When I found out that John Patitucci switched from Ken Smith to Yamaha, I couldn't understand why he did. However, the more I listen to his JP signature, the more apparent it is to me why he did. The JP has the articulation, punch, and bite that a Smith has but has a beefier tone. I love Ken Smiths and used to have one, but the TRB6 and JP are really grabbing my ear!!! MY GOODNESS!!!
Fresh! Love to see your different basses. I have always owned fenders, going on 24 years now. For several years I played just guitar and got back into bass 3 years ago. I have a Fender Blacktop P bass. It has a jazz neck a smaller body looks like a p bass. Two humbuckers, a heavy bridge. Two volume and one tone knob. I had my guitar guy put a pull knob in place of the first volume knob. So know I can pull it and it shut's off 1 pickup of each humbucker so it becomes like a j bass. After watching your videos I love the sounds of the regular p bass! I was always a jazz bass guy but I think you have converted me! Peace, great video!
I have a Yamaha JP2. The 35 inch scale and wide string spacing is a challenge. I suspect I would like your JP1 even more because it has a 34-inch neck. The JP2 is not my main bass but I'll never let it go. Good videos, by the way. I like your attitude and you're a great player.
I have two TRB-6Ps. Fretted and Fretless. The old neck-through types. Even though I have smallish hands, I find I can handle the coffee table fretboard just fine. I love the tones and the low B is good despite only having a 34" scale. Trouble is that I can only play them sitting down these days because my back is wrecked. I may have to move them on. I always hankered after the TRB-5, never caught a deal on them when they were around.
have this same bass but not the john patitucci signature you have here, i have the Yahama trb-6 ,love the bass and those who hear it love it but when they try it out their biggest complaint is the neck being and huge surfboard ,and too wide, lolol well it does have 19mm string spacing, so you don't have to worry about playing pretty or hitting other strings etc ,lots of string space.love mine!
Brazilians bassists are some crazy cats, and they get to do some crazy ish with a 6-string! I saw the bass player for Ivan Lins get busy! It wasn't a Pattitucci, though.....! (LOL!)
I own a TRB6P from 1992 , and for recording, although its an awesome instrument, i find it unbalanced from string to string, A,D and G string always seem to hide behind the mix while B, E and C all pop over the place! Changed the pickups for Bartolinis, same issue. Looking for a TRBJP2 lately, is it way better? Is it worth the extra money? Thanks!!!
Hey bro. I just saw this vid. LOL you got it dialed in . lol funky to, I have the 5string the original TRB . it sweet. I think I put it on the tube. LOL I need a aka name for it. check it out,
Agreed. This is a hu-u-ge dropout in the YTbe world of 'helpful' music posts, i.e. awful audio. Why do it if one isn't hearing what's there to be heard & appreciated? Not as criticism, ^ ^ , but [as a former studio engineer..] your fine slapping would be more useful to players' ears if you went direct interface or pssbly a mix of that + a HQ mic, studio-vetted for bass repro. The high-end here is distorted, exaggerating the scoop effect & sullying the overall reason for the effort. That's the issue with most 6 strings. By time u get to that tiny C string there's no way they can make it have any weight in the sound. Reason I quit playing em lol

I like Yamaha because they got such a distinct sound to them ,the steely pop that comes out them is awesome
That's it! The steely tone!
Yamaha basses are awesome!!!

That bass sounds like the voice of God, and your enthusiasm for it is infectious!
O contrabaixo mais top da atualidade pra mim e o melhor é mais versátil !!!

The JPs are a phenom. Yamaha is hard to beat. Cut my teeth on a yamaha.

I agree it records incredible both models.Nathan east still uses his trb6p for all his recordings with all top tier players.
I have the same one bought it some years back! I wanted the charcoal version but the amber was the only one there. Manny's Music NYC 48 street!!

I SEE SOME OF THOSE YAMAHA TRD 6 STRINGS LOOK BIGGER THAN OTHERS. WHICH ONE ONE HAS A 34" SHORT SCALE AND WIDER NECK?
yeah baby!
Niceeeee!!!

Hey Johnny- I have one of these on the way-What strings did you use?
I have asked questions also but have never seen where he responded (but he may have)... But, on a bass he is absolutely amazing. Be well.

Highs are too thin. Musicman is The Best.

The highs sound really thin and i hear all kinds of fretboard noise or it might be your technique.. i was not feeling the low end on that bass
I have one Honestly it is weak compared at my Bongo HH6
