They key solo is so sick. I love this tune. It gives me chills. They keyboardist is a genius in my book. Sickest inversions every and on two keyboards. Just incredible.
Your reaction to this epic piece is the best I’ve seen on UA-cam. Palmisano’s was great but you were in a groove of awestruck joy. This group is just beyond anything you could think of to describe how tight and groovy they are. Please react to more Snarky Puppy. The Family Dinner sessions Vol 1 and 2 are awesome. They are joined by vocal artists and rearrange songs in their catalogue and perform them live. Or any of the songs with Jacob Collier.
They are the closest thing to the arrangements and play by Zappa, Return to Forever, and King Crimson. All would have these insane jam sessions and would land on some not out of nowhere without flaw. I think the more I understand it the more amazing it becomes. Thanks for the beauty.

My favorite moment is when Cory looks up to Michael and Larnell during the latter half of his solo and just GRINS the widest open-mouthed smile to indicate, "I'm winding it down be prepared," with such glee. The fact that less than 15 seconds later he gives Michael, "the nod," and it's immediately recognized for what it is speaks volumes to the cohesion of Snarky Puppy's members.
At the end of the song's video, I feel like I see Garrett's eyes watering up as he starts processing what he just saw. That's the exact reaction I had when I watched Lingus the first time, and still do tear up a bit when I watch this song. The power and ability of every member of Snarky Puppy just on full display is a bit of an overwhelming feeling. I also tear up a bit watching Shofukan (also from this album which was recorded live in this session)--highly recommended.
Dude every word you said I relate 100% to. I thought of the sublime as written by Emmanuel Kant, like, something beautiful, intangible and scary at the same time, I always cry a little at both those songs you mentioned bc of that feeling
5:40-5:55 That was my exact same reaction the first time I watched this and heard Cory's solo. As he stared into the void and played those chords I knew I was in for something special.

I loved watching you react to one of my favorite musical groups. It was like I was personally sharing it with you and I was so glad you liked it. Cory Henry is the man. Thanks for the video.
Cory Henry on Keys - Raised on Gospel - played before he was tall enough to get a glass of milk from the kitchen table... Snarky Puppy made a big impact in the progressive-metal scene as well - and for good reason. They're a phenomenon almost on par with Jacob Collier in the Jazz/Fusion scene.... which reminds me: Have a listen to Jacob Collier! Guy's been called "The Mozart of Jazz"... and for once I don't think that's an exaggeration... can audiate and play things like 21-over-22, can sing microtonally, plays a mean bass, mean keys and pretty tight drums (with things like 5-tuplet swing drunk feel and stuff) and has an understanding of harmony and melody I haven't encountered in anybody before. Both Herbie Hancock and Steve Vai are praising him as the wunderkind he is. For the full package - have a look at the music video to "With The Love In My Heart" :) ua-cam.com/video/IlFD298wTOM/v-deo.html
Jacob Collier is a weird one. Unbelievable technical gifts, immense talent in so many areas... and yet I haven't heard a single thing he has written or arranged that I'm at all interested in beyond the gimmick value of the "super ultra hyper mega meta lydian scales" and so on. For me at least, all of his music is just an unfortunate reminder that technicality isn't what makes a good musician, or a good songwriter.
@@yoosh9034 Mate, I just checked him out. Literally never heard of him. I get what you say, but I feel you're cutting him short. Immense talent. Quite hard to grasp musically, since he's very unorthodox. Check his NPR (found it within last hour). Blew me away. His phrasing is crisp!
yoosh if you look a bit deeper you’ll find that he’s actually an respectable lyricist and poet. Time to Rest Your Weary Head, Make Me Cry, Once You, for example
I’d say Snarky is definitely on par with Jacob Collier. They’ve done some incredible things too (like the above). And Michael League is also a genius composer. Also, I don’t know if you can really compare the two - they’re quite different.

Man this takes me back to my first listen into this song. I reacted pretty much the same way. And today, a couple of thousand times later, I still can't get enough of this mind blowing solo. Damn I love this band. Great channel btw :)
Lowkey is it possible to be a jazz drummer and avoid Lingus for five and a half years?
I disappointed myself too.
That's literally what I thought!! haha
@Tom Myers did you reply to this comment just for the boomer points?
@@garrettmillerdrums lol
I was wondering that too haha!
This made my day. I've shared that video with so many of my friends, expecting THAT reaction, and it just never happens. I need new friends.
Immediately makes the correct face while hearing Snarky Puppy! Been a fan for a bit. I continue to thank my friend that turned me on to Snarky. Plus the Family Dinner albums that expanded my library even further! And yes! No charts! Cheers man! Great video! Oh and subscribed!
We need more videos like this one!! The comments, the faces and especially the joy you had on this vid was so entertaining to watch. Much love, keep going w the yt channel!!
This video is everyone’s reaction when seeing this for the first time. Welcome to the fold my dude.
Thank you Garrett! I've never been into "this kind of music", the chaos jazz thingy. But watching you watching this opened my ears. I'm mostly a metal guy (that's how I found you) but I'm open for all kinds of music, but the closest I'm to jazz music is Jan Johansson and some small trad. jazz stuff.
Greetings from Sweden!
They key solo is so sick. I love this tune. It gives me chills. They keyboardist is a genius in my book. Sickest inversions every and on two keyboards. Just incredible.
I have watched so many of you videos and this is by far the best. Your passion for music and what you love is really shining through.
This is fucking amazing. The level of genius that is floating around in this song is incomprehensible
"Oh, this man right here... This keyboard player.... Is a fucking genius" Best quote I've seen in a very, very long time!
This live performance is rich and has been on my top 10 for 3-4 years now. This held me over in Necrophagist’s absence 🤣.
This is the first time I've watched this too and felt just as excited as you. Thank you!
Possibly the best reaction video I’ve seen to one of the best jazz recordings ever! You should do more Snarky Puppy!
I have probably watched this video 5 separate times because I enjoy it so much!
I love metal and jazz and flip-flop between the two frequently. Snarky Puppy is easily my favorite newer jazz band -- the whole album We Like It Here is incredible!! The bass player is the dude who composes everything. And he kinda looks like Lil Dicky, but I just noticed that ;)
Hahaha that's true he indeed looks like Lil Dicky!
I LOVE these guys so MUCH and THIS TUNE especially that I’m really Happy that you love them too ! I saw them live in the Olympia in Paris. Whole audience was religiously EXTATIC - we were in heaven man
An amazing composition by Michael League - Bass...watching Shaun Keys , Corey - Keys Solo & Robert - Drums and the entire Snarky Puppy ensemble kill this tune Never gets old! Glad you enjoyed it :)
hahahahaha....dude, I love your face since minute one...I've watched the "Lingus" original video 100 times, no joke, and everytime is like the first time and I always got the same face as yours...hahaha
Genius song, genius band, genius drummer, genius composer, genius soloing - damn, I'm looking forward to hear SP live next week. :D
Love seeing these guys live. Seen them many times and blows my mind every time.
One of the coolest parts about the whole We Like It Here thing is that Larnell has said in interviews that he learned that whole set on the flight to Europe to record. Truly too much talent in one room.
Glad you heard Snarky! Seen them live 6 times now! Get out there and support one of the best modern bands of our era!!!
The composer is,... the BASS PLAYER who wrote this on an airplane. An Air Lingus flight (hint).
Bro, love your channel. It is refreshing to watch some content that isn't overly produced. Just a guy sitting down and reacting to all this cool music. I am metal AF but it was AWESOME watching this video and just seeing the pure musicianship these guys have...AMAZING. Thank you for sharing. Keep up the great work and don't sell your soul to the monetization devil! lol \m/
Michael League= Composer AND bass player. My friend went to college with him
names every keyboardist other than corey henry LOL... So glad you enjoyed this. Seeing your reaction, anticipation ,everything. I still react the same way listening to this haha
Mr League conducting the band with his neck like a true badass, and what a bass line
Thank you man for choosing this song, it is outstanding and without you I would never have heard it
At the end of the song's video, I feel like I see Garrett's eyes watering up as he starts processing what he just saw.
I love Snarky Puppy so freaking much and I'm so glad you love this!!!!! Watching you freak out on this is the best!!!! (Greg)
5:40-5:55 That was my exact same reaction the first time I watched this and heard Cory's solo. As he stared into the void and played those chords I knew I was in for something special.
Dang man first time I watched that vid my mind blew. Been a while, still blown and your commentary made me giggle like a small girl.
*yells at the screen*
ITS COREY HENRY. ITS COREY FKN HENRY!
(in a small voice)
(it's cory)
Same here 😂😂
Ive watched this video about 5 times now, I love how Im hyped by seeing you hyped and listening to this band and then its like... yeah... its just awesome, we are all hyped
Made me rembember how sick that tune is. I feel like I'm rediscovering Cory's solo each time, what a magic
For the full package - have a look at the music video to "With The Love In My Heart" :)
ua-cam.com/video/IlFD298wTOM/v-deo.html
Protip : Jacob's Collier's understanding of harmony is the tree that hides the forest. The dude is a fucking god of RHYTHM.
I love your reacrions it's so much more entertaining to watch these videos with you than all alone!!! Cheers man!
That was absolutely psycho
Love the fact that you mentioned live evil as a comparison.
Too. Much. LSD.
It's hard to play when your hands are liquid.
This was wonderful. I've listened to this so many times that its hard for me to be in the moment with it anymore, except listening with someone who's hearing it for the first time brings me right back there. And yes, Cory Henry is like Jimi Hendrix and Charlie Parker had a love child and taught him keyboard.
The drummer kept the whole thing locked in, scary playing by him and the rest of the band.
That solo just blows my mind every time!! I usually don't watch react videos but it was fun to watch someone who loves this stuff as much as me
Snarky Puppy, also known as "what the North Texas jazz program guys do when they get bored playing in the One O'Clock". Cory Henry is SUCH a beast.
That drum/keyboard section was just such a joy to watch. Absolutely brilliant.
He should check out "What about me?" from the same album if he wants the full Larnell Lewis drum solo experience
Larnell for pres
Yes
Also "Outlier" :-)
GuyWhoLikesTheSnarkies14 “outlier” is one of my favorite tracks on the album. Hard to choose a favorite but that may be mine.
@@mwarn84 Seeing and listening to Larnell and Bob doing "conversation" is one of the best musical experience I've ever had in my life!😁😆
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn! Heard OF them, but haven't listened to them before. I love that I find so many good bands/drummers on this channel. Thanks Garrett!
This comment section is the one of the best place to get some spicy recommendations. Love it!
Your reaction video is what I needed just now haha. Subscribed.
Hiatus Kaiyote - Breathing Underwater , check this drummer ..
Fergus McGregor I was about to say the same
@Fergus McGregor i was gonna say the lung but yours is better lol.
R.I.P. Shaun Martin. We ALL will miss you as long as we live. Especially Cory Henry, Michael League and all of Snarky Puppy.
Just heard they learned the whole album 4 days before recording this. Marbella on drums had 2-4 hours to learn everything right before this recording in Denmark I think. INSANE!!!!!!!!!
Larnell Lewis on drums
OMGEEEE, im LOVING watching his reaction!!!! this is EXACTLY how I feel when I watch snarky puppy. I get CHILLS everytime!! and Yes he IS a genius :)
and from there it's on to Knower, either Overtime or Time Traveler (live band sesh)
HOLY SHIT!!! Never heard of them b4, but WOW. Friggin amazing. Thanks for showing this.
> Jazz drummer reacts
Doesn't mention the drums once haha
I was thinking the same thing!! I scrolled a long time looking 4 this comment! I almost stopped and wrote it myself, and then there it was 😂😂😂. I know Cory is good but the work put in on those 🥁 was nothing short of perfection. He needs to do a second vid on the same song.
Totally agree... I mean there is definitely alot to breakdown here but how do you not mention LL's drum part over Cory Henry's solo?? 16 bar phrase in kick pattern while constantly manipulating top end is INSANE!
I'm waiting for somebody to point out that the drum player learned this entire album on a f****** airplane trip to this gig.
@@richbrass12 what tha fuck!!!
@@richbrass12 yup. Got the call and was at the studio the next day, with only 7 hours to listen to the material, and only had two hours rehearsal before they started recording.
That exact face and head nod he did as soon as the drums, horns, and bass came in is what i do every time. Love it.
Check out the song Chromology by Thank You Scientist, it's amazing!
I love how right as you were like "somebody here is a composer! Somebody--" that exact somebody was on screen.
You have to watch "what about me" by Snarky Puppy, same type of vid but there is a crazy drum solo which you'd love!
I booked these guys in 2014 for a 300 cap room, they barely fit on stage.. I wish I knew how big their first time in our city was going to be, show was amazing. They went on to win a grammy that year. True talent was blown away..
Please please please do Yussef Dayes. Incredible drummer.
"Love is the message" in abbey road studio is phenomenal
@@logan1er agreed
Lol, Yup!! He's incredible live.
+1
I am amazed by the fact that your reaction to this video is just top-class entertainment for me. This is the 4th time I am here and I'll be back.
A young American jazz drummer has never heard of Snarky Puppy or Larnell Lewis. Likely story.
Nor Bob reynolds, who is another one of the biggest Jazz names in the world at the moment - yet this guy doesn't recognise him? Nor Cory Henry?
Even my brother that doesn't care about music at all knows lingus.
@@RJrules64 You're not saying he's pretending not to know the band or Lingus? Shock, Horror - where's the dislike button!!! The funniest part is when Cory Henry is just setting out on one of the all time great keyboard solos and when this guy hears the first few chords, he's like this guy's a genius. It's almost as if he knew there'd be more to follow that would confirm this statement. Wait, you mean he did know?! This man is a liar, you say?!!!
@@LisztyLiszt It was apparent he was a genius when he started pulling chord voicings out of the air, not even looking at his hands. It's in his eyes and it's's not that hard to see.
for real haha
LisztyLiszt hell no dude. The intro to the solo could be the best part. Those chromatic colors henry uses to set up the solo are easily the most “genius” part of the entire solo. Show only that part to any jazz musician who has never heard snarky puppy and they will immediately recognize how amazingly talented cory is.
Dude your reaction vids... I love em!! Being a drummer as well, I think so much like you. Lots of reaction vids honestly suck...but i love yours!
