They just did a set on the "Zildjian Live" series which, by the way, needs to be at the top of your list right now if you haven't been watching them yet. I’ve spent three days now going through reactions to people seeing Cory’s solo for the first time The look of awe never fails to appear. The kid is unbelievable.
I am a musician and went to school for music, and have easily seen hundreds of shows. Cory Henry is the most ridiculous musician I have ever seen in my life hands down. I have had transcendent experiences at his show. Not only is his playing out of this world but the energy that he has is next level. I have seen him jump around the stage singing and play organ and keys all night. Every time I see him or take my friends to see him everyone there says "this is the most incredible music I have seen in my life". I once even saw him do a completely improvised mind-blowing set with Isaiah Sharkey on guitar (who played with John Mayer, and Taron Lockett (who played with Prince, Snoop Dog, Willie Nelson etc.) on drums Seriously think Cory Henry could play a watermelon with his ass and make better music than most. Definitely check more of his stuff out and see him live ASAP.
I laughed so hard when I started watching you watching this legendary performance... I’m just like “bro just put your guitar down”. And then you did - and watched it the way I watched it the first time and you “got” it! I have been wishing to share that moment like that with a friend and loved watching this honest reaction - thank you. I was like “if you think that’s great wait until you hear Corey’s keyboard” and your reaction was perfect.
Imagine being this far in your career, as clearly a talented musician in your own right, never having been introduced to Cory Henry or Larnell Lewis, and getting this as your introduction. He INSTANTLY recognizing their greatness.
Michael, I'm watching this at 1am and I've watched this snarky puppy recording many many many times, however watching you reacting so purely and honestly to this took me right back to my first view and reminded me of my first reaction ... awe, wonder, amazement, confusion (how can this be so good and how is it even possible!!). Its why I love music ... and so glad that you also had to put the guitar down and marvel at the sheer excellence at what had been achieved. Keep up the great work ..
Dude, I had to stop this 3 mins in to say this, with so much darkness in the world right now your channel is bringing so much light, when a Palmisano vid drops it’s possible to take ones mind off of the madness and feel joy through the love of music. Your work is achieving soo much more than you realise... I’m so grateful that you’re here right now THANK YOU 🙏🏻 You’re an absolute legend!!!
I agree, and I’ve been steeped in it. This video gave me a mental health break for sure. It was fun to watch someone discover this tune (and video in particular) and just need out about its madness!
THANK YOU for spending so much time on the drummer. He's far and away my favorite part of this video, and I think he gets slept on a lot in comments about it. Yes Cory Henry's solo is out of this world, but MAN THAT DRUMMER MAKES THE SONG.
If you like him on drums in this song, check out shofukan. Same session, but there is a drum break toward the end that I swear rips a hole in the space time continuum
My favorite part of every Lingus reaction is the part halfway thru where people start looking up, like they're trying to see if God can explain to them what the heck is going on, only to realize that no, he's already down here, and he's on keys.
This set of sessions for "We Like It Here" was the 3rd time in a row that Snarky recorded an album LIVE in a studio (with an audience), previous instances are "Tell Your Friends" and "Ground Up" (great videos of pretty much all of that stuff). They chose to do that because they are first and foremost a LIVE band, this is how they play all the time. OK, it is true that when they do this, they do multiple runs through the material, like might book 4 nights in the studio and do 2 sets each night with the audience, so they do get maybe 8 takes of every tune, and obviously the ones we see in the recording are the best takes, but still. I've seen Snarky play live 8 times over the past few years, and their performances are aways insanely wonderful.
I would love to hear what this room must have sounded like without headphones. A bunch of people quietly listening to a funky ass drummer and horn section, with a bunch of other guys grunting and clacking around on instruments you can’t hear.
It is so marvelous to see you just listening to them, with stars in the eyes. First time I heard Snarky Puppy, I thought, it would be too hard for me to appreciate, but I couldn't stop listening. They are just magic !
I have been putting on that clip several times since I saw and heard it the first time a couple of years ago. It's so incredible and I almost react like you every time I listen to it (maybe more on the inside instead of the outside) but you are very good at showing your feelings on the outside :D *high five* I loved seeing your reaction to one of the best (if not the best) performances I've seen in my life.
What I like about this tune in their repertoire is that a different member of the band does the extended solo each time they play it; Cory Herry's turn happened to be on this live recording and it made him a well known name overnight. There are some serious musical theory vids on UA-cam regarding the tune's structure and Henry's solo. Glad you reviewed this; your reaction reminded me of mine the first time I heard it.
I revisit that performance every once in a while for a pleasing reality check. One of the best performances on youtube for sure and one of the best keyboard solos I've ever witnessed anywhere. No sample packs here, just raw indisputable talent. The more you analyze this entire performance, the more it reveals itself to be simply amazing. And hats off to you for being humble... It says a lot about you also.
This is definitely where all the cool kids hang out!! Love this... Snarky Puppy is such a great band. I got an email from TrueFire yesterday promoting their brand new Jam Band Licks course, so of course I clicked on it to check it out. What to my surprise the course is taught by none other than our very own wicked good, Mikey Palmisano!! Couldn’t have purchased it any faster. I’m still on the first lesson about the Garcia-style A to B mixolydian runs. It’s phenomenal brother!! You did an amazing job and I can’t wait to dig into it even further!! 🎸🔥
What a sober reaction. Neither too much or too little talk, and unlike many other reactions it seems you actually understand what you're listening to. Great stuff!

"One of the best musical moments I have ever witnessed in my life, hands down." Yep. Lots and lots of us had the same reaction first time we saw Cory take his solo. And it never gets old, no matter how many times you watch it. Moments of spontaneous creativity like that are something to behold.
My reaction exactly everytime I watch Lingus. Also note that the video producer Colin Benders used to be a known Dutch trumpeteer (Kyteman) and is currently mainly known as a techno composer/producer working with modular synthesizers. The recording is in his studios which used to be a well known pop venue in Utrecht (tivoli Oudegracht). Some info from a Dutchie :)
This was so fun. I really wouldn't be surprised if you'd heard him before, but I would LOVE to see you watch Jacob Collier's stuff. He's an absolute musical genius who plays just about every instrument ever made. He has many many must-sees, but his arrangement of the Flintstones theme was one of his first Grammy winners. He has bigger, more mind melting stuff (Moon River, All Night Long) but I think starting with his earlier, more pared down stuff might be nice. The guy's a real treasure, though and I'd love to overload you with other song recommendations if you like him.
I think Jacob Collier is amazing but I haven't been able to get into his produced music. I think I saw him on Tiny Desk and it was amazing and that's what I'm looking for more of.
Lingus is way above my pay grade as well, but I sit back and listen, and don't try to process what is going on, but instead appreciate their shear talent in this well scripted, and executed piece. It literally brings me joy to listen to this.
I loved the way he started the video with all the energy of get into the song and play the guitar with the song, but as the song went on he just stopped caring about the guitar and was just baffled with it, true reactions
You took the words out of my mouth. Everyone there knew they were witnessing one of the most amazing moments in music solos. Perfection! (and they make to look and sound SO easy.....beyond amazing)

People who say there isn't real music being made today don't know Snarky Puppy. You were right in saying that was one of the most incredible musical moments to be caught on tape.
You gotta be kidding me!!! Usually my rabbit holes start with Michael Palmisano videos. Today I find him at the bottom of the hole! Of course he made a video on this!
Keep in mind, the drummer larnel Lewis had to fill in last minute. This is essentially his first time playing these tracks with the band, he learned all the songs on this album on a 6 hour flight. He is incredible

I see they won the 2021 Grammy for best contemporary instrumental album (which i'm buying now). Not that we need to be competitive but they are top shelf for sure.
This song rocks, but there is another song on this album called 'What about me'. It's filmed in the same way and room and everything. And it's like this song crossed with Jimi Hendrix and there is another guitarist in the band called Bob Lanzetti. And he delivers one of the eeriest and most fascinating guitar solos I have seen in a while. Definitely check it out if you thought this was awesome. Edit: It also has Larnell (the drummer) give one of his most badass performances.
"it probably took them a month to write this all out" - do you realize that they put those songs together that week, and the drummer learned that song ON THE AIRPLANE over to the session? he'd never played it before on this video IIRC
Hahah, I just love the intense bass face and bass body that's induced in you during the first couple of minutes of this. There just ain't no stopping it.
Cory and Larnell were on a different plane here! Larnell, the drummer, has a YT vid listening to a song once he’s never heard before and perfectly replicating it!
I’m not saying their aliens, but... They are aliens lol. So so good. I normally don’t like this type music but how can you not love a song like this?!?
I had seen this several years ago but I have enjoyed watching the reactions of others especially musicians like yourself listening to the music, the arrangement and fantastic musicians. Thanks and continued success with your channel.
this composition sets the stage for one of the most brilliant keyboard solos we've all been blessed to enjoy. Thank you Cory Henry. This is obviously not the first time you've heard this, so it's not your first reaction. If it were, you would continue to be spellbound during the coda instead of playing along; Cory's brilliant imagination and kinetic energy doesn't let up and actually increases the musical excitement as he interacts with the horns in a magnificent display of contrapuntal ingenuity. He's a genius. Thank you for your channel!
Hey Mike. John Gomm - Passion flower has been mentioned in your comments LOADS. He lives near me in Yorkshire, England. The dude is SICK. Get your acoustic out & ENJOY. Best wishes, Dan, England.
The look on your face as you attempt to look for an opening to try and jam along is akin to watching a school playground were a child is attempting to jump rope with two friends swinging the rope and you as the jumper looking for the rhythm and never quite finding an opening to jump in. You are the best. 😂😂
I was picking up a heavy "Inca Roads" vibe in the middle section there. You've mentioned before that you don't/didn't really get Zappa but if you're digging this, I highly suggest going back and listening to "Inca Roads". To be honest, I still don't get Zappa all the time and I've been trying since '96! ua-cam.com/video/vAGVQM6IAKk/v-deo.html
Absolutely right it's the caliber of musician and composition but in a spirit of the moment style. Zappa was all classical growing up he's one of most underated genius' he adored Stravinsky. He could play almost any style he heard. Talent was so rich. Like to hear larnell play black pages: ) by zappa. Cory obviously is unique I've never seen his equal on Hammond b3 not even same stratosphere if you watch his tribute to Melvin crispell and while he's using both feet ,bass and organ, his muscle memory on dials is while playing major, minor, diminished, and even brings house down with gorgeous augmented chords. absolutely unique. Helps he learned at 2 and has never let up. Oscar Peterson, giant steps, all immaculate but his soul is like Ray he's a church goer. I would to if he was playing!!!! So much soul. Love Zappa ferocious intellect
I don’t think anybody gets Zappa lol definitely one of my favorites though. Great memories of my grandfather blasting the weirdest stuff I had ever heard growing up 😂 “girl you thought he was man but he was a muffin”

lol @ thinking he writes everything himself. where do people come up with shit like this
He didnt write Cory's Solo. Give credit where credit is due. They are all musicians. Everyone added a bit of himself to it. It isnt about one person. Music is the center here
@@Bayo106 ikr? It’s jazz. Not really how that works
I’ve spent three days now going through reactions to people seeing Cory’s solo for the first time
The look of awe never fails to appear.
I have a sneaking feeling you’ll enjoy Jacob Collier. Check him out if you already haven’t. He’s disgustingly amazing.
Kind of a tall order figuring the current circumstances but someday my frnd...
Ah yes, watermelon-ass music.
Pure culture
Allan Asante whole heartedly agree, well said!
That face when you know you have no hope of jamming along 🤣
Lmaooo
Too much funk to jam along….might as well make the stank face the whole time
every musician's reaction to cory henry's solo is just variations on the vince mcmahon gif
It's been doing exactly that for me. Thanks for articulating. You have NO idea how dark
I agree, and I’ve been steeped in it. This video gave me a mental health break for sure. It was fun to watch someone discover this tune (and video in particular) and just need out about its madness!
Thank you!!!!
The emotional rollercoaster he went on while watching this is exactly how I feel every time I watch it
THANK YOU for spending so much time on the drummer. He's far and away my favorite part of this video, and I think he gets slept on a lot in comments about it. Yes Cory Henry's solo is out of this world, but MAN THAT DRUMMER MAKES THE SONG.
IIRC Larnell Lewis (drummer) was booked last minute for this gig and learned all the tunes on the flight to record. Dudes a beast.
The way he maintains the ostinato on the bass drum consistently while going crazy with his other limbs is insane. That's incredibly tough to do.
If you like him on drums in this song, check out shofukan. Same session, but there is a drum break toward the end that I swear rips a hole in the space time continuum
That performance is one of the few things in life that still brings me joy and makes me smile.
“What about me”, from the same show is amazing. The whole show is, but what about me has the most incredible drum solo you’ll ever see.
I wrote the same thing. Totally agree. Also great guitar work.
Yeah I love that guitar solo in there
I love that performance, its amazing.
+1 for What About Me
Larnell Lewis is one of the greatest drummers of our time. Love the reaction. Subscribed
Oh wow this is tight, honestly appreciate showing such a diverse set of music, outside my usual scope but well appreciated!
Can you link some of those theory vids? I'd love to watch them.

@@SteveQuam Thanks Steve, beat me to it. A Jazz blog (Peter Martin and Adam Maness) analyzed it as well: ua-cam.com/video/UEErR2AxG9E/v-deo.html
love the fact you took the time for name every member of the band and show ur respect. u have a new subs here.
I already know these song but rewatching it an Cory finish his solo, everyone cheering... i literally cried in enjoyment.
🎸🔥
Sweet. Thanks Dale
What a sober reaction. Neither too much or too little talk, and unlike many other reactions it seems you actually understand what you're listening to. Great stuff!
The version of "Binky" they do on the Dunlop Sessions is also next level even for them. Crazy!
And that crazy flugelhorn solo with distortion and wah wah
Yes!
The sheer authentic awe that I've just witnessed just made me appreciate the original 10x more. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for loving and appreciating music the way you do. Subscribed.
The former director of education at where i did my music degree, atar, is friends with the pups.
This is not the usual drummer... he learned these songs by listening on the flight to the session from canada. 😱😱😱🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I cant believe what kind of Monsters are snarkys?
"One of the best musical moments I have ever witnessed in my life, hands down." Yep. Lots and lots of us had the same reaction first time we saw Cory take his solo. And it never gets old, no matter how many times you watch it. Moments of spontaneous creativity like that are something to behold.
Hooray, another excuse for me to rewatch the lingus video
YES PLEASE CHECK OUT JACOB
I think Jacob Collier is amazing but I haven't been able to get into his produced music. I think I saw him on Tiny Desk and it was amazing and that's what I'm looking for more of.
Jacob ALSO plays Lingus with Snarky Puppy and absolutely crushes the solo that Cory Henry absolutely crushes in this
Not to forget that Jacob and snarky puppy made a colab in family dinner :)
@@goodgodmode Wait, what, how did I not know this?! 😁 Thanks for the recommendation, I have to search for it now. 🙏
The drummer is Larnel Lewis, his kit control is absolutely monstrous.
I love how he's like trying to play along and figure it out, then Corey starts and he just stops and enjoys the show
Lingus is way above my pay grade as well, but I sit back and listen, and don't try to process what is going on, but instead appreciate their shear talent in this well scripted, and executed piece. It literally brings me joy to listen to this.
"this is way beyond my paygrade"...Homie, you didn't even get to the serious part yet!!!
I loved the way he started the video with all the energy of get into the song and play the guitar with the song, but as the song went on he just stopped caring about the guitar and was just baffled with it, true reactions
It's cool how your face matches the interest curve of The Solo perfectly.
You took the words out of my mouth. Everyone there knew they were witnessing one of the most amazing moments in music solos. Perfection! (and they make to look and sound SO easy.....beyond amazing)
When you watch Snarky Puppy for the first time, you just sit down, do your best stanky faces and hold your jaw from breaking the floor
I love vicariously discovering this track through you again. Thank you.
I don't listen to the original video anymore because this reaction video is so much more entertaining. His face when cory firsts starts playing the otherworldy chords is priceless and exactly the correct emotion.
“Best musical moment i have ever seen in my life - hands down” ive Seen Buddy Rich live, weather report, Chick Corea and i have to agree. Must have watched/listened to Lingus more than 50 times now and i seem to achieve the same state of joy every time! 👏👏 Im still totally shook 👍
Lol
"This probably took like a month to arrange and rehearse"
That caused a giggle
People who say there isn't real music being made today don't know Snarky Puppy. You were right in saying that was one of the most incredible musical moments to be caught on tape.
You know Michael likes the groove when he starts to gyrate 😂
You gotta be kidding me!!! Usually my rabbit holes start with Michael Palmisano videos. Today I find him at the bottom of the hole!
Of course he made a video on this!
Keep in mind, the drummer larnel Lewis had to fill in last minute. This is essentially his first time playing these tracks with the band, he learned all the songs on this album on a 6 hour flight. He is incredible
Tears come to my eyes ever time I listen again thé Snarky Puppy Lingus Performance. I feel continuously the emotion and you bro send us all thé emotion you feel also. Thanks for your sincerity
"George Duke Trio "It's On" Live at Java Jazz Festival 2010" This masterpiece blow my mind such as Lingus did.
Yes sir!
I love watching every reaction vid to Lingus just to see the reaction to Cory Henry. Love it!
I see they won the 2021 Grammy for best contemporary instrumental album (which i'm buying now). Not that we need to be competitive but they are top shelf for sure.
Hands down best musical moment indeed. There has been and never will be another moment quite like what was captured here.
11:12 - the moment when he's like..."I'm turning my volume off because Cory has something really important to say right now."
Here to see the reaction to the keyboard solo. Larnell Lewis learned the drums to this song on the airplane flying to the gig.
I watch lingus once a month to either make my day or make me weep tears of joy
"It probably took them a month to rehearse this and get it this tight"
Larnell Lewis strolls off the plane after learning the song on the flight
DUDE. dude.. loved the vid. for real im so ready to watch your vids and become a part of this community
"it probably took them a month to write this all out" - do you realize that they put those songs together that week, and the drummer learned that song ON THE AIRPLANE over to the session? he'd never played it before on this video IIRC
The whole album written in four days...
Hahah, I just love the intense bass face and bass body that's induced in you during the first couple of minutes of this. There just ain't no stopping it.
Larnell Lewis is a freaking beasts. Whats more impressive is that he learned most of the music on the 7 hour flight to the recording set!
This is one of my favorite videos you’ve made so far!! Thank you!!
Thanks Andy! One of my fav's to do!
It's like he wants to fly off his Chair the whole time😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Cory and Larnell were on a different plane here! Larnell, the drummer, has a YT vid listening to a song once he’s never heard before and perfectly replicating it!
The entire "We like it here" is a killer. Spine chill all over.
Real music is the one from the heart i always say. Genuine, mysterious, unexplanable. Leaves you wondering. Thanks for showing this Senior Guitarist.
"Maybe they're all unicorns, idk"
Yes, yes they are 😐😅
Yup.
I’m not saying their aliens, but... They are aliens lol. So so good. I normally don’t like this type music but how can you not love a song like this?!?
I just can’t even comprehend that keys solo. What a musical genius Cory is.
You gotta do a reaction to Larnel Lewis's Zildjian Live performance. His drumming is so good.
I had seen this several years ago but I have enjoyed watching the reactions of others especially musicians like yourself listening to the music, the arrangement and fantastic musicians. Thanks and continued success with your channel.
Corey Henry is the best! His album with The Funk Apostles - Art of Love, is amazing too! YOU NEED TO DO A GOV'T MULE VIDEO!!!!!
I got to meet Cory and Sharay Reed after a show a while back, that band is unreal.
this composition sets the stage for one of the most brilliant keyboard solos we've all been blessed to enjoy.
Love the channel. If you’re into face-melting solos, The Main Squeeze’s “Have a Cigar” cover of Pink Floyd is absolutely insane.
ua-cam.com/video/8R6StQfLNbw/v-deo.html
Can't stress this one enough. Happy to see someone else posting this!
I suggested it also. Max is a beast.
I’ve watched this thing a hundred times and I’m still blown away with every listen.
Snarky Puppy is the kind of band where as good as you think everyone is, they're better.
seeing more people react to Lingus for the first time always makes my day a little more brighter
Lolll you’re right
I was picking up a heavy "Inca Roads" vibe in the middle section there.
A little "Inca Roads", a little Miles Davis' "In A Silent Way" vibes, especially in the beginning of the keys solo
I don’t think anybody gets Zappa lol definitely one of my favorites though. Great memories of my grandfather blasting the weirdest stuff I had ever heard growing up 😂 “girl you thought he was man but he was a muffin”
That is because of how dope George Duke was when we he played with Frank. :)
Your thoughts put into words exactly what I was thinking when I first saw this video!!! Just nuts goodness
