    I was raised to be a sugar addict. My father had a hyperactivity (& other) issue & used sugar over doses to calm down. My mother was depressed. I was allowed all the high sugar items I wanted. I was anorexic in high school but by my 40's was on my way to morbid obesity. I agree with you about sugar. I gave up marijuana, other drugs, ciggarettes, & alcohol but sugar remains. Sorry I can't currently give up my blueberries or raw honey but am aware of what I'm doing.

    We’re very much like bears . As an avid hunter I watch bears come out of hibernation . The first thing that they do is eat green grass and shoots and dandelions Then they switch to hunting the moose , elk , deer and caribou calves and they dig for grubs and bugs as the season progresses . Once the blueberries are ripe they use them to fatten up as we approach the fall. When the berries dry up they become more predatory until hibernation . It’s an interesting cycle that I could see us doing in the past . We don’t hibernate or eat grass but what he’s saying about the two months of berries makes sense . The bears get incredibly fat from the berries. These are mountain grizzlies . The coastal bears are different as they eat all kinds of critters that they can dig up on the beach and then they fatten up with the spawning salmon . They are actually a less dangerous bear because of this

  • @jonnieinbangkok
    @jonnieinbangkok 3 роки тому +9

    I think the rule of "no" is a bit extreme when it comes to fruit...just because this doctor can't control his eating behavior around it doesn't mean other's can't. This doctor is still pretty fat so maybe that's why he doesn't eat fruit. I lost 40 pounds in six months on a low carb healthy fat diet...and ate at least one piece of fruit a day. Living in Thailand, these included apples, bananas, mangos, pineapples, jackfruit, papaya, and the like. I also often have avocados in salads and sushi. In my experience, fruit can definitely be a part of a varied LCHF lifestyle 🍎 🍌 🍍 🥭 🥑

    My rule for eating berries: occasionally, and only when my body is calling for its particular nutrient profile. I recently went two months without eating berries, and I didn’t have any cravings for it, but I’ve been fasting a lot and went a little too far, and I felt that my body needed the nutrients in the berries, so I had about a half a cup with some plain Greek yogurt. Now that I’ve pushed myself that far with fasting I know where my limit is and know how to maintain my eating schedule with ketogenic foods.

But the point that someone made here about avocado having the same amount of sugar in it as limes do makes sense to go ahead and include the limes every so often.

    This is a Eurocentric vision of what hunters gatherers used to eat. The good doc is completely ignoring Africans and all those who lived in tropical climate who had access to fruits all year long along with bushmeat, fish, roots, plants and seeds. Stil today, many of us descent from them and are fruit eaters. Europeans who starved in the mountains during the winter ended up drinking milk from animals, so did a few Africans and other folks from the desert. Those who lived in savanah and forest did not. Humans eat what is available in order to survive. And yes, now that we have food available all the time, including junk food, we must use discipline when comes to quality and quantity.

My husband was a Type 1 diabetic and LOVED pineapple - despite what the nutritional content said the pineapple should do to his blood sugar - it did not raise his blood sugar-almost zero effect - but it was fresh and not over ripe. If a bite or two of pineapple is the worst thing you do in this journey- you'll be fine.

    Typical option of a Brit, who is not cherished living in a country with lots of fruits like lemons, oranges, apricots, cherries. The population there is the leanest in the whole West. Lack of micronutrients leads to obesity. What about the sorb fruit? He ignores the glycemic index: 'small seeds, walnuts, cashews, most whole intact grains; most vegetables, most sweet fruits (peaches, strawberries, mangos,... )'. If only people would live more natural, that means walking and working manually.

    Bullshit, at least in my case. I went from eating meat and eggs every morning to having a protein shake with a handful of blueberries and strawberries every morning for the last twenty years. I don't like sweets as a general rule and never have ice cream or anything like that. The only other carbs I eat are green and leafy, not white like potatoes or rice. Of course, exercise was also a huge part of my rehab. In twenty years I went from weighing 210 lbs to weighing 153, my A1C went from 8.5 to 4.2-4.7, all of my blood lipid levels are perfect. And, I'm now 65 years old. So, in my case, a little fruit did not lead to addiction.

      @@DrCywesCarbAddictionDoc inflammation is key. forget about cholesterol. Coronary artery disease is about inflammation. I had a CABG X 6 20 years ago. In doing my own research because the doctors back then had no clue about metabolic syndrome I learned that addiction to carbs is bad but so is addiction to anything including red meat. Look at the healthiest and longest living populations on earth: they eat primarily seafood with vegetables, including a little starchy vegetables. For me, I follow the glycemic index. If a carb turns into glucose and triggers an insulin response to quickly I pass. But blueberries are relatively low on the glycemic index with a relatively low glycemic load. Potatoes are worse than table sugar. Same with processed white rice. Dates, same thing. Bottom line: not all carbs are bad and not all fats are either. The longest living populations eat very little saturated fat. This is all fun to debate but I know what works for me. I was supposed to die ten years ago and the doctors are amazed at my thriving recovery. They actually measured that my coronary artery disease has regressed.

    Noooooo....not my berries 😅
    It's either that or always ending up drinking massive amounts of sugar free soda. Dunno, what it is...but either consuming about a handful of raspberries or blueberries in my sparkling water each day (or sometimes slices of lemon/lime, when they're in season) or going for the artificially sweetened/flavored stuff, is just what I do.
    And I have no urge whatsoever, to eat other sugary things. Completely cured myself from that with ketovore. I love fruit and miss eating it - but I totally agree, that most fruits are very much a gateway drug into other sweet, high carb foods. So I abstain and I don't have cravings for them per se anymore. But berries in moderation don't seem to have that effect on me and somehow my body starts acting up, if I completely deny it that specific 'fruity' taste. Not sure, if it's a psychological thing (boredom with savory/salty foods) or maybe I do need a little dose of vitamin C or something...but it works for me.

I also think that most berries, in small amounts do not have a significant amount of sugar in them to knock one out of ketosis like all the other fruits do. That’s what all the other keto experts have told me. Also I heard that tomatoes can be harmful for arthritis and are pretty high in sugar. So who is right you or them🤷🏻‍♂️?
