- This is one that normally we would walk away from and cut up for spares but just for you, we've been on an epic adventure to try and get a tune out of this 80 year old truck that's been left to stand and seize solid for 30 years.
So buckle up, keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best...

This episode is longer than normal and it goes in to detail as to why we wouldn't normally go to these lengths when making a video. If you have the mental capacity of a squirrels ball-sack, can't take in information or are a dull nonce that has little to offer the world, please skip this video and go watch Phil and Holly.
The rest of you, Enjoy 😉
Feckin brilliant mate 🤣👍🥃
First video I've watched of you guys and it was brilliant and made me laugh! Subscribed!!
you get some right jam rolls comenting on here the episode was too long aaahh bless did mumy tell you it was time for beddy bys
This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've watched this video and it still makes me laugh watching you guys celebrate the fact that the engine was pissing everything out there moles brilliant well done guys keep up the good work if you're still monitoring this😅😅😅😅😅
Epic video. Love the longer ones, we can see the effort and the banter , which is brilliant.
I love how Brits start a sequence of dialog with "Right!". It's as though they are declaring at the start, "what I am about to say is authoritatively true".
It is...
You have got to get it going, I was born in London, but through the 1950's I travelled up and down to Sunderland and back London and saw equipment dumps after the war full of these vehicles . I remember those trucks, thousands of them, all gone now, the survivors must be restored. Do it.
I was hatched in 1950. As a child and in a previous life I lived close to a timber yard. The owners had 2 of these old gals hauling huge trailer loads of timber every day. The trailers were massive and the tractor units would be using every bit of power pulling those trailers up an incline.
Great work both. Keep at her.
Many moons ago a Glastonbury mud year.. I got to play in one of these. it was a monster. It made a fortune pulling rigs on and off site. It had a huge switch like something off the old Frankenstein movie to start it.. Was told not to brake hard or the cab might fall off. Loved it.
As a Yank I am just now learning what a Matador is... one hell of a minty majestic truck is what it is 👌
Lord Muck, us over here in the USA want in on the action. 2023= not many WW2 era vehicles to recover over here anymore. Y'all got a great find there! Much luck and love the humor!
I'm on board 👍. It's a Matador, what's not to like? 😉
I think this has to bee the best "Will I Start you have ever done over the years. bloody lovly
The rush I got when it started turning, brilliant, best drug ever. Thank you. Great show.
I live in South Wales and a man who lived in my village called John Edwards had one of those and he was a wood cutter, after his passing the truck was sold in the nineties, it was something special to look at and became a local landmark.
That looked from the Start that she was Dead.... But Mucker and Matt sorted it and she was nearly firing on all Cylinders 😆 🤣 😂... Brilliant to see it move, and u two need to do more Videos together as they are brilliant..... Great Content as normal
This was a brilliant thing, to see the old girls "heart" turning over and potentially saving a piece of history was amazing! These trucks have always fascinated me with their looks, the ungainly looking cab etc. The fair that came to my village and still does had a collection of these little beuts as generator trucks and towing vehicles as well! Great stuff Guys!!
Many thanks for a great watch again, I wasted a lot of time watching you on the tractor run & thoroughly enjoyed it, THEN you post this one about the Matador, I am 72 now but at the age of 19 I worked as a trailer boy on a Matador & pipe trailer for William Press in Kent & that one had all the window frames polished along with most of the copper pipes. It was amazing where we took it especially off road, one got the trailer loaded with pipes bogged & ours was hooked up to it with the winch & we could not move it, enter an RB 22 crane to pull our Matador plus the stuck one, the RB 22 was pulling itself toward us so it was anchored to a large tree & we managed to pull the trailer out, the tension of the total pull was frightening but the Matadors survived it.I have driven many AEC's over the years & just love them. Again many thanks.
1min in, and i already love it, getting the coffee. Hahhaha
She’s a good ole Gurl that matador 😊
Dad and I enjoy all your videos but as an ex lorry driver dad especially likes these old Matadors.
Thanks Mucker for giving us a super enjoyable Sunday evening watch.
Pretty amazing that you got so far with this and we are looking forward to seeing progress on the old gal.
Seasons greetings to you all.
Just found your channel. Subbed straight away.
Really pleased you're going to push on with this job - me dad drove one or two of these wagons in the desert back in his day.
Good luck with it.
🇺🇸 Where the hell are you guys from in the U.K. I can actually understand what you are saying. I watch B.B.C. AMERICA news all the time and can't understand half of what they are blabbering about. Good luck on that animal your restoring. 👍
Well it turns over. You know what comes next? I hope to see it run! 🇨🇦
The Maltese Cross on the red background was the flash for Malta Command and the red & blue insignia on the other side would indicate a Royal Artillery Unit. If they were both applied at the same time then the vehicle was probably used by an AA unit (possibly during the siege!), as they made up the majority of RA units on Malta during WWII. Great video as always, keep them coming! Love to see the Matadors!
This randomly appeared in my feed, watched in full with no skipping and loved it, great banter with the English make do and mend mentality. and what a beast that thing is! There use to be a massive scrap yard in Poole, Dorset alongside Ringwood Rd backing onto industrial land, it is long gone now as we use to knock around in it as kids in the late 1980's, it was full of these old birds, many with a turret ring in the roof for a gun mount at guess, I imagine most ended up in the smelting pot, from memory they're were generally pretty solid with good cabs still.
Anyhow I've subbed to you lads and look forward to more, have a great Christmas.
Glad you enjoyed it, we should continue with it early next month but there will be lots of other stuff to see in between.
Happy Christmas 👍
Good timing melod, just having a brew slobbed out in front of the open fire!
“Don’t we all”, mate, I’m crying. 🤣🤣🤣🇬🇧🎅🏻
I was cheering for you, when you finally got it to turn through, job well done, thanks for not giving up
Well, that was a will it start worth waiting for. Good to see it “as it is”, and love seeing you and Matt together as you have a bit of fun - Matt certainly has a droll wit!
If watching/ liking/ subscribing is all it takes to get more of this content then I am getting real value for money entertainment. 👍
There's that film of the sunken ship in the Red Sea- the Thistlegorm and along with LMS locos, motorbikes and other things there's a Matador on board. Now, getting that started would be the ultimate challenge.
*ALL* the Safety 😂😂😂
I REALLY ENJOY WATCHING YOUR CHANNEL BECAUSE YOU ALWAYS UPHOLD THE GOOD OLD TRADITIONS OF BRITISH HUMOUR. OUTSTANDING!
I got a little excited when I saw the pistons come free and the old girl lurch about. I’m with you on the history side, half the charm of the old gear is there past work lives.
Dad used to drive them when he was in the forces.. Also Leyland Hippos and Bedford QLs 👌
Ayup me ol mucker, this episode is bloody brilliant, my great grandfather drove 1 in the same colours during the Africa campaign with the royal artillery.
Can't wait for the next episode on this old girl.
You and Matt, do well
Frank
Just great to see you both still wanting to see this old girl survive muckers
A very entertaining video, and the banter. 👍👍
Looking forward to the next instalment 👍
I've literally just found your channel, and it's a bit of me, this! I see two good friends, doing questionable things, with a wonderful injection of humour... I also see, two very experienced mechanics, who know their sh*t inside out, but being humble about it. Subscribed. 👌
Glad you enjoyed it. We have a laugh and it really aggravates the no-marks who haven't the knowledge or ability but try and convince those around that they do (the ones who don't like any explanation or talking because they're too thick to actually know what it all means) Glad to have you along 😉👍
Mechanic by trade me ol' Mukka, I see ya skills. 👌💪🔥
Always feel free to jump in and comment - that's how knowledge is passed 😎👌🏼👌🏼
Love these videos and banter, no annoying music and he sounds like one us too .... A Norfolk/East Anglian man.... gods own county true grit men salt of the earth! maybe one day I can get over and share with my beaten up stock of plant, classic cars ,etc. Great video for those who have been bitten. Keep them coming.
When that released… I had a huge smile on my grid… well done both…👍👍
The intro alone got a like from me over in Australia 😂 🍻
Satisfaction at seeing the engine turn over again, and again, and again, ya messy geezer.
Absolutely terrific👌 the moment the old desert rat misted out that diesel out the injector holes!😁 And as usual birds nest for luck! I'll keep supporting you M'lod so you can keep doing this sort of fun stuff.
All the best, cheers, Mike
I love the Ivor the engine insertion brings back good memories
Best comedy show on UA-cam 😂 I'm always constantly pissing myself when you're fooling with Matt! Keep it up Mucker 🤘
That was amazing! Perseverance unto the last. When it starting shooting Derv out it was like the spurting champagne bottle at a race victory.
By far the best entertainment I've watched all week , apart from you and Mildred on the tractor run yesterday as a spin off Matt should bottle that heating and used engine oil as after shave - mattadior 😃😃😃
Great video again nice to see you both working on a matador should be an interesting next set of videos well done guy's
Going to be a few weeks but keep supporting the channel and our other videos and we will be able to keep doing the Matadors and old tractors
Really enjoyed that. Was amazing to see it squirting the diesel out after being so stuck
That is some impressive Dinosaur spunk in that rocker box!
Great video well done
We very much appreciate you both taking time out of your busy work schedule to graft on stuff for our pure joy and entertainment magic stuff ✨️ 😀
I've just watched that camarata guy and its mind boggling how so many folk are sucked in by his incompetence. You guys on the other hand play around but it's plain to see you know exactly what you're doing. Keep it up !
I agree. How on earth he gets so many followers it's like he creates drama just for views. Mucker is in a different league, would love to see him collaborate with diesel creek
That guy is a accident waiting to happen, how he has not killed himself has got me beat .
Before you go much further I would suggest pulling the sump off . The sludge in the heads reminds me of a 220hp Scania I was working on about 35 years ago . Temperature 30c plus and had to pull the sump to change the oil . First and only time I have changed oil with a shovel . Strange thing is there was still oil pressure before and after . The truck was doing line haul between Sydney and Melbourne doing about 6000k a week or 3 trips It was still going 2 years plus after when I changed jobs still without a problem . Ahhh the life of a diesel mechanic
Sump is full of crud and Shyte that we've flooded it with so it will be taken off, cleaned and crank visually inspected before we attempt to start it otherwise we will be swilling all that debris around
Thank you Matt and Mucker! I absolutely LOVE these long videos, especially if it features a matador! I truly appreciate the work you put in for these. I can't wait to see what happens next with this engine.
Incredible that the insignia is still poking through....loved the video...
Fantastic to see it turning over with the starter motor by the end. From what most other people would send off to the scrap man, you guys have spent your time to get it one step nearer to running!
They don't build them like they used to, such a throw away society now, nothings really built to last these days.
Pocket full of spanners, intense investment of time, labour, driving.... but one great old Mat. with a lot of history, no doubt!
She's rough, but if you can save her heart, who knows what her future could hold?
We very much appreciate the time effort and money you contribute to the videos for our enjoyment !!
That one she’s a runner……Subscribed and liked every time it’s the decent to do for more than decent content…stuff the shite on the telly 👍👍
I was like a kid at Christmas you lot did it
Two days well spent!
This crane came from Bashley Saw Mill, I grew up next door remember it working years ago, my parents may have some old pics of it working.
Please could we see a copy of the pictures?
It’s good to see mat smile on camera 😂 keep up the brilliant footage
All I can say Kurt bloody brilliant 👌🏻 be awesome to see it run again 👍
Well done Mucker, you and Matt have done a great job on freeing the Matador engine. Keep on going Mucker 👍🚜🔧
Love it - boys with their toys! Great video
Chuffed to bits when you got the old girl turning! She wants to live! 👍🇬🇧
That was brilliant perseverance paid off thanks
That was unbelievable, It looked very bad at the start, I'm impressed, had a bloody good laugh and was entertained.
All for the price of nowt.
Win win win.
Not much spraying out of number one, but great to see it going over…
That cab front profile reminds me of the old 1947 30 cwt MCC Parcels Van (PV) that my dad used to have, he made it into a kinda motor-caravan when we were kids in the late 50s… we always had a holiday.
Good old days.
❤️🇬🇧🇷🇴
Another great video Mucker........keep up the good work.
if anyone tells you that you shouldn't use a 2t lifting strop for towing because it's not strong enough, just point out the massive factor of safety that's built in to any lifting equipment. Polyester strops tend to be 7:1 (it'll have been written on the label before it got ripped off) which is quite a bit more than an equivalent chain. Clearly that doesn't apply if half the strop is missing ;)
In an ideal world you'd use something with a bit of stretch to it for towing, it puts less strain on everything and is less likely to shock load and send a towing hitch flying through the air. In this case, I think that's probably exactly what you needed! The old twisted nylon ropes were good for that but you can get flat straps with some give in them too.
Fuel tank looks like one we had on an old class combined.
This is a class video seeing the both of you just doing it the way most of us would work on it 👏 👍 😀
Keep going, we’re all behind you. 🎉
Absolutely great. Please continue.
Would love to see this restored it's got such character.
Thoroughly enjoyed the video thanks. Brilliant job freeing it up.👍
Thanks guys, great stuff! I know it's a lot of work, but just wanted to say it's appreciated!
On another note, I'm no expert on these things, but my predication is she'll run. And when I say run, I don't mean sit there purring like a kitten at idle, but I think at the very least, she'll try to fire, and kinda run rough, then cough and die again, but I reckon now you've got her free there's probably at least some life there. And hey, if all else fails just dump all the ether down her throat and hope.
Your smile was amazing Mucka, she deserves to live again.
Absolutely Pukka mate. Been waiting for another Matt and Mat video. Love the banter you two have. 👍
Love the banter in the video, is that Monte's cap in the back of the cab?!!!.
Love watching these vids!. Saving old bits of kit like this and bringing them back from the brink!. More please and please get it running!. Maddog Australia.
Nice job. Thanks for showing us.
Brilliant, as usual, also finding some history, looking forward to the next instalment…..
Brilliant. Totally absorbing video. Well done!👍👍
That oily carbon sludge is like Cosmoline, I bet the metal underneath has been protected from the elements even if the mechanical parts are worn.
It’s an AEC engine, it’s bound to run again soon. 👍
Absolutely fantastic video
Fantastic to see you start this project.
45 minutes of viewing pleasure, thanks Mucker 😊👍
Another top class video, love the will it starts! All the best 👍
Love the AEC Matador! One probably fueled my granddad's B-17 at Great Ashfield, Suffolk as a fuel bowser.
Good on you for saving it.
Greetings from the USA.
More likely to have been a Federal 👌🏼 (some of which remained and got turned in to timber trucks to work alongside Matadors)
@@LordMuck Indeed. As often happens in war, equipment gets shared officially and "unofficially" as well. You guys made some great equipment! Gardner diesels, Bristol Centaurus, Mosquito, Hurricane, Spit, Lysander, etc.
I went to my Grandfather's base with him in 2000, and you guys came out with Jeeps, Studebakers, etc. Good stuff on your channel!
highly successful and entertaining. Thanks a lot and keep doing this revivals. Tks Frank
Brilliant as always, love these videos. Do well!
Bloody hell that's impressive! Good work.
Excellent video! Great work getting the result so far!
That was fantastic watching you and Matt get that turning over, awesome.
Ive just found your channel, playing catch up. I'm in catch up heaven. Just hilarious. Say it how it is. Brilliant.
Good evening me lord, Well I must say I didn’t think you was going to get it to turn over so that’s a big plus you just keep trying to get them to go and I will keep watching , Great tractor run last night 10 out 10. 🚜👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️
Love what you do great saving on vehicles keep them coming
Great vid as always...love the old matadors..👍👍
