In this video it was time for an oil change and a tune up in the nbs stepside slammed sierra. I generally like to change the oil in the first week I buy a truck but haven't really had time with it being daily driven by my son. I noticed that this thing was leaking oil too. We not only get the oil changed but we add some seafoam to the crank case a few hundred miles before. This really helps clean out the sludge in the engine from not being oil changed regularly. I also noticed that the plug wires were laying on the headers. I figured I would just do a whole tune up while I was here. I replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires with a way better msd wire, fuel filter and belts. This thing has had a squeak for a long time and I knew it probably needed belts. All of this tune up stuff is easy and if you own a nbs silverado or sierra it probably needs to be done. These trucks run so well but rarely get the tune up they deserve. I you are looking for a tune up how to, this is the video for you. I also recommend seafoam in the crank case until you are on a regular oil change interval. The truck definitely runs better and I bet will get better gas mileage. Hit the Comments and let me know what you think.......

I had a similar squeak on my 2006 Silverado with a 5.3 back in 2020. It turned out to be the idler pulley. I bought a new one from Napa and It completely got rid of it. Good video, got me wanting to do the sea foam on my high mileage ‘06.
Yeah I kinda thought it may have been a pulley too
Same problem on my supercharged Silverado. Just a worn out idler pulley. I also had a worn out a/c tensioner that really screamed!
Extra tension of the blower I'd imagine
AutoZone sells both pulleys and belts as a kit.
I don't buy their products
Good choice of products! I didn’t realize Seafoam does a top end spray, I use it in my fuel tank, but have never done so prior to an oil change. I have used GMs top end cleaner before and it works great! Good video!
Thank you. Gm top end cleaner is basically the same stuff
Thanks for the tip on Seafoam Intake cleaning. I was looking for another method to do solo.
Hopefully it helps
I used to use the MSD wires. But had a issue with the boots sticking to the plugs. Had to cut the boots off. I have now gone to the accel ceramic plug wires. Good luck with them though. I have shorty heads on my suburban. And long tubes going on my camaro shortly.
Interesting. I have never had that issue
Great idea using the booster line for the rpm increase. That helps when you are a one man show.
That's for sure
I think it's great you use Wix oil filters. I prefer those all around, oil, fuel, trans and air filters. I'm kinda biased based on an oil filter comparison I've done on my own.
I saved and cut away oil filters from my vehicles. I cut the tops off just under the gasket surface using a large adjustable pipe cutter with the filter in a bench vise. Took out the internal parts and filter media.
Ac Delco was the cheapest quality wise. Fram was next in quality kinda cheap.
Motorcraft 820fl-s. A high quality rebranded Purolator filter. Purolator filters were high quality as well.
Microgard, O Reilly house brand. Rebranded Purolator.
Napa filters are rebranded Wix. Same internal components.
Comparing Purolator to Wix. They seem exactly identical (possible same parent company).
I found the Purolator & Wix to be far superior due to the metal canisters around the filter media. Filter media looked better in quality as well.
Cut away a wix & wix xp. Wix xp had a slightly better perforated metal canister around the filter media. Media looked higher quality as well. Napa filters are exactly the same as Wix.
I have an 01 Yukon 5.3 & 04 Tahoe 4.8. They all take 6 quarts of oil.
I use a Wix 51522xp filter. Same diameter as the short filters but stands at about 5 1/4 inches tall. Slightly easier to remove and a little more oil capacity.
I prefer to fill the filter with oil before I spin it on. No dry start after changing the oil.
Thank you. Great information
This truck is my favorite on the channel. Really gonna be a ride with HD hood.
Almost sell time.
Those wheels are sharp
Thank you.
I’m a gumout fan myself . Scotty Kilgore put me on that lol
Never Used that so can't really speak to it.
I switched to ceramic boots. Anti seize and a little dielectric grease on the wire connections. My factory one’s literally fell apart just touching them. I’m surprised I didn’t have a misfire
Pretty common for them to fall apart
Just did the sea foam treatment on my 04 through the throttle body didn’t see any smoke or felt a difference. Will be trying through the vacuum line thanks 👍🏽
That will help
Had a similar noise after replacing both belts, replaced a tensioner as well. Turns out my water pump bearings were worn out and was causing the squeaking noise.
Yeah that is common
Travis, you got the wooden wheel cradles, you should use them on that Sierra. Safety first, last and always. Great videos, all of them especially the work on the Fbodies of which I happen to be an original owner of a 1999 SS.
They are occupied or I may have
you should get some of those spark plug heatsheild sleeve covers, they protect the plugs and give off a pretty cool look! (the good looking weaved ones)
I have those on my green truck
Great video as always! I hope this truck is a keeper!
Thank you. Doubt its a keeper though
Need that video of how to install electric fans on a 2003 gm 🙏
Already did one but another is coming
Seafoam is some great stuff! I thought it was a 4.8l.. Good video. ✌🏻
It is a 4.8. Did I say 5.3.
@@TWAMotorsports tomato tomahto same thing. Never really understood the reason for the closely related engine 🤔.✌🏻
I wish this were a 5.3
Just an FYI the 2003 last year of serviceable fuel filter is true and not. If you have a flex-fuel compatible vehicle it still comes with a serviceable fuel filter and if your vehicle isn't flex-fuel compatible, then no, it doesn't not come with a serviceable fuel filter. For example my 2004 Suburban with the 5.3L is a flex-fuel compatible vehicle and does have the serviceable replacement fuel filter, on the inside frame, right under the drivers side door.
Interesting
2006 flex fuel does not have the inline filter. I just crawled around under my driver side flex fuel 2006 Silverado crew cab & checked all along the frame rail. I looked at rock auto & they cary a serviceable fuel filter for 2004 & 2005 flex fuel trucks but nothing for ‘06:/
Big fan here 👋🏼.I really appreciate your content bro…Very informative.
Thank you. I appreciate that
Do you believe in catch cans i get them but i dont comoletely understand them
I do and it really helps keep oil out of the intake.
I have a 04 Chevy Silverado 5 speed 4.3L , can I do same thing with the sea foam through the booster line?
Yes
Thanks for replying love all you videos
You're welcome and thank you
I think these use 6 quarts if oil.
Looks like it
I am wanting to upgrade my speakers and stereo my 98 trans am. What was the speakers kit and stereo. I am like you want to keep it original as well.
I made a video
Hello Travis this is Joey from puerto Rico why don't you do videos of your obs because I have one 96 see if you a couple of videos I lean a litte mover because im a Huge fan of the twa motorsport
Not enough money or time
@@TWAMotorsports I have mine and I understand I also don't have a los of monedas so im doing mine In slow motion jajajaja thank for replying
It will happen eventually
@@TWAMotorsports it's hard because there's a los of things I want to do to it but like you said it Will come eventually
How often should you be doing the fuel filter? Mines is at 50k and it sat for 5 years before I bought it but it had no gas when I bought it. I did the full maintenance to it. It’s an 01 Silverado stepside 1500. Should I be doing the fuel filter as well?
Definitely wouldn't hurt
I try to change the fuel filter every ( 3 ) oil change, because I've been told it hurts the pump if not!!
I've changed pump ( 2 ) times 315500 miles
Probably ever 50k would be good
How about serving the transmission
Honestly at the mileage it has that would likely finish it off.
Beard is looking tight!
Lol. Thank you
How do you find clean truck? I want to have a project truck like this but idk what to look for. Does mileage matter if it’s a clean truck? What should I look for as in problems if so?
Mileage doesn't matter to me. I always look for no rust. You will chase that forever.
How does one fix e brakes not engaging at all on these trucks?
Adjust them
I don't know if I'm wright about any of this. I think my 4.8 has piston slap. Its noticeable a few seconds after I start my truck but goes away after a minuet or two. People say its harmless and its caused by the oil piston ring being gummed up. I also have valve tick but I have great oil pressure. You reckon the piston slap would go away from seafoam, It drives me crazy.
No piston slap will not go away after seafoam. Rebuild is the only way to get rid of it completely
@@TWAMotorsports ok thanks for the help
You're welcome
Seafoamed my 04 Tahoe. Still has the slap. 226k and runs great. They all slap. Also may be an exhaust leak as well. Bolt heads break off at the front & rear exhaust manifolds both sides of engine. Replacing the oil pan gasket and oil pump o ring as well soon. Oil pump o ring could be the issue as well. Flattens out over time and sucks air on initial start up.
A lot have that slap
Hey ? I’m looking into swapping the fan to electric on my Chevy obs do u have any suggestions on some electric fans
Yes. Stock 05 up with a 34" core radiator
I must have missed it. What fog lights are you using? Also, what exhaust do you have?
Both came with the truck. Harbor freight fog lights in my opinion and nasty welded on flowmasters. Both will go at some point.
@@TWAMotorsports Want something brighter and wanted some wiring to make them auto on with the 3 way switch. On/off/ and auto with the low or high. Brighter driving lights.
These aren't great in my opinion
What muffler is on this truck?
Dual flowmaster
What lug nuts are those?
Not sure. Came with the truck. I can't stand them.
Anyone having problems with sharp turns and the engine stalling
You have a bad ground around column. Its rubbing would be my guess
I don't understand what your trying to achieve by spraying it into the intake,,,those engines are MP injected,,,so there is no soot buildup on the valves as the fuel injectors spray on the back of the valves cleaning them,,,So all it's doing is burnt in the cylinder and making a lot of smoke ,,,also by putting it in the fuel tank and not immediately topping up at the pump,,,There is no mixing it with all the fuel,,,
👍 i will continue to waste my money on things you don't think work.
Saefoam is for nautical applications,,not automotive,,
Guess It doesn't work then. 👍
Next time pull out the fuel pump relay and prime the pump it won’t spray you nor leak all over you 🫡
Probably should
