  • One white man's poetic journey to personal liberation, triggered by a single conversation with a black childhood friend. 3 poems + 3 critical distinctions will help all us reimagine racism, have courageous conversations, and come together as a society.
    Excerpt:
“Why am I so compelled to deny this, what do I have to prove?
Who am I trying to protect inside this, what do I have to lose?
Is it possible that I do have white privilege and if so then what does that even mean?
Does it mean that I’m one of the bad guys, that I’m actually on the wrong team?
Is there such a thing as a good racist? Or am I one or the other, dirty or clean?
Is it possible that I’m not consciously racist but I was produced by a racist machine?" Sean Smith is an author, actor, poet, songwriter, personal development trainer and 2013's "North America's Next Greatest Speaker." He has spoken to, consulted with, and coached thousands of people and companies across the globe about what it takes to transform behaviors, results, and culture. Sean has produced over 3,000 articles, audios, and videos on success and leadership, with over 1,000,000 views on UA-cam. Sean co-wrote, produced, and starred in a unique, spoken-word, short film, Let’s Grow, with global icon Lisa Nichols, about healing racism through courageous cultural conversations.

This is other level this... Although my ego & pride almost denied me! Thank you for sharing your hometown perspective. As one who also grew up in the Union City melting pot of folks, this resonates with me. Thanks Sean for imparting enlightenment with your perspective.

Really appreciate seeing and hearing this. I sit inside of a middle school classroom all day and the children are taught such lies it so sad and makes me cry. I hated myself growing up because i thought i was nothing and people that looked like me was worthless. Now i know better but they are still teaching this in school and its difficult to see. Thank you these conversations must be had

That was a great poem, that break up letter was brilliant. Folks should listen and consider what they believe and been miseducated about.
