How to diagnose and replace a Stator (alternator) and a regulator on an 07 Suzuki GSXR 600. This process works for any GSXR from year 2006 through 2015.
I'll be doing this once the parts get ordered. The bike didn't start up after over an hour of continuous riding. Ended up having to be towed home. A little research led me here. Thanks for the video!
Did this ever fix the problem? I have the same issue. Bike starts fine when engine is cold, but after more than a half hour of riding, it won't start up again.
@@behmer1879 did you ever figure out what your issue is mine is having kind of the same problem my bike will start up and idle fine if I slowly give it throttle it's fine but if I snap the my wrist and give it a rev it'll die
Just replaced this on my 99' 600gsxr. Both stator and rectifier. I still had issues with staying on and draining battery. so i order a new starter. Hope that will fix all power issues. Knowing its an older bike and I haven't ridden it in almost 3yrs. Figure I replace all brand new. The sad part after seeing this video (awesome vid), I wish I didn't pay a bike mechanic to do it. But now we know.
just a point to note , my bikes R&R blew a while back, after research I changed the R&R but not the stator as I give it a voltage check and everything seemed at the right voltage, as I was going over to the picos in Spain a few weeks later on a lads trip I thought it best to have a few ride outs to just get the confidence back in the bike, all still seemed well. Day of my bike trip I rode 150 miles to Portsmouth and as boarding the ferry my bike started to play up, had to bump start it, this went on through out my trip which really spoilt it as didn’t want to ride the bike too much, unlucky for 1 of the group who had a head on smash turns out to be lucky for me, as his bike was a write off so he no longer needed his battery and yes, I took the opportunity to take it as back up( which I needed to get the bike home, Just!!), I guess I’m trying to say...... don’t cut corners, always check the stator if your R&R blows, also buy OEM parts as I think a cheap R&R may of blown with the voltage not being right.. all is good now, this video was a fantastic help as I’m not in anyway mechanical so thanks 👍🏻 oh by the way my mate was ok, a night in hospital and a cast on his leg top to bottom 😂
Thanks for the insight. I've got a Triumph Tiger 800 that is making some unusual sounds from the alternator/stator area. Another video I watched explained a similar problem and was due to the stator having one of the three mounting bolts loose. Makes a bit of vibes too. Your video at least helps a guy get the confidence to start dismantling before going to the dealer for $ervice.
I appreciate the video bro. My 06 GSX-R600 also lost complete power. Didn't know what happened either cuz I replaced the batter and it still acts like it doesn't even have a battery with no juice whatsoever. I too will be replacing the stator and the rectifier with a rectifier relocation bracket
thanks brother. The dealership wanted 1200$ to fix this...im a newbie so i thought i couldnt do this... But you made it pretty simple..., im goung give it a go! Hopefullyyou answer some comments as i prob will have a few but thx
Hi, just replaced my stator. It's not necessary to drain the engine oil. I did mine without draining. I put it on rear paddock stand while doing the job. There was only residual oil. Just sharing.
GREAT VIDEO!!! I have a 07 Gsxr 600 and my bike died on me last night, and I plan on replacing my stator and my rectifier. I am not sure what the issue might be. I found out that the 30amp fuse blew, and as soon as it was replaced it blew again immediately. So if I do have a bad stator or rectifier, I will be using this video to replace them myself. thank you. you have a new sub. Salute.
This just happened to my 04 R6 was riding it home from work and the lights were dim when I started the bike then eventually shut off and I lost all power to the bike. Good video btw!
Great video, mine has just went out and was about to do it didn’t think I’ll I would need to drain the oil, thanks for the heads up it would have gotten messy.
i bought a rectifier and stator from amazon... i am selling the bike after the fix because im ready to step up. but alot of people have said the chinese ones were just as good as the oem ones
I know this is an old video but did the bike run kinda bogged down/hesitant between 1-4k rpms? But fine at 5k+ (Have the same bike) I think this is what's wrong with mine too. Then One day recently the battery died, put new one in after a ride it died pulling into my house.
How often do you change your oil I see your using 10w40 300v and I see people talking how’s it’s for track use mostly and you have to change it frequently can you give me some info Thanks
Okay man I went to check out my stator and the 3 yellow wires were ripped so I respliced them and put it back together fully charged my battery and now the motor has trouble spinning or cycling, no the starter isint hung up, (sv650) btw it’s got a rod that goes through the gear to the fly wheel and starter, it’s acting like the battery is still dead.
Oh I do have 750 Suzuki 2007 I just changed the waterpump.. and when I started it won't start no lights and ignition light off..so but when I jumba to my car the lights go on and start beautifully ..and when I took of the jumba is dead ...idk wats wrong with it
I have the same problem with my 1100 w and i could not figure it out fully charged battery, drive and start with no problem, headlight started too dim down and would not start anymore.
After unclipping the stator connection to the regulator/rectifier there are 3 (unknown size, but allen key) bolting the stator in the housing. Hope this helps. Ask more, I'm glad to help anyway possible. Good riding!
Highly recommend using gloves when you do this. Also watch Revzillas video on how to do an oil change for some good info on changing oil. Otherwise great video. Thanks.
hello I have a question a week ago they put the alternator on my 2006 gsxr 600 and today it suddenly turned off and did not start, because it is again the alternator that broke
Yes. But there is a way you can replace the stator without draining the oil. You lay the bike on the left side so the oil stays there while you work on it
I have question. I have K8 gsxr 750 and notice problem on high rpm where i get choke when bike is hot ( its cut power ) and my headlight kinda flash a bit, its hardy noticed. Can a choke at high rpm be simbols of rectifier or i need to surch for problem somewhere else?
Why did u drain the oil? My 07 zx10r I did not drain the oil. There was oil residue inside the cover but it wasn't filled with oil. Wierd if the Suzuki is filled with oil.
My bike has oil leaks on stator cover and it also have charging problem because my stator is damaged so if I change the stator those oil links will stop on a stator cover or what?
That was a quality video! Great job - really helpful. i have the same problem. Do you think its worthwhile changing the battery too? Also, besides the Stator and Rectifier, do you recommend i purchase any other parts besides the Gasket?
+James Yee and just to confirm, the gaskets required are only these 2 parts right? GASKET, CLUTCH COVER (11482-01H00) GASKET (11483-01H00) Thanks for your help :)
Should i replace the old gasket or will it work if i kept the old one ? In addition shou i replace the stator and the regulator replacing the stator would work ? Thank a lot man
great video! I hear you are supposed to put silicon where the 2 parts of the engine case meet to prevent oil leaks. You said you ran it a few hundred miles of obviously you didn't leak, but would you still recommend using silicon??? THANKS
You can technically lay the bike on the clutch side (right) and you should be able to do it. If not just drain the oil and put it back after you've finished if it's not time to replace it

Adjusted tcs and finally was sounding good pulled out of my yard it died and wont start at all now.... I was about two seconds from setting it on fire so i pushed it outside threw a bottle at it and there it sits. Your better off changing both of them cause when one goes it puts extra stress on the other and it ends up going to or you'll just be doing the same thing a month down the road
Centershare32 you are lifesaver. I loved your video and excellent HD quality. I need help with just 1 more thing!..I did everything you suggested but oil leak is a big problem for me now. I don't want to reopen it to apply gasket gel because it would cost me another 40 for oil.:( Can you please give me an easy option or solution if you have any for this problem? I just don't want to open the whole damn thing again. Thanks tons.
Kinchit Shah clean your oil catch. and reuse the oil if you don't want to buy again. or lean it over to the right and you should be able to remove without losing much oil.

This is the best video that I have seen on this issue, very well done and extremely helpful!

Hey man did exactly what you told me and saved myself 260 bucks. Thank you.
great video, I Don't have GSXR but this works the same almost for every motorcylce. thx this is helpful
Fiqrizein Thanks so much man
Centersnare32 3 years later just clutched one for me too!
Thanks bro. My bike died on me at a light last night and your video made this fix look like a breeze. Great tutorial.
Thats good i'm glad you were able to fix your bike let me know if you need more help
I'm glad it helped you!
like it died when you stop and hold the clutch ..couz my bike keep doing that ?

Some dude said you don’t have to drain the oil , if you just put it in the back stand is that true?
Thanks for the vid man. Gave me the confidence to change the stator myself!
Glad i was of help
Great video, man. I have a different bike but the info applies just the same.
Appreciate it.
After this video I now know what to do on my Zx10r 2008, thanks a lot.
Glad to help!

thankfully for this tip men,u saved me a lot of stress lol 👍🏽

Thanks for this video man You really explained everything perfectly And I did everything perfectly for my 2006 gsxr 750 thanks bro

Many thanks 👍💻
Thanks a lot bro for making this vlog. It helped me so much to change my stator on my K7. #Awesome #1Down5AllTheWayUP👊🏽✊🏽💨💯
No problem man happy it helped!
Thanks for the video! Gonna try this with my 02 sv650 should be pretty similar
Doing my 04 zx10r. Absolute nightmare. Tucked behind the starter, under the tank and the coolant housing in the way.
hope you used some blue/red locktite on those stator mounting bolts!
Thank you, your video helped me a lot.
Such a simple fix but goddamn annoying how common it is on 06-07 models, the stator will always need to be replaced way more common than other bikes
Great video very helpful thanks
Yep some great info here.. Thank you.
Nice video will do this on Saturday 😀
You should’ve sanded that gasket down, along with reapplying gasket sealer
Does the stator known issue goes all the way up to 2015 year model? I thought is was only those gsxr 2006-2009. Thanks
i bought a rectifier and stator from amazon... i am selling the bike after the fix because im ready to step up. but alot of people have said the chinese ones were just as good as the oem ones
What a great video bro.. keep making more videos like this .. I’ll subscribe for sure.. !!
Thank you so much my friend!
I love that exhaust. Wish I could find them.
can you do this without draining the oil? seems like the parts are higher than the oil pan.
I have friends who say to put gasket sealer around the gasket. It looks like its not necessary?......Did you use any gasket sealer?
Thanks for the video, I have to replace mine now.

Hello, did the regulator and the stator fail at the same time?
I have the same problem with my 1100 w and i could not figure it out fully charged battery, drive and start with no problem, headlight started too dim down and would not start anymore.
Did you need to drain the oil?
Very helpful ,good video
Do you need to unplug the battery
Is the startor the same as a starter
So I just did this and even unplugged the cables and at idle sat at 13 so battery correct?
well done m8. Really helpful .
he left out the most critical part - how to remove the stator from the housing.
After unclipping the stator connection to the regulator/rectifier there are 3 (unknown size, but allen key) bolting the stator in the housing. Hope this helps. Ask more, I'm glad to help anyway possible.
Good riding!
He says in the video to take the 4 allen bolts out 7:45
How many miles were on the bike when you had to swap out the stator? The battery didn't need to be replaced?
It was probably 15k or so miles
Just got my stator fixed best brand isn’t oem it’s ricks motorsports. Last way longer then the faulty oem.
Great informative video, one question; do you need to drain the oil to complete this job? (replacing the startor & RR), thanks in advance
Yes you need to drain the oil first. Or you can lean the bike on its left side and work on it
Great video

how long did the cheap stator last

My bike has oil leaks on stator cover and it also have charging problem because my stator is damaged so if I change the stator those oil links will stop on a stator cover or what?
What if I don't drain my oil? I know it will leak from the stator housing. But does it affect anything?
It shouldn't be too bad of a problem just top off your oil
That was a quality video! Great job - really helpful.
i have the same problem. Do you think its worthwhile changing the battery too?
Also, besides the Stator and Rectifier, do you recommend i purchase any other parts besides the Gasket?

Bery good my friend thank you

Yes
Silicon is optional typically for high temperature components
great video...cheers
+Joe GI Thank you bud!
hey man great video really helpful
My stator and rectifier fried twice in a week … I’m beginning to think it was either cheap after market parts or the harness at this point
i have a suzuki bandit 650n, and the charge generating stator burned! do you know how many turns i should make on each coil?
Hi! Just an ignorant question. Is it necessary to remove the oil to replace the stator?
You can technically lay the bike on the clutch side (right) and you should be able to do it. If not just drain the oil and put it back after you've finished if it's not time to replace it
Thanks a lot for the asnwer! You've been helpfull!
What’s tearing damper is that bro.
How did you loosen the screw under the filter, you make it seem so easy and accessible, any suggestions?
Is necessary to replace regulator at the same.time. when work on the stator
No. Refer to your service manual to test the points and use a multimeter with a diode test function. "If it aint broke dont fix it".
Usually when one goes, you have to replace the other
If I replace the stator do i need to do the regulator too
Usually if one is out, then you have to replace the other aswell
may I ask WHY this happens..? i have a gsxr600 k6 and it happened the 3rd time now in one year
I have a 2001 GSXR 1000 K1. I've been fighting with this thing for 3 months it started off with a turn signal relay because dude i got it from had the wires bare hangin in there. I ended up replacing the ignition the kill switch to start switch bypassing the kickstand sensor, new battery, replaced almost entire wire harness, then fired it up and ran out of fuel sucked crap into system, took the tank off pulled the fuel pump out cleaned it all out real well put in new fuel put it back together ran it with sea foam then it fired up but was missin and backfiring bad. Adjusted tcs and finally was sounding good pulled out of my yard it died and wont start at all now.... I was about two seconds from setting it on fire so i pushed it outside threw a bottle at it and there it sits. Every time I walk by and look at it I just want to keep the f****** thing over and go in there and fix my gotdamn Harley and say f*** Suzuki!
errrrrm beg to differ, when my 98 is off totally, i get 12,5v from the battery, when on idle i SHOULD be getting about 14v via battery volt meter check. but im still only getting 12.5v im UK btw. i should be gettin about 14v but i not, any ideas???
y u need to give it a jump everytime u started it? so battery is still low from the messed up stator ? so the problem was it ur stator or regulator?
I have a 2013 GSXR 750. My bike has sat in the garage for half of the year and I haven't started it in quite some time. I started it a couple weeks ago and the biked turned over but in idle sounded like it barely had power to continue running. Turned it off and tried to turn it back on and I just get a clicking noise. Do the screws for the cover have to be torqued ? Im wating for my parts to arrive i alredy took it apart injust have to put it back together
how do you know if it's a bad rectifier/regulator but a good stator? Or do u just switch out both??
Ryan Compton I'm trying to find this out also
If one of those is damaged, chances are it damaged the other one due to irregular voltage. There are ways to check each individually to see which is broke but i'd change both anyways.
Best to change both...so there wouldn't be any further issues
Your better off changing both of them cause when one goes it puts extra stress on the other and it ends up going to or you'll just be doing the same thing a month down the road
