Supertramp is an almost criminally underrated group. I know they had a LOT of competition on the 70s, but these guys were incredible! Give A Little Bit is another great one by them.
LarryWT That was the first song that I heard back in 1976 and loved that album though Crime of The Century is the album that progressive rock fans love!
JOEL LIEBLER Agreed! 👍
Every song they've ever done is genius.
And Fool's Overture. 10 minutes of pure bliss.
Karen Louise Ward Definitely! 👍👍💖
" Give a Little Bit " is their prettiest song.
Definitely a pretty message-
Great song and band. Highly underrated imo.
Please do Give A Little Bit. 💜
That's the first of their songs I ever heard in '77. Loved it.
Supertramp did get a lot of credit back in the day "Breakfast in America"was number one. They were all over the radio. I saw them in concert twice and they were spectacular
Yep they were all over Aussie and New Zealand radio! Very popular band with a heap of excellent music!
I was lucky enough to see them at The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium and they were fantastic!!!
Andy Danko I purchased and loved this whole album!
@@joelliebler5690 I don't know how but I ended up with three copies of the vinyl album, wore out two of them🤣🤣
Andy Danko 😀😂😃
I make that same face when the harmonica kicks in… and I’ve been listening to this song for decades. 😏
It cries. So much feeling
One of my favorite bands ever. I always felt people dismissed them because they have very few guitar driven songs. Most of their music is piano and horn driven.
And harmonica ~ The harmonica in this song ~ I really love & appreciate ~ So I rocked out on it with my harmonica. Never thought about that guitar "thing", very insightful point Steve ~ Thank You for that ~ Love & Happiness ~;-)
Another must check is Dreamer - Supertramp
Do you: keep those headphones on and listen to the entire Crime of the Century album, and enjoy!
You said it! One of the best albums ever made.
That's what l said...lol..so true
The best album in my opinion, School is my favorite track.
Totally agree with you about the meaningful depth of the lyrics:
"And when you look through the years and see what you could have been, oh what you might have been, if you had had more time."
Great
That line hits me REALLY hard. Time... where does it all go?
You have been a real joy in my life since I found you. Thank you
He’s really added a bright spot to each day during the pandemic and being shut in ! Thank you JayveeTV! 😁
I agree. He’s special.
It is no exaggeration that Supertramp's Breakfast in America dominated the airwaves for more than a year after it was released. I would turn on the radio and there was Supertramp one smash after another. Just amazing!
That harmonica is awesome.
Yep. Man, you are really going off today. I love me some Supertramp. I’ve still got them on vinyl. They seem to be in a similar place to Steely Dan. People either love them or they hate them. I love them both. I could never quite understand the ambivalence.
Pretty sure all their albums were in our house growing up! Jealous you still have vinyl!!
Horse Footrot 😂😂👍
Exactly!! I love both groups too!!
Horse Footrot Mate, that’s all we had back then (except for tapes, but they didn’t sound the same). I’ve got a lovely nephew who’s got his eye on my vinyl. ‘Kids’ are collecting them again. I even kept my ‘turntable’. It’d be interesting to see if it still works! 😂😂👍
Turd Ferguson I used to collect a lot of vinyl as a kid. Rod Stewart, Joy Division, The Church, Spy vs Spy, Goanna, Chisel, Akkka Dakka😉etc etc. It just went missing when I left home. My father has a seriously amazing collection, I mean collectors worthy albums from the 50’s onwards. I doubt I’ll be getting it though😭😭 Edit: my old man still has a working beta video player.
No surprise they had so many hits
Supertramp’s “Bloody Well Right” opens with a piano solo that will blow your mind!
It’s Raining Again is a good one also.
Makes me think of the "logical" song. Like them both!😊
Check out "It's raining again" from Famous Last Words
LOVE that song!
Definitely one of the best. Makes me tear up.
Supertramp were huge in the 70s. Everyone knew who they were and people of all ages listened to them. I was 12 or 14 when I fell in love with them. I'm 57 and they are still on my play list. You btw, are very authentic in your reactions.
As a teen in the 70’s this song takes me back to driving the strip and hanging out with friends. One day you’re care free and think you have so much time then before you know it, it’s gone. Still love these songs and the memories they bring, but also makes me sad and long to go back. The 70’s were a hell of time to be a teen and I sure miss the good times and crazy things we got into.
Hahaha Super Tramp were well recognised when I was growing up! They were all over the radio and TV mate.
Super Tramp "Bloody Well Right" great song. Great reaction bro!!!
I LOVE Supertramp. Please react to School. My all time favorite song of theirs! Rodger will amaze you with the piano!
Rick was the piano player of the solo. Not Roger.
The older you get, the more the lyrics resonate. You may get a different meaning from the song at various points in your life. Ultimately, it's telling you to live your life your own way, without apologies, and to enjoy the journey. My favorite Supertramp song!
Yes!! Same!
The sounds that come from supertramp, always surprised me that they're British, especially the harmonica and the bayou sounding southern guitars....mindblown again. I come from at time when if you had ELO in your record collection, then you almost always carried Supertramp...but this song I was back in 1975ish Purple wallpaper and Pampas Grass.....braingasm!!
Yep! Both bands for sure.
Exactly my feeling
I do not know what these people look like and I’ve listened to them on the radio over 30 years ... cracking open a beer and gonna find out now.
Edit: long haired musicians... mind blown
Keep going with Supertramp. There’s a lot more greatness to discover. In my opinion, Crime of the Century was their best album. I would recommend School, Asylum or Rudy but there are no bad songs on the album.
Hide in your shell is far and away the best song on that album!
@@brandonhaygood5286 OMG thank god I saw this comment !! I LOVE Crime of the century. I thought that was their best album..I guess I know now ..
Few bands sing with the emotion of SUPERTRAMP. Always make me feel good.
Definitely check out "Bloody Well Right" when you come back to Supertramp.
REACTION - your reaction to this song is an example of the very best that could be expected from a reaction!
Everyone loves this song.
Supertramp sounded spot on the same live as they did in studio. I saw them in 1979 maybe the best show I've ever seen.
When you get older, you might look back and feel you didn't do enough in your life but you aren't here to fulfill anyone's agenda. You have to love yourself for just being yourself, here and now. It's fine. Just enjoy.
Really! Ultimately, did I bring more love instead of hate into the world and did I have a good time?
Thank you for saying that! I'm an old lady now, however when I was younger people would ask me what job I do and I'd say"Im just a mum"! They would say DONT say! I've learnt that EVERY job is important no matter what it is! Sorry didn't mean to sound so deep! Lol! Supertramp is an AMAZING band! Take care and stay safe! From Australia.
"When you're up on the stage it's so unbelievable, oh unforgettable... how they adore you." There is no higher "high" than captivating an audience, whether in performance or public speaking. Such an amazing line.
Of all the young people reacting to this song in particular, I have been WAITING for one of them to make the connection that the ending sounds like a train pulling into a station. Kudos, young man.
I have followed Supertramp since the early 1970's. One of my country's greatest bands.
Hide in your shell is my favorite Supertramp song!
70’s music was top notch! And one of them were Supertramp. They were darn right, too have Super as part of their name. Ohhh the youthful memories! And just, too make it even more perfect Jovaughn doing a reaction.
Great song! Your analysis is spot on. Like the old saying goes: "We are too soon old, and too late smart." Thanks for playing it...one of my favorites.
Unique group. Versatile music. This group is underrated for sure.
Supertramp School. Is an amazing song.
Your grasp of artistic expression is so impressive. This is one of my favorite bands next to ELO.
Welcome to one of the premier prog rock bands of the 70s! The 5 albums they released (4 studio, 1 live) from 1974-1980 should be part of any classic rock collection!!! Two lead singer/songwriters, Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies, are 2 of the most prolific of that time period. You should hear, "School" next!!! 💙
And the lonesome train whistle vanishes in the distance … ☺️☺️☺️
“Breakfast in America” is truly one of the few perfect albums in popular music history. Happy tears all the way.
Supertramp = Supergroup Musical Geniuses!
Dreamer and Breakfast in America are the two standout songs from Supertramp for me...
Find an open desert road... Set the cruse-control for 70 MPH.. plug in some Supertramp... crank the Volume WAY UP...! and the miles just roll by... : ) : ) : )
♥️ Supertramp. Can you react to Brothers Johnson (Strawberry Letter 23) Please. You will love it.
Yes I like that song
Love.
That entire album is fantastic! ☺☻
Love your reactions ❤️
I can’t be in a bad mood listening to my beloved Supertramp. They do get credit. They were huge when I was younger
Growing up hearing them on the radio never bought any of their music. I was into harder music. Hearing them now they are a lot better than I thought. Very cool music
Patrick Perry I have bands like that to. Not my vibe being young but, you hear them when you’re older, you get it.
Raven there are quite a few bands I didn't take the time to really listen to. It's almost like finding music
Give A Little Bit. Please do this one. You will love the message of this song.
Yes it is!!!
Great message that is-
Discovered them in the 70s and I was wonderfully perplexed at what I was hearing. It was so eclectic and fresh sounding.
I'm so grateful to have grown up listening to these songs.
I’ve heard this song literally 1000 times but you made it new for me again thank you 😊
I don’t know if I ever really gave any Supertramp songs my full attention before. They definitely deserve it! My favorite part of this song is the harmonica. Incredibly controlled playing! That is not easy. Thank you for this!
Back to the 70's, I feel so lucky growing up in this era of fantastic music 🎶 ❤
Supertramp always reminds me of my baby brother who passed away in 2008 at the young age of 46. He loved them so much. They are indeed a great group! Glad you’re enjoying them, JV! Great reaction! 👍
Another OMD song is "If you leave", (from the 1986 film "Pretty in Pink"). The film title comes from the song "Pretty in Pink" by Psychedelic Furs.
If you think you are hearing two different singers between this song and Goodbye Stranger, you are right. Roger Hodgson on this lead vocal, and Rick Davies on the lead in Goodbye Stranger. Both excellent!
The way they do it is called "talent". There was musicianship, meaningful lyrics and a love of the craft.
My favourite Supertramp song. And that's saying something, because they have so many great songs.
As a teenager listening to this song, I used to imagine if my life would be like this. Now I'm older, looking back, I know much of it was. Thank you for reacting to this amazing song from an amazing group.
I was watching your face when the harmonica kicked in at the start -- because I KNEW it was coming -- and I wasn't disappointed. Great reaction to a great song and excellent band, man!!
Oh the memories are flowing with these Supertramp songs!
Describes my life!
Their songs are a paradox. The lyrics are down but the music is so cheery, almost carnival like.
I haven’t heard this song in a long time!
Man I played this album over and over.
Breakfast In America was the 8-track that everybody I knew had in their car/van in 1979-80. We knew all the words to every song - it was huge!
Oh such a golden Nugget 🤩. This is probably one of my favorites. Love taking the long way home after work day. Decompress from work before get the rigors from home.....ME TIME 🤷. Instead of calgon taking me away....give me good tunes to melt stress away 😏
Have the albums. My daughter now plays them. :) my 2yo granddaughter's fav artist is David Bowie. :)
At that age they have no filters.
One of the most beautifully sad songs in rock. I always kind of thought of supertramp as like a rock symphony of soul.
Hide in your shell. Can't recommend that enough. Probably their most underrated song
Wonderful song and wonderful reaction!
Thank you
Glad to see you appreciate SUPERTRAMP Jayvee. To me of all the great songs by this group, this is my favorite. You never know what to expect by these guys in all their songs, so creative in their use of various instruments. The album BREAKFAST IN AMERICA came out in the United States in 1979 and on Billboards chart became number one for 6 weeks. A couple of other songs by them worth a listen are, BLOODY WELL RIGHT, RUDY AND SCHOOL.
Please listen to The Rose by Bette Midler. Can't wait to see your reaction!
This song was on the radio so so so much when it came out!! The music we took for granted !! 💜🥰
One of the greatest!! 🎸🍄🎸
Incredibly sad song. His life is so messed up... his wife doesn't even care about him. He doesn't even want to go home, but he has to eventually. So... he takes the long way home.
Though I get the impression it's messed up due to his own actions. The first couple of lines indicate that he's got this delusion where he's some kind of big shot, and I think Roger Hodgson himself said he's basically living in a fantasy world, and he's taking the long way home to avoid facing reality.
Rasputin - Boney M
Synchronicity II - The Police
Wouldn't It Be Good - Nik Kershaw
YEZZZZ, all the one's I luv too!
You hit it right on the head, they always put me in a good pensive mood. Timeless
"School" and "Give little bit" best song Supertramp!...💣👍from Italy. Bye..Ciao
It's Raining Again By Supertramp is a good one to listen to as well. Love this group!
"Give a little bit" and "It's raining again" would be my suggestion for more Supertramp.
Your reactions are really thoughtful and sincere which is why I subscribe. Thanks for doing supertramp they're legends in my opinion.
Awesome song heck yeah. Enjoy. Thanks.
I love Supertramp. One of my faves.
Excellent
Another great song! You're on a roll!!
One of my favorites... a sad song but so true in so many cases. The song & lyrics are awesome. Supertramp was a great band with some unforgettable songs. Thanks for taking me back...
YES!!!!!!! A masterpiece!!!!! So layered, so rich, with ebbs and flows. So refreshing to see you appreciate them. You're going to LOVE their catalog. You won't be disappointed with "Give a Little Bit", "Dreamer" (the "Live in Paris" version... this was the one played on the radio back in the day and is the BEST version), "Hide in Your Shell", "Fool's Overture", and "Just Another Nervous Wreck" .
4:38 "though you feel that your life has become a catastrophe, it has to be, for you to grow boy" - so deep.
Another killer track from Supertramp love you
Sorry to change the subject but before Motown Monday, I've just watched the most wonderful clip. It's titled Cher and the Jackson 5 I want you back medley live from Cher's T.V. show in 1975. They sing a lot of the Jackson's big hits, and Micheal does some dancing too!
Jovaughn, You're going to have to revise your top 10 group list from a few months ago. Yes, this group was somewhat underrated.
they're brilliant
I have to say that I love your channel, it's so fun seeing some of my favorite songs (like this one) through the lense of someone who has never heard it. If you take requests - I'd LOVE to see your reaction to Tom Waits - Tango Till They're Sore. :)
Supertramp always delivered.
I love this one because of the harmonica. It adds a fun aspect to the song. ST not my favorite group, but they do have some good songs.
I LIKE THIS BAND SO MUCH,
GREAT SONGS 🔝💯🔝
