      Yeah im the first one to hate the netflix show but hooooly fuck that was a good reveal!!!
      This is what i want for a live action adaptation, just do the OG source material and ADD ON TOP OF IT. That to me is how you do a live action adaptation. Just do what the fans wanted NOT YOUR OWN TWIST, NOT YOUR RENDITION AND EGO. Just do what fans want and not something they didnt ask for.
      Stuff like Bumi being hurt and shit and broken IS somewhat of a good direction of good changes even if i prefer goofy and friendly Bumi. Its also good that they combined the Mechanist in Omashu too, but it made Jets part become miniscule and made it seem like its better off without him.

    They aren't making Zuko mixed up. They are showing how he was before the Agni Kai with his father, when he was a kind soul influenced by his mother. After the Agni Kai is when he became the damaged soul we all know.

      I really loved the addition of the 41st division being his crew. They're also making Ozai more nuanced, which could be good, could be bad, depending on what they do with this change, so idk yet..
      The rest of the sequences that were changed or added felt worst. Seemed like they had some left out scenes or scenes they didn't manage to reshoot too. So, Zuko and Zhao in the ship travelling "somewhere". June then captured Aang on Roku's Island, brought him from the island and back to the earth kingdom (presumably). Zuko got off their ship (which was travelling away on Zhao's order) and met up with June.. and then Zhao somehow got there and intercepted Zuko to take Aang. It feels like they wrote themselves into a corner with all the changes they made and kinda rushed through a certain sequence of events with characters teleporting from one place to another to get to the Blue Mask part. They also didn't explain why Roku of all people would steal the statue of Koh's mother.. was he trying to piss off the spirit? Makes no sense. Aang's immediate compassion and empathy towards Zuko when they capture him was also odd. Why would he think Zuko is more than this evil fire nation guy? All their interactions had been him trying to capture him and Zuko threatening to burn down villages. Zuko and Aangs conversation and Zuko opening up felt too early for his redemption too, but it is pretty good and is okay as long as they kept it there. Having this new added scene PLUS Aang asking him if they could've been friends directly after Zuko attacked him is kind of weaker. I get they wanted to keep the iconic scene of Aang telling him about Kuzon, but they should've incorporated it into their first conversation. Instead we have Zuko fainting, then waking up to talk to aang, attacks aang, then faints again, then wake up again and then attack Aang again. Kinda wacked sequence here. The blue Mask part, was pretty good though! I also like how they're portraying Zhao as a weasel who is getting drunk with power. Also like how Ozai dislikes his dishonorable behaviour. But then makes you wonder why he was promoted if Ozai dislikes him so much. Kinda weird . All in all, this is the best episode of this season this far i think.

    I like Firelord Ozai better in this. In the animated show it shows Ozai being an asshole only to Zuko and putting Azula on a pedestal. In the live action, its seemed more evened out and it looks like it actually hurt him to burn Zuko. And as fucked up as it might sound, he thinks that burning him is making him stronger. Also the scenes with Ozai and Azula makes more sense of why she mentally broke at the end of book 3. It was kind of sudden in the book but it’s giving us a bit of a build up here to her eventually breaking.

    Zuko repeats his father's words "compassion is a sign of weakness" but now that he sees the avatar , the most powerful bender showing hi compassion doesn't he see the contradiction there ? 🤷‍♀

    • @insignific_nt

      Man, your father would fight you, punish you for your compassion, mark you with pain, and a reminder for the rest of your life, then exile you to teach you the lesson of consequences for being weak, then your greatest enemy tells you about his view of compassion, that makes you relive the memories about your suffering, when you're striving for being the boy, who could regain the recognition if his father... I don't think, you would see contradiction, but it would underline te lesson, you want to learn. Even though, it becomes the first lesson Zuko's going to learn, he doesn't know it, yet. He thinks, they are on the right side, and the avatar is the enemy. He grew up in that belief. It doesn't change from a few kind words.

    This is the best one I've seen so far. Still haven't seen 7. This is the one that sealed the deal for me, that this is a welcome addition to the original, but not in any way a substitute. The additions have been brilliant, but everything that they left out is sorely missed. Having only 8 episodes was a bad, terrible, not good idea.

    Not everyone is polarized, it's just that the polarized viewers are more likely to comment about it. Don't count out those who keep their opinions to themselves. I normally fall into this category. I'm a huge fan of the orginal show, Korra, and have all the graphic novels (in hardcover😉) and I actually really like the show. I may disagree with some of the changes, but mostly understand why they did them. Other than thinking they miscast Azula and Mai (and should recast), I'm on board with this show. And my gripes don't ruin it for me altogether. I think ppl are just so quick to hate these days and those types are usually the loudest opinions on the internet that it tends to spread, like fire. Kind of like the Fire Nation itself, imposing it's view of the world on EVERYONE. So it's funny to me that these "Avatar Purists" don't see the irony there. Also, I'd like to be clear that l've heard the actors who play Azula and Mai have been receiving a ton of hate and bullying online. And while I think they were miscast, the blame goes to the casting directors and showrunners. Not the CHILD ACTORS. They should be left alone, and personally I think you'd be a sick and demented "person" for bullying a child. I'm excited for season 2, and I hope the hot-heads can mellow out in the meantime and enjoy it for what it is.

    Aang doesn't "fight back more" because he's a pacifist. Not JUST an Airbender. Aang active seeks to avoid confrontation at any cost. While Airbenders are actually taught evasion and redirection as a Martial Arts style, Aang takes it that much further by refusing conflicts. It's a very naive mindset; he just makes the immature assumption that things will just work out without him actively participating.

    • @joshiesushi
      @joshiesushi 3 місяці тому +2

      No. Actually the things I liked are the original takes and spins they added. I love the 41st division thing. What takes me out of it are the forced fan service things that kinda derails the plot. The cave of lovers was kinda shoehorned into the episode. Bumi being cynical and senile is a cool take, but then they HAD to keep the games to tell Aang to make choices, which were kind of pointless since Aang already made a declaration that he was gonna stop and help people. Jet and the freedom e fighters story line was pointless, June wasn't needed either. Hei Bei was pretty much forgotten and used a throw away plot device to get then into the spirit world and Roku was just a joke who pulled a prank on a deadly spirit. Aang is rarely seen having fun and is just referencing how he loves having fun in dialogue. Wan Shin Tong introduced here kinda ruins the potential (and essential) plot in season 2. What was the point on using HIM specifically? They could've just used the "Go Away" spirit monkey from season 1. He was just there to point Aang to the hut. They added him just to make people go "Oh my god it's that guy!", when it adds little to nothing to the story and just ruins the potential of this character for later plot points.
      My point is that if they wanted to make their own spin on the story, they should stick with it. They are trying to create something new, with a new vibe, but tries to appease the fans of the cartoon. This causes contradictions and kinda ruins the story.

    One critique I do have tho, is that I feel they made Roku a bit too goofy, he always felt like sort of a Dumbledore sort of character in the animated show, wise and instructive. The only joke I can recall him making in the animated show in season 1 would be the "What took you so long" line. Though then again that's just a small gripe, I just hope Roku is more prominent in the latter seasons, since he is the main guiding avatar for Aang in the animated show.

    I'm of the opinion that the water and earth bending could be more polished. It always looks like Katara is losing more water to gravity and physics that bending it. As for the Earthbending, there always seems to be like minute rocks and dust particles floating around all the time. It's not necessarily a complaint, because it does look good on camera, just an aesthetic that I notice. Also Katara's hair loops could do with more slack and hang a bit lower. But again it's not a show breaker. I rather enjoyed this show. Here's hoping Netflix doesn't cancel it for no "good" reason, like the did with "The Brothers Sun". I mean that was apparently very successful even by Netflix standards and it was still cancelled. Just like when they cancelled Warrior Nun. It wasn't a loss to their studio they just cancelled it.

    Those of us in the middle ground are the least vocal but it's likely there's a lot of us. The show did throw me for a loop on first watch, its just hard to not separate the original from the new adaptation. I probably came out of the finale feeling like it was a 6/10 on first watch. But after watching multiple reaction channels going through it (thus giving me a 2nd, 3rd, 4th watch of some scenes) it just makes all of the GOOD changes and adaptation choices really stand out as excellent ... and it makes the "bad" decisions really seem not all that bad, perhaps disappointing or even with potential for course correction in the second season ... but overall being far outweighed by the good changes. I think my final score for the show in the end is like either 7.5 or 8 and ya know what, that's actually just fine. Sure we'd love a 10, but an 8 is nothing to scoff at.

    1:27 I've been a fan since I was a kid, and I think the live action series is GOOD! People just need to keep their expectations in check. Even the live action One-Piece changed things. Some would say even more than Avatar did, and it was mostly universally loved. People who say it's hot garbage or worse than the live action movie. Are either stuck deep in their nostalgia and won't budge unless it's a 1 for 1 copy. Or are just being trolls or hopping on the hate wagon cause it's seems to be the cool thing to do.

      Aang's reasoning or not learning is that he is only used to Gyatso teaching him. Kinda weak tbf. He might as well learn from the scrolls. He even commended Katara for inventing her own stuff, saying it's a mark of a true master. Learning on your own is a completely normal thing to do.

    Is the series perfect? No. Is it bad? Not at all. But we also have to remember, these writers aren't just creating a show for the fans, they are trying to bring in new viewers that never seen the show and likely won't be going to, so certain aspects must be changed to appeal to the masses.
    We have all these other properties like Batman getting multiple adaptations in all types of media, but there's always aspects that remain the same. Yes, this show is not a one for one adaptation, but (no pun intended) elements of the characters and stories are there.

    The show is not good but not bad. Uncle iroh seems like he’s performing every line he has he’s not laid back and go with the flow and wise also the acting is bad and that’s mostly the directors fault like Holden said. I am a die hard fan and watched since I was a kid and this show just wasn’t it. It’s the fact that you guys keep trying to defend it it’s OKAY to say you don’t like it you guys keep saying “eh some of this isn’t good, some of that isn’t good, this is okay but I don’t like this” that means it’s not good! If you’re not afraid to tell people you liked a show don’t be afraid to tell people you didn’t like a show! Same energy! Like I said this show isn’t bad but it isn’t good. I liked the fight scenes and martial arts and stuff but overall mixing 3-4 episodes into one episode just isn’t the move. I feel a lot of major companies like Netflix do this they never take their time on shows and take years they need to start production two years prior then quickly shoot edit and release the 8 episode project and it just was very rushed and I did not like it. There’s this dude on UA-cam who did an unbiased analysis and it’s very well put together if you guys keep trying to defend the show knowing it’s not the best this will give you the goods of it and bad

Only thing that I was mad about was changing the story between Katara and Pakku and throwing all that charckter development out of the show. The writting overall just isnt good aside from the 41. plottwist and Lutens funeral. THOSE were the highlights of the netflix show and I loved them

    The complaints about the outfits are that they should be dirtier and worn in in a live action setting. It makes perfect sense that the animators wouldn't waste time drawing these pointless details on everyones clothes, but the perfectly clean clothes are too similar to the animated show. Real life has dirt and mud and scorch marks.

    Hi holden, I've been watching your videos on Christianity upon the MCU and other movies and speak out on your views on God and your belief's. I would like to write my own personal views and see what you think as I like speaking to Christians about this and that I worked with one before and talking to him about it was really fun and interesting.
    A person who don't fully believe in God, I do believe in Thanos's views on salvation. I believe for our race to survive, we need to cut our population down by three-quarters at least. As the world isn't going to get any bigger or the famous saying being the world is getting smaller, but really there's not enough in the world and it's affecting Mother natures health like global warming. If we had the technology to transport most of the human race then that would be preferable, but unfortunately we don't have that technology and if we don't do something quick, we will be into a mass extinction regardless. Like Stephan Hawking's once said (despite all the wrong doings he has made), the end of our race will be our own doing, being there is too many people living on this world for this world to be sustainable. Unfortunately, the world is slowly eroding and with the population increasing at a fast rate, we won't be able to save our world in time. Even the world leaders knows this.
    Talking about my opinion on God. I'm open minded on Christianity, but I don't know if we have a creator. I believe back in those times, we were small minded when questioning the big questions of life and to fill in those gaps, we created the illusion of God so we wont panic in trying to find the answers another way, until now. I believe Jesus was real but maybe he was a magician who plays magic acts to make a living. I believe that in doing those magic acts, the people believe it to be real magic as they couldn't find out how he done it, but in today's world, we know how magic tricks work and anyone in the world can learn it. To create the concept of God to grow an influence on small minded people. And throughout history we continue to believe it. I believe the reason why all the other religions were almost beaten by Christianity was not just because we forced the minds of other cultures to believe in God but the simplicity of God only being one man, while other religions mentions more than one god. I don't fully believe in God as my opinion is a theory, it's not fact, but hopefully I'm proven wrong in my next life, if there is a next life, as our souls can't live forever as there must be an end. But I do believe in God's teachings as they are common sense and I like to call it a gentleman/woman complex of being a good person which all people should be to a certain extent.
    I hope you're reading this and that I like to hear your views. Keep up with the good work

    • @Andrew-Bastin
      @Andrew-Bastin 3 місяці тому +1

      @@joshiesushi I wouldn’t say he had the upper hand, Ozai playing around just gave him an opening which if he had capitalised on would’ve just amounted to a lucky shot, which probably wouldn’t have made much of a difference anyway.

    • @joshiesushi
      @joshiesushi 3 місяці тому

      @@Andrew-Bastin I can see what you mean. I can go with it. I just think Ozai's cockiness is not unwarranted. I believe the creators themselves said Ozai was the most powerful fire bender of that time. So even if he was "playing around" and not taking Zuko seriously, I still think Zuko would not be able to take a "lucky shot". But if they're going with a more grounded Ozai I'm fine with that. They just better stick with it. Changing the characters is fine, but they gotta be consistent.
