The string section is in other songs. Corey Henry is the keyboardist. Unreal. And Larnell Lewis is the drummer. Fun fact: this was recorded and filmed in the Netherlands, and the original drummer had issues with his passport, so they got Larnell to fill in. He was only barely familiar with the material (I think 2 songs) and had to learn the rest while in the 7 hour flight and the cab ride to the studio. Also, “learn” is a bit of a misnomer, since these songs were barely written yet. They existed in structure form, key changes, basic melodies and time signatures, but the musicians were responsible for filling out the details themselves. They had been working on this song for 2 days, and it wasn’t coming together. Then in walks Larnell who learned the song structure for all 13 (I think?) songs in this session during that one plane ride, wrote his own parts in the process, and then they nailed this song. Everyone involved said Larnell brought all the songs to life. And the keyboard solo. Enough cannot be said about Corey’s ridiculous solo. It’s the type of solo I’ve heard musicians, keyboardist especially, say makes them want to quit. It’s too good

Every single one of them is an exceptional musician in their own right. Put them together and the sense of JOY they bring is beyond compare. Their skill in their musicianship with the ease of delivery and the depths they go within themselves to produce those fantastic solos is an absolute anomaly to me.
The respect they have for each other. The ability to play just enough to fit in and yet when required to step up and Star. Just mind blowing. Written, (structured) yes. Improvised, yes. Jamming (feeding off each other) yes. It's all there. This is an exceptional group of people led by an exceptional composer and band leader Michael League (the bass player) doing an exceptional thing that brings pleasure and joy to countless thousands of people across the globe. Sounds like you have joined the club. Checkout pretty much anything else they've done and enjoy.

And then second, they did a song with Jacob Collier, who you reacted to a couple days ago, and it is appropriately strange and mesmerizing.

The horn players ran their instruments through guitar pedals into amps, which was really cool. I completely understand you. :) Few years ago I heard Snarky Puppy for the first time and my life was never the same after. Please, listen to Snarky Puppy - The Curtain. I think you will want to hear it. You have good heaphones, you have silence around you. Shut down your phone and listen to The Curtain.

I am so happy....all of you musicians were BORN, I really do. I love you guy's parents, for birthing such amazing musician specialists into this mundane world of hell. Life became tolerable from just experiencing this intricate musicianship and master class contribution. I don't understand why music does to the brain and spirit as it does. But I NEED it and can't balance out my life without it. It's another language another form of LOVING someone if thee creators want it to be. For my mental health.....please stay safe and healthy.

This is a band of generational talents. The rhythm section holds it down beautifully, the horns are tight and crisp, the strings are fluid and tasteful, and Cory Henry's solo on keys will probably become an entire module in music schools around the world for at least the next century. Snarky Puppy is an experience.

Man, you have one of the most soothing voices I've ever heard. And you also have a very personal way with words.
I hope you will react some day to Sofi Hellborg, pretty sure you'll appreciate her music since you like horns. And C2B3 Opening Jam for over-the-top improvisation.

If you were thinking about doing another Jacob Collier reaction, check him out sitting in with Snarkey Puppy and kill two birds with one stone. Another great listen is Snarkey Puppy with Layla Hathaway, Donny Hathaway’s daughter.

My problem with Jacob Collier is that his music conveys the feeling that he's just really pleased with himself all the time.

@@ShredST Jacob Collier is best when he's being reined in by other musicians. That's why him with Snarky Puppy is so good.
