I have to say Nick that your maintenance videos are a strong point of the channel. Very calm and precise delivery of what to do and look out for. I didn't expect a small dog in the tool kit🐶 @1:16🤗
My Monkey will be picked up at dealership next week. This video gonna help with the initial setup. Hear nothing but good things about this bike. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hi Nick - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I've done 11,000 miles on my 2020 4 speed model. Its a fantastic machine and a real workhorse. Modifications I've done have been carrier, handlebar clock, cush puppy handlebar grips and front mudguard extension. I had a small topbox fitted but it cracked the carrier so I now have an Oxford canvas bag, which is ideal. Negatives are ridiculously soft rear shocks and wooden feeling brakes. I have recently fitted EBC sintered pads and the difference in performance and feedback is extraordinary. Replacement shocks will be ordered when in stock. I bought a second chain and swap them over every 1000 miles, cleaning them then boiling them in appropriate grease. I've found it vital to maintain correct chain tension, which at 35mm slack appeared too loose at first. I also change the oil every 1000 miles and inspect the magnetic sump plug I fitted. I've averaged 153mpg from new although the speedometer is 4mph optimistic at 50 so the odometer is therefore inaccurate also.
Thank you so much!! I just got my first motorcycle, a 2024 Monkey ABS; I took the 2-day motorcycle safety training-“boot camp” and passed!! Yea!! I’m a 59yo, 5’0”-tall woman who wants to learn everything I can about how to care for my Monkey. This video was SO helpful. So, how did you know the correct torque settings? I suppose I’ll have to get a “torque wrench”???? Yep, I’m a newbie!! LOL!! How do I measure the chain slack? Can you show me how to change the oil?❤
Firstly congratulations!! Lucky for you I have covered the oil change in a recent video. All my settings are from the Honda workshop manual, you can find this online with a google search, a torque wrench is handy because most commonly people over tighten bolts and snap them, a torque wrench will click when you have put enough pressure on a certain bolt ( providing you’ve adjusted the torque wrench) good luck with your motorcycle adventures, the fun has only just begun
The standoffs on the handlebar clamp furthest away from the driver are usually a bit longer then the ones closest. The reason is that when you turn the two bolts furthest away from you first till bit resistance and then the two closest, the clamping block actually properly pulls over the round shape to clamp the hardest without deforming the bar. Cross tightening is working against the design of the clamping block. It probably wont matter with a 125 but it is wrong information that can be bad for people with bigger bikes.
Hi Nick great intro to the Monkey maintenance, amazing tips. Just picked up mine ❤ Euro5 model You refer to torque specs in your video. Where did you find out about these? Unfortunately my owners manual does not have any torque specs. Thank you greets from Germany
Great video Nick. Making the bike fit you is a must for all riders, and everyone can do it. Any plans for customisation of the bike in regards of parts, other of those already done?
great video, thank you. looks very easy to make adjustments. Question for you or to any of your viewers, how much has servicing cost on a yearly basis? any unreliability issues at all with the bike?
Hi, this model year is the best one to own, with improvements from the older models, so its a lot more reliable (not that the previous version wasn't) service cost is cheap, about £110 main dealer, or do it yourself for a fraction of that, i will be posting a detailed video of the service being done in the near future
Has anyone put a set of folding bars on this bike. I have a motorhome and one of these would be brilliant but are a bit of a tight fit with the standard bars. You can buy them from Thailand, so just wandering. Great video.
Buy it here www.ebay.co.uk/itm/405009105618?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=_QCxPrBSSWS&sssrc=2051273&ssuid=_QCxPrBSSWS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
If the Battery Screws are loose your Mechanic was drunk in the first place. The Dealer has to install the Battery Cable on a new Bike they are off during Transport for safety. And cuddle the Safety Inspector from us

Enjoy, good times ahead ! Thanks for watching and commenting
While you have the seat off it's a good time to install an SAE charge port for a battery tender.
All done bud
Love the color scheme of that bike. Great video!
@@tractordan933 cheers !
These are good videos to show us more about the detail, quality and ownership of the Monkey.
Yeah not many youtubers do this, i personally like seeing tool kits and under the seat of various motorcycles,

not on this model, which is what the video is about, but thanks for the input
Also recommend 6 point socket over just any old socket.
Great tip
6point is way to go buy right buy once.

Hi, could you trim down the bars a little bit?
I love this Bike and this VDO Clip.
I love this comment
The chain doesn't seem too loose, about 3-4 cm, maybe my perception is wrong.
Hard to tell on a video
Cool mini bike!
Great video! What is the luggage rack that you have fitted?
EBay special. Does the job !
