Nice video. Very concise. Dad comin' in and you sayin' "quit that, I'm filming" gave me a chuckle. Thank you for this. Gave me a good prelude to my task at hand. Done a lot of BMW but never VW. Very helpful.

Putting a spring compressor on the back before undoing the lower shock bolt is the way to go - it can be hard to seat the spring properly using the jack method due to the drop of the rear arms. Also make sure your new shocks are short enough to hold the new shorter springs in place when the car is lifted - I've seen some people use stock length shocks that won't be held in place. Otherwise you risk the spring becoming unseated under cornering etc.

Brendan Fleming if this car had independent rear suspension I would have used a compressor but this way is so easy. Shock length is good. Made sure of it, spring can't move. I've done a lot of them, just never an mk4 jetta. But it's the same as most cars

Of course, the Jetta 4 is the same as the 3, 2 & 1, fixed rear beam. The last springs I did was on my old E46, and seating them was key - and difficult!

Brendan Fleming stuff with IRS is way harder for sure. The Jetta it's just a giant floppy beam like a jeep lol

Those suspension hardware are stretch bolts and should be replaced with new.

If you install lowering springs you need to replace the stut shocks compatible with the lowering springs right?

  • @wildwestpoint

Is it alright to install new lowering springs but still use the old stock shocks or you have to buy a shorter shocks?

wildwestpoint it's going to ride a lot better and prolong the life of the shocks if you buy shorter shocks. In this case the car was only lowered a little over an inch so I used new factory replacement stuff

Those Lowering springs are JDM SPORT SPRINGS! Front lowering levels range from 1.3" - 2.5" & rear lowering levels range from 1.2" - 2.6"
