This is an awesome video PhiDX. I already warm up before getting into ranked, but have done so by usually labbing for a bit then doing some super ghost battles. I am definitely going to implement this SK Law drill into my warm ups now. Keep up the good work amigo!
such good content mate! I'm an old school Tekken player with legacy skills from Tekken 2 onwards and all this practice mode stuff is new to me with recordings etc. I started with Tekken in the 8th edition again, so this is very helpful.

You know ive been waiting for this vid! Ever since ive seen Lillypichu do these warmups on her streams, I was hoping you'd put out a full vid about it. Did not get disappointed! I love your content, Phi!
Thank you so much for having such skills in teaching this great game. I have been a Tekken fan since the 90s, but I've never played it to the full potential as I'm beginning to play it with Tekken 8. With that said, I notice that I have a bad habit of not focusing my sight and brain on where I should to have quick reactions to grabs, low hit, and more. I wonder if others have the same issue as me.
As a scrub with aspirations to be less scrubby, I do find a solid 30 mins of practice really helps me out. When I do practice, I always do throw break training to get my eyes to focus on the opponent's arms as well as punishment training. I like to wrap up with doing combo drills so they're fresh in my head and then run 2 or 3 Quick Matches. If the QMs go really bad, I go back to the lab and work on what I messed up on before heading into Ranked.
Nice! A whole 30 mins is something. As a fellow scrub, I think I should take warm ups more seriously ! I particularly suck at throw break. Have you seen any improvement by now? Keep it up my friend, I'm sure you're not scrubby at all
@@Cherilyn_45 yeah I actually break a handful of throws now as opposed to getting thrown the entire match lol. Overall, I do feel more reactive when I see the hands come out which at least gives me a chance.

I've been doing these sorts of exercises to keep my brain more sharp especially for my age and I'm almost at a point where I just prefer practice mode than online ranked sessions. It may seem repetitive and boring, but believe me it's worth it and will pay off in the long term.

I really like the way you provide the information (My note is always beside me when I watch your videos) … honestly speaking you’re one of the best Trekken Content Creators ❤
This video really helped me in getting better with defense and mentally preparing myself for ranked, but I would like to give some tips that gave me a boost to keep myself on my toes Ofc watch the entire video with all the warmups. KBD training, sidestep training, combo memory and then the meat and potatoes. When you get to do the Law training try this: Level 1: B1,2,2 and uf1,3 Level 2: 4,3 ~ f2 (This is where I'm currently at) Level 4: Flipkick Level 5: hopkick Personally what I do is every single time I get hit, I fuzzy the b1,2,2 string or I low block the blackout mugin I restart. Like I press the touch pad and x So when I get correct in a row I just kept going, this helped me not zone out soo much and try to anticipate the moves. I do it on both sides as well Overtime I became more and more strict on myself so u might now have to be strict to yourself right away. Hope this helps those looking for concentration and zoning out solutions
And I highly encourage to do these warmups starting on your non dominate side ie if you always chose left when playing online, warmup from the right side then go left vice versa cause you never know when you go to an offlline tournament and youre playing on your nonperfered side so this can help reduce the anxiety associated with that lol
Love your content, man! I‘ve been playing Tekken for a hot minute and tried going competitive since Tekken 7. Found myself plateauing at a point (I‘m Garyu in Tekken 8) and started doing some research on what I have to learn. Got a fighting stick now and learning everything I can from ground up and you‘ve helped a lot - thank you.
I feel like this is the same for me, been playing T7 most of the time but was stuck in orange rank, after going into T8 with roughly 120 hours in i‘m at Fujin, wich is gatekeeping pretty hard. What i want to say is keep going at it and watch from other pro‘s and you‘ll get there in no time ✌🏻
Man these drills are way more helpful than I could even imagine. I was wondering why over the past week I was wildly inconsistent. The first couple days I was playing god level on red ranks and towards the second half of the week I was very mediocre and slow on punishment on everything. Turns out it's because I was doing the drills for the first few days, but not after. TLDR; I play like twice as good on the days I do drills versus the days I don't. So it's time to start doing this every day!
Not commenting a lot (bad habit, I know), but I needed to send a shoutout for the work you do. Been watching you since T7, it is great to see you blossom on T8! Keep it up, it is amazing.
I've been doing drills like these since T7 with all characters ever since I realized I need to learn how to punish stuff and to punish things properly knowing what you have to do and what's punishable is NOT ENOUGH. Glad to see that I train like a pro even though I'm far from one XD Some of my favorites: Jun df4, 1+2, df 3+4,4, df3+4, 1+2, f2, f2,1+2( the concept with f2 is to fo for launch as soon as you block it and if they do the 2nd hit it jails so then you take your turn to go for a mid-low mixup since she's safe but -9 I believe) Kazuya: 1,2,4,3 (low parry the 2nd hit), df2, df1,2, df1,d2 (fuzzy duck, block the 2nd hit if he goes mid avoid and go for small punish if he goes high), d1+2 (try to react) You can make all sorts of these. If I have the CPU do something that's launch I do the combo from wherever I happen to be and try to get the highest damage possible. Also, once I get comfortable, I try kbd, dash blocking and ss block (even other movement options like crouch-dash block, wavedash block etc if the character has access to these) while the CPU does the recorded moves to train myself to focus on reacting and punishing even while trying to move. A little warning though from personal experience. Set a timer to a) not get carried away and end up spending hours in practice mode (unless that's your goal) b) not spend too much time drilling cause there have been times I warmed up too much and then I was tired and played like crap once I started playing matches XD

Tekken 8 is the Tekken game I'm definitely getting into and all of your content is helping build my confidence so I can boot up Ranked or go to a local without feeling so stressed. Thanks so much Phi!
personally I think that the law drill is much more effective as a cooldown routine than a warmup. the drill will make you tired and might even affect your reflexes once you start playing actual matches due to the fatigue from the drill but once you start doing the drill before each gaming session ends, the muscle memory will stick to you for better long-term results just my two cents tho as a valorant player. there are warmup drills meant to be quick and light to get your mind ready for the matches and there are exercises much better suited for after your gaming that'll drain you while at the same time make your aim so much better over-time. would like to get some feedback about this from the others. feel free to agree or disagree on this one
Good shit, dude, thanks! I've been hopping into the Group Matches in the Lounge to warmup ahead of Ranked and force myself to work on these areas dynamically. It'd be really helpful if the game allows you to save menu setups like this as a template so you can just load it and hop in - not unlike in The Matrix.
I’m definitely going to dedicate some time to training. I’ve been stuck now for months bushin Tekken king. I need to switch up and improve because frustration is starting to get the better of me.

@phidx I have become a fast fan of yours. I picked up Tekken 8 to play with a good friend and your content has been invaluable. Thanks for the good work.
"keep breathing" - most important in the tut i think. Sometimes i find myself in a very pressured situation and realized ive been holding my breath everytime and do some dumbshit eventually. Not breathing causes lack of oxygen and it freezes your brain to process fast. My swimming coach and jiujitsu coach also keeps on reminding me of this. keep breathing its not only good in physical sports it is crucial on mind games too.
Love your stuff, always excited for your content. Came from Tekken7, adjusting to T8 was hell, getting stomped by newcomers, though I was around Purple-Blue Rank players in T7. You are doing the Lord's work here for us Tekken players, me and my former blue friends have been saved by your content. Now I know to approach the game like a newcomer myself. Keep it up Sir Phi. (~Insert bow here)
This is exactly what I was looking for. A structured warmup. Going in with no direction most players will default to just doing combos or KBD. This video is worth its weight in gold.
Great video👌! Been watching all your guides but I usually can't find the will to actually go into practice mode and train. The "SK Law Drill" actually made me go try it for real. Would love videos with more drills for stringy characters I struggle with like Hwo, Victor or Leo! (Please don't make our vs our King strings )
Pretty poggers warm up guide! Will be including different WS moves when i practice this aswell, considering it can be hard to see which ones are -13 or not, which is pretty important for a kazuya main lol.
Man your guides are amazing! Clean structure, good drills and good info but not too much so very digestible. Your content is really great man, glad I found you! Happy subscriber
Mane @phidx I do appreciate the content you put out and hope we can match some day cuz not only this video resonated with me but as I was in the shower brainstorming over how to efficiently warm up before going to play offline, the structure you put out, even down to the SK Law drill is the pretty much the same method I came up with on top of a few personal changes to the SK Law drill! This is gonna be so fun, see yall at the top!

It would be sick if we could get a drill like this for every character. Like a pdf page or yt vid, it could be anything honestly. Having something like this for every character is dope
Hey @PhiDX, thanks so much for your content and your beginner-friendly delivery. Even though I don't believe I'll ever be able to (other than randomly) break throws in an actual match, I highly appreciate the drills you show here. :D I currently play Leroy, and there are a couple of moves, where I wonder what the specific use-cases for them are (if any?) outside of using them in combos when possible, like d1+2 / u2 / db1+2 / qcf2 and a couple more. I thought it might be interesting if you could talk a bit about how you can find out in the lab what the possible/ideal use cases for some moves of your characters are or if they are mb just niche scenario moves or if they're basically trash and not that useful. Because I believe frame data is one way to look at moves, but I feel like I'm still missing something and simply going by frame advantage or obvious properties like launcher, wall/floor-break etc. isn't everything, but maybe I got it wrong.
Honestly, currently, your number 1 tekken 8 content creator . Your videos are so valuable to old & new players. Please 🙏 continue walking on this path to help tekken players. we will be praying for you, coach ❤

Wtf, u deserve more subs, this is some crazy stuff
I love these trainig sessions! THX PhiDX!
Good video! Can’t wait to try it!
Actually trying to get decent at this game now after getting super into it in 7 and your videos have helped me a lot i feel so thank you very much
Love your stuff, always excited for your content. (~Insert bow here)
You're awesome brother, I'm gonna learn your ways sensei
I usually do movement and combo warm ups, this vid is a lvl up for our gameplan, it all comesback to the basics 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for your hard work and dedication to your videos Phi, for real. I hope you get more and more followers. :D
You're the best out here helping us players who are new to the series. ❤
Mad useful as always. Thanks for the free knowledge, Phi.
These videos have gotten me over my tekken hump. Much appreciated fam!!!
holy Hell a tough drill - really love this one!! it forces you to react properly when done right
I love this channel so much...so thorough and easy to digest
This is exactly what I was looking for. A structured warmup. Going in with no direction most players will default to just doing combos or KBD. This video is worth its weight in gold.
Thank you PhiDX. You’re the best
Incredibly helpful
Love the knowledge you share in this game!
Thanks. I've been stuck in red ranks for almost a month. I'm going to claw my way out soon thanks to you.
Quickly becoming my favorite Tekken content creator.
Maaan,love your vidéos !
No matter the subject there is always something to grasp.
Keep the good work…
My warm up is going into player battle and mashing as fast as I can. Gets it out my system.
Great video thank for the practice tips
Awesome video. All your guides are so helpful! Really appreciate 🤩 thanks so much for your work
Awesome drill, will incorporate!
Good to know, as a Bryan main I only did Taunt Jet Upper and Ki charge drills
Love your vids, i feel like you keep a really positive mindset it makes me feel better after reading the cesspool that is twitter
@PhiDX
Really appreciate all these well-explained videos😊
Thanks for this!
Ive been watching every video religiously after first seeing you with lily
ive been playing for 20 years and im kishin now and i think youre videos have been helpful in teaching me HOW to get better
ty man
I've been enjoying watching your videos Phi! I've been a Tekken casual since I got Tekken 3 for xmas as a kid 🤣and have only just started trying to break my mashy habits at the end of 7 cause I only really played if mates came over 🤣I've been learning a lot, thank you for all the info and advice you put out 😁
Im so far beyond pro I skip the warmup. Now... how do I get out of Red Ranks?
Dont mash, learn your best punishing moves and mix ups
@@kanoball3391 I appreciate the advice but I was being sarcastic with my comment. I myself am at Fujin. I said Red ranks as its the most populated.
Oh lol i didnt realise yh im at fujin too im finding it hard to get any win streak at the moment its defintlely a step up in competiton
😂😂😂
What a comment lol I’d imagine most red rank players probably legitimately think like that lol
Outstanding! Train, get better, and ENJOY the nuance of the game at higher levels.
It would be sick if we could get a drill like this for every character. Like a pdf page or yt vid, it could be anything honestly. Having something like this for every character is dope
Hell yea... A training regiment guide. Any sidestep training for when to properly sidestep. I always try to sidestep/sidewalk but i always get clipped
Hey @PhiDX, thanks so much for your content and your beginner-friendly delivery. Even though I don't believe I'll ever be able to (other than randomly) break throws in an actual match, I highly appreciate the drills you show here. :D
I currently play Leroy, and there are a couple of moves, where I wonder what the specific use-cases for them are (if any?) outside of using them in combos when possible, like d1+2 / u2 / db1+2 / qcf2 and a couple more.
Insightful as always. 🙏
Great content Phi!!!
Honestly, currently, your number 1 tekken 8 content creator . Your videos are so valuable to old & new players. Please 🙏 continue walking on this path to help tekken players. we will be praying for you, coach ❤
