You are totally getting me in the Christmas spirit with these first 2 tutorials! 🤩 What a unique project for the beginning of the “the hap-happiest season of all”! These giant Christmas lights are so festive and fun! 🎄 Isaac, I love the energy and enthusiasm you bring to each of your tutorials. You are obviously having fun, and the feeling is contagious. Thanks for sharing! ❤️ 💚
Awesome ! .. i believe the insulation is essentially like pool noodles, in which case, if you blow a heat gun on the ends for just a second or 2, you can join the ends together without glue
Changed mine some I used pool noodles for the foam covering and solor lights so I didn’t have to plug it in and the paint for sun catchers from Walmart/dollar tree craft section so it’s light enough for color but let’s the sun in to charge the lights so excited how it looks in the yard getting ready for all the decorations and craft ideas
Isaac ! Good grief, you did it again !!!! I love these lights and they look so adorable ! I am a 75 + year grandma and I am always looking for new things that I can do for the grandkids to enjoy. I am going to make a couple of these sets this week and put them by the pool area for Christmas. Our pool room is enclosed so weather will not affect them. You make so many cute things and up until now, I have only enjoyed watching the videos but this one has "lit me up" ! If I have the energy I might even try to make those Christmas ball decorations, too. I'll let you know how they turned out. I don't know if I can send photos but if I can, I will. You are so talented and thank you for sharing your crafting ! Grandma from Texas
Thank you so much, appreciate you supporting me and watching my channel! You’re the best grandma from Texas I’ve ever met. These light strings are definitely a labor of love, so it’s definitely not easy, but I think you can do it! I’ll be here if you need any help. If you have a Facebook, you can send me pictures on there, just search “Isaac Alexander DIY“ on Facebook.
You could try liquid food colouring and mod podge like with the faux coloured glass. Just water it down enough to be able to swirl around the entire inside, let the excess drip out, let dry, and do another coat until you reach the desired opacity.
The trick to painting on plastic is to mix 1:4 ratio of Elmer's Glue (1 part glue / 4 parts paint) in the acrylic paint before you apply it. This makes the paint stick better and last longer. It may tint the color slightly but not enough to diminish the effect.
I cut my bottles with hacksaw and hole saw. Put neck of bottle in vise or some holding device and use hack saw. The hole saw can be sized for the size of bulb or socket used. No smell or fumes and done indoors.
SUPERB tutorial! Easy to follow and you make me feel confident that I could do it myself. I also love that you cover the fire hazard because I love this project, but my anxiety was thinking about the fire aspect. Can't wait to see what you do next!
You could tint acrylic paint with mod podge or school glue. Or you could use epoxy tinted with pigments. And im not sure that i wouldn't put my paint in the bottle and rotate the bottle until covered before cutting. You wouldn't have anything to clean except a funnel
Going to try this so I came back to the video for an instruction refresher and supply list…but ended up staying for Isaac’s responses to comments. Reading, sipping wine, and giggling 😂
I used liquid sandpaper, poured it inside rolled it around and let it sit 5 mins or so and let it dry. I bought fabric paint from Walmart. Poured it in, diluted with a bit of water and swirled it. I let the excess drip out.
❤🧡💛💚💙💜Isaac, you are the best DIYer. Thank you for taking so much time to figure out the best ways to execute these fabulous decorations. They may be a little more expensive, but you show how to make very unique items for a personal display. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
You need to use alcohol ink. It’s very concentrated, so you water it down some. It stains ANYTHING, including kitchen linoleum. (Ask me how I know.) You’ll find it in craft stores.

Absolutely beautiful!!! The creation, the colors, the explanation, everything is on point! They’re just like the classic Christmas lights, I love it! Your tutorials have become a very important part of Christmas Joy! Thank you!
Hello, I have just made this lights based on your tutorial.. It look great!!! Some tips I learnt while doing so.. I painted the insulation foam with a mixture of acrylic paint and white glue, makes it flexible and black instead of green to match the black bin for the plug and to cover the duck tape connecting the tubes For the lights, i used spray paint, doesn't matter how many times you try it will not look even, so you better get used to the patched look lol I did not need to use any zip tie as I glued everything don with hot glue and duck tape.. I did not need a hot knife, I use a stanley knife to cut the entire bottom off and a hacksaw for the neck all in all I spent about 200 dollars to make it ( I am from Sweden, everything here is more expensive ). Next project, your giant nutcrackers!! Tack!
I love your videos. I gotta mention also! It shows that your workouts are pauying off! AWESOME! I am sure your PArtner is real happy with your results and projects!
I feel like a hole saw and a miter saw might have been an easier way to cut the bottles. You could use a vice on the nozzle while cutting the bottom so it doesn't move, and then cut the nozzle off very slowly on the miter saw. This would keep from creating so many fumes as well.
My neighborhood goes crazy with Christmas decorations & each street has its own theme. Our street’s theme is “deer”. Do you have any suggestions that would be easy to store? I was thinking about backlit silhouettes made from MDF, but I’m not sure I’m that skilled with a jigsaw 😂
Use a step bit for the hole on the bottom and a utility knife on the top. No fumes. For the color on the plastic you can buy clear coat and mix in a bit of green for green, red for red. Pretty straightforward. ❤
For color - use stage gels. They're just flexible plastic sheets that generally come in perfect squares and they can withstand fairly high temperatures (commonly used before theaters switched to LED lights)
The way that you get the plastic bottles to take on the color you want and be translucent you need to go over the outside lightly with sandpaper or something abrasive then get mod podge that dries clear mix your color in it then apply and let dry
I tried mod podge and food coloring originally and painted 12 bottles with it, only to be extremely disappointed with how bad it looked 24 hours later. Had to start over
@@moyerchronicles7631 no, I used the mixture on the inside of the bottles. This is an outdoor display I made, mod podge is not waterproof or weather resistant so if I painted the outside of the bottles, it would wash off with the first rain or snow.
Use a hole saw on your cordless drill. They come in all sizes. Same with the plastic cups but use a wooden backer board to stabilize the soft plastic cup. AND do the waste basket/plug the same way. No smoke/fumes. Fast! Before cutting off the neck, mount the bottle on the drill (use a dowel and some tape. It's just temporary) and rotate the bottle at any speed while spraying the paint. You have some great family projects here. Thanks!

It’s connected with an extension cord on the opposite end, not the side that the trash bin is attached to. I used an extension cord. You just can’t see it because it’s hidden underneath the rug.
These lights are truly representative of Christmas magic. They light up without even being plugged in...lol. Great work! I especially liked your attention to calling out safety concerns for each step. As far as painting the bottles goes, you might try mixing clear school glue with food coloring and water until you have a thinned out consistently you're happy with. The food coloring will bond to the glue and once the glue dries, you should be left with a translucent pigment. Spraying it your way will be much quicker still, but if you're dead set on the original method, this might work.
Originally, I had tried mod podge with food coloring, and Elmers glue with food coloring, and both of them were such a huge disappointment that I had to start over. Even after they had dried, it was very bad overall.
You dont know how happy i am you posted this!! I saw carolina’s video a week ago and i bought all of the supplies to make this except for the paint because i was worried about it not adhering. You definitely saved my wallet lol.
Bro, you do not know the trouble I went through with the paint. Literally, that was the hardest part of this entire project. I tried so many times to figure out what she used and dozens and dozens of people kept asking for the name of the paint, but we weren’t getting any direct answers. The paint I used is not the paint she used so it’s going to look differently. I so wish I could have figured out what she used but I think it may not be available in the United States.
@@IsaacAlexanderDIYI think iDye Poly ink dye would stain the plastic. Just heat mix it with water, heat it up on the stove and submerge the bottles. I plan on making this and that’s how I’ll be staining the plastic bottles. Great DIY thank you!

A $1 store paper towel rack can hold the bottle and then you don’t have to hold it…. Sincerely, the woman who’s arm gets more paint than the item being created.. 😂😂😂
I make a lot of small pvc parts for Halloween projects and to color them I put them in a bath of Rit dye and acetone and shake it up. That might work from the inside of the bottle. Also, the foam that the pipe insulation as well as pool noodles are made out of can be joined to itself by heating each side with a heat gun and pushing together. No glue no tape.
wonderful decorations!!! Im paying attention this time . I did the spider but messed up and made the head too small. turned out ok just extra work getting it together. thanks for the video keep up the great work!
I was thinking this too and I would mix the paint with the glue and then completely coat the inside of the bottle before cutting it. Just put the lid on and spin until the inside is completely coated.
Mine keeps flaking off my noodles! I think I’m gonna try coating glue over and spray over it again. Wish me luck! This is taking a lot longer than I thought it would. Kinda Annoying
Oh my gosh!!!! These are so stinkin cute! Tell us, what don’t you do? I love seeing the cute decorations inside your home, too! I am so glad I found your channel! Don’t ever stop!
I wouldn't use hot glue hot glue tends to let go after a while. And especially if they're going to be outside in the wind and moving around a lot They're not going to last use e6000 or gorilla glue or something like that
@@IsaacAlexanderDIY P.S I bought six of your books last Christmas for kids at church. You are multi talented and I would encourage you to produce a second book for children.
After hearing that hulb clink on the cement a few times i would say leave those bulbs out until its time to put the painted "bulb" on...just to prevent breaks. This looks fantastic!! Great job!
I adore this idea! Amazing if your doing a shrunken down Nutcracker ballet theme or just an oversized theme. One minor thing that is odd to me but can easily be modified is the lights being on while the huge end is a male plug. Would make more since giving the female plug shown if the lights are on. But that is a minor thing. I'll have to make this sometime. Thanks for the totorial!

You are so informative and show all the steps and you are so creative. 😊 also in the original video Paige said she used the stained glass spray paint to paint the bottles I'm glad that you mentioned that that didn't work for you. It's good to know because the stained glass paint is apparently pretty expensive. Thank you for your content Isaac! We all appreciate you sharing it with us
@@IsaacAlexanderDIYguess u have to make a whole new video and credit the proper person and use alcohol inks and real coke bottles this time.... they have a pointy shape. Thank you for working out a tutorial! Pole noodles are seamless and Dollartree has green but getting cord inside would not be possible.
@Braedenfish you could split the pool noodles vertically, insert wires, and close with hot glue and a longer term glue to seal the noodles. Hot glue alone won’t stand up to the heat in Texas, especially while storing in summer. I had a wreath I made with Christmas ornaments. The hot glue melted during off season storage, and most of the ornaments fell off.

Appreciate your can/plug design with the inset wood. Exactly what I was gonna do.
Food colouring mixed in craft glue for the paint !? Or stain glass paint ?
I was thinking this too and I would mix the paint with the glue and then completely coat the inside of the bottle before cutting it. Just put the lid on and spin until the inside is completely coated.
Food coloring with Modge Podge should work.
@user-db1vn4ov4l that's what I would use. Works great on plastic
Looks fantastic! I will put this on summer to do list when I can do the plastic and spray painting outdoors.
Sounds great!
My biggest concern is the spray paint flaking over time outside, due to the flexibility of the plastic. I really want to make these!
I hope it doesn’t flake
Mine keeps flaking off my noodles! I think I’m gonna try coating glue over and spray over it again. Wish me luck! This is taking a lot longer than I thought it would. Kinda Annoying
Oh my gosh!!!! These are so stinkin cute! Tell us, what don’t you do? I love seeing the cute decorations inside your home, too!
I am so glad I found your channel! Don’t ever stop!
Thank you so much!
Alcohol ink would work well and be beautiful. You could even blend colours for an unusual effect.
I was thinking the same thing
I’m blown away how do you top this it looks amazing 🤩 omg 😱 I’m so excited for the end result. Thank you for sharing have a wonderful evening 😊🧵🪡🤗🤩
Thanks so much 😊🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
A hole saw kit and a hack saw would be alot quicker aand neater making holes.
I feel like Isaac house smells like fall and Christmas all year round and I’m jealous
Please, where did you plug-in?
I saw on Instagram, the other end is connected to power
This is so cute and would be perfect for a "Candy Land Christmas"!! Thank you so much for the inspiration
You’re very welcome
Glue mixed with acrylic for paint
Oh my goodness! Im gonna have to theme a Christmas around giant decore. So much fun!
You should!
I wouldn't use hot glue hot glue tends to let go after a while. And especially if they're going to be outside in the wind and moving around a lot They're not going to last use e6000 or gorilla glue or something like that
I completely agree
That is a very clever use of the empty plastic pop bottles. Great concept and great video,
Thank you! Cheers!
@@IsaacAlexanderDIY I'm blown away by this project. I think I might be able to this decoration.
@@IsaacAlexanderDIY P.S I bought six of your books last Christmas for kids at church. You are multi talented and I would encourage you to produce a second book for children.
@@GaryTBuffalo24 oh wow, SIX?!?! That’s amazing! Thank you so much for that kindness! Appreciate the support
4:00 maybe try modge podged and food coloring
I mentioned in the video that I tried that. It didn’t work
After hearing that hulb clink on the cement a few times i would say leave those bulbs out until its time to put the painted "bulb" on...just to prevent breaks.
This looks fantastic!! Great job!
Thank you so much for this tip! 🎄
This would make me feel like I'm in the Christmas scene of toy story with the lights.
Love your crazy imagination guy! Thanks for sharing!
GIANT Christmas Light youtube video was good
I adore this idea!
I hadn’t thought of that, I think it’s just meant to be more a wow factor but you’re right, i think it should be a female end
Carolina is not the original maker of this project. The real creator should be given credit. She posted it 6 years ago. And her name is Paige hemmis and she was on the home show when she showed it
Omg no way! I thought this was her original creation
that's okay I just thought it would be good to know I love watching your videos more than anything.
I can’t find where she made them, do you have a link?
And now i have a new person to follow, love your personality! 😂 And wow, what a haul!
What do you pug this into to work?
