful I did! Carnivore has gotten me on the road to recovery, but since I’m not a doctor, my wife won’t believe in my insights. I’ve made great improvements in my health, down from a 54” waist, to a 44” waist, and lost 30 pounds! Going to the doctor to get my check up next week. Hopefully my wife will get her eyes opened, so we can get rid of her fatty liver disease! She’s a sugar addict, and has been all her life! That’s one reason she doesn’t want to believe in me. You have made a profound statement, and I came to that conclusion in August! 77 years old is a hell of a time to start getting smart, but better than never! I’m still looking at the other people’s results, and that’s why I’m watching your videos! Thanks 🙏 😊

    Peer review is often very shoddy. I'm sure not always, but I looked in detail into a paper that was published in a prestigious journal and I was shocked that it got past peer review with such obvious errors in it. They even came right out and said that the results made no sense so they changed how they calculated the results. I'm sure this is common.

How does a 58 year morbidly obese man in 18 months get off his CPAP, get off two HBP meds, and is now unrecognizable from my former self with the energy and stamina of a 30 year old? It was eating whole foods and quitting the shit food that made me sick and obese.

    I can only tell my own story;
    After searching for diatery advice for my father, who has prostate cancer, I bumped into "carnivore diet" (totally nothing to do with his diagnosis).
    I have (had!) a lot of pain in my lower back, and hips, and read some articles about inflamations caused by carbohydrates.
    So I decided to give it a try.
    4 days into the "no-carb life" (not totally carnivore - I might growl through a cucumber one day, cause of the cruncyness), I suddenly one morning stood up after brushing my teeth (being bent over the sink) - thinking "Darn, my lower back isn't acking!"
    That was it for me. Since then, I've totally lost my pain in my lower back, and my hips. I still believe, after a ton of reading, this is because of less inflamations in my body in general.
    I've had my setbacks, indeed I've even feasted on carbs - at weekends - resulting in back- and hip-pains returning for a few days.
    So - for me - this "carnivore-thing" (close to zero carbs) truly works.
    Also, I tried (not good practice, I know) to go off medicine for bloodpressure for a week, cause I got dissy getting up from sitting down, and my blood-pressure is now NORMAL - without meds.
    That's just my story.
    Oh - I've lost some 16-17 kg, down from 116+ - now being around 2-figure digits (as a side-effect) ;)

    You are absolutely right. One only has to look at what "science" has done in the last 50 years. Pretty much nothing new. One can point to The Internet and computers, but it can be argued that these are just expansions of technologies that existed since the end of WWII. We have done virtually nothing in space sciences, nautical technology or medical science. Instead of extending human life expectancy, we've introduced far too many infirmities where doctors simply shrug their shoulders in the face of challenging infirmities, and offer bull-corn diagnoses, just so insurance companies can put a number on what they are paying for.
    Sir Isaac Newton started the process of tying science to politics, and that is the worst direction it could possibly have gone. Like with religion, science needs to be completely free of political influence, otherwise it simply cannot fulfill its potential. We've seen the results (or lack thereof) for decades now.

    14 years ago I failed the glucose tolerance test. I decided to cut back on carbs, not totally but a fair bit. My HbA1C became consistently about 5.7%. To my mind not low enough. I did a lot of experimenting eating carbs and checking my blood sugar. I also started IF 18/6 about 13 years ago.
    I only lost a couple of kilo so remained overweight. About 3 years ago I was put on blood pressure tablets for mild hypertension.
    In the last year or so I have been eating "sorta" ketovore. Lost another kilo or 2. My Doc told me late last year I could drop the antihypertensives. I finally did at the start 2024. Mostly more carnivore.
    I have just had bloods done and get results in a week or so. I expect the HbA1C to be improved. Morning fasting blood between 4.8 and 5.3.
    No more reflux. No more arthritic pain. No more Type 2 Diabetes. No more hypertension. 116 -125/ 67ish.

    Dear Dr Cywes. Thank you for your passion and info.
    Question. Stephanie Person states that we must eat only fat and 60g protein a day! And NO FASTING. Fat fat fat every day, otherwise too much protein turns to glucose and develops diabetes. You mentioned in your videos, you have lean days , and too much fat is not good?. Its confusing. Whats, right protein and fat ratio then? Please❤ thank you ❤❤❤❤

    • @ekondigg6751
      @ekondigg6751 4 місяці тому +1

      Stephanie Person is still in the "macros" paradigm, has some good things to say, but appears sometimes a little mixed up. I agree with her opinion of Saladino's carb idea. Glucose can be made from protein, but it's not an efficient process. The body will only do that if has to in the absence of fat or carbs, it won't be necessary if you're eating fat: that's what the body will burn (in the absence of a significant quantity of carbs). So no, eating too much protein is not going to cause diabetes.
      Also, if you want to lose weight then eating lots of fat will stop weight loss dead, because the body will just burn what you've eaten instead of your own body fat. If you're into macros, then you should at least calculate how much protein per kg of body weight - just mentioning 60g is not useful. But even better, eat until satiety: your body knows best how much it needs.
      As for fasting, if you do regular multi-day fasts then you can lose muscle mass if you don't compensate with some weight training. That's not the case with "intermittent fasting", which I think shouldn't even be called fasting. I prefer the term "time restricted eating", which I started 6 years ago before even knowing it was a thing: on keto, after about 3 months I was just not hungry in the mornings any more and ended up doing 7/17 completely naturally, listening to my body.
