Thank you very much for adding the list of needed supplies with links for this project. It made shopping for everything super easy. Your creativity and talent is phenomenal. Thanks for sharing it with us and helping diy strugglers like me.
Nice job Isaac. I would suggest for those that are worried about cost, simply make the canes a little shorter, the pool noodles are sold in packs of 2, with a total of 110 inches. 10 feet of PVC is 120 inches, so cut off 10 inches and voila, only 2 noodles per cane. You could also use a landscape spotlight in front of the canes instead of led rope lights and save money. The stability issue can be fixed by placing 2 canes as an X overlapping each other, then tying a bow around the are where they overlap.
Did you consider putting the LEDs inside? Also, what about using saran wrap instead of the clear tape? Great stuff, I might make some of these this year.
Hey man! Yes I attempted to put the LED inside but no light was shown because of the PVC that goes inside the pool noodle. Without the PVC, I can’t get the shape of the candy cane so unfortunately that idea went out the window. Saran wrap is also a good idea, I didn’t go with that because I wanted to make sure that the LED lights wouldn’t slide up or down and using only saran wrap *could* lead to issues if it somehow moves and you have to remove the wrap to readjust the lights. But I’ve never used it before so I may be wrong! Great questions though!
@@anonymixx8106 Other than pool noodles being very dense, which would block the majority of light on the inside, the reason I use PVC is because I need to mold it for the hook and I need it to be sturdy enough that it doesn’t bend over. A clear tubing would do nothing to help the candy cane stand erect nor would it help with the hook/bend because when pool noodles are bent they still have tension on them and something strong needs to be on the inside to keep their shape from going back to normal.
To make the curved part smoother fill that part of the PVC with sand before heating. Also to make the curves just use a bunch of nails/screws into a curve on the board.
just ordered pool noodles, will start getting all my supplies lined up and build these by fall. ive been wanting huge candy canes for the yard, but buying would have cost a fortune. thanks! will also be doing the christmas trees too
Watching you wrap these canes, have you tried the 3 inch stretch wrap that is used for shipping? I was noticing that as you wrapped up around the crook, you had just a small struggle with the tape. Also, with the 3 " stretch wrap, once you are done wrapping, just a hit of heat will shrink the wrap tight and smooth it out.
I love this idea. They wouldn’t hold up to the wind where I live. Maybe I will make some really short versions. Finding white pool noodles will be interesting. I can find red and wrap in white and get the same results basically.
My candy canes look the same. I did have to rewrap the white tape at the top as there was a dark spot, due to the spacing was too far apart. Re-taped top. I did the pvc pipe, but didn’t curve it, I bent the top of the pool Noodle for the top, then tied the post and the edge of curve with fishing line or canvas string. You don’t see the string when lit up. Yes, the pvc pipe stops at the curve. Didn’t have the tools to heat and bend, so this works.
Am really enjoying your videos and can't wait to see your yard once you are all done for Christmas. Thanks too for giving me an idea on how to solve a snag in a current DIY project of my own :)
Love them. Oh,this morning I'm going to the plumbing department and look at the pipe. Thank you for sharing another great project. My family will say, what is she doing now
I think hot gluing some clear command hooks onto the white sections would be a good way to connect the lights. It would hold up well to the elements and allow the lights to be easily removed and replaced. But you could also get a curved upholstery needle and some fishing line and just stitch them into the foam though that could get pretty tedious. I would also recommend painting rather than tape due to the adhesives weakness when exposed to the elements.
Wow it’s amazing how it looks like the whole thing is glowing and it’s only the one strip of lights! These came out awesome and you’re so smart in the little jigs you make to make your job easier and more efficient. Such a good idea and you can’t even see the tape! Love these
Another awesome job Isaac. The clear duct tape gives the candy canes that shiny look, which makes them seem real..... BTW that giant pumpkin is FANTASTIC ! !
How are you powering the led strips? Individually or via a power strip? Thanks for the awesome videos. Keep them up and help inspire more folks to get in the spirit.
I'm glad I found this video this is exactly what I was picturing of doing this year so my children will be happy seeing the decorations among others that I have in mind thank you so much for doing this tutorial
Hey good morning Issac, I know we are all extremely busy. But I have a question to ask you. Could you make a video about the led strip light's you used for this project and many more. This 47ur old man has no idea what they are, and never seen or touch them. This video wouldn't require you to make something just and educational video. Thanks from Arizona
P.S. with all the holiday props you make it would be cool to see you make a lighted sign that says “Welcome to Winter Wonderland “ all the fancy ‘W’s with that little calligraphy curl, with white background and red lettering ( the old style winter wonderland signs) but lit up like your candy canes. Just a thought because I can’t find nothing like that in stores. Since you make everything big you might as well do it billboard size ! ❤️ 😂
Candy canes are great for Christmas! If there was a good version of little drummer boy which there's been plenty, it would be from this band... White heart 🎶 Little Drummer Boy 🎶
I’m so very happy I stumbled across your amazing UA-cam channel. I’m keen to make the candy canes but here in Australia white pool noodles are extremely hard to come by. Would you recommend using a red pool noodle with white tape being wrapped around to decorate? Look forward to your feedback. Cheers Lindsay
If you use 1” shark bite or pex the leds can be placed inside the tube. It gives it nice diffused look. I use this method for my Christmas arches. But Not sure if it would show through the white pool noodles tho. Awesome job.
Currently using clear pex with led's through the pex. Lights shows through the pex and noodle tremendously. It is very vibrant and stands out amazingly
Growing up drinking hot cocoa with candy candy while adults had rum and eggnog. Still prefer the hot cocoa over eggnog. Imagine the driveway lined with those.
I made six of these and the WD-40 makes putting the pool noodles on MUCH easier. The LED strip on the outside facing in makes for a good stripe and illuminates the foam well. I ordered the LED's on Amazon but had trouble with two of the strips. Fortunately, Amazon has an easy return policy. Got many compliments from neighbors :-)
Great project. I'll be waiting for pool noodles to show up in the shops next year to be ready. I'll probably add a micro controller and WLED for light effects.
I wonder if you used plastic wrap like you use around a pallet to wrap around the outside to hold the lights in place and give the appearance of them being wrapped up still.
Use zip ties to hold the lights in place. I live in Florida so if you put the PVC on the hot concrete for half the day they are easier to bend if you have extra metal from a shed put them on that then they really heat up. You might want to make this a Christmas in July project.
Great video and explanation. Where are you sourcing the white pool noodles this time of year? I wonder how easy this would be to make for lining a driveway with multiple? I’d have to figure out how to scale them down a bit, 8 feet on my slopped driveway would probably look a little awkward.
Rather than use wd-40 use dish detergent. It will slide right on, but when dry it will act like an adhesive.
and is not caustic like WD-40. Brilliant.
Thank you very much for adding the list of needed supplies with links for this project. It made shopping for everything super easy. Your creativity and talent is phenomenal. Thanks for sharing it with us and helping diy strugglers like me.

You are INCREDIBLY TALENTED!!!!

You can get white and red tinted packing saran wrap too, the kind on a hand roller.
@@IsaacAlexanderDIY hmmm some sort of clear tubing instead maybe? They'd have to be super bright. The pool noodles are pretty dense.

They turned out so beautiful!
no fancy tools and a good product ,good job keep pushing !!
Thanks for the video. I purchased the rope lights you linked, but the power block says for indoor use only. How did you wrap it up so it’s waterproof?
I didn’t wrap it, I just left it out in the yard and I didn’t ruin it

Amazing job

Great job, I was thinking giant peppermint round candies would be really cute too for Christmas 🎅☃️❄️🎄

I am making my own decorations this year with my son for our Christmas gingerbread house. You just saved me a bunch on money Thanks!
Omgoodness, this is a FANTASTIC IDEA!!!!!!! Thank you!
You’re very welcome :)
You could also use some dish soap or hand soap etc. it’ll then dry and help adhere it together.
Thank you for sharing. I want to make my yard very festive. If I can get a break in life and from sickness ❤️🙏🏼
Thank you for the kind words Victoria! I hope you get better soon

Making these for my 12 ft skelly! Thanks for the video
Built 10 of these for the front yard haha. Put white LEDs on the white and red LEDs on the red tape. Super bright!!
Oh that’s awesome ! I bet they came out so good!
Love these
These are so cute & festive! Where does one get white pool noodles? Or do y’all just spray paint them white?
In the tutorial I explained that you can buy them online and I even said that I would include the link in the description of the video. 🙂
Another great tutorial, Isaac! QUESTION: How do you keep these from spinning around in the wind or possibly even blowing away?
These look great! I see a large pumpkin in the background. Did you make that as well?
Thank you for sharing. I love it. Also thanks for sharing the materials to create the candy cane as well as your video. Merry Christmas.
Your quite welcome Marjorie
Where do you get white noodles?
Nicely done. Will do this have the leds the rest.. HD here I go.
Go Charlotte!!!! Rock Hill.
These would be perfect for a life size gingerbread house!

Hot sand inside the PVC pipe is an easier and quicker way to form the hook. The backyard roller coaster builders use the hot sand method.

That would look kinda odd in my opinion but it would definitely work. Only other option would be spray painting it but that's just really unnecessary

The problem is the dense pool noodle. Very little light escapes that and the effects would be muted. It wouldn’t be worth putting LEDs inside of it
