In this video, we install a Motion J Side Rack and a 3L Fuel Tank on our 2022 Honda Monkey 125 motorcycle.
We first saw the Motion J Side Rack on a video by KackDoy Camping at:

The Motion J Side rack comes with mounting hardware, but no instructions. We emailed Motion J at their shop in Chiang Mai, Thailand, to ask for instructions and received no reply. As far as we know, Motion J doesn't have a web site, but only maintains a social media site that we can't access without joining that social media site. For those reasons, we can't immediately recommend the Motion J Side Rack, although their product line seems to be of high quality. Included with the mounting hardware is a metal bracket, that we have concluded is to be used to replace the rear reflector bracket if you have removed the rear rubber fender extension on the Monkey. We wasted a lot of time and effort, including completely disassembling the rear fender of the Monkey trying to understand how to use the metal bracket.
KackDoy Camping replied to our request for information and confirmed that the metal bracket is not used for the installation.
After the installation is complete, we unbox a Gcraft Flag, and unpack a Kitaco Flag. We'll hang both of these on the shop wall. We bought the Motion J Side Rack, 3L Fuel Tank and both flags at Beezdeals.
    See: beezdeals.com/product-categor...
    And: beezdeals.com/product/motion-...
After the installation, we make a test ride on the Honda Monkey 125. We stop at WaWa to buy gasoline, and then pick up lunch at the newly built Culver's Restaurant in town. We then ride to Lake Beverly to eat lunch and to see if any of the part fall off. No parts fell off.

elizajaya Thanks for watching and your kind words. Normally, we just follow the catalogs for Gcraft, H2C, Kitaco, Revolution and Endurance, and so we wouldn't have discovered the Motion J side rack for the Monkey 125.. We spotted it in one of the videos by KackDoy Camping. See:
      ua-cam.com/video/1ExNwAcwzJ4/v-deo.html
We asked him about it and he said it was Motion J. We then found that Motion J was located in Chiang Mai instead of Bangkok, so we asked our friend Daniel BP in Chiang Mai about it and he made a visit to their shop. His video is here:
ua-cam.com/video/5c58wsza-8w/v-deo.html. We then asked beezdeals to stock them, and we bought two.. one for the Monkey and one for the Navi.

Good to have you back. Always great watching you work on these bikes. These little monkeys move along quite briskly. I’m often riding along thinking I’m doing 40mph, glance down at the speedo and see I’m doing 50 plus, I like the fifth gear.
    Thanks for the ride

The first time I saw Monkey I immediately liked 😀.
Each of your videos, I try to fit into the story like I'm a good motorcycle mechanic🤭.
Shock! There's Together by Roa and I like it because it's also suitable for backsound while driving. You start daring from your comfort zone in choosing songs for your content. I think this is cool😎👍
Oh yeah... Your GoPro shoots great video and I barely heard any wind noise during the trip. Great👏👏👏
Success and health always for you, friend🙏😀

Mancing Tanago, I was hoping that you would see that I used "Together" by Roa. LOL I heard that song in one of your earlier videos and bookmarked it. I have been waiting to use it until I found a good place for it. I do think it is good background music while riding at my usual slow speed. You are the master of matching sound to video, and I am trying to learn from you... much appreciated.
Also, as you point out, using the GoPro Hero 10, with the media mod kit configured to record from the back microphone does a very good job at eliminating wind noise. It is easier to use as well as there is no need to use a remote microphone and finding a place to mount the microphone out of the wind on each of the different motorcycles.
Success and health always for you, friend🙏😀

I bet I am due for one any day now, as the doc has just started me on blood pressure medicine. Yes, I visit that picnic table every evening about dark to feed the White Ibis. When they hear me drive up on a motorcycle, they usually fly over, like I am ringing the dinner bell. This time I was there at lunch time on a hot day, and they would rather just hang out in the shade. LOL

Daniel, Thanks for watching and your comment. By doing a Google search, I think I discovered that Motion J is based in Chiang Mai, but their address is a bit vague. It looks like they make a lot of racks and accessories for various motorcycles. If they are close to you, a visit to their shop might make for an interesting video. If you do visit, you could ask them why they don't answer their emails and let them know I am really pissed off at them. Putting that metal bracket in the hardware pack with no instructions was a cruel joke. I wasted 5 hours, much of laying on my back taking apart the rear fender trying to figure out how to use that bracket. I did receive a reply from KackDoy Camping saying the bracket isn't used, so I re-filmed the video to what I posted. The bracket has one small hole and one large hole. The large hole is the right size to fit over the mounting boss on the underside of the chrome fender, and the small hole is right for the reflector. The problem is that the boss is used by the stock reflector bracket, so I concluded that the bracket was only used when the stock reflector bracket and rear rubber parts have been eliminated.
Today's lunch menu was in the middle of the long ride, so I think most people skipped over it. I made a drive through at the new Culver's restaurant at 21:19 in the video to pick up lunch. Culver's opened a week ago Monday, and I was the first customer there when they opened, so I received a pack of certificates for a free pint of frozen custard every month for the next year.. LOL. I went back there on my ride in this video.
The red CT125 graphics kit arrived from Cub House yesterday. I plan to film the unboxing today, and then decide if I will install it. I still don't know if it is just something a local Bangkok sign shop made, or if it is an official Honda part, or if it is Kitaco or Gcraft or what. One reason I bought it was to figure out who made it and if it is of good quality. After I unbox it, I'll decide if I want to install it. If it is just regular sign graphics, I probably won't install it. It arrived rolled up, and it's possible that Cub House took it out of the original package to roll it up, and I might not be able to figure out who made it. I will know the answer a couple of hours from now once I unroll it.

    • @Vintage_Garage
      @Vintage_Garage  Рік тому

I unboxed the red camo kit this morning and ran the video camera while doing it. I was glad to see that was still in its original packaging, so it will make a very interesting unboxing video. It is made on high quality 3M vinyl. The brand name is simply "CT125 accessory parts". I wonder if the stickers are commissioned by Cub House or who was the actual designer?
I translated the instructions from Thai, and they say to use a solution of water and baby shampoo and to apply them wet. It will take me a full day to install the kit, and I am not sure which Trail 125 to put them on. I really don't think I should buy a third red Trail 125 to put them on. LOL I am leaning to do it on the one I call the Country Trekking, because it has all of the H2C accessories for the Country Trekking, except that it is red instead of brown. The one I call the "Farm Campster" or "Tank II" is still accurate, except that I removed the right sidestand.
We still haven't heard if the USA is getting the 2023 CT125 or the 2023 Dax. I am still hoping for a brown or green CT125 and any color of DAX 125.

      @@Vintage_Garage Good Morning,
I just got back from a brief visit to Bangkok and read your massage. The Motion J is approximately 14 minutes from me via motorbike. I messaged Eddie and Robert suggesting we visit their shop on Wednesday instead of our normal mountain routes via pavement or off road. I have not heard back as of yet. It appears that they have some really unique accessories for the CT, Super Cub and also the Monkey. What caught my eye was the all black skid plate for the CT. I will video for you when we go and if we go this Wednesday. I will be more than happy to address the communication issues and installation challenges that you experienced BUT language my be a issue. We will play it by ear. Have a great day.

    • @Vintage_Garage
      @Vintage_Garage  Рік тому +1

@@danielpredsox I think a trip to Motion J would make for an interesting video. If you and the guys do go there, it would be great if you could confirm the purpose of that heavy metal bracket that comes with the Monkey 125 side rack. Also, when you go to Bangkok and back for a brief visit, do you fly, ride the train, or drive? Lastly, I filmed the unboxing video for the red CT125 camo kit yesterday, but it will take me a couple of days to edit the video. I am still not sure I am going to install it though.. still thinking about it. Going back through the videos made in Japan by クレハの野望【CT125_owner】I found that she beat me to making an installation video about 8 months ago, roughly 2 months after you spotted the red kit at the Chiang Mai Cub House. See:
      ua-cam.com/video/aS1veAnlSTA/v-deo.html
Oddly, she removed many of the camo decals a couple of weeks ago:
      ua-cam.com/video/t2HxtgPDHNw/v-deo.html
Also oddly, she ended up using Trail 125 side decals instead of CT125 side decals. I need to message her and ask more questions about it. For one thing, she cuts off the red stripe around the edge of the Trail 125 decal, and it makes me wonder if the stock CT125 side decals on the green bikes have a green line on the edge, brown lines on the brown, and red lines on the red? Does the right-side decal of your CT125 have a red stripe around the edge? Eddie has already swapped his side decals out, but maybe you could check a brown or green CT125 next time you see one. If "Trail 125" side decals are only available with a red stripe, that might be a bad sign that all we are going to see in the USA market are red Trail 125s.

@@matthubbard8541 Matt, I am a little concerned that Motion J doesn't answer their emails, and all they seem to have for support is their social media page, which I can't access as I don't' have an account on that social media site. The weld quality looks very good on the rack, but it will take a few rough trail rides to be sure. I am also concerned that the two mounting points for the rack are in a straight line, and there is no triangulation. I think if you yanked out and up on the bottom of the rack, it would bend at the mounting points. One gallon of fuel is pretty heavy and bouncing around on a rough ride might cause a problem. I need to make a few more test rides to see if the Motion J rack bends or not. I had to strengthen the Gcraft rear rack after a few hard rides, and Gcraft is very high-quality stuff. Like I say, I need a few more rides on the Motion J rack to see how it performs.

Huxleyhorn M, Thanks for watching and your kind words. I highly recommend the Gcraft side rack for the CT125 Trail. It is very well designed with many different mounting holes, and coems with instructions. I have one on each of my Trail 125s. You can buy the 3L tank separately. Unlike the Motion J rack for Monkey which has a place specifically designed for the fuel tank, the Gcraft rack isn't designed to match exactly the bolt pattern on the fuel tank mount. Rather than drill out the holes in the Gcraft rack, I slightly enlarged the holes in the plastic fuel tank mount, and then used m5 button head screws, instead of the 5mm u-bolts that come with the fuel tank. Using m5 screws instead of m6 will allow the tank to mount securely without modifying the Gcraft side rack. If you haven't seen my Gcraft video, it is at:

I see many new housing starts every day, and there is starting to be a "Rush Hour" on Lecanto Highway every afternoon at quitting time. When the Lecanto Target opens and the rest of the business on the outparcels around it, I think that will bring in some more traffic from Marion and perhaps even Lee counties. When the next phase of the Suncoast Expressway is finished to Norvell Bryant, that will make it even easier to get to the Tampa Airport. I may not live long enough to see it reach Red Level though.. Massimo De Maestri Thanks for watching and your comment. You are lucky to be able to get the Dax 125. We heard that they are only available in Europe, UK, Thailand, and soon Japan. So far, they are not coming to the USA. I can't give you any help in finding the manual. In the USA, the Owner's manuals always come free with the motorcycle, and we pick up the Service Manual at the parts counter at our Honda dealer. There is no chance of getting either manual at a USA dealer.
Vintage garage , how did you survive the last storm in Fla

Terry, Thanks for watching and your interest, much appreciated. We are so far inland in Florida and on high ground so that storm surge and flooding is impossible here. Both of the two hurricanes this summer came within about 50 miles of Vintage Garage, and we had two days of steady rain and top speed winds of about 40 mph. No damage here. We had 25-degree temperatures here the last two nights, and that created more damage to the plants than the hurricanes.

Robert, Thanks for watching and your comment, much appreciated. The rack is a Gcraft rack for the Honda Monkey 125. However, if you plan to use the Gcraft rack, you should watch the two videos referenced at the end of this reply in order to see how I installed the rack and then strengthened it. I have a second Gcraft rack arriving this week for my new yellow 2023 Monkey, but also have a Kitaco rear rack arriving the same day. I plan to give the Kitaco rear rack a try, and if it doesn't do the job, then I will revert it back to a strengthened Gcraft. When all the accessories arrive for the new Monkey, I plan to virtually duplicate the accessories on the black Monkey, including mounting another Quro top case, a Motion J side rack, and a Derazer headlight cover, and the rest of the handlebar accessories. Here are the two videos, and there is no need to watch them in their entirety. Just skip to the gCraft rack install, and then watch the second one and skip ahead to the Gcraft section if you plan to use a gCraft rack with a heavy top case.

So you’re liking that Monkey quite a bit, Eh..??
Do you think it’s because of the 5 speed transmission, clutch, and higher gearing? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤔

Anna, thanks for watching and your question. I hadn't really thought about it until now, but I like the Monkey about equally to the Super Cub 125s, the Trail 125s, and the Navi. It's not really about the transmission and the clutch, although the shift pattern on the Monkey is most similar to the MB5 and the NS50F. I rarely ride those two because they don't have any storage, so I can't run errands with them. Right now I am rotating equally between all six of the new bikes, riding two a day. While all can go a little above 50 mph, I rarely ride over 45 mph, as I am just riding around the neighborhood running errands and relaxing. The roads here are perfectly flat. Bottom line is that I like all of them equally, and don't even notice the clutch and transmission in the Monkey. Shifting is natural at my age, and I don't even think about it. I still tend to gravitate to the Navi, not so much because of the belt drive, but more because it seems to be more a part of me when i ride it. Hands off riding is easy, and it follows your lean the best in the turns. I am out of ideas for new videos, as I have installed every accessory that I found interesting. The reason for using the Monkey for this video was that the rack just arrived. LOL.. I also just received a red camo graphics kit from the Cub House for the Trail 125. I'll unbox it today and then decide if I want to install it. I don't know if it is something that a sign shop in Thailand made, or if it has a brand name. If it is something sold officially by Honda, I will probably install it. If it is just something a Bangkok sign shop made, I probably won't.

@@Vintage_Garage ... The graphics kit sounds pretty cool..!!✅
I find that my normal speed is usually 35 - 45 mph as well, we have lots of small hills and winding roads up here north of I-10 though .

@@annafraley5388 I unboxed the red CT125 graphics kit this morning with the video camera running. I will make an unboxing video about it over the next few days. I still am not sure if I will install it but I am leaning that way. The install will take me a full day if I do it.
