Thanks Mr truckdriver for helping me write to you about a great man to another great man.
He is spot on with his understanding of the mind and consciousness. I haven’t found anyone who explains it better than he does. He is quite amazing in all he has done. I agree with your highlight at 30:45, Thanks for sharing this.
Highly appreciate these lectures, the perspective. After losing my spouse, I lost direction... Mostly meaning. After 4 years of mess and stupidity, treading water wasn't enough. I made rough goals, picked a direction to swim for shore. Your Utube channel has crystalized and given myself a focus these past months. I thank you for turning down the volume of suffering.

I totally agree about Dostoevesky. I read "The Brothers Karamazov" for a college class-- "Sacred Symbols and Patterns of Thought Through Time". That was something like 30 years ago, and I still think about it. Especially the chapter called "The Grand Inquisitor." So much yearning to know truth, so much confusion, complications, false ideas mixed up with true ones.

Back in late 2016 when all the fuss about Trump began, the algorithm started to show me videos about a canadian professor who spoke about truth, mithology and history, little did I know that these videos would influence my life the way that they did. I hope this video is thrown into the algorithm for another person to enjoy. We are very lucky for having JP alive talking to us.
I found him around that time too, 2015 or 2016, when he started appearing on Joe Rogan's podcast. Joe had interesting psychologists on often, but that first exposure to JP just blew me away. Then I discovered he had all these lectures of myth and Soviet ideology, two things I'm fascinated by. And then had written a book to help people with depression take back control, which I was struggling with at the time. I owe so much emotional and intellectual growth to Dr Peterson now.
@@tabucyedisamsun2425 I mean, to be fair (and a bit of a dickhead), watching lectures on UA-cam technically isn't free, as you need to pay the electricity invested into watching a UA-cam video.
I credit Dr. Peterson’s lectures in helping me write and finish my tv show pilot and script for my own graphic novel. Maps of Meaning was a life changing course!
Kinda helps with the whole memory recall thing. I can remember in my middle school years having a friend from PR named Freedom. Wasn’t his real name and he barely spoke a lick of English. We nicknamed him Frito as a result because of how he annunciated his name in his broken English dialect and accent. However, his favorite snack was chocolate peanuts. For some reason I had a sense of awe and surrealism how he was so enthralled with the excess and accessibility to his favorite treat. Which, made me aware for a moment that he probably didn’t have it as good as I did before we met.

JORDAN! I made a list of 8 things I wanted from my life after completing the future authoring program. I went from depressed, not getting out of bed for days on end, not attending classes, working awful jobs… to getting my life oriented… I am set to finish school in April, I got a job working for the government & have been working religiously on my own projects/pursuits. I’m developing a healthy relationship with another person for the first time in years. I feel calm most of the time. I repeat the trajectory of my life to myself frequently. I’ve developed a new narrative. Thank you.

I love writing. It makes my ideas real. I sit in front of my computer. dial up Google Docs and all of a sudden I'm understanding myself better 29 pages in writing a long, long letter to someone I'll probably never meet. Writing is a conversation--with myself, sure, but with someone of whom I have a model in my head. Everything I've ever written, including papers and articles and two screenplays, were addressed to an imaginary reader. It's communication.

Dr. Jordan Peterson put into words what I have recognized to be true for many years but could not articulate clearly. I am grateful for his teaching because it allows me to discuss life issues with my sons in conceptual terms rather than just anecdotal stories and my own life experiences. Thank you Dr. Peterson!
One of the greatest gifts my father gave our family besides his unconditional love was his wonderful library of great literature. Thank you dad, and thank you always JP for your never-ending unconditional inspiration.
I’m way too poor and probably way too old to go to a traditional university. I had zero desire to go after high school, 20+ years ago, and instead went straight to the work force but also went to a more affordable trade school. I’m grateful for videos such as JP’s so I can get an idea of indeed how to write my own story. Thank you, Jordan. ❤️🙏☮️

I've been a long-time follower of Dr. Peterson, but what really struck me about this video is Dr. Peterson's advocacy for the humanities. I am a student of History, and I have felt over the past several years this sense that my study, along with the rest of the sister disciplines in the humanities, have been denigrated constantly, accused of being an area of knowledge that no longer provides any sort of economic or moral value. The prevailing rhetoric now is that young people either have to get a STEM degree, or go into Trade School; there is nothing else in between that is a worthwhile effort. It seems as if there has been a moral darkening over the population, a growing fixation with what is practical and not with what is good. Yet we've seen with the handling of the pandemic that there is a need for a humanitarian education, because we are increasingly faced with the crises of unethical science and governmental policies. I hope that soon, Dr. Peterson will not have to dissuade people from studying the humanities, and that our western civilization once again rediscovers the importance of the humanities. After all, the study of the humanities was one of the only things that pulled Europe out of the Dark Ages and into the Renaissance and Age of Reason.
I’m glad I was able to meet Jordan Peterson this week. Beautiful man and I’m so grateful I was able to shake his hand. Shaking the hand of the person I most admire and look up to is something I wouldn’t be able to imagine
I am so glad to hear you say that you wrote & re-wrote your sentences over & over. That’s what I do & sometimes it takes me forever to just right a note of encouragement in a card. 😊
Just recently came across Jordan's lectures and I'm amazed by the (what I describe as) "succinct complexity" of his teachings. I'm so grateful this informative and knowledge-expanding content is available for free and publicly, and thank you Jordan for teaching in such a logical, easy-to-understand and truly inspiring way. 🌟
The best professor I had in college gave me a C on my first written assignment in his class. I am actually pretty good with words, and pretty well-read, and I was accustomed to getting high marks on everything in all my classes and here I was with a C in front of me? Well, my writing was not concise, it didn't get to the point, it had unnecessary words. It was a linguistics course, not a writing course, but Wick Miller taught me how to write. And it was the best thing I learned out of all my classes.
God bless this man 🙏🙏 Thank you so much Dr Peterson for all you do for the world. Especially in this difficult dark time in our world you are a guiding light. ❤❤
I so appreciate that Jordon Peterson cared enough to follow through thoroughly, carefully and responsibility with an open mind to make this correlation between literature, spiritually, truth and God. +E
Jordan, you are a very smart and articulate man and I appreciate that you took the time and put in the effort to produce your lectures. I have gotten a tremendous benifit in my life ,and I am here to say thank you in the most sincere way.
"Part of being a good person is to alleviate suffering." (16:52) That explains so much. It explains the polarization we see today; when we reach a conclusion about how to reduce suffering, we tend to think that others who don't see it that way are working against us. It explains the temptation we all have to dehumanize those who disagree with our own perspective on what causes suffering and how to reduce it. It explains why Dr. Peterson has often expressed frustration at people teaching a false morality; chasing after that phantom good only increases suffering, rather than decreasing it, while simultaneously helping its proponents *feel* virtuous and moral. To know how to truly reduce suffering long term, you need to know the foundational truths of existence.
Talks like these that help me put together things I've been trying to assemble myself. Connect the dots. Along w learning things I haven't even considered. I'm working w a much less informed and knowledgeable mind than him, so being able to utilize what he knows is a blessing.
Peruvian writer and Nobel Prize in Literature, Mario Vargas Llosa, wrote many years ago a book called The Truth of Lies. This lecture reminds me of that book. Regards from Chile Dr. Peterson.
I can see, old as I am, how he would have been and I hope still is, a truly inspirational lecturer. The one you REALLY wanted to be in the class of. A true, great, teacher. THESE are the people we NEED in education, at every level. I studied a crap degree - as in it was great if you wanted to be a chartered accountant. But I did something called The International Management Programme...so I had an AMAZING professor lecturing on the papers in my 4th year, to do with international management. And that experience, was the first time I ever had my mind and horizons in an intellectual sense, truly broadened.

These lectures are golden. I have very few people in my day to day, that I can reflect on any of these greater questions. Your own inner dialogue gets lonely, so I appreciate these videos very much. I hope Mr. Peterson is doing well.
Some of the best advice I've received I wont go into here but for young folks and their concentration there's a critical element that society no longer pushes. Reading not a computer screen but printed words on paper. It exercises the brain. I was given this pearl by someone who archived two masters degrees.
Thank you for this, and all your work. I’m writing two sci-fi fantasy novels right now and editing two older ones. You’ve taught me a lot. We need to get back to basic, classic storytelling that relates timeless messages of fellowship and virtue.

Peterson has changed the world - and my life - for the better. I know at the end of the day he is just a human, flawed and imperfect like all of us, and I don't agree with everything he says. Sometimes I've even gotten mad with Jordan. But that's alright, because he is authentic, and brilliant and that. His teachings have allowed me to call myself out on my own bullshit more than once, and more importantly, they've helped me find meaning after wasting so much of my existence on so many meaningless vices. You are a gift to the world Dr. Peterson, flawed, yet brilliant, vulnerable, yet brave. I wish you a long and healthy life and many more years of teachings to come.
Dr. Peterson I just want to let you know that I love you and everything you stand for. With the evil, demonic turn this society is taking, folks like you are a rare gem. Thank you so much for your knowledge and wisdom. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰🥰🥰
Thank you Mr. Peterson. You're such a breath of fresh air in this society and I really love the deep thoughts your words and perspectives stir up in my brain with your talks. I'm very grateful for you 🙏🙌🥰🫶
About halfway through a man mentions a smoking addiction and how he realised he used it as an excuse to not do certain things. That was definitely a big part of it for me. It's sad but especially after I had my child and was done breastfeeding I started again because I was around it and that made it easier to pick it back up..but many family members were only willing to watch my child when I was smoking. So I kept smoking because "why not" (and I was depressed and stressed). Until I started to realise I didn't want a smokers cough and I didn't want to spend the money...then I realized I could just say I'm smoking but choose to breathe and take a moment instead. One family member did thankfully understand and was kind to knowingly watch my child for a bit while I just had a break (without smoking). Back to being honest..I discovered who I wanted around me and my child anyway vs who I didn't. The people that were refusing to watch my kid if I wasn't smoking...all of them ended up being people that I now cut out of my life for many reasons. Just being honest about that one thing was a big hint.

Why good writing will always triumph over intersectionality: A decent story will almost always involve multiple characters, and for them to be good characters they have to be written as individuals with their own dreams, motivations, and limitations. This is quite anti-thetical to what progressives in general want: That everyone think exactly the same, have the same morals and desires. If you can swap the names of any number of characters and the story remains the same, odds are you've failed to write anything interesting; and that none of the characters written actually grows past a stereotype. If you think about it, a lot of stories and movies in the past do have 'woke' themes to them, but none of it mattered because the characters that exist are fully fleshed out; they are individuals. More modern media where the wokeness takes center stage, the characters aren't fleshed out: They become the ideology, a hollow shell that spits out talking points and is never challenged or put to the test; but rather everything they encounter simply re-affirms their position. Their dreams aren't challenged, their resolve isn't challenged, there is no self-reflection or even a hint of possibility that they could be wrong; having a personal internal obstacle is one of the most critical things for a character to develop, but woke characters are given speedbumps to run over: Not life altering dilemmas.
yep. the first thing that comes to mind is santa inc (the shit series from sarah silverman and seth rogan) and it is a prime example of wokeness destroying good storytelling and character introspection/development for the sake of pushing their message. santa (the white male character) explains to the main female character she isnt cut out to be the next santa because she is evidently bad with children. he explains this is in a completely reasonable and compassionate speech, and even offers her a job to work behind the scenes (which of course she scoffs at and brings up the "men getting credit for what women do" BS instead of just being thankful) but at the end of it, the main female character just tells him to fuck off - the character that we're supposed to root for. he of course turns out to be evil, as the writers figured that they needed a proper justification for the protag to be ungrateful, but its such a fucking mess and doesnt work at all, because she of course has to be depicted as the 'right' one. the female protagonist is complete selfish, self-centred and awful to people, but its ok because shes a woman and spouts feminist talking points. its honestly a concerning trend that ive seen in woke media, how selfish, arrogant, and self-important the characters are and how selfish their actions are, and its constantly downplayed or straight up ignored by the writers who have similiar worldviews. wandavision is another example of characters being selfish as fuck and getting away with because "her fee fees were hurt )):"
My book has 5 main female characters. All of which different in not only their looks and sexuality, but also background, political class, culture and philosophy. It's more fun when you have interesting characters in conflict with each other.
@@righteousshift482 I heard a good argument before that Dune had an effectively conservative world view at it's core, despite the fact it obviously depicted hallucinogenic drug use from first hand experience in the 60s. I don't remember the details of the argument but it seemed compelling at the time. I think was from The Distributist, who is Catholic, so that's a particular bias. I disagree with many of his thoughts, but I do seem to recall his arguments about Dune, assuming it was him, seemed fairly convincing. I think it's important to notice that conservative and liberal are not directly antonyms. These days conservatives seem to be liberals in that they are trying to conserve liberal values, and "progressives" are often trying to regress us to nonsense that previous progressives freed us from. Many folks labeled "conservatives" fight for freedoms and and many "liberals" are trying to enforce a new ridged authoritarian religion. There's many ways folks can break down what's different in the factions and mind sets. One is if humans are basically good and corrupted by culture, or if they are basically bad and need to be civilized (while admitting that culture can also become corrupt). The fact that one can question boundaries and ideas doesn't mean there aren't any they may wish to conserve. While I don't expect many lawyers to write compelling fantasy, and on big 5 personality they are low in openness but high in conscientiousness which correlatedo with conservative (even if they are fighting dirty for gun control or abortion), doesn't mean that the folks who push the boundaries of ideas are not conservative in many many ways. Everything is by degrees. For an example Christopher Hitchens pointed to a passage from the novel "A Man For All Seasons" in his speech about Free Speech. In it sir Thomas Moore is arguing with a vicious witch hunter, and he asks him: "You would break the law to punish the devil, wouldn't you?" And the guy replies: "Break it? I'd cut down every law in England if I could capture him." And Moore replies: "Yes you would wouldn't you. But when you finally corner the devil and the devil turns around to meet you, where would you flee for protection? All the laws of England having been cut down?" Note that that's basically a conservative argument. In a famous play. Being used as a good example by a "liberal." In practice it seems to me there's just an establishment tyranny that requires artists to fall I line with their agenda to be promoted and not suppressed. Apparently war and racism and sexual abuse and so on are all perfectly fine so long as it's "left" wing parties and peoples that do it.
your comment made me emotional for some reason. its so spot on. most likeable characters are actually never politically correct. this might seem like a weird tangent but: im kinda sad they didnt renew 'happy' for another season. i mean it's about an alcoholic daddy with ptsd who has an imaginary friend and a daughter he's trying to save from a pedophile ring. he also slays a lot of baddies which would technically mean he's a serial killer. but he's real, his emotions are real and his heart is in the right place. most modern shows dont seem to produce any truly likeable or memorable characters. feels more like they are pushing some kind of agenda to make people feel morally superior (or inferior). i dunno i am probably getting carried away here. much love anyway.
I don't understand why this video has low views, but the right people learn and practice before they go public are in the right place, this is how our world will get better by transforming our idea and our story and organizing it, and delivering it out perfectly.

Dr. Peterson, This was a great compilation that captures your findings on the power of writing, sorting out your past, and transcending it into a positive future. I particularly enjoyed Tim Ferriss’s point on how Viktor Frankl’s motivation to make it out of the concentration camps was to finish his book. I can’t divorce the connection between Frankl’s desire to finish that book (or his life’s work) and his aspiration and drive to return to and “finish” the life of righteous intent he had chosen for himself. He ultimately transcends the evil bestowed upon him and being the father of logotherapy and the author of Man’s Search for Meaning, I’d say he positively impacted not only his own circumstances but those of thousands of others taboot. He’s a perfect example of what you’re trying to convey here. But thank you always for your daily reminders of self-reliance and strategies for overcoming life’s inevitable suffering. You are changing so many lives for the good, just like Frankl.
Reading and writing have always been essential parts of my life from childhood but for many reasons, the writing aspect particularly, and my creative side more generally, have not been nurtured and I have allowed them to take a back seat. At 38 years old I have recently decided to quit my job and take a career break to write my first proper novel. I'm not sure why I'm posting this. I guess I'm just excited and this lecture inspired and motivated further that I am doing the right thing 😊
I think one thing that hasn’t been mentioned, is that while writing is an extremely important part of life. Our own *handwriting* is so very important in this digital age. It is a skill that has the potential to become obsolete over just a generation or two.

Indeed.
The humanities lost their prestige when they began to produce activists instead of thinkers.

"Part of being a good person is to alleviate suffering." (16:52)
That explains so much.

I've cut off my entire family so I understand this

@@user-bs1ky4uy3s WARNING SCAM alert. Please note this is not Jordan Peterson but a scam.
All the laws of England having been cut down?"
Note that that's basically a conservative argument. In a famous play. Being used as a good example by a "liberal."
In practice it seems to me there's just an establishment tyranny that requires artists to fall I line with their agenda to be promoted and not suppressed.

I am doing a whole lot better and have healthy relationships with my family and colleagues.
The best I have ever been since 17, thank you JBP.
I love watching these lectures, they are helping me improve my further education in my 40's as I proceed in my further education and career. Reading and also watching and listening helps your progression. Never too old to learn.
Dr. Peterson,
This was a great compilation that captures your findings on the power of writing, sorting out your past, and transcending it into a positive future.
You're absolutely right, how are you doing over there hope you're having a wonderful day it's a wonderful day that the lord has made
I think one thing that hasn’t been mentioned, is that while writing is an extremely important part of life. Our own *handwriting* is so very important in this digital age. It is a skill that has the potential to become obsolete over just a generation or two.
Isnt it amazing the fact that if you change your handwriting your personality changes too? Amazing!
That’s why camping is becoming so popular with many families. I’ve been doing it for years with my family. The night sky with out light pollution changed me. I agree it’s glorious!
58:35- "You write an autobiography because you need to know who you are and where you are right now!"
"Cause how the hell are you going to plot a path to the future except you know where you are"
58:46- "And you're going to need to write about the future because you're not going to HIT SOMETHING unless you AIM at it"
"A lot of times people do not specify what they want, because they are afraid, and the reason they are afraid is because if you specify what you want, you SPECIFY YOUR CONDITIONS FOR FAILURE"
59:05- And its better to keep it foggy (or is it?!!)
59:11 "You can't hit anything you don't aim at"!!
Thank you Mr. Jordan Peterson
