There's something about Jennifer Lawrence's voice when she sang this song in the movie that made it so touching (I don't know if this is the right word for it). She sounds desperate, afraid, and sad all at the same time.
And that .. effect? Fits so well with that particular song, because if I remember correctly (it has been quite some time since I read the books) that song was basically banned by the capitol early in Katniss’ life because it was seen as potentially revolutionary in nature (despite having a history long predating the first rebellion) so it makes sense that she sounds afraid, not only has it always been very “risky” to sing it but she makes it clear that she doesn’t really like being in front of the camera either, also it probably reminds her a lot about her father
The increase in tempo is ever so slight, but CONSTANTLY building throughout the entire song, and the more people that are added and the louder it gets, the faster it gets too. For a hundred people to pull it all off? DAMN. From a note playing perspective, this song is easy. But from a technique and orchestration perspective? DAAAAAAMN.
Hats off to James Newton Howard for taking Suzanne Collins' lyrics and composing a breathtakingly... haunting, sad... troubling song. I can't remove it from the story in my head so Idk if Jenniffer Lawrence's rendition can be topped. The rawness and disquiet she sang it with was perfectly gut wrentching. That being said this rendition is beautiful and velvety. It feels far removed from the story but exquisitly and elegantly performed. Beautifully done.
It gives me epilouge vibes, a ceremony that takes place decades after Katniss' natural passsing. The Mockingjay's Rememberence. It's to celebrate Panem's new freedom and to remember the souls who *choose* to die for this.
I really agree. It's amazingly beautiful. Though I must add James Newton Howard didn't compose the tune, he only made the orchestral production. The song was composed by an American band whose name I cannot remember
The tear alliance they have with each other, knowing that their only goal is setting bombs. Knowing that their live will only lead to death; a suicide mission. So perfect to make audience feel connected

Yes, "The Hanging Tree" from The Hunger Games peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014, making it a successful song outside of the movie. It achieved double platinum status in the US and platinum status in Canada and Germany. Jennifer Lawrence sang the song, which was written by Suzanne Collins and the Lumineers, in the 2014 movie The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part I. In the movie The song, as performed by Katniss Everdeen in the film, ends up becoming a rebellion anthem for the districts. The rebel in the song is pleading with his neighbors to accompany him in his quest for independence.
