What is a prime lens?

- Today I'm asking what is a prime lens? These are the advantages and disadvantages of using a prime lens which is a lens with a fixed focal length.
This has advantages and disadvantages in photography when taking a photograph. I sometimes shoot with zooms, however, a lot of the time I will shoot with prime lenses, especially when the subject is static, I take photos with two camera bodies or if I need my camera to excel in low light conditions!

Good Info Mike!, this 2 minutes video really valuable, hope you success in your work!
Great info, as always.
Thanks so much Stephen! 😁👍
I wholeheartedly agree with zooming with your legs. Using a prime encourages you to compose the shot rather than just zooming in/out. I like to think my photography improved when I switched to primes.
Excellent video as usual Mike - thanks for uploading
Most definitely and a great point! It definitely gets you thinking more about the composition.
Thanks so much, I enjoyed making this one! 😁👍
Simply put! Awesome content
Thanks very much Mathias! 😁👍
keep up the good job man! this channel will skyrocket
Thanks so much Edgar!
Just enjoying the ride and loving making these tutorials!! 😁👍
Thanks
I ordered the 24mm 1.4 FE.
Bragging rights!
Still on back ordered so I can't really brag yet lol
It’s an awesome little lens that packs a punch!
I’ve used it a couple of times...you’ll love it! 😁👍
Hello Mike :)
I have the Sony a7. Would you think is worth selling the prime 28mm F2 and buy the tamron 28 - 75 F2.8 ?
Hi Daniel,
I’ve only use the Tamron a few times, but it is an excellent lens. It would also open up the different kind of shots you could achieve so I’d say yes. You’d probably benefit more from the flexibility of the zoom over the wider aperture of the 28mm. 👍
@@mikesphotography Thank you very much , as always your advice are so nice. Glad to find your chanel .
No worries Daniel, I always try and help out whenever I can! 😁👍
Sony A6400 24mp APSC 180 flips up screen and 11fps 425 focus points and eye AF what do think of this new model
I’m thinking I’ll be buying it as soon as it’s released as a “present” for my wife! 😁👍
I wish my Sony 90mm f 2.8 was lighter Mike! It's a nice and very sharp macro lens, though!
Haha! There's always an exception to the rule!! 😆 One of my friends who shoots product photography has that one and it definitely is a fantastic lens!! I'm hopefully going to borrow it and do a video on it soon!
@@mikesphotography I'll watch out for that one - not too many detailed reviews of that lens - it is sort of a sleeper in the line up but it can also stand in as a decent portrait lens. It isn't the fastest to auto focus though.
That’s great to know. Thanks for the info! 😁👍
@@mikesphotography Hi Mike - I changed the wording of my previous comment slightly in case a reader thought that I was saying that the 90mm was a bad lens! ( it is not!) What a difference one word can make!
I got what you meant, it’s definitely not a bad lens, just underrated. 😁👍
Prime are best
Indeed...I love my primes...👍
First
Lol! 👍
