I remember my early Thailand travelling days (1991 onwards), when there was no internet, and you had to find things out for yourself, rather than ask other people or search engines for recommendations. OK, I made some mistakes, and I learned from them, but it was a far better way to travel, and there was a sense of adventure that a lot of travellers today don't have.
Hahaha that was me in 1998, clueless. On deployment just spent 5-months either at sea or camped out in the various deserts in the Middle East. Then we go to Phuket. It was a complete shock. Straight out of movie with girls at the pier smiling, waving and shouting "Hi, G.I."
I first came to Thailand 1978 I was 21 blimey it was a different world I'd come from England cold November to red hot and humidity which I never experienced that server, loved the place straight away
Last time i was in Pattaya i noticed that the hotel staff called my room everytime a girl left after the night was over . This was verry polite and proffesional of them to check if i was fine and nothing bad happend cause these things do happen where guys get drugged and robbed .
The pharmacy on Soi Diana opposite Areca Lodge is very good, have been there many times and never let me down. Just use Bolt wherever you are going if you can, it's better than some of the options and experiences I have at home. I have never in all the times I've been there done everything I plan to do. Everyone knows I go to Pattaya, most know what I get up to and I couldnt give a fook if they approve or not. It's my money, my time, my life etc and I will do what I want with it. I'm too old now to care what others think :)
Hi Trev, I just got home to Oz after 4th trip to Thailand but 1st trip to Pattaya for 6 nights and it was fantastic. I met Dean (great bloke) at the Dive Bar and asked after you but you where at home doing this vid. I know there are things to be careful of but I had no troubles at all. I met beautiful ladies (3day rule - check), ate great food with locals, Hilton Sky Bar, Soi 6, Soi Buakhao, Walking Street, drank lots of beer, first time on a motorbike taxi, Naklua fish market, the list went on, and yes I broke some rules but, knowingly with no regrets (yet). Saving up again and will be back next year. Thanks for your great show!
tips after 16 years and about 30 tours 1. have a $10 scam allowance, i.e little rip-offs happen all the time, just laugh and think of your $10 and don't get in an argument or you may get beat up. 2. bring cash and only take out what you want. I've found the room safes pretty good and exchange rates on cards etc are up to a 10% tax 3. Bolt taxi is the go. very cheap and the fact is, so cheap I tip them another 30%+. and I'm a cheap charlie 4. if you are old and ugly but have some money, it's not true that all of a sudden you are handsome. you are still somewhat ugly, your money is handsome 5. be respectful at all times, you are a guest of the Kingdom 6. tip the beggars a few baht each day may 40-50. gives them a small meal etc 7. take travel insurance
There really isn't anything weak or wrong about having a few soft drinks during your evening drinking. The temp is high and you'll probably be dehydrated, so booze will have a stronger affect than it would back in your cooler home country. On top of that the bars are quite happy making their money on soft drinks instead of beers, plus the girls really don't care (they probably prefer you not to be paralytic). Your drinking buddies may try pulling your leg about it but you'll have the last laugh if they're sleeping in a corner/shop doorway or worse, and in the morning talking loudly with a clear head to your mates who all have killer headaches is even better for leg pulling... Plus you're much less likely to make a LB mistake 😁
My number 1 tip. Drink enough water. Water, water, water. With the heat, humidity and alcohol you will get dehydrated very quickly and you will get sick. Doesn't mean you will end up in hospital, but it can lead to a few days in bed. No fun on your holidays.
Hi Trev - Cash - I always brought / bring my Debit Card from England with me. For Example - a Flex Plus Account with Nationwide (other banks are available) they do not charge for Overseas Withdrawls - I always use one of the main bank ATM's and the fee from the bank I think is better than having a wad of cash. One thing I always did / do is go out early evening / late afternoon to the bank, withdraw the cash I want to spend for the night, then take my card back to hotel and leave in the room safe - so I already am only carrying cash & I know what my spending limit is for the night. Just my personal approach - but works for me.
As you said, don't make plans if you are visiting Pattaya. A wise man once told me life is change so "Don't cast your plans in stone, cast them in jelly (JellO in the US) subject to immediate meltdown and recasting.". That is live in Pattaya in just a few words. Goood video mate. 👍
Bolt is really fantastic for the consumer. GPS to overcome any language barriers, you get the model, color and license plate of the car so you can easily spot your ride. I understand the rates aren't too great for the drivers, so I always try to round up abit and decline any change.
Cheer's Trev, great advice. Had to laugh at the "don't make plan's", i had plan's on going to Thailand but now I'm having to move in to my dad's house and give up work to look after him. Another great start off the year but hey ho. Lol Cheer's Trev for all the videos and advice, you really do provide great advice and i 100% truly enjoy all your video's and live stream's.
Opened a Charles Schwab checking account before I went to Thailand last year. They will refund you any ATM fee you are charged from any bank at the end of each month. Used it in Bangkok, Phuket, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, and Bangkok. Never had a problem using a machine or getting my ATM fees refunded.
I understand the authorities are cracking down on Bolt and there are Police road checks for correct insurance and licences. Starting to get a bit more difficult to get Bolt, especially at busy times? Mostly applies to cars and not bikes?
the ba baracus part was funny but so true no matter where you go. the A team. alot of what you said is just common sense but alot of people just let it go out the window so to speak. great video
I used revolut when i was in Thailand in January.worked a treat.ive used the UK post office travel card before and in some places it wouldn't work like 7/11 and some restaurants but i always carried cash just in case. Cash is king
Read the fine print with Bolt. I've been in Pattaya for a few months already and have had prices change from the app quote for a variety of reasons. One is the "toll fee" add on for the ride to or from the airport. The driver agrees to a set price and then asks for more; they can and will do this. The terms and conditions even say the price can change from the quoted.
Some great advice there Trev. I first went to Thailand in 1988 and pretty much ticked off every mistake you listed. You bought back some great memories though.
i used bank of america they have a branch there in Bangkok. if your traveling from the states its best to go to a branch near you and have a sit down with them to explain rates and how everything works . BOA is in the crc tower in bangkok
I had my first trip to Thailand in March of last year, spent a few days in pattaya, koh samui, krabi, phi phi islands and phuket majority if people I know where saying enjoy yourself and all that but there was quite a few others who as soon as I mentioned pattaya you could just tell they were instantly judging. Funny story one of those who was judging split up with his partner not long after and first thing he did was book a trip to pattaya 😂
I don't understand what gives the right to people who criticise others for how they lead their lives as long as everyone is over the age of 18 and who are not forced into doing anything live and let live life is too short
Yeah mate sounds about right to me I use a lockable security pouch in my hotel safe for money and never had an issue. Some people just have a big problem with guys that go to Thailand so you can expect some backlash if you tell your mates.Speaking from experience.
B. A. Baracus was played by the actor Mr. T on the series The A Team. Fun fact- Mr. T began wearing all the gold starting in the late 70s when he was a bouncer in Chicago. People who needed to be removed sometimes forgot their gold, or were so intoxicated that after being expelled, they neglected to pick up their gold from where it had fallen outside.
I'm sitting at home waiting for January when I'll be heading to Thailand for 3 months and as you say about the lady boys the amount of people who haven't been further than the end of their street become experts on Thailand and ladyboys. I play right up to them and tell them I'm in a relationship with one, the give you the strangest of looks, I've had a few good nights out with them both us know nothing going to happen were just 2 people going out for a good laugh and having a chat plenty of blokes d9 it. As I don't drink quite a few of your tips don't apply to me, they are useful for the new people coming to Thailand. I enjoy your podcasts I'm even thinking of going to pattaya haven't been for 20 years so it will be interesting to see 😊
RE: Drinking, my mate passed out on the buzzin crawl due to not pacing himself, the staff at the bar were great and ordered him a Bolt. The bolt driver however did take advantage of him and take a few K baht off him and drop him nowhere near the rest of the crawl. Took me an hour to find him in his drunken state but all ended well. Regarding your last point my mate told a LOT of our coworkers while I had kept it mum.
for what its worth, a police check point usually set up on beach road near soi 9...spot on about the plan making, usually doesnt work out for me as i find it easier to just go with the flow of each day
I’ve heard you say don’t tell people a few times. I tell everyone lol! Idc what people think personally. Most of my friends want to hear the stories and then tell me they want to go as well. I’m in a relationship now but before then I went Tiger Woods out here man. 😂🤣. I’ve loved Asian women all my life but here in the states, where I’m from, they are hard to come by. Believe me, I made up for lost time a few times over I think. 🙂🙃
Good tips Trev. My top 3 would be... Hotel safes can be opened by anyone. Close it, so they think it is being used, and put something useless inside, like an empty carrier bag. Put your money somewhere else e.g the safe in reception. Scooter is a very good idea, because the rules of the road are non-existent, and anything can happen at any time, and it usually does. Bolt taxi's are the way to go. Download the app, get the price, push the button and bingo. You can make most local journeys for around $2. Sorted. Or the baht bus is just 10 THB. No need for a scooter.
Great stuff. Wise Card, recommend that for sure. Cash, get a money clip and a small zip up card sized wallet. Put your coins 20, 100 and 500 Baht notes in that little wallet along with the blue pill and a rubber thingy. Put any 1000 Baht notes in the money clip, keep that apart from the wallet. Thailand is a cash society, muscle memory for most is the trusty debit card. So suddenly packing a bundle of notes…. Not great, and you really don’t want to be routinely whipping out your wedge wherever, whenever. Trust me, I learned this the hard way. Remember a bar girl is a consummate professional, it’s a business. Most will weigh you up within 30 seconds never forget that. Make small talk but give away little, smile plenty and be humble. Enjoy + Be safe 🙂
Thanks Trevor. I have been planing on a visit for the last year . I hope I can get there next Feb . I just do not know how long to stay . One week in Bangkok and 4 weeks in Pattaya .
@@Buzzinpattaya good point . At first I was thinking of getting a condo for a month in Jomtien ( save money) but then what if I do not like it . I'm stuck .
I am going for 3 weeks end of April, I've booked 7 nights in pattaya, if the weather forecast is good I may go to an island for a few days, if weather is bad possible go to hua hin, then maybe a train to chiang mai, easy to book hotel day before on agora etc and cheaper than walk up prices, so easy to travel in Thailand, no need to plan anything
Hey brother was great meeting you last year - watching all your videos have inspired me to start a small Channel for my travels - any advice and guidance appreciated- keep rocking brother 🙌 hope to get back and do another Bar Crawl soon
Him mate that's fantastic and wish you all the best. I'm not in a position to offer advice as I am always learning myself but for what it's worth be you, be yourself and don't panic about making mistakes.
@@Buzzinpattaya Thank you brother - trying to make it back this summer - hopefully we can touch base again - I’ve been making a lot of mistakes LOL but I’ve had a great time trying and learning
Very interesting and useful advices for all novices coming for the first time to "sin city". Police are just doing their job.... ( exactly ...mostly trying to extort money from tourists )
Nice one Trev. I would like to add one more if I may. Wear protection. STD is on the rise in Thailand, so be aware, play it safe and wear a cover. Stay safe and healthy m8
I’m planning my first ever solo Pattaya trip this April. I’ve up saved up $7k USD to spend on a 2 week stay. I am wondering if I should bring the bulk of my money with me in cash to avoid having to pay excessive ATM/bank transfer fees in Pattaya. On the other hand, I understand that most hotels there have secure safes in hotels to store your valuables, but I am worried that on perhaps one night I’ve had too much to drink, I might forget to store my money in the safe and the girl that I’ve brought back to my hotel room steals my valuables (e.g., cash, wallet, cell phone, etc.) Please advise what the smart way to go about this dilemma. Thanks!
Using an ATM costs 220 baht ($7). You can withdraw up to your daily limit back home in baht. On the room safe, just make sure your guest doesn't know the PIN or where the key is. My tip is have a Plan B. Copies of passport/insurance on paper/phone etc
That amount of money for two weeks is insane but hey one thing is guaranteed your in for one hell of a fun time....just keep ya money safe mate, and not in view of any potential guests
@@Buzzinpattaya I only get two weeks of vacation a year and I usually don’t splurge like this. I just turned 40, I’m single. I stumbled upon your channel and video clips of the bar girls on Soi 6…by God, I’ve never seen so many beautiful women grouped together and available at your beck and call. Pattaya is literally Disneyland for single men!
@@argonaut816 Are there any specific bank ATMs that are safe to use in Pattaya? I’m heard of fake ATM machines that are set up to look like real ATMs so that once you insert your bank card and input your PIN number, it has all your info to withdrawal funds from your bank account.
Hey there. I am new to your channel and hopefully will be traveling to Pattaya within the next year. I love all your videos. I just joined Discord. So I’m wondering how to get it linked to you? Thank you for your time Kevin.
Bolt is definitely the way to go, the only problem is making sure you know where you want to go, so you might need to put a close place when you book on the app.. And I don't know of any ridicule from mates they all want to come with me on my next trip, so I think you can scrub that off your list.
You mean the A-Team?! I skipped my homework for these guys watching on TV. We had Black & White by that time in 80s. But I loved the Faceman and for the sake of George Peppard I would smoke a cigar.
Hey Trev. Just started watching the video but had to comment, and you were only on the second item. 😂 Flaunting money and jewelry is asking for trouble no matter where you are. I lived in The Bronx years ago, and you are asking for big trouble if you are decked out in your gold jewelry and Rolex. Be aware of your surroundings, and don't get pissed. And BA Baracus was Mr T from the A Team.
When I tell my male mates I'm off to Thailand (I never specify Pattaya 😂) they usually say the same thing along the lines of bar girls and ladyboys, I just tell them that if the first thing they think about when someone says Thailand is hookers and ladyboys then that says a lot more about them, than it does me, I then give them a lecture on the beautiful beaches, amazing temples, food and culture, how friendly the people are compared to most of the UK, all the amazing stuff you can get up too for insanely cheap prices compared to other countries. Of course I'm off to bang everything that moves on Soi 6 and LK, but stuff them. As for my female friends, they're actually less judgy , they know I'm a serial dater here, so they know I'm not going to behave there either, they respect that, they respect my reasons after 18 years in a loveless marriage. I agree on all your rules/tips except the three day rule ... Short time only for me ... Two hours max simply because Pattaya has so many stunningly beautiful people, why stay with one for three days when the next bar/mall/7-11 has someone just as hot and fun . Variety is the spice of life and I'll be there in 19 days and time, not that I'm counting. Ladyboys are rarely looking for a confrontation, they know they'll not appeal to everyone, just laugh it off and say no thanks, I'm off to meet friends, just treat them as you would any other girl, get arsey with them, they'll get arsey with you, but remember who started it once those stilettos start flying in your direction 😂😂😂😂
That must be a UK thing because I have been coming to Thailand for 30 years now and none of the many people who were made aware of my travels has ever had anything negative to say about it (I’m from California, USA). Still, I would say that those were all pretty good tips - at least for the typical Pattaya visitor. By the way, can someone tell me what the heck “gels” are?
@@SLOBeachboy I don't think people making assumptions about Pattaya is a UK thing. It's the same in Australia. The town was built on a reputation, and most people know what it is. It's only negative for Puritans, but sadly we have Puritans amongst us!
How much hassle would it be to bring an injection ED med over from America? It’s Rx, but I worry about the syringe aspect. Can you purchase disposable syringes at a local pharmacy?
My daughter is currently visiting London with her Thai friends. Despite all the warning one of the girls was robbed on Oxford Street! At midday, surrounded by a gang of 'foreigners' (she believes to have been gypsies?)( Romanians?) The girl felt her purse being dipped! She caught the 'hand ' and the money was immediately passed to an accomplice! My daughter gave chase but they were away into the side alleys! No one even bothered to assist! People just watched! A well practiced crime and my daughter lucky to not get stabbed for reacting! Police--forget them! CCTV ? You are joking! This is an everyday event in London. Maybe even worse than it is here?
So sorry for this mate and for the love of god please not matter what instinct kicks in NEVER chase as quite often around the corner they leg it around has a couple members waiting just in case. Am so sorry mate.....
@@Buzzinpattaya Thanks! I was happy to give her a telling off this morning on the phone! As you say, could have been much worse! Her friend was just leaving a shop with her purse open, walks into a crowd waiting to cross the road and?? B30k in Sterling taken!! Gang operation for sure!
How many bars actually accept card payment? I have a wise travel card and Google pay set up but still expecting I will need to bring lots of cash to avoid atm and currency conversion fees.
The last one tickled me. My mate's wife thinks I'm a major perv and a bad influence on him. Doesn't realise that he's far worse than me and always was.
"Don't let that distract you from the fact that in 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.".
Can you do a full video on thai phrases to use on women and locals, also what to be listening for when a local is plotting to get over or harm your wallet
I have a question about massage parlors. If you remove your pants, does your wallet go missing? Do you just carry money, and a copy if your passport? And on the topic of Hotel safes. If you stay at a nicer hotel does that mean the safe is better/more secure? Or do you leave your passport and wallet behind the front desk in their safes? I'm wondering if they have extra keys anyway, you know, just in case? Thank you.

I enjoy your podcasts I'm even thinking of going to pattaya haven't been for 20 years so it will be interesting to see 😊
Nice one mate, spot on!
Pacing is always advisable, sorry he was taken advantage off when he was dropped off.
@@Buzzinpattaya All good he learnt his lesson, we'll be back in June lol
Your still the best blogger Triv . Most of the other ones are all amateures
Thank you I just try my best
Love the info. 😊
Thanks mate much appreciated
Trevor, great vlog, heard you say this many times but you are always entertaining!
Thank you very much mate
A+ mate. Love the videos
Thanks 👍
Sweet for the tips Trev 🍻👍🏻
Thanks 👍
for what its worth, a police check point usually set up on beach road near soi 9...spot on about the plan making, usually doesnt work out for me as i find it easier to just go with the flow of each day
Yeah they do stand there as ya said mate cheers
Love this advice!
BTW BA Barracus is from the A-Team played by Mr. T in the 80s TV series and by Quinton Jackson in the movie. 😁
Nice one mate thank you
like in PI the local boys in brown get very active around the end of month when their pay has finished and it's close to payday
Gotcha
I’ve heard you say don’t tell people a few times. I tell everyone lol! Idc what people think personally. Most of my friends want to hear the stories and then tell me they want to go as well. I’m in a relationship now but before then I went Tiger Woods out here man. 😂🤣. I’ve loved Asian women all my life but here in the states, where I’m from, they are hard to come by. Believe me, I made up for lost time a few times over I think. 🙂🙃
Haha brilliant mate
I love that pic of you in the background with the sunglasses! Happy days! LOL
The best!
Nice one mate thanks for sharing your experience with us
As for cash I bring my own safe. It is a hollowed out shaving can made for this purpose. It works great. You can find them online.
Brilliant mate
Loved up and flustered lol. I've scratched my head and felt flustered a few times in pattaya, why ?. Loved up that's why lol
Haha all good
Hey Trev , very sensible advice buddy , great video as always. ,thx , I am hoping to return this year ✌️✌️
Thanks mate and hurry back
Great stuff.
Cheers mate
Good point about London and NYC also posing some risks.
Cheers
Thanks Trevor. I have been planing on a visit for the last year . I hope I can get there next Feb . I just do not know how long to stay . One week in Bangkok and 4 weeks in Pattaya .
Don't make plans, visit an area stay until you feel your done and move on
@@Buzzinpattaya good point .
Hey brother was great meeting you last year - watching all your videos have inspired me to start a small
Channel for my travels - any advice and guidance appreciated- keep rocking brother 🙌 hope to get back and do another Bar Crawl soon
Thanks for sharing
My friend said her bar in soi7 is allowed to open until 3am, stupid how some places can open until later than others
Yeah is a mess at the moment
Thank you Trevor. Plenty of good information.
Very welcome
Can you buy Antibiotics from the pharmacies without having a prescription? What about over the counter painkillers like Ibuprofen or Tylenol?
Yes, bought Amoxycillin many times, just ask no prescription required
Yes mate no issues
Last point was the best..... best way to end a video.... I had a laugh 😆 lol thanks Trev.....
Haha cheers mate
Great advice TREVOR ie street vendors when im trying to sleep on the beach chairs
They get right on my nerves
Nice one Trev. I would like to add one more if I may. Wear protection. STD is on the rise in Thailand, so be aware, play it safe and wear a cover. Stay safe and healthy m8
Great shout mate
@@argonaut816 Thanks so much!
Great content Trevor very humorous just have your wit's about you and common sense thanks
Thanks 👍
Good advice to pace yourself on the booze. Also drink bottled water in between drinking will help in the morning.
Thank you very much

Right on. Def. gonna have to be disciplined on 3 day rule. Dangerous stuff! lol.
and costly mate haha
Hey there. I am new to your channel and hopefully will be traveling to Pattaya within the next year. I love all your videos. I just joined Discord. So I’m wondering how to get it linked to you? Thank you for your time Kevin.
The Discord server is Buzzin so you area already in the right place
Bolt is definitely the way to go, the only problem is making sure you know where you want to go, so you might need to put a close place when you book on the app.. And I don't know of any ridicule from mates they all want to come with me on my next trip, so I think you can scrub that off your list.
It's very good like you said
You mean the A-Team?! I skipped my homework for these guys watching on TV. We had Black & White by that time in 80s. But I loved the Faceman and for the sake of George Peppard I would smoke a cigar.
Hahah yeah that's them
family asked if i was gonna come home with a wife, like that was the only reason to going :o
Lol so typical
Hey Trev. Just started watching the video but had to comment, and you were only on the second item. 😂
Flaunting money and jewelry is asking for trouble no matter where you are. I lived in The Bronx years ago, and you are asking for big trouble if you are decked out in your gold jewelry and Rolex. Be aware of your surroundings, and don't get pissed.
And BA Baracus was Mr T from the A Team.
Well said mate and yeah good ole BA haha
Me too! 😅
@@SLOBeachboy I believe the Gels are referring to the cream used to help "enhance performance" similar to Viagra or Cialis pills.
@@terryl5611 Oh Christ! I've been rubbing it into my scalp. No wonder my hair is standing on end.
@@SLOBeachboy I don't think people making assumptions about Pattaya is a UK thing. It's the same in Australia. The town was built on a reputation, and most people know what it is. It's only negative for Puritans, but sadly we have Puritans amongst us!
I always carry a small amount of gold . 15 G . . I'm planing on buying some in Bangkok before I go home .
Leave ya golf at home and buy the gold you wanna take back the day before or on the day you leave
How much hassle would it be to bring an injection ED med over from America? It’s Rx, but I worry about the syringe aspect. Can you purchase disposable syringes at a local pharmacy?
No idea but the last video by Trevor might work also the P Shot.
Yes pharmacies sell syringes
Awesome video again! The 3 day rule is not to protect falang, its because the girl will start to like you. Just leads to problems.
Very true!
Gang operation for sure!
have you seen Full metal jacket- these boots are made for walkin'
These foreigners are doing my head in sorry to hear that. We have lost of country

How many bars actually accept card payment? I have a wise travel card and Google pay set up but still expecting I will need to bring lots of cash to avoid atm and currency conversion fees.
I think probably more than we expect but bank transfer in most
I see you did open up Buzzin Cafe bar congrats
Thanks mate
The last one tickled me. My mate's wife thinks I'm a major perv and a bad influence on him. Doesn't realise that he's far worse than me and always was.

"Don't let that distract you from the fact that in 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.".

Thank you.
Keep ya wallet in your pants and keep your pants under your bed.
before you put your money under the bed check there's no one under the bed
@paulmcfarlane3250 Good advice. I also make sure closets are closed, too.
