tomatoes, together with eggplants and bell peppers, are part of the nightshade family, and they are technically a fruit. I suppose lectins are not an issue, but what makes tomatoes distinct?
This was my question as well about lemons and limes. Because I need to replenish my electrolytes from sweating so much I put lemon or lime in my water and some salt to help replenish. But the point that someone made here about avocado having the same amount of sugar in it as limes do makes sense to go ahead and include the limes every so often.
This is a Eurocentric vision of what hunters gatherers used to eat. The good doc is completely ignoring Africans and all those who lived in tropical climate who had access to fruits all year long along with bushmeat, fish, roots, plants and seeds. Stil today, many of us descent from them and are fruit eaters. Europeans who starved in the mountains during the winter ended up drinking milk from animals, so did a few Africans and other folks from the desert. Those who lived in savanah and forest did not. Humans eat what is available in order to survive. And yes, now that we have food available all the time, including junk food, we must use discipline when comes to quality and quantity.
With all due respect Dr. Cywes, where do you and others get the confidence in telling 'us' what you profess to be true about carbs, etc. How do you know that all this, 10-20 years down the line, won't prove to be harmful to humans health? If I ate keto, I'd probably NEVER poop! So what u hear you saying is to eat meat and as much veggies as one wants? If berries are chalkful of nutrients, why not eat them?

My biggest problem is that I always loved one of the worst fruits, pineapple, there is nothing that I find as tasty as fresh pineapple with the sour taste, but I resisted for months now
You could try it and see if it raises your blood sugar if you have a meter. My husband was a Type 1 diabetic and LOVED pineapple - despite what the nutritional content said the pineapple should do to his blood sugar - it did not raise his blood sugar-almost zero effect - but it was fresh and not over ripe. If a bite or two of pineapple is the worst thing you do in this journey- you'll be fine.
What about all the populations around the world who lives, or lived, in the tropical/subtropical environments. I bet their diets were rich in fruit like pineapple, bananas, mango, oranges, etc..
Haha. I eats lots of fresh fruit. Long as I'm active. Not had a problem unless I go Way overboard. I sleep well my muscles are full and strong, have a good appetite and a strong 50yo heart. Period. (No vegetable oils)
Typical option of a Brit, who is not cherished living in a country with lots of fruits like lemons, oranges, apricots, cherries. The population there is the leanest in the whole West. Lack of micronutrients leads to obesity. What about the sorb fruit? He ignores the glycemic index: 'small seeds, walnuts, cashews, most whole intact grains; most vegetables, most sweet fruits (peaches, strawberries, mangos,... )'. If only people would live more natural, that means walking and working manually.
Bullshit, at least in my case. I went from eating meat and eggs every morning to having a protein shake with a handful of blueberries and strawberries every morning for the last twenty years. I don't like sweets as a general rule and never have ice cream or anything like that. The only other carbs I eat are green and leafy, not white like potatoes or rice. Of course, exercise was also a huge part of my rehab. In twenty years I went from weighing 210 lbs to weighing 153, my A1C went from 8.5 to 4.2-4.7, all of my blood lipid levels are perfect. And, I'm now 65 years old. So, in my case, a little fruit did not lead to addiction.
Not everyone who drinks alcohol is an alcoholic, but if you are, its best to quit. Perhaps it may be of value to watch today's inflammation video then decide.
@@DrCywesCarbAddictionDoc inflammation is key. forget about cholesterol. Coronary artery disease is about inflammation. I had a CABG X 6 20 years ago. In doing my own research because the doctors back then had no clue about metabolic syndrome I learned that addiction to carbs is bad but so is addiction to anything including red meat. Look at the healthiest and longest living populations on earth: they eat primarily seafood with vegetables, including a little starchy vegetables. For me, I follow the glycemic index. If a carb turns into glucose and triggers an insulin response to quickly I pass. But blueberries are relatively low on the glycemic index with a relatively low glycemic load. Potatoes are worse than table sugar. Same with processed white rice. Dates, same thing. Bottom line: not all carbs are bad and not all fats are either. The longest living populations eat very little saturated fat. This is all fun to debate but I know what works for me. I was supposed to die ten years ago and the doctors are amazed at my thriving recovery. They actually measured that my coronary artery disease has regressed.

Noooooo....not my berries 😅 It's either that or always ending up drinking massive amounts of sugar free soda. Dunno, what it is...but either consuming about a handful of raspberries or blueberries in my sparkling water each day (or sometimes slices of lemon/lime, when they're in season) or going for the artificially sweetened/flavored stuff, is just what I do. And I have no urge whatsoever, to eat other sugary things. Completely cured myself from that with ketovore. I love fruit and miss eating it - but I totally agree, that most fruits are very much a gateway drug into other sweet, high carb foods. So I abstain and I don't have cravings for them per se anymore. But berries in moderation don't seem to have that effect on me and somehow my body starts acting up, if I completely deny it that specific 'fruity' taste. Not sure, if it's a psychological thing (boredom with savory/salty foods) or maybe I do need a little dose of vitamin C or something...but it works for me.
@lovepeace3927 Not all fruits are good for you- I can't believe YOU are that lost. Fruits as we know them didn't even exist till farming started modifying them... now they are just sugar bombs
I’m sorry but I don’t agree with this advice. You didn’t mention anything about lemons and limes that are extremely good for there alkaline effectiveness and for liver health. I also think that most berries, in small amounts do not have a significant amount of sugar in them to knock one out of ketosis like all the other fruits do. That’s what all the other keto experts have told me. Also I heard that tomatoes can be harmful for arthritis and are pretty high in sugar. So who is right you or them🤷🏻♂️?

I have to disagree with this for myself, but then I don't think I am carb-addicted.
I can have a few berries in a day and be fine with just that and not fall off the wagon like an alcoholic having a shot of whiskey and then needing to drink more and more.
Glad someone else here has their own mind. People really think fruit are bad for you🤦♂️
What about lemons for lemon water?
Might as well add cyanide according to this quack!
What about cucumber, peppers, courgettes and the other botanical fruits we eat as vegetables?
Meats and sweets bro. I eat plenty of fruit. It’s not making me gain weight and helps me not eat actual junk food like all the processed packaged crap. Blueberries raspberries and blackberries in whole fat Greek yogurt with honey is very tasty. Nothing wrong with that.
Ahem, if the fruit is enough, why would you need honey with them? And the full fat Greek yogurt has lots of lactose. Sounds pretty carb-y to me..... 🙄
@@IndigoAwakener cause I like it and it makes me happy lol. Probably is carby but it’s not unhealthy. Not all carbs are bad. Sometimes I sprinkle some chocolate chips instead of honey. Better than a cinnamon bun or something with a bunch of veg oils.
That's because fruit is not gonna make you fat🤦♂️😂 people believe everything.
Perhaps in a while have checked your Hba1C and liver (by echography).
If it makes you happy... then I think you are missing the point of this doctors approach to carb addiction....Food SHOULD not make you happy....that's the whole point... That defines an addiction.

I always learn so much!
I love to garden, even though I am a carnivore, so as well as plentiful vegetables, I have plenty of fruit trees, strawberries, berries, grapes etc. I have one or two from each when they come into season. I never buy fruit, but I do enjoy watching for the next fruit tree to produce and sharing a fruit with my husband. My family and neighbors are welcome to all the food in my garden. I am aware of the fructose, so limit my cheat to one of each kind as they ripen.
"If fruit does not exist it your life - you will NOT die of anorexia and you will NOT die of malnutrition." Too funny🤣 There are so many people that think fruit is essential for human consumption.
Gave up fruit when I went keto 3 months ago after being diagnosed as pre-diabetic. Surprised I haven’t missed it. Feeling good, got A1c down. Thanks!
. I love your program. What do you think of drinking Kefir whole milk? I make home made kefir with the "grains" which eats the sugar in it. Is it OK to drink whole milk kefir and Greek Yogart on the Keto diet??

RIP berries, I'm going to miss you.

The rules for eating fruit. 1. NO! 😂 I love it! Thank you for being straightforward, I needed to hear this.
This video hurt 😢
Too deep crying for days😪😪
tomatoes, together with eggplants and bell peppers, are part of the nightshade family, and they are technically a fruit. I suppose lectins are not an issue, but what makes tomatoes distinct?
He probably mentioned it because it’s more common to see. With burgers and what not.
well, there's a chance. zucchini and eggplants are also very low carb fruit, but the taste can not be compared, of course. @@xDDufiosy
Oxalates. All plants have substances to protect them from being eaten.
Where have you’ve been all my life! You the most non-BS doctor I know! Long live the King!
Eskimo is a very pejorative term. Please use Inuit.
How about lemon 🍋 ?
Losing weight fast thanks to this wise man. Was plateauing on the final 10 pounds but now my weight is going down again swiftly
Doc forgot about lemons/limes. They do not contain sugar, but lemon juice is very beneficial to dissolve kidney stones and has other health benefits.
Additives do not make carbs healthy if you are an addict
Both lemon and lime do contain sugar.
@@patricialeonard9622 lemons - 2.5 g of sugar/100g, limes - 1.7 g/100g - its nothing. Your very keto friendly avocados also have sugar - 0.7 g/100g .
What about coconut
With all due respect Dr. Cywes, where do you and others get the confidence in telling 'us' what you profess to be true about carbs, etc. How do you know that all this, 10-20 years down the line, won't prove to be harmful to humans health? If I ate keto, I'd probably NEVER poop! So what u hear you saying is to eat meat and as much veggies as one wants? If berries are chalkful of nutrients, why not eat them?
Glad someone else hear has a brain 🤦♂️😂 it's sad because people really think fruit is bad for you because this guy saying it🤦♂️ not being rude but he's clearly overweight and he doesn't eat fruit at all🤔
What about lemons and limes?
My biggest problem is that I always loved one of the worst fruits, pineapple, there is nothing that I find as tasty as fresh pineapple with the sour taste, but I resisted for months now
I have one a year!! Weight is stable , blood sugar ok if I don't push it. My favorite also!!
Rules for eating fruit; DON'T!
Ketogenic Rules for Eating Fruit: DON'T 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What about all the populations around the world who lives, or lived, in the tropical/subtropical environments. I bet their diets were rich in fruit like pineapple, bananas, mango, oranges, etc..
Haha. I eats lots of fresh fruit. Long as I'm active. Not had a problem unless I go Way overboard. I sleep well my muscles are full and strong, have a good appetite and a strong 50yo heart. Period.
(No vegetable oils)
Period! Can't believe people really think fruit are bad for you🤦♂️ humans are lost
@@cosmonaut9942 Have you tried mixing blueberries with allulose? You'll reduce the fuctose intake but at the same time get all the benefits of anthocyanins!
@@iranjackheelson Thanks for the recommendation. For now, I'm sticking with what has worked for me for twenty three years. My a1c is 4.5 right now. If it ever goes above 5, I'll reconsider my health regimen and make additions or subtractions as needed.
Noooooo....not my berries 😅
It's either that or always ending up drinking massive amounts of sugar free soda.
Fruit are good for you. I can't believe everyone is this lost
This resonates 🙏 but I looove fruit so much... just adore fruit 😭🙈
😭 I'll die of a damn broken heart! 🤣
I am dead already. Firstly i am lonely and unlovable now no more fruit😪😪
Sorry brother, I'm still eating blackberries and losing weight rapidly.
No need for someone to copy the main points on this video, as on some. The Dr. was straight to the point. Can we eat fruit? NO! Lol!! Hilarious!!
I think strawberries and raspberries are fine. They don’t hurt my ketone production and I also get hypoglycemic a lot on keto - yes I check my BGL and I do get hypoglycemic it’s not in my mind
Your someone who doesn't believe everything she hears. I can't believe people think FRUIT are really bad for you🤦♂️ that's sad
Well thankfully, I don't have a addictive personality. I put 85g of berries in my break-fast protein shakes and have a big fat grapefruit in the fridge. Granny smith's have gotten stupid expensive over the years unfortunately, but suppose I should switch back. I eat this bad fruit around my workouts
I am more "addicted" to cheese than I am to apples, for sure.
I'm becoming a cheese addict of late also. I'm also seeing a tin of Mackerel as more of a delicacy these days, like a sweet sugared snack funnily enough.
the notion of giving up apples and strawberries breaks my heart more than giving up donuts
I'm 53 and from South Africa, where it sounds like he is also from. Not sure where he got his apples from - they still look the same to me😂 But I agree that diabetics should not eat fruit.
What drives me crazy is how many diets, including WW, push bananas as a free food!!!! Half a banana spikes my glucose 40 points!
Besides, they are acidic, so if someone have problems with digestion, it shouldn’t anyway
I agree completely.
But still have a hard time quitting with fruit.
Yes, it is addictive.
Dr. Cywes, are peppers (IE: jalapenos, serranos, etc) a hard no, as well? Technically, they are fruit, but I like the heat. I am interested in your thoughts.
So you don't care about the nutritional content but it's the ADDICTIVE nature of them??? Yall can't be buying this🤣🤣🤣 this man said no to fruit 😂

Does this apply to gastric bypass people or only keto carnivore peoples way of eating. I'm just trying to figure out how to eat twenty years post gastric bypass. I have not gained my white back , but am deafly nutrient and iron deficient? Looking for guidance!
I don’t agree with everything you say. Iv been on keto for a while now and been eating 1 and half cups of blueberries a day and still lost a lot of weight. And if I don’t have berries in my house I won’t think about them until I see them in my Fridge.
Can you talk about oxalates and their effect on human health? I am grateful for the info you provide. Vancouver Island, BC, Canada
I hate hearing this. Because I live for watermelon every summer. I can give up everything else. 😢
why exclude berries when its glucose impact is minimal?? Please disclose the fructose content of berries to validate your claim. Dont fudge tings up. You will lose credibility
In tropics there is plenty of fruit all year long. And we are tropical animals. If you want to go "natural", just think where can we survive without using fire or clothes, just naked as from mother nature....Only tropics...and our digestive system is almost excatly the same as frugivores...Fruits are amazing...
Nuts are okay but not fruit? I've never binged on fruit but I could eat tons of cashews and pistachios and never feel full. That's way more carbs than a few berries would be.
I can eat a few berries per day with some Greek yogurt and not crave anymore fruit at all. I also use freshly squeezed lemons/limes with Himalayan rock salt/mineral water, to make a homemade electrolyte drink. Is this okay?
Can’t get anymore simple than No! Lol. Now one explains things better than you, Dr Berry and Dr Salidino. However I need at least an hour of googling definitions when I watch a Salidino video.
What about the current sour fruits such as gooseberry? They are not sweet. Perhaps they have not undergone hybridisation or genetic modification?
I have a fig tree ,it is God's tree,i eat 1 or2 everyday when fresh made fig preserves, only eat a spoonful a day, have reallly learned to control,
Eggplant is considered fruit too. ‘No fruit’ rule applies to this?
I wonder he’s still maintaining this view from 4 years ago.
This is harsh. I understand that it might be necessary, but it’s hard to imagine not tasting the sweetness of fruits and berries. That’s the nature of addiction, I suppose.
Hmmmmm. It’s not the end of the world. No blueberries.
