Thank you for walking up Bridge Street and past my grandparents house. I had many happy hours there from 1970 to 2002. The street hasn't changed that much at all. One point though- I think you mistakenly said the terraced houses in Bridge Street dated from 1890. My Grandad always said he bought his house as new in 1933.
They would more than likely have been 30s properties, I may have been referring to other houses nearby and still had the old dates in my head!! Many thanks for the correction
At last I saw the clock tower, was hoping to see it used to cycle from wednesbury, to work past guests motors showroom, I think it was around there, then there was a technical college I learned my trade there, motor mechanic. Someone might fill me in on that, soon be 80 so memory bit misty. Thank you for the walk around. 👍
Yes the technical college was built in the 50s and was opposite Highfields House it was demolished some years back and a huge students biomedical centre was built in its place
I can remember standing on the railway bridge at the top of cordley St when steam engines went underneath, and you were shrouded in thick smoke on the bridge from the train. We lived on dudley St 1 house up from where you started filming at the very beginning on the corner by the shell station and as kids we used to play in an alley that was at the bottom of our back garden that. I note from your video is now wrought metal gated 😢 MEMORIES
Hi Phil Guns Village and Carters Green look different at night the Shell Garage has been there for long time the old Railway I think was closed in the 1960s early 70s the Railway Route and the Bridges were still maintained I'm not sure by the council or the Railway the land was never built on this made it easy to build the line for the Metro I remember the old Signal Box and crossing at Swan Village all the best Paul
I also remember the route being used as public footpaths/cycle paths for some time before the proposed metro line. It was certainly some foresight not to have sold a lot of the old line off. Many thanks
Well after 3 hours you've still had no reply so I thought I would reply to you. I totally agree with you that we are a Christian country and I'm sure you and I both want to retain our own culture and identity and it's certainly not racist to say that.
@truthseeker7794 thank you for replying, it's nice someone feels the same, I just want my son to grow up with what we had, safety and to grow up with his own kind
