Man, when is Natalia going to pull her weight on this channel. 2 strikes against her now. She's on her final warning 😄
OMG did you first your own video? Natalie you are the most lovable kind of dork. ❤️
STRANGER THINGS SEASON 4 :
Hopefully Dragon Ball Evolution is next. That is the worst one. Also Mortal Kombat Annihilation, a sequel to Mortal Kombat.
Congratulations! After suffering through this movie you are now officially a full-fledged avatar fan.
Now head on to Ba Sing Se and report to Lake Laogai for your final initiation. "... there is no live action Avatar in Ba Sing Se!" 😵💫
I always get so amazed this movie managed to take everything from the animated show and fundamentally misunderstand everything about what made it so great.
It's a piece of art, but for all the wrong reasons.
The thing is M Night Shyamalan did this film because his kids were fan of the series so I have no idea how he messed up this badly when he could literally just ask his kids whether he was doing it right or not.
@@thepanpaladin1043 are you mentally slow or something? ask kids on advice for film production????
@@qefewfwdcwdc I'm unsure as to why you've decided to insult me but yes, when children are you're target audience you need to know whether or not what you're making will actually be liked by kids and seeing as avatar was a kids show and his kids were fans he could of at the bare minimum ask if he was getting the names right or if it was funny enough or exciting enough.
@@thepanpaladin1043 kids dont care about acting perfomance or special effects and costumes. GUESS WHAT the movie is shit because of what I mentioned.
Multiple earthbenders: stomping and punching the air.
Single rock: lazily floats by
VS multiple earthbenders in the show taking out TANKS in less moves.
That never fails to make me laugh.
5 earthbenders in the show took out TANKS mind you.
As much as I hate the guy but when the NC reviewed that scene it made me laugh a bit
Was that scene in this reaction? I think i might have missed it
I think they were supposed to have made the wall that came up before that, but that just makes more issues--why was it edited so that it looks out of order? A single earthbender in the show could've done that by themselves and faster! How can Shyamalan sleep at night knowing this is his creation?!
As a kid, I remember I counted down from over 400 days for this movie. It was my first midnight premiere! I sat in that theater, so extremely excited with such high hopes. And when the movie ended, the entire theater stood up and booed. To this day, I've never experienced such unification in a crowd of strangers.
Well, if there's one surefire way to piss off everyone all at once, it's ruining something they all like. Hate! It brings us together....wait...
I don't get the hate for it personally.
@@passionsquietrageit’s pretty bad when you think about it. and pretty distasteful
@@judaihyugayour not exactly wrong…
@@passionsquietrage Even as just a movie on it's own, it's poorly acted, poorly written, poorly paced, and riddled with plot holes. The fact that Earthbender prison is in a place surrounded by earth alone is just the tip of the shitty iceberg. That it's meant to be an adaptation of one of the best animated series ever made only makes it worse as they failed to adapt even one character correctly. Nobody's personality is in tact and many of their defining character traits are completely abandoned.
Can we just appreciate the fact that they really found Aang, brought him back to their village, rescued him from the fire nation, and traveled with him all the way to the Southern Air Temple, all without knowing or asking him his name? How do you even carry on a conversation?
And have the audacity to mention his name in the monologue as they're flying towards the temple xD
Yeah forget that fact that the film does everything wrong to ATLA, as just a stand alone movie, it is extremely incompetent. What you pointed out is just one example
@@BobPantsSpongeSquare97 exactly and Natalie pointed out a lot of the others. From the "more Asian" way of pronouncing everything instead of using the established dialect, to the awkward dialogue delivery, the stiff acting, the bending feeling like it takes a whole kata from 12 people to move a 10 lb rock at 2 mph. I don't understand why they didn't keep bending as an extension of their limbs and have any scale or power to 99% of the attacks in the movie. They managed to get almost every character's personality wrong from Sokka and Aang's immaturity and playfulness. Iroh's jolly old man that loves tea and deals with things very passively.. They made all the characters dark and broody with no stakes and no individual personalities
"Hey, buddy, get your ass over here!"
"Yo, pa! Which way?"
"Jeez, fella, lay off with the airbending already, will ya?"
Entirely doable. If you really don't give a crap about the guy and just want to get the whole trip over with.
Who's Aang? Don't you mean "Ong?"
😉
The scene where the group of earth benders move the rock is unintentionally one of the funniest things in modern film.
If it takes that many guys doing that much kung fu to move one rock, they should have just rushed them and used their kung fu or picked up the rocks and threw them
This actually is the only part of the movie I liked, because it made me laugh rather than sigh
I never noticed that until the Nostalgia Critic did an episode on this movie, now I can never un-see it lol
actually: they didn't move nothing, someone else moved the rock lmao
Correction. They moved it into place for another dude to do an entire different subset of moves to launch it.
Every time I revisit this movie I just gain more respect for whoever cut and edited the trailer, cause somehow they made it actually look decent
The studio is not the one that creates the trailer. Usually, the hire other company to make it.
I remember the Aang fire candle scence from the trailer. Was the coolest scene. AND its not even in the movie. lol
@@johntravis8894 dude! I know!
It actually was a decent movie though.
@@passionsquietrage Did you watch the series?
Every single moment in this movie fails to land. It's... almost impressive.
Yeah, even going into it knowing it's going to be horrible does not prepare you for exactly how horrible it is. This was a professional, high-budget movie written, directed and produced by a professional of some renown, and based on a phenomenal animated series. How is it possible for it to be this bad in every single way? It boggles the mind. Granted, I think Shyamalan is overrated, and that most of his stuff is pretty lame, but this was so much worse. To call this a dumpster fire is to unfairly malign burning garbage.

When Zuko said “for a moment I had my honor back.” It really reminded me of the play from the cartoon show with the island actors. “What’s that over there? I think it’s your honor.”-Azula😂
It still amazes me that the Ember Island Players was a much better adaptation of the show than this movie. This movie is such a bad adaptation it can't even pass as an adaption to the Ember Island Players episode 🤣
@@santosic The effects weren't even decent.
🔥🔥🔥"HONOR!!!!"🔥🔥🔥
@@santosic yeah i agree i guess the ember island players is better than live action version
The Ember Island Players episode was actually making fun of this movie as well as being a nice recap before the finale
This entire movie was like watching a twisted version of the play in The Ember Island Players.
And just a fun fact, there's a clip where Shyamalan was asked what went wrong with the movie. He said,"I really don't know. I thought it was wonderful."
Not kidding.
How does someone manage to direct Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, and then think this is fine? I get not being good at some genres, but this movie has some problems of just basic competence.
At least The Ember Island Players was entertaining
I don't seem to get the idea that someone who has made so many good movies, and a few absolutely great ones, can see this as a great movie. It was so clunky, nothing fit together, basic stuff that any passable editor and director can avoid. Maybe if they had made the soundtrack to fill in those gaps with emotional music, it might have helped, but the pauses were just there for no reason.
Ember*
Stop insulting ember island players
I'll never forget seeing this movie in the theater. After LITERALLY the very first line of dialog, my husband and I just both looked at each other, horrified, and asked "Do you want to leave?" But we decided to stay, lol.
i watched it with a friend in the theater to help her out of a bad time....... well, we both remember the experience thats for sure
My favorite fan theory is that this movie is actually a live-action adaptation of the Ember Island Players episode and that is all.
My friends and I did a double feature with Toy Story 3. That movie was great and made me cry. And I turned to my friends, none of whom were Avatar fans, and said “yeah that was great but this will be better.” Never been more wrong in my life
@@gutscross9706 I'm guessing her bad time became worse after watching the movie?
I was pissed after the first line but petty because I paid for the tickets.
She has finally gone through the rite of passage of all fans and it was gloriously enjoyable to watch
It's necessary rite of passage in order to truly appreciate just how amazing the show is; every second of this movie makes you wish you were watching the animated version instead.
Jeebus. I haven't watched it yet. I plan to, but now right now lol.
23:13 That super-awkward "Yes." was the moment that I walked out of the theater. I've walked out of a movie maybe twice in my life. I just couldn't take it anymore. I had reached my limit and I was just done.
The worst part though was that I was with a group of friends. But I was so disgusted as a fan that I didn't even say anything to anyone. They thought I had just gone to the bathroom, but I never came back XD (I apologized to them the next day though)
What was the other movie you walked out?
@@EuQueroMeDrogar497 I don't remember clearly. I just seem to recall doing it once before that. Though I might just be thinking of seeing Jurassic Park in theaters when I was 10 years old. It was too scary for me XD. Though my mom was with me, which meant that she had to walk out too lol.
@@serelryk5365 lol thanks
You made it that far...wow
That's what made you walk out? I didn't see this in theater but Nickelodeon aired it...a lot and I stopped watching the minute White-Katara said "Ah-vatar" instead of how the hell it's supposed to be said -_-
People usually mention that it's a relief they didn't do book 2 because they would've also ruined Toph, but could you imagine what would happen if they tried to recreate the Leaves from The Vine moment???
Oh dear lord no. *insert please god no moment from The Office here*
With all respect, are you kidding? Leaves from the vine is character development, an emotional scene with nuance and pathos. Shamylan would have left it to die on the cutting room floor, if he bothered with it at all.
@@dubyadrake You're totally right. If people asked him why it wasn't on the "book 2 movie", he would probably not even know what people are talking about
I doubt anything from Tales of Ba Sing Se would've made it into the second movie. That whole episode would have been skipped. No cool fight scenes to butcher with mediocre special effects.
i dont think they could continue the movies because of the change they made to fire bending. it breaks the story.
It's actually impressive how this movie is all exposition yet leaves everyone more confused
My main issue with the movie is the bending. In the animated show the elements moved with the person. Every movement seemed to have a purpose and the elements responded to it. Like you could see the cause and effect. In the movie they just pull off a dance routine then the element does its thing. Not only does it make the fights ridiculously slow paced but it just looks comical.
My fav bending moments:
-Katara and Aang (Ohng) clearly supposed to be water bending in the North Pole, but they never actually move a single bit of water so they’re just waving their arms about in silence
-6 earthbenders doing a synchronised attack only for a single rock to slowly move across the screen
-‘HES BURNING HIS OWN CHI!’
THAT'S the main issue?
@@brandonwei2430 Exciting fight sequences can make even the worst crap enjoyable. So yeah.
I would say the main issue is the dialogue for me. But ya, the fight scenes are equally as important as the dialogue in Avatar so I get where you’re coming from
The most enjoyment I can get from this movie is when I can show it to other fans of the show and watch them quickly get that “what the hell am I watching?” face.
Every fan of the original show has to watch this trainwreck at some point, it's like a rite of passage so we can all share in the disappointment

For Iroh, who has been to the spirit world, to say "wow to meet a spirit would be a great honor," it hurts
Maybe Iroh hadn't yet been to the spirit world.
@@passionsquietrageyeah wait a minute since when did Iroh visit the spirit world before the end of Atla?
@@lordmonocr6206 I don't know, I was just making a suggestion. Perhaps in the movie's timeline, he hadn't been to the spirit world yet.

@@lordmonocr6206 When his son Lu Ten died he goes to the spirit world to find a way to get him back, instead he comes back healed from his trauma, a changed man, which is what everyone means when they say “he had a complicated past”
Iroh wasn’t always the tea loving zen dude we know in the show.
He was once a formidable general of the fire nation, like a smart Zhao. He found his compassion after going to the spirit world and connecting with the spirits, which is why he could see Aang on Rokus dragon during the Hei Bai episode, and notice Yue was touched by the moon spirit. Irohs history is very interesting
The only joy I get from this film is watching others suffer the same way that I did 😂
I remember as a kid I was so hyped for this movie. My dad was open to taking me to see it cause he knew how excited I was. Even spent the money to get us 4D tickets which was a new idea at the time. btw, in 4D during scenes with water, literally felt like they were spraying the back of your leg with windex. Starting off with the names I was upset but thought “eh, things could be worse”. Oh boy was I right. My favorite show of all time subjugated to this. It was so clear nobody involved ever saw the show. It was the one and only time I watched the full movie and never will I again. Let’s pray these coming up ATLA projects, live action and animated, are not like this. Thankfully they have the og creators behind them tho.
I watched this whole series with my son, enjoyed it and we went to see it on opening day. I'm right there with you.

same my sister and i convinced my stepdad to take us opening day. After the movie we walk out and he's like "that was kinda good". we were both so mad we didn't talk on the way home.
My favorite thing about reactors new to Avatar: The Last Airbender is watching their surprise at just how wonderful a show it is, and fall in love with it.
My second most favorite thing is the evil glee at ‘how bad could the movie be?’ and watching them find out
Calm down, Satan...
The thing I always say when thinking about how this movie is rated is to try to imagine what it was like going to this movie opening day back in 2010.
All of my nerdy college friends and I went to go see this movie opening day, 20 of us in total, because we were such big fans it'd been just over two years since the release of the last episode.
Sitting there and seeing the intro bending got a rousing cheer from the audience, a packed theater...and then the narration hit. Now: no fault or hate towards the actress, and in full knowledge that the series does have Katara fully narrate an opening sequence, but how they were doing it quickly made the audience fall quiet. And from the moment we realized Sokka was going to be dour the entire movie, that's when we realized we thought we knew how bad the movie was going to be.
And we were wrong. It was so much worse.
There were the occasional chuckle or clap, but otherwise the theater was quiet with the sound of depressed boredom and disappointment.
Outside, we were immediately making Ember Island Player jokes and ripping the movie to shreds, and getting home we stayed up and watched the first 4 episodes again, to clean the slate of that movie. Over that weekend, the nerdy corners of the internet lit up with dire warnings and analysis of why the movie was so bad. It was a more enjoyable time critiquing the movie than watching it.
"but the effects were decent"
It wasn't actually that bad though, it was decent at best.
This is a great example of how actors are really just hostage to the director and editor's talent (or lack thereof), really makes you appreciate how impossibly hard film making is.
Imagine being the studio people and seeing this sh*tshow form slowly over months and months with no choice but to release it...
You're a brave soul, Natalie.
Yooo did not expect to see you guys here. Can we expect a collab in the future? 👀
The Homies, YOOOOOO!
Yow! I'm a subscriber to the both of your channels! 😁
I love how in one scene they try to keep the Firelords face hidden and be all mysterious but a couple of scenes before we saw him clear as day. They also couldn't have cast a less intimidating actor for him. Mark Hamills voice nailed it and even if he didn't look too intimidating the way his lines were delivered was just awesome.
Out of everything I regret in my life, nothing will ever compete to watching this in the midnight release in full zuko cosplay. I have have never experienced a quieter exit at an end of a film. I didn't even bother waiting for pics and stuff. Everyone just hurried out.

This movie is incredible! And by that I mean that it's incredible that somehow, they managed to get EVERY single decision wrong. You'd think that somewhere along the way they'd accidentally make a right choice but, no.
I've never understood what's so bad about the movie. The story was good, the acting was solid for the most part, and the visuals looked great. Pronunciation was the only issue I saw.
@passionsquietrage3617 acting wasn't very good lol you're crazy 😂
@@passionsquietragedid we watch the same movie? The dialogue was stilted, delivered without emotion, over expository, and just awkward and the bending scenes were slow, awkward, and poorly choreographed
@@ivybennett2274 Idk what stilted means, but I do know that not every sentence needs to be delivered with emotion. What's wrong with over expository dialogue if dialogue is a way of showing things. They had to slow down the bending scenes to make them easier to see on screen. But yes, the choreography could have been slightly better.
@@passionsquietrage the bending didn't need to be slow to see, it loses all impact and beauty from the show. And by stilted I mean that every line feels like it's being read off a teleprompter, like no one actually KNEW their lines. Someone says something, there's an awkward pause, someone says something else, there's an awkward pause. The story was all exposition and no emotion. Nobody felt anything. And no characters actually had motivation to do what they were doing. This is highschool play level acting.
And none of this touches on how much contempt it holds for the source material. Taking away every likeable characteristic from every character. Sokka isn't funny or smart, katara isn't motherly or overbearing, aang isn't playful or whimsical, zuko isn't angry or brooding, iroh isn't happy or wise.
This movie is bad writing, performed badly, then layered with bad CGI (even for the time) there's a reason almost nobody likes this movie. It takes one of the greatest stories of our generation and somehow sucks all life and love out of it
It’s almost like Shmyamlaman looked at Book 1 and thought “No way we’ll be able to fit all that in one movie! Let’s just pick about 5 episodes to build a script from.” But then they wrote the script and realized it was barely an hour, and instead of making any attempt to rewrite it they just drew out every single scene in whatever ways they could.

Fun fact, the actress for Yue in this plays Asami in Legend of Korra, and she's like my favorite LoK character lol. I think she redeemed herself
But not... Everything else
The Last Airbender was a huge thing in me house. My kids Loved it. So much so. That I, my Mom (Grandma) and even my brother (uncle) all watched with them. We watched every episode and caught up with the ones we missed. We were glued to the TV for the Finale. So Awesome.

I literally came to the comments to recommend Legend of Korra as a palate cleaner. I've been looking forward to it since she finished Avatar.
There is a single line in the entire movie that I would consider good: When Zhao gives Iroh condolences on his nephew burning to death. It is officially so formal and proper, while obviously being venomous and unneccisarily cruel, and clearly shows that he wants to taunt Iroh and is arrogant enough to think he can get away with it. It actually reveals a lot about his character, or rather, his character in the TV Show, where he actually has a character. But still, it provides some character building that just doesn't exist anywhere else.
But there's also a problem with even that. Zhao actually respects Iroh!
Zuko and Iroh were the... well not "best" but "least likely to make me kill myself" parts of this movie. The race-swapping was odd (I don't really care much in this case since it's a fictional world so fictional tribes can be whatever, but still it's just... weird), but they had some recognizable traits which is more than I can say for literally anyone else.
I feel like Ozai's comment there was so flippant. Like "your nephew burned to death...sorry...anyway...".
I've watched multiple reactions to this atrocity, but it's just now that I realised that in this film, it's Sokka who attacks the ice to release the orb with Aang in it. Rather than Katara.
Atleast there is The Legend of Korra, which i hope you get to soon!
i personally love that series so much like yes Last Airbender is iconic but i just cant describe how good korra is idc what people say its amazing

Natalie, didn't you notice in the series that fire benders always bended fire from nothing; but in this movie they need to draw the fire from a source.
The idea of Shiamalan watching Avatar and saying "yeah, I gotta fix that part. Doesn't make sense" feels so insulting.
It's not a bad idea in theory, pyro from X-Men has the same limitation, Gandalf says in the book that he can not burn snow. It was the execution. Rather than having them carry around something flammable that they can ignite, like gun powder or wood shavings or even matches, they carry around those big torches. They could have actually done something creative with that, but like everything else in this movie all that premise delivered was more mediocrity.
@@iainwhite8617 yeah, it honestly evens the playing field a bit.

In any case, they are the weakest element and the one least in need of a nerf
I think a dual watch of « Suicide Squad » and « _The_ Suicide Squad » would be a great experience. You could see how different two movies with the same base premise can be.

Catwoman also... unforgivable.
Aka a movie that was butchered by the studio vs. one that wasn’t.
Oh thats good
My favorite thing in this movie is watching the extras while the benders are winding up whatever attack they're attempting. They genuinely look like video game enemies just repeating their animation in place until the character knocks them over. 🤣
To talk about the future of this series, there are 3 animated theatrical films planned. The first one will follow Aang, Katara, Zuko and Sokka as young adults and is set to release in 2024. Netflix also has a live action TV show with a massive budget that's set to release it's first season of 8 episodes early next year. So, you might have something to react to sooner than you think :p
Netflix terrible track record with live action adaptions and the fact ATLA creators left the project because of disagreements make it so I and most people believe it's gonna be a shit show. But who knows, maybe we would be happily surprised.
@@Ash16180 They left because they got the opportunity to create Avatar Studios tbf, Netflix couldn't really compete with that offer (well, they probably could have but they probably didn't want to commit that much money to it before they had even released their first Avatar thing ^^)

This movie feels like you're sitting in a house of a random family you don't know and you're just watching them go about their boring lives but it's awkward because you know you're not even supposed to be there.
Here's my theory on M. Night: He's at his best with small casts in mundane domestic, or isolated settings. His characters are always deadpan, and in a slow-burn thriller/drama it works. The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, Split, even The Village - the characters don't know how to react to their situations, so their emotions are very restrained. That does NOT work with epic fantasy. He was about the worst choice to direct this disaster. I don't know how anyone could look at the filming dailies and think they could be salvaged. The only redeeming quality it has is the soundtrack - I have a theory that James Newton Howard was actually inspired by the show when he wrote these themes, because they are beautiful.
I gotta say I actually like the "I do too... I mean, I still do" line. Its about Aang referring to Kioshi as a distinct, separate person then realizing and rephrasing it to properly reflect his belief in reincarnation. Just a nice little touch to shed light on Aang's beliefs. Or maybe the rest of the movie made something competent seem clever.
Yeah, that's a line I could see making it into the show.
They could've made Aang say "I did...I mean, I still do" to make it seem more "yes, I should correct the way I phrased it"
The problem with that line is "I do too" is not past tense. There wasn't any reason to correct himself. If he had said "I did too" it'd be a completely different story.
I just sort of assume the kid just forgot what he was supposed to say because they were only allowed to read their scripts once and then Shamuonmylawn was like "Brilliant!" and just left it in the movie.
Iroh in the show: Whatever you do to that spirit, I will unleash upon you tenfold!!
Iroh in the movie: Zhao.. Don't
You shared your pain with us on this movie Nat 😄 Ridley's comment " I've awoken to the pitch of my people" OMG!! You guys are so good 🤣
Hadn't watched it before, will never watch it again. Thanks Nat 😂💛
Yes please never do that 🤣
You know what makes 'The Last Airbender' such a great movie!?
It's the PERFECT palet cleanser for 'The Legend of Korra'. Four seasons of Avatar greatness, with a whole new setting and characters. Just what you need after seeing this tough heap of pauses. When you've got the time Nathalie, it's worth it!
And there are still people who say Korra was the worst to ever happen to this franchise... I guess they just LITERALLY forgot about this movie?
@@Atlessa Must be, sounds like a typical case of 'There is no war in Ba Sing Se'.
Nah, I dislike Korra. Not enough growth in characters. I think it also misrepresents what the Avatar characters would have done later in life.
@@Tom_McMurtry Not enough growth? Did you only watch an episode or two? None of the characters are the same by the end of the show.
Sorry pally, but sounds like you decided going in and let that color your judgement beforehand.
@@coeusdarksoul2855 Nah I watched the whole thing. Was pretty excited for it.
Geez Natalie is so nice even when describing her idea for watching bad movies she says it so nicely and positive
This film is the embodiment of ‘we’ll fix it in post’. But forgot the crucial step of doing anything in post to actually make it worth watching.
Oh nooooo, why did you subject yourself to this abomination 😭😭
She probs got dared to watch it 🥺
Its for the culture
It's the rite of passage. It's so we as fans can hate this movie together and to learn to appreciate the original more.
It’s a right of passage for all ATLA fans. We watch it, it brings us unspeakable pain, then we deny its very existence.
I know, right! Girl respect yourself!
17:08 That fireball was moving so slowly you didn't need a wall of earth, they could've literally sidestepped it...
Theres a scene in the very beginning after the opening monologue that says it all. Its an over head shot of the snow, Katara and Sokka are walking through it. You can tell no one cared about resetting the snow to make it look fresh, like they're walking through it for the first time. I can see the exact poing the ditector said "cut! Ok, 1 more for safety"
"Katara, do not hit that sphere!" is really a memorable line.
Dang, wanted to see your reaction to the ridiculously pitiful rock chuck moment of the Earthbender scene. The one where a group of guys basically just dance and do nothing but pose and scream while another guy off camera lifts a rock in front of said camera and chucks it at someone.
Also, the way they decided to shoot the Fire Lord, feels completely backwards. His first scene is just him showing up out of nowhere yet later shots try to make him seem mysterious and imposing. Like...we already saw him just walking around like a regular guy...any mystery you try to set after that is kind of already out the window. XD
I've also heard that if you watch the movie at like 1.5 or 2 times speed it at least helps with the pacing of the fights.
Also, kind of glad you didn't point out the p*nis hair at 24:27 - 24:30. Honestly has been one of the few times I haven't seen it being pointed at. XD
I *live* for these reactions. The shellshocked surprise and disappointment brings me sick joy 😂😂
It's always so nice having 8 episodes worth of story crammed into like 80 minutes of film
21 episodes actually, lol
The last airbender is one of my favorite exercises in ego. It’s legit impossible to cram an entire 23 episode season into a 2.5 hour movie and expect it to be a decent representation of it. There’s nuance and certain levels of characterization that you can’t fit that well into a movie where stuff has to be happening all the time at a relatively fast pace. M night shamalan took it as a personal challenge to prove that this could be done and failed (predictably) spectacularly. 😂😂
WOW even watching Nat watch this movie still hurt my soul.
One of The Moments every fan of ATLA waits for when watching reactions. The joy of watching someone fall in love with the show and the joy of watching someone die a little when watching the "film"?
I love your reaction to everything. The only thing I'll mention is that when Aang switches from "I do, too," to "I still do," it's because in the first he's speaking as if he and Kiyoshi are separate people, and in the second he realizes that they are the same, so he still likes games, just as he did when he was Kiyoshi.
Not that that excuses the movie's horribly awkward dialogue in any way
I read the title and burst out laughing, this is everything I wanted. I wanna see you watch more hilariously bad movies!
It's a Joy to see Natalie, getting frustated again and again during the movie
It’s not even bad *butt that Iroh was “making fire out of nothing” 😭😭 like in the show, they already 𝒄𝒂𝒏 bend fire out of nothing. That’s part of what made them so powerful, because they didn’t need fire around them like earth benders need earth or water benders need water in order to bend. This movie was just like, “nah, I’ll make them way less intimidating” 🗿😭
The only good thing we got from this movie is that this is how the show producers found the voice actress for Asami, one of the main characters in the sequel series, Legend of Korra. She plays Princess Yue in this movie!
When this was on TV back in the day, my dad and I bonded over this show and watched it every week together. We saw this in the theater and after we came out we looked at each other and said "That was REALLY bad wasnt it??"
I hope you two still talk after that :(
Condolences for having to sit through this travesty
“Are you the AW-VUH-TAR ONNG” Lmao
I’ve heard this before, but “every Avatar fan has a right of passage with this movie” We suffer together. the movie that doesn’t exist 😅
Edit: also love your bangs ❤
There is no movie in Ba Sing Se.
Lake Laogai is a magical place. It makes all the bad things go away
One of my favorite on going jokes especially on the internet is “there is no ATLA movie in Ba Sing Se”. Me and my brother got it on DVD and started watching it and I wanted to bail on it because it was so bad but he said we needed to suffer together so we could emotionally move on. Needless to say that DVD was just a waste of money, we made a joke of putting it under his bed to be the ‘monster under the bed’.
*rite
@@christopherb501 ☝️ you got that rite
I’m sorry, but your editor is the real MVP this time 😂😂😂 these cuts have me actually bursting out loud in laughter
The effects in this movie were actually pretty well done. It’s just a shame that the story, writing, acting, directing, interpretation and choreography was awful. Feel bad for the kid playing Ong as well, he’s an actual martial artist and put a lot into it but it was TOO much movement for too little outcome.
lmaoo not "ong" 💀
And the part that kills me is that if you look at any of the behind-the-scenes footage of the kid? **He's basically Aang.** He's got the chipper, mischievous personality, the naturally smiley nature, he's basically just Aang as a real person, but NONE of that comes out in the movie.
@@ecyor0 It is a shame M. Night Shyamalan was not jailed at least six months for this criminal negligence.
@@ecyor0 that’s a directing thing
It's like, "If it weren't for the traffic jam, the mugging, the food poisoning, and the severed finger, the weather for our beach trip was perfect."
I've been waiting for this since you finished the animated series 6 months back. You can final feel the pain and commiserate with the rest of the fan base.
16:47 was literally: ma nam is ong, end am di ovoter. *Katara runs for no reason and pushes some fire solider* LEAF HEEM ALON😡
M. Night Shyamalan went full Tommy Wiseau with this movie
I don't think the Room is a good comparison. That's an ego driven pile of lunacy. The Last Airbender strikes me as someone taking on a project far beyond their means. Not just in terms of budget but also in terms of managerial and narrative scope. It reminds me more of the Amazon Wheel of Time show.
Nooooo.. The Room is a lot of things but boring is not one of them
“Kyoshi loved games.”
Awng: “I do too. I mean, I still do.”
Natalie: “Why did you have to repeat that? You didn’t say it in the past tense!😂”
I’m pretty sure, “Awng”(🤮) said “I do too” speaking from own his POV, distinguishing himself as someone different from Kyoshi who has the same thing in common. Then corrected it too “I still do,” in an attempt to speak from Kyoshi’s POV, in the sense that they are the same person as the avatar.
Basically like saying, “Oh right, technically I’m Kyoshi, so since she loved games and I currently love games, I must ‘still’ love games, even in my next life” type of thing. Like, “I, Awng, love games. I mean, I, as Kyoshi, still love games.”
Sorry if I over explained😅 Love your vids!☺️
I learned very recently that Jesse McCartney was originally cast as Zuko, before he was recast due to a massive amount of backlash. It, in fact, could have been worse.
holy shit thats the funniest thing ive ever heard.
My wife saw the movie before watching the series. She thought the movie wasn't that bad. That all changed when I showed her the series. I commend you for making it past the earth bending prison scene. That's as far as I could get without shutting it down.
Same happened to me when I read The Northern Lights book after seeing The Golden Compass.
Sow-kah is so perfectly cast. Emotionless, serious, tired and dry. Like the arh-vah-tar Arh-ng. And E-row. And Ozai. And Katara. General Zhao facing off against Ozai was pretty in character for both of them too.
Now I need to watch clips of the animated show now because I need a reminder of how good this show is.
Yes! They made a whole Avatar Studios and are gonna make more animated movies with the gaang as grownups and stuff! Very excited for it. ^^
yeh i am so excited too!
Thank you for voicing all the ridiculous things that we were all yelling about in the theater twelve years ago.
That one conversation with the extreme close ups had me burst into loud laughter in the theater. good times
This is legitimately the only movie I’ve walked out on in the theatre xD
I didn't walk, but the amount of anger as we all left was tangible in the air. No one was happy, it was just pure disappointment and anger.
The moment I heard his name I wanted to walk out but my mom wouldn't let me lol.
This was actually painful to watch, but also cathartic bc I know everyone here will get it and be just as pained as I am
I started a movie review blog because of this movie.
The disappointment I felt after being so excited to see it in the cinema could only be matched by the seething rage I felt as I put my frustrations in writing.
I used to be an M Knight fan before that movie was released. After that atrocity, he was dead to me.
It took THIS movie to get you off the Shyamalan train? Not "Aliens whose bodies react to water like it's acid invade a planet that's 70% covered in it"? Not "The plants are excreting a pheromone or something that makes people kill themselves, and then they just stop"? I don't know whether to be impressed by your resolve, or feel bad for you. He looked like he was on his way back after Split, but then he just pissed that goodwill up the wall with Glass, a movie that hurt my appreciation of Unbreakable by disproving my pet theory/unfortunate misunderstanding of the whole "Your weakness is water" thing. He literally becomes helpless if he gets wet? Not he still needs to breathe, and drowning is the easiest way to suffocate him? F*** that!
Has M Knight ever directed a single good movie? Look at his IMDB, theres only one decent movie and its arguable.
@@zeallust8542 I like Sixth Sense, and while, as mentioned, Glass kind of shot it in the ass, if I ignore that I can still appreciate Unbreakable. I liked Signs okay at first, but if you think about it for more than a second it falls apart, and not just because of the water thing. I haven't seen the rest of his work, just clips, reviews, and spoilers, but I actually do still want to see Split for whatever reason.
@@DanceMonkeychg Split is ignorant and ableist af. But if thats your style go ahead. I love movies that fear monger common mental disorders.
@@zeallust8542 thanks for making ALL the negative assumptions about myself and my character based on a vague interest in some fuckin' movie. Really makes YOU seem like the reasonable one.
I'm so old now I remember when we thought M. Night Shyamalan was a promising director.
Ego is destructive
I was feeling a bit down, so I came to rewatch this reaction. The "I've awoken to the pitch of my people" is pure Gold
This movie is the answer to "Why should we show and not tell?" Also, I think you should call watching bad movie posts "Natalie's Fool's Gold"
I read the title before the thumbnail loaded and was about to get a pitchfork..
Realizing I successfully have forgotten about this "movie", I have to thank you for reacting to it (but also condemn you for reminding me)
Much love
It’s like the actors forget their lines and wait for someone to whisper it for them behind the camera during the dialogue pauses 😂
just wondering, do you plan on watching Legend of Korra? :) if you don’t know, it’s about the next Avatar after Aang
YES!! SUFFER AS WE HAVE!!
it had to be said. this movie together with the Eragon fiasco and the new Wheel of time series forms the trinity of betrayals that haunts my nightmares. and even as I jest about enjoying your suffering, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
Oh god, Eragon. One of the worst *movies* I've ever watched, not to mention what a bad *adaptation* it is.
Nickelodeon actually announced a whole division called Avatar Studios which is being led by the original creators. They are planning 3 animated movies and a TV show. Meanwhile Netflix is also working on a live action adaptation of the series. Originally the creators were working with Netflix but due to creative disagreements they have left that project (Netflix is still making it and it is planned to be released, no official released date but filming for season 1 wrapped up this past June).
You need to 100 percent watch Legend of Korra as a palate cleanser after this.
