Hey man. You really should invest in an audio interface so we can hear what you hear, instead of playing through just an amp. The camera mic doesn't do the sound justice. You can play through your amp and an interface into a computer so we hear exactly what you hear. Also look up Reaper as a recording software. It's free for 60 days and free afterwards if you still don't want to pay for it. But it's only $60 if you want to buy it. This simple change will dramatically improve your video quality. Great job!!
I feel like it is absolutely OK what Johnny is doing here. With this simple setup you actually do hear the bass tone through an amp and a cab. No tricks are done with impulses and stuff, just the bare tone of the bass/amp/cab. Its a honest setup for a honest tone. If you want to have a recording grade tone, you should do more, as you said. But for a short review of the tone this is a setting that makes you hear the reality, the truth. And no amp simulation and a cab impulse. You forget, this is not a recording channel.
Still learning my 4 string after all these years. I picked up a Carvin 6 with 2 sopabars and a true ebony neck and it makes me play different. You know what I mean. Love it and I make myself use those extra strings. It's all about keeping it fun. Thanks for the video. Oh and isn't that enhance knob on that SWR 900 something else. Take care.
Hey Brother Great playing and great sound sound. I have the TRB 6P with a neck thru construction. Any advice on this bass? I find it difficult to get the punch I like when slapping. Especially on the B and E strings. I'm using a tapered core on the B to help improve the sustain. Any recommendations?
@@leobassii I have a TRB5 II here's how I get the best punch for slap - try raising the action a little bit (not high) but just a little higher than Johnny have his in the video. I also find I get the best result with DR strings (fat beams or high beans) size 45. 65. 85. 105. 125. I know there are many string options out there but I find I get good slap tone with the DR. boost bass and treble with mids dead center pick up blend at 1 o' clock. I find when I bring in to much of the neck pickup the slap tone is a bit flat. Also I get the best slap with my thumb hitting the string just in front of the neck pick up - not to close to the neck. Try see how it sounds.
i stopped buying basses in 1996 when i bought a brand new 1994 trb6 and i m telling you the truth. since then i rarelly play with my other basses. i've changed the frets last summer. the bass is a monster.
Every player should have Johnny’s exuberance when they play! I’d love to spend an afternoon with Johnny, for the fun of it! I think Johnny does some of the better gear reviews on bass related stuff; he really tweaks the knobs so you can get a feel for the depth and width of the bass or equipment. Some guys play licks and never adjust anything; great for demoing chops, not so much for showing what the gear can do. Johnny shows how everything really sounds and works, love it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your perceptions!
Brother Long, that is a gorgeous 6-string and watching you at work playing is awesome! I wish it were possible to still learn to play bass like that... many of the master players now teach grooves & licks on youtube or no longer have time or a desire to teach at all... finding an affordable one-on-one teacher who can teach bass and who cares if you learn is virtually non-existent now. Be well & plant the seeds of your skill in someone.
@@LONGCASTLE777 I SEE SOME OF THOSE YAMAHA TRD 6 STRINGS LOOK BIGGER THAN OTHERS. WHICH ONE ONE HAS A 34" SHORT SCALE AND WIDER NECK AND WIDER STRINGS SPACING?
Yamaha's have the most body Period. I have a TRB and I have to play with bass Off if I play on anything less than 18" speakers. Now I want a 7 string Fretless, too bad they don't make one.
That action is super low. I know it's easy to play when it's that low, but the fullness of the tone does suffer. Action doesn't need to be super high to achieve that. Medium gets the job done and you have much more headroom dynamically, tonally, and also sustain and fret clarity is better in my humble opinion. That is a great sounding bass though.
That SOUND IS SICK ,THAT'S GOTTA BE ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDS
Great sounding Bass Love Love Love the Sound great playing as always my Brother.
Thanks jhony keep on making good stuff 👍☺
That's incredible!!

I agree that the Yamaha TRB6 is a fantastic bass. I am not a six string player, but I would buy one if I could get it at a good price.

Yamaha makes excellent basses for the price point and I wouldn’t mind having a BB700 series bass.
