Try putting some rocks and a little bit of dirt down in your styrofoam candy canes or, maybe you could find a little clay flower pot ,and put some rocks in there. Take some wire and wrap it around the base of your candy cane, and sit that down inside, and then you can line your candy canes up in a row along your walkway ,and you will not have to worry about. them blowing down all over , they will be stable .I love the idea of your oversized ornaments, So cool. Enjoy your holiday.

How would you paint them what to use and seal with ?

If I were to paint the large balls, I would use gloss or high gloss spray paint and no sealer would be needed. However, if you wanted to seal them I would use any type of polycrylic sealer for outdoors.
