Heavy duty rear door handles for future reference you can get metal door handles for the handle in between the two doors I found mine by typing in Chrome heavy duty door handles they look different but they are way more rugged because if they're metal you don't break it when you get upset you can't open the rear door and break the handle all to hell LOL

As an 06 VortecMax owner, I identify with everything in this video. Besides needing the usual ball joint, tie rod end, etc etc replacement, and one rusty brake line…it’s been a really good truck. I bought it out of Michigan and brought it home to Minnesota. But the only rust is the inner rockers. I decided rather than chase the rust, I’ll run it a little longer then swap the LQ9/4L70 into my square body project. This was highly entertaining Rich!

  • @chadfoust6942
    @chadfoust6942 6 місяців тому +12

Yes. A northern truck. The frame might rot in half and all of your brake lines and fuel lines are leaking because of the rust and all of the body has holes in it but hey, the dash looks great! Always looking on the bright side even if there is no sun

  • @edwardbaker5373

I still have 2 of these in the yard lol
I have an 06 trailblazer too
And a handful of OBS GMCs

I’ll drive my old trucks until they rust in half
And then use the 2 halves to keep the good one going

As a Californian I cannot fathom the rust. I drive a 2002 GMT800 platform truck and a 2002 F250 7.3 and both are rust free.
As a side note I am putting an excursion grill on the F250 and stumbled across one of your reviews on Amazon for a Ford Emblem, that made me chuckle.

Wheels make any vehicle look better. I’m not into the big wheels/no rubber look but any aftermarket wheels work. “Cover” the rust. And you’re golden.
I hate doing this in my more mature purist years but when I was a kid cheap car, spray paint, and used wheels and your ready for Saturday night!!

You could do some cheap and fast bodywork on the lower doors and Cab conners and spray paint with a rattle can and it will look amazing. Throw some Bondo on it sand it down and spray paint it and BAM no more rust you get the picture.

Tut, tut, tut, Rich, before putting the rocker cover, you could've rattlecan white the rust sticking past the cover.
Body colour rust attracts less attention than contrasting orange.😉
And the bonnet lip protector thingy with one side snapped, well.....trim the other side to match.
With all that done, you'll have a 5ft truck instead of a 10ft😜
    Ain't Bangernomic fun👍🏻😂

I don’t regret just getting a new truck. lol. I owned 5 of this era gm truck and while they are awesome and reliable, cheap to fix for the most part a simple. I like getting in a new truck and not having to worry about getting underneath always fixing something. That said I use my truck for my business so obviously a rust bucket is not for that. But if I needed a winter beater just to get around town this gmc you got would be my pick.

I did the exact same thing two years ago. I picked up a dirt cheap 2000 Sierra 2500 4x4 SLT(leather!) with a decent frame, new brake lines, a broken flexplate and bald tires for 1800 bucks. I live in NW Ohio, so it's a typical rusty mess with no rockers. Bonus, being an SLT, it comes factory with fender flares that I zip tied back to what remains of the fenders and bed sides. I took care of all the problems I could find, including yanking the heavy-@ss 4l80 to replace the flexplate and rear main, and found out (after I could drive it with out shaking itself apart) that the transmission was not going into lockup. Took it to my local transmission shop once I figured out it wasn't just a bad lockup solenoid, and they said the pump wasn't happy after it's broken flexplate adventure and the transmission needed a rebuild. Now I have an ugly truck with new tires, wheels, brakes, radiator, flexplate, rear main seal, oil pan seal, rebuilt front suspension, shocks, and a rebuilt 4L80e behind a 6.0 with rock solid oil pressure at 240k miles. I figured the same thing as you, once the truck rusts so bad that the fame cracks, I'll yank the driveline and stick it in something else, probably another GMT800.

Thank you for this. I had a mint 99 obs Tahoe my grandfather bought new. This summer a girl was texting and driving and didn’t yield on a green left turn. Plowed right into her. Thankfully it wasn’t head on but my front end is pooched. Only fluid I lost was battery. I’m thinking about an axle swap incase the suspension is messed up. I had bought an 03 Yukon xl from a guy from work for a grand to use as a farm truck. Now I get to freshen up the Yukon it’s pretty rusty but the frame is mint. Plus the 5.3 is dripping enough I have anti rust spray lol

With those rocker covers, if you installed them on a truck with perfect rockers, as long as you put a bead of silicone around the edges, o dirt or water will get in there.. that’s what I did with all my fender flares on my trucks and they never rotted out once.. not even surface rust

Finaly a video i can relate! 😅 i bought a 06 2500HD 6L 4L80e 4x4 just because it had a working plow on it for 1500CAD! in really similar shape. 283k kms driver seat is mint but ive inspect the frame and its just a bit too rusty for my liking so im not going to dump money into it to make it road worthy but i will 100% keep it for parts i even have a SLE so its got some nice opt into it! 😅

Steel wool on the chrome and white spray paint would really bring this to the next level and make it a 5 footer in under another hour of work.

Here in Florida, we have the opposite problem. Rust isn't an issue, but anything plastic deteriorates from the heat and UV radiation.

I put the same mirrors on my lb7 and I noticed the same issue with them, that they don’t rest in the correct place. I ended up welding a tab onto the pin that allows the mirrors to pivot. Making it to where they no longer pivoted, I figured it was a get what you pay for situation.

What a great video Rich, we get some of these in Manitoba , you took this truck from a Hell No answer to a Yes sure what time you wanna pick me up,Oh BTW thats a cool stereo you got there buddy, those 6 litres will not let you down as long as you do regular maintenance on them, I lmao the whole way through this, your sense of humour is entertaining as hell, AS Derrick would say, now ya got a goin to town rig now and the Mrs won't mind riding in it 👍

If I lived where it snowed, I would 100% have a winter beater and my nice stuff would go into hibernation. I would add a louder but not obnoxious muffler and some Amazon LED lights in the stock foglight locations to finish out your truck. Because loud exhaust and lights get you the 2nd date with chicks who like trucks like that.
