@@jeremiahbrothers8346 heyyyy buddy this is ur brother lol congrats btw
This should be pinned
Oh and congratulations you got yourself a great guy
glad to know
Cheers to happy couple! 🥂
Colm, an idea: Country Roads. Hear me out, Merlin's farewell (Kingsman 2) is the best take on the song (that Scottish accent just nails it). Let's hear your Irish lilt knock it out of the park!
@Theophilus McArthur Adding to your nerdness, "lover of god," the Merlin is often named Taliesin in Arthurian literature.
On your recommendation, Rogue, I hunted down the Kingsman version. Stung my eyes with tears -- thank you!
@Theophilus McArthur Idiot me didn't even notice the last name -- good one! You could also use fitzArthur, which means "son of Arthur" in French and in Middle English. My excuse for nerdery is that I'm an English prof, retired, who at one time had more books by/about Tolkien and more Arthuriana than 2 different university libraries; I majored in English because that field would allow me to read, talk, and write about things I loved -- and get paid! What's the origin of your nerdness?
@Theophilus McArthur I hear you! We fellow/sister nerdlings, however, would overlook ANY hint of anything illegitimate; remember that the US "Camelot" President was John Fitzgerald Kennedy. . . and yes, I can remember EXACTLY where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news of his assassination.
@Theophilus McArthur WHOOP! I, too, am an enthusiastic Christian, although I am not in the LEAST enthusiastic about the garbage being practiced currently in Christ's name. I would purely love to read some of your poetry! Here's a tiny sample of mine, Celtic in its spareness and in its "language of wonder":
Waterfall
Loud water: bright daughter of singing.
Earth thunder: from under-earth springing.
Rock-riven: rain-driven to ocean.
Stone-creasing: unceasing, your motion.
The 14 dislikes are girls who are bummed to find out Colm is spoken for.
make that almost 30 XDD
@@sketjtheinkle8268 those are the dudes who found out he's spoken for
@@sketjtheinkle8268 Now 33 dislikes. Those are the non-binary people who are bummed to find out that Colm is spoken for.
@@maximiliankoch1156 35 now, apparently. I'm guessing that means at least a couple bi folks were bummed that one (or both) of them are spoken for.
We're up to 37. Kind of weird that asexuals are bummed he's single, but hey, I get it.
Dude... I've heard this song a ton of times, but it's never felt more menacing than this.
SAME
Whats your vocal range?
Colm: Yes
keep up the good work, both of you!
LYRICS:
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
They strung up a man
They say who murdered three
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where the dead man called out
For his love to flee
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where told you to run
So we'd both be free
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where necklace of hope
Side by side with me
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where told you to run
So we'd both be free
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight
In the hanging tree
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
They strung up a man (They strung up a man)
They say who murdered three (They say who murdered three)
(Strange things did happen here)
(No stranger would it be)
(If we met at midnight)
(In the hanging tree)
Thank you!!
Originally it was "wear a necklace of rope, side by side with me" in the book but they changed it to "necklace of hope" in the movie and song, which is a shame
you forgot the i in "Where i told you to run"
@@archygrey9093 It's been a long time since I read the books, but wasn't that addressed in the books too? I could swear I could remember reading Katniss saying that it was *supposed* to be "necklace of rope," but she or her father had changed the word, potentially for irony's sake. I don't remember the exact reason, but I always thought I remembered her remarking on it.
I’m going through radiation therapy for a brain tumor. Your music makes me so happy. Thank you for sharing your beautiful gifts. Blessings to you and your family.🙏🏻
Best of luck to you, fellow person
Wish you all the luck in the world!
Fight till you win! My mother-in-law had cancer and now she is in a better place. Not becouse of the cancer though but incompetent doctor. He never gave her any blood thinning meds. As soon as the cancer was gone she got pulmonary embolism and passed away. These days WE have to teach doctors doing their job apparently. I'm with you with all my heart and wish you win this fight.
Ps. I am sorry for my poor English.
I wish you the best of luck
You aight bro?
I'm always slow on the discovery for these duets. 9 months after it drops. But regardless, the duets with the fiancé are some of my favorites. Please do more. You two compliment each other so well. Not just the voices. There's a vibe.
THIS IS EPIC! I love it!!
Always get chills by this no matter how many times I listen to it on Spotify. It’s hauntingly beautiful. I love that Savannah is on this, her voice suits this song so well. I normally prefer the originals of songs but this will always be the favourite now 😁
It was amazing!
Eyyy cheers, mate! Thanks for stopping by and listening 🤜🤛
@@ColmRMcGuinness hey man, new sub here, quickly becoming a big fan :)
Got a request for ya: I would love to see you do a cover of Deep Stone Lullaby from Destiny 2. Thanks, mate
@@ColmRMcGuinness You guys sing amazingly. You are a wonderful couple and you need to sing a duet. You are assured of success.
This sounds like a song for soldiers going to sacrifice themselves hella cinematic
Have you never seen The Hunger Games Movies?? This scene was insane
Just got back from Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
This song is even sadder now! Wonderful!
Just watched The Hunger Games again and only a day later this was posted. One of my favorite songs in movies. Great job!
Hey, I know this sounds off, but I think you should read the books too, the movie is great but in the books are more scenes that aren't in the movie, also, this is my favorite song in movies too!
@@chiranalexa6903 the books r greate!
Everyone is amazed by these 2 incredible voices like I am, and still no one has mentionned the Powerful music behind ! That evolution from the begining to the end is always catching me ! Great job to the composer behind the voices, where all the instruments and voices are melting into such epic openess !
I was never this early to a music vid. Also, even your fiance sings?! Jesus I really wanna be your neighbor lol.
@Theophilus McArthur I'll just bring along my sheleighly
@Theophilus McArthur where in God's name did you hear that? You can buy houses in ireland without guns.. the closest thing to what you said being real is that homeowners are legally allowed to shoot and kill intruders.
@Theophilus McArthur this is America, you do anything related to killing or even being rude you're immediately shunned and called something or another-phobic. Also, mb on that, when jokes about things I don't fully know have zero "backup" to being a joke I take it seriously. More of an internet thing, due to I can't hear the "tone" of the text. If you said that straight in front of me, I'd most likely be able to understand that it was a joke, regardless of information.
@@oompaloompa7014 what did the lad say?
@@elijahjamescomia6331 something about a shortage of houses in ireland and people using guns to take them legally if I recall
I love the inflections in her singing. You two sound absolutely amazing together!
I know the repetition of the first two verses is from the film and not the book, but I sometimes imagine the first verse repeated becoming "wouldn't bend his knee" instead of "said who murdered three." It continues to build on the man's situation, makes the song more inciteful and ban-enticing, and it brings the song around full circle.
I only started these films after covering this. I’d originally googled the lyrics so I didn’t get the significance in the difference between ‘necklace of hope’ and ‘necklace of rope’. We live and we learn I guess 🤷♂️😂
You keep getting better and I keep thinking that's hardly possible, but here we are again! Very nice vocal match and very nice banjo, too :D
I don't have the skills or tools to do so, but I'm interested to see just how deep your voice got there at the very end. The cover was also done beautifully, you should do more songs together.
Cheers mate! It’s an A1, I record anything that low in the morning, past like 10am they ain’t happening! 😂
@@ColmRMcGuinness That is genuinely genius. I've never would have thought of that.
I felt genuine chills i've only had a few times before this, once when I realized in a few moments my convoy would be taking mortar fire in Afghanistan and another hearing an orchestral choir in person for the first (and so far last) time.
Hauntingly beautiful work Colm
2:25 there is just this unmistakable quality to this segment that is hard to describe but makes it my favorite part of the whole song.
Absolutely outstanding. Glorious ❤️ surpasses all expectations. Goosebumps. So happy to hear you both together again. You make magic.... Enjoy your pie x
This version came at just the right time! This world needs a revolution! The two of u sound absolutely amazing! The most haunting version of the song I’ve ever heard
Gosh, she seems so innocent and passionate , perfect embodiment of her part ! Also looks like she she'd fit in if she were born in the 1800's lol she's got the look
I love her whole vibe here.
I really love the use of the banjo here! This cover definitely provides the kind of sound I was expecting from the movie, as Katniss comes from what used to be West Virginia, which has a long tradition of Irish-influenced bluegrass music. The film version felt too, I don't know, indie?
That what I was thinking!! The blend of Colm and Savannah's voices capture the haunting earthiness of the book so well (and it just seems to make the whole thing better knowing they're in love).
I think this is closer to how it sounded when Lucy Gray and the Covey preformed it but not as intense and menacing
Bro, please inject this into my veins. I've listened to this dozens of time already, you are both AMAZING!
CONGRATULATIONS 🎊🎊 so happy for y'all 😘 💕 may God bless y'all with many happy year together 💓💓💓💓
This song is where I learned about the Hunger Games. Fell in love with the song, had to find out where it came from. Now reading the books and watching them too. Thank you Colm!
This song normally puts a shiver down my spine, your whistle alone was enough!
Holy sh.. , I am thrilled and excited to experience what you have created. I'm already listening in my head to an imagined version, and it's giving me goosebumps
I don't always know what significance the female vocalist adds, except to reach the highest notes Colm can't reach, but this actually added an entire new dimension to the song that no other cover has. BOTH lovers are singing. wow. chills and goosebumps the whole way through. wowwowowow
As a fellow baritone, his voice is gorgeous. Keep singing. Both singers are amazing, but baritone voices are so overlooked.
There's something so haunting about this cover of the Hanging Tree. It sends chills everytime I listen and I love it!
Your instrumentals are pretty epic, this was really fun to watch
Man! The range, the growl.... The perfection 🎉

Beware, president Snow will not be pleased, nevertheless I will come to the hanging tree 😍
Fun fact this song came from Snow's origin story, if you want the book its name is "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" its a good read
@@mikeschiller2000 I already read that book, a few weeks after the premiere. I agree - it's really good story.
@@socius1133 I know right!
@@mikeschiller2000 its one of my favorite books
Well done Colm and Savannah! Thank you for another classic with a twist, and I really appreciated your hard work. Together now!
Was just listening to the original last week which gave me inspiration for a hook for one of my players who is a rogue. The party knows something is up with the King. And this is a hook that they will take to force him to (hopefully) reveal his true form. But when they get the audience with the King about something going on now. The King's bard will be playing, but the rogue will pick up on a hidden poem in thieves cant mixed in with the song. The bard is also a assassin rogue.
Hear ye, hear ye.
Hear my words to thee
A tale, a tale, a tale of what will be
An end, an end, an end to tyranny
Will come, to be, from a mutiny
A king, a king, strung atop a tree
Hung high, high for all to see
Side by side, strong will we all shall be
And rise, as one, and once again be free
Come see, come see, come learn of what will be
Three, by three, come see, reach out and meet me
At the, square tree, you will only then find me
And hark, and hark, hark my words to thee
Alone, alone, alone must you be
Or will ye, will ye, high atop the tree
Will ye, will ye, hang along with he
He will know the square tree is the market square tree, and 3x3 is the 3rd hour of the 3rd day. To meet at the tree at 3 am, 3 days from now. He's gonna shit his pants when he picks up on it.
This is both beautiful and empowering at the same time. Well done, hope you two do some more songs in the future 😊
I would love to see him do some more Assassins creed stuff and even make his own Ezio family or try to do it
agreed! Ratiljost was amazing
Y'all are so awesomely beautiful together! Congratulations Mr. and Mrs.!
I've been searching for the best cover of this song since 2016 *WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE!?*
When I saw the notification I could already hear it fully formed in my head...
This has far surpassed that.
Yet another beautiful sound from you Colm along with the very warm voice of Savannah Simpson. Brilliant as per.
Colm R Macguinness, mockingjays that sing, these are a few of my favorite things...
I really liked the whistle at the beginning. Fantastic vocals and instrumentation! So happy to have this song stuck in my head again!
Phenomenal!
You two have tremendous voices that compliment each other perfectly, thank you for this :)
I accidentally discovered this song just now, I have no idea who you are, what this song is about, where it's from, why it exists. I know only that this is exactly what I needed to hear today. Thank you so much, this was sincerely one of the happiest accidents of my random web deep dives.
Hooray 😊 💕 how wonderful to see you both again. I loved the Ghost on the Shore... This is going to be amazing 😍
I love Savannah's voice so much! The cover of Ghost on the Shore you two did was the best combo of beautiful and spooky and wistful and I'd love if you did more together.
This should definitely be put into the new movie!!!!! The hunger games is one of a favorite series, you got the whole district 12 theme on point, and this was EPIC keep going you both sound amazing
As soon as I saw that you did a hanging tree song, I instantly hit play because I read the hunger games book and fun fact, this song was the call to rally up everyone
Haunting in the most gorgeous way. Your voices dance so beautifully together!
Easily the best rendition of this song!
And congratulations on the engagement! Looking forward to many songs with you two. God Bless you both!!!
My son sent me your video links, and I have to say, I'm so in love with you both! You are truly amazing, and I love how well you've formulated your music, voices and harmonies! Made this old Mum's heart beat with so much pride in you two! Yep very proud of you both indeed! I"ve subscribed, Liked and have sent your link to others, The skies the limit for you two! Keep it up my loves!
knowing how this song came to be and wat happens after ( the ballad of songbirds and snakes) it makes me want to cry
For some reason this one has got me thinking of Elysian Fields by the Mechanisms- a bit different from a lot of the songs you’ve done already, but I think you’d make it *that* more emotional
every single one of his subscribers watched this, that's devotion
My gosh, I legit got goosebumps at the end there, very dramatic arrangement!
His vocal depth just hit my arms with goose bumps! Geez!
Fantastic work as always, Colm!
I know it's a bit of an older song, but I'd absolutely adore if you two did a cover of "For The Dancing And The Dreaming" from How To Train Your Dragon 2! Looking forward to whatever you decide to do next!
Wow! Super nice. I Love the setup and buildup from both of you!
So real, both of you ! Love the sounds, keep going - what an adventure...
I've always loved this song for its haunting power, and you both really encapsulated that ♡ What a beautiful rendition!! I hope you two release more duets ♡♡
Mcguinness went big at tennocon 2021if I remember correctly there were 4 separate accounts of the red headed Irish siren voted in by fans and it was totally awesome to see you get the recognition you deserve my good man
YES!!!
I'll be coming to the tree at 4am when it premieres in my timezone
Holy s*** this guy is awesome. If you give him good recommendations, be careful. He’ll make the song so good it ruins the original for you. Colm you own this song now. This version should be the soundtrack for the movie.
This song always gives me chills. Fantastic job, both of you it sounds amazing!
I've been waiting for someone to cover this, and you did! I'm ecstatic! Thanks Colm!
Let's go I can't wait
And I was happy with this channel before. Man life is good right now! Love this song!
Literally best version on UA-cam
I had the same chills I got when I first watched the movie and haven't felt that chill since absolutely amazing ❤️❤️
Miss Vannah! You completely compliment your male counterpart's vocals! Very well done, my dear!
I remember reading the book and i literally shook to the bone with the darkness of it
i have this on loop everyday for background music for when i play my game :D
This is beautiful. I love this so much. Your more unique sounding voice combined with her eerily beautiful voice, and the background of dragon notes, really well done sir. I applaud you.
Edit: Autocorrect
Such a great version. EVERYTHING is improved with a banjo playing. I'd love to hear your take on "Nelson's Blood" a la Fisherman's Friends!
I don't know if you read "The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes" the 4th book of Hunger games saga. This is how I imagined this song in this book. Now I imagine Lucy Gray with Savannah's voice.
You sound AMAZING together! Congratulations and best wishes to you both!💍🥂🎻
Господи, это просто оргазм для моих ушей, я очень долго ждал годного каверы эту песню, и этот просто превосходен!
beautiful and painful, majestic and tragic, like freedom hanging from a tree branch, swaying in the wind...
I really enjoyed this, I listened to it while doing school work. It was amazing from start to finish!!!
So annoyed I missed the premiere 😭😭😭 another amazing song. And one of my fav movie songs ever 💜 keep it up mate

This...this is one of those songs I would have never thought of.
Damn I LOVE this, the way your voices match each other and the song!!!! 😱😍💞
I come back to this over and over. Your version is definitely my favorite of this song. Please do more duets with your fiance!!! :D You both sound fabulous together.
