I'm traveling to Thailand for the first time in 8 days and I was so worried about how to get around and find my way and this video was an ENORMOUS help! thank you so so much!!
As a Thai, I want to sincerely thank you for creating such a helpful video for first-time visitors to Bangkok. It's a great guide to help travelers find their way. Our country is generally safe and very welcoming to tourists, though, like in any big city, there can be some scams or crime. However, these aren't common. I hope you enjoy your trip and that you'll think of Thailand as a place to visit again and again ❤
VERY IMPORTANT -- this should have been covered on the ATM part! Do not accept the conversion offered by the ATM -- always decline the conversion. The ATM will sometimes ask you twice -- make sure you take your time and decline the conversion both times. Let your home bank handle the conversion. It should only cost you about $5 USD to withdraw cash not $25 -- plus maybe the same $5 by the local bank but nothing exhaustive.
Landed in Bangkok last week and used this video. If you have Tmobile, you don't need SIM card. For cash, just pay the fee and don't be cheap. Get that taxi to your hotel. GRAB is your life here. THEN go explore the BTS and surrounding areas. Just tips from someone who just did it first time.

@@onegreatone2810 Lived here a month now, planning for another 2. As a former United States Marine I can tell you I vastly underestimated my cardio health. It is Houston hot and muggy wet here. Start walking at least 3 miles a day before you come. I shit you not. The girls in bangkok are hot, but Pattaya OMG. Grab App is your life here. You HAVE to have it. Google Translator app goes a long way. Language is currency here. Have additional passport photos BEFORE you leave. SafetyWing for travelers insurance. It's like $50. Onwardticket is the best for proving you're not staying in Thailand. Bookmark and prepare BEFORE you go. I used Todoist to make lists and keep track. Global Entry is something you want for getting BACK IN to the US as well. Gives you TSA Precheck also. If you book through Expedia or a travel agency your shit is fucked. None of that information trasfers to the airlines. I had to manually confirm the seats and TSA# was on the ticket. It's worth calling the airline to verify all information is accurate and use their website as well. Also worth putting internal calling plan on phone during trip. Be sure to enable roaming for data. It's a # code on the phone. I sorted all this out before I left and the hardest thing I had to do was extend my VISA today. Your phone, the data is your life here. It HAS to work. Prioritize that over everything and you always have a lifeline.

The second time I've watched this highly informative video since after doing some research on an upcoming trip to Bangkok, I still had some unknowns that you solved in this video. Highly, highly recommended.
I've been following your videos for about 3 years. Because you presented interesting content and I was able to practiced listening to English too. This clip is awesome, very informative and clear illustrations. I think it should be very beneficial to tourists.
This is possibly THE MOST informative travel video I've seen. Wow! I'm heading to Thailand in a couple of months and this video eased ALL of my arrival concerns. I'm a seasoned international traveler.. but Im a Bangkok newbie. Thanks!! You gained a subscriber.
I'm traveling to Thailand soon, solo, for the very first time, and this is extremely informative and useful and will bring some much needed peace of mind, thank you very much 🙏
I must have watched this video 20 times over before my trip. Easily the best and most informative video out there. It made my first trip to Thailand way less stressful.
I’m Thai. Let make it simple here - the International airport name is called “Su-Wan-Na-Poom”. That’s how locals pronounce. Please ignore those spelling, it makes people get confused 😅
And he pronounced Don "Mueang" wrong. I was raised in Don Mueang and lived close to the airport both of my parents worked there before we move to Australia.
Great video! You are a natural at keeping things simple and not boring with details. This video put me at ease with my upcoming trip. Other videos left me more confused and then talked about scam, scam, scam ! The point where you simply explained the highway tax and needing to cover the driver was great. Thanks
With the amount of crucial information that's provided throughout this video, it's almost impossible to be anymore succinct, thorough, incredibly helpful & entertained. 👍👍👍 HUGE THANK YOU!
Nice vid for beginners. However, PRO TIPS: Health insurance is NOT a requirement to entering the Kingdom of Thailand. Also agree with everyone in the comments. Most important thing about ATM usage is not to take the local back exchange when asked. True has better network coverage than AIS. If you have loads of luggage don’t take the train unless your hotel is right beside a train stop. Seen people trying to do it and it can be really stressful for them.
Don't encourage people not to carry or that they can ignore health insurance before going. A little case of ecoli poisoning will set you back a couple grand if you have no insurance.
@@oSnapMillerTimeRecommended and required are not the same thing. It may be true that on the day that he filmed this the requirement was still in force.
How amazing is this video?!!! I have binge watched countless videos getting ready for my retirement and planed move to Thailand that is only a month away now, but I havent seen any other video as helpful as this. Boss man, just fantastic, especially all the amazing and clear information on the transit. Thanks.
@TheCurtisdavies That's the hope. However, that is easier said than done. I am under 55, so I am going to have to do what I can to bounce around on Visas and all that until I can either regain enough mobility to start a 2nd career or can apply for the full retirement visa. So for now, let's just moving over there for hopefully quite a while.
This is by far the best video I’ve seen to introduce someone going to a new city. Your other videos are also really great, but this is seriously fantastic. Every major city in the world needs to hire you to do a video like this.
I've only been to Bangkok airport one-time landing one-time returning. I found the money exchange better on floor B. Also I think it's the first floor all the way to the right side of the building as you're standing in the entrance there is a street food area inside the building where the food's much cheaper than inside. Also right outside on that end of the building is a 24-hour store for cigarettes or whatever
I was going to mention these 2 tips too! 1) The money exchange booths in the basement with the railink, offer better FX rates compared to the main level. The orange or green "SuperRich" branded FX shops offer the best rates so compare. 2) The foodcourt on the first floor offers traditional Thai food at cheaper prices! It is at the end of the hall.
@@ww3k I regret not leaning airport. I was there over night on my arrival in route to Chaing Rai and 2 nights enroute to USA. I was afraid I'd get lost 😂 I ended up at a Thai friend's home in Phayao for 3 weeks outside of city in village. I could see rice fields and mountains. Very nice
I just have big smiles when I see this guy. I don't even know why but I keep watching this video again and again, I know the airport pretty well by now. Oh well! Chris is the boss. Bangkok is going to miss you man!!
Fantastic video. It took me years to discover the pro tips and tricks that you shared in about 16 minutes. Well done! I am also a Wise fanboy. A real game changer for moving money. The buses are great way to save a little baht, but the taxis have always been a fair and convenient way to get out of the airport for me. Also, remind yourself that you are guest in the Kingdom. Leave your home country's expectations and customs (read: Attitude) there. A smile and a little patience will go a long way here.
The best practical guide to Bangkok I have seen. I have traveled to Thailand many times and I had to learn the hard way. The arrival at the airport is the biggest hurdle. This video makes it a snap.
Wow, just arrived in Bangkok and I can't contain my excitement! This is my third time visiting this incredible city, but it's my first time taking the train to the city center. I have to say, your video guide was a lifesaver! Your tips and advice made navigating the train system a breeze, and I'm grateful for that. The train ride was such a unique experience, and I couldn't have done it without your helpful insights. The sights along the way were breathtaking, and the convenience of the train definitely beats sitting in traffic. Thanks to you, I saved both time and money, allowing me to make the most of my stay in Bangkok.
Chris you’ve absolutely nailed it!!! Easily the best, most entertaining and more importantly concise and informative video l’ve seen on this topic. I had the pleasure of bumping into you briefly outside that wonderfull little restaurant at the corner of Soi 11/1 and Sukhumvit Road last year. You were super friendly and refreshingly humble and it’s no small wonder that your channel continues to go from strength to strength. Take care mate and thank you for all your hard work and wonderful output🙏

What a great and informative video! If I have visitors from abroad coming to Thailand, I’ll definitely share them this video. Thanks for the efforts in putting this together, Chris & Adam. Great job as always! 😊💕🇹🇭
I really appreciated this video. I find arriving in a new country and not knowing how to navigate the situation for those “first things” to be the most stressful part of any trip. This removes all those obstacles. Thanks for the great content.
Chris, I know I won’t be the first one to say this, but I would pay just to hang out with you and experience Thailand with you. As an introvert, I tend to use grab to restaurants or the mall and then go back to my hotel. I don’t necessarily walk around or take the trains. Too much anxiety. But for some reason, your videos always make me feel relaxed. Thank you for always sharing your life with us. I’ll keep going back to Thailand no matter what ❤🇹🇭
Having an anxiety condition is not correlated with being in introvert. Two different things. I have no problem going up to a counter to buy a ticket, or use a machine in a new country. Be brave. Only takes one time to learn.
Awesome video, biggest challenge when travelling international is figuring out how to get situated. Great job in helping ease the fear in traveling in Thailand.
Great video for newbies!….although last year I took my big kids for the first time and they got there SIM cards from street vendors in Phuket @ 250 baht unlimited for 2 weeks which was cheaper than the airport, nice that they taught me something new on there first trip after 16 years of visiting Thailand I thought I knew it all lol😊
OH MY, now THIS is a guide! Going to Thailand in March for the first time and I feel so much more confident! Although I am going to land at 12AM so that’s going to be an adventure but this video definitely gave me the lay of the land!
Omg! You did an amazing job for first timers. My heart is beating so fast just watching you navigating througj all the levels in the airport. I'm planning for Thailand solo but getting a bit nervous.
Great video Chris, with regard to money changing the big four Thai banks never give a decent exchange rate so it is totally worth going down to floor B or changing at one of the Superrich kiosks around town to get a better rate if you're bringing cash; you might also consider a travel money card as you can load funds in THB and the withdrawal fees are usually lower than using your domestic bankcard (i.e. Australian banks charge around AUD$3.50 per withdrawal of up to $2500 per day).
Hello Chris - this was an amazingly informative and helpful video. As another poster commented the Thai tourism authorities should be putting out videos like this to inform new tourists of what to expect upon arrival. As a Thai-American subscriber I am so grateful for your channel!
My wife and I just arrived in Bangkok for the first time. These videos were a huge help! Had a toasty and Leo for the first lunch, everything I hoped it would be!
You can pre-order a rabbit card with 200THB online... collect it on level 4 at the far end of row K... you won't be able to use it on the train for the first leg into Bangkok... which will cost 45THB... but can use when you change to a BTS line
Chris, Thank you very much for this video. Landed 12 hours ago and followed everything in this video and everything went smooth out of the airport and to the hotel in less than and hour via airport line and BTS... The nomad health insurance worked out also ...will be following the rest of your advice during the next 10 days... Thanks again
If you need to exchange currency on arrival and you are also planning to catch the train from the airport into Bangkok, i strongly recommend using the money changers located beside (behind) the train station ticket office. You will get a measurably better exchange rate than at arrivals and they are most definitely NOT out of your way, located in the very same vicinity as the station. To find the currency changers, and there are three of them side by side, walk down the left side of the station entrance slope and then approx 100 metres, as though you are walking toward the Novotel Hotel (which is signed) and you literally cannot miss them. When done making your currency exchange, simply walk 50 metres back to the front of the station entrance to purchase your train ticket. Voila, two birds with one stone!! 😀
@@evananderson4299 These currency changers are all staffed to facilitate the physical changing of foreign cash currency into THB cash. They are not ATM’s. Hope this helps.
@@evananderson4299These are staffed booths to convert CASH currencies. They are not ATM’s or any other automated conversion method. Hope this helps you Evan.
Nobody is mentioning this, but you need to make sure the bills you give them are BRAND NEW, UNMARKED bills. If there is so much as a bent corner, they will not take your bills. They also give you a better rate for 100s than for small bills. As stated in the video, the ATM is cheaper (and less picky).
They may be on the right side as you walk down that sloped ramp, not on the left. 3 of them. Some say they best cash exchange rate than in the city. Use new bills. No torn or buggered ones.
So glad I came across this video, I’m going to Thailand in two months for the first time ever and this is already SO helpful. Will be needing this video when in Thailand, thank you so much! ❤
I’ve recently started planning for a trip to Thailand. I’ve never left the eastern USA and I’m hoping to stay 2-3 months. I have a lot of fears and anxiety (solo international travel)but this video in particular along with your others have been very helpful in reducing my biggest concerns. Thank you for all the help, hope to be there at the end of the year!
I strongly recommend watching geoff carter's youtube channel or greeny travels,I'm from England and have been thailand many times if you need any information just ask, thailand is far safer and more relaxed than my home country
I would advise you to apply for a "Visa Extension" before you leave. You can get one from a Thai Embassy although I don't know if there have been any changes since I applied for my 30 day Visa with a 60 day extension. You can always leave Thailand and do a Visa run but it takes time and it will cost you more than applying for an extension. Never carry more than 4000 baht and never carry anything bigger than 1000 baht notes. Avoid 10,000 baht notes entirely as you can make mistakes at night or in bars.
This is the best welcome to Bangkok video really good. I would only add two things since I’ve been to Bangkok a few times. 1. On the first floor of the airport there is a secret “street food” food court which would save if you are on a budget check out the sign it’s like street food. 2. I would add that it’s very easy to get a bus straight to Pattaya on floor 1 right outside the food court. It goes straight from the airport the amazing Pattaya City in under 2 hours paradise ❤❤❤
Good video again Chris. Just a note for people from the UK. It doesn't cost $5 per withdrawal from UK banks, they're way more expensive. They charge a percentage usually. Best to open an Online bank such as Starling, then there's just the Thai atm fee. Another tip, try yo use the ATMs outside the banks not 7/11s etc. So if the machine eats your card, you can get it back.
@@cal1103 They had losses for the first five years of trading, but got a profit this year. Heavily reliant on the state. Probably more stable banks, IMO.
@Batman Lives Xxx . I'm not on about a bank to invest in. A bank to use whilst abroad to make use of the free withdrawals. I've lived on off in Thailand for 21 year's I've saved a bunch the last few year with Starling. If you don't want use Starling use another online bank like Revolut or any other that offers free international cash withdrawals. I was merely trying to help first-time flyers to Thailand.
Excellent video Chris’ and crew! This is exactly what I do each time I arrive. Excellent advice for a first timer as well. Demystifies arrival. Also if your hungry when you are at the airport, or waiting for a bus, the food court on the lower level is great. So much cheaper than the chain restaurants in the rest of the airport.
Thank you Chris, I went to Thailand,6 yrs ago. There is a lots of new things that I’m not familiar with like the Taxies are more organized .And the choices of trans potations. Good advice Chris
Chris’ channel is indeed so popular that he’s pretty well known in town for it. I’m getting dental at his recommendation and the clinic loops his UA-cam video. I’ve met 3 people in lobby that were also from video. I can emphasize that I’ve found this channel accurate and helpful. My first visit to Asia a big success so far in good part to his videos
Two corrections : 1. atm also charge a 200 baht fee for foreign cards. 2. Cheapest and best sim card deal is go to a normal 7/11 and buy a non tourist plan instead. It's half the price and no difference
ATM fee is 220 baht and last time when I visited Thailand (January 2023) near 7-11's said that the they didn't offer SIM-cards for tourists. I didn't check that because you will be probably ok with free wifi and with Thai GF you have a ways to do things.
One important note on the Airport Link. It only runs between 6:00am and midnight. Flights from where I'm from tend to get in right after midnight, so I've never been able to use this option. The taxis are pricey in comparison, but never had an issue using them. There are always plenty at any time of day or night.
And also after midnight the taxis dont want to use meter and try to scam u for a fixed rate because they know u cant use anyother option like the train, so u get funneled into thier taxi were they charge u high fixed rate that they calculate out if thin air
Good video and contains correct information. I would have liked a little comparison regarding money exchange points at the airport and the possibility to grab a taxi from the upper deck. A Thai SIM card is not mandatory for everyone because there is free WiFi almost everywhere.
This is YT and at times you can't exhaust all possibilities in a video..plus for many travelers these little things like a 5 dollar simcard don't really need any more elaboration. 😅
We just returned from Thailand a few weeks ago. I've been to Thailand many times in my life, but this was the first time traveling with my wife and three kids. The "van" taxi option at the airport was not large enough to carry all 5 of us plus our luggage so we booked 2 separate vehicles. It was very confusing and frustrating to us. If you're traveling as a large family or group I recommend a private driver.
Check to see if there is a Skytrain at the airport, its cheaper, faster and if there isn't, inquire outside the terminal as to which bus goes where you want it to go. Worst case, call your hotel and ask if they have a recommendation for the airport to hotel service. I never take a cab, taxi, tuk-tuk, Uber or private taxi.
This was one of the best travel videos I've ever seen. Such simple topics and yet so important because it answers exactly the questions that everyone has. Thanks!🤗
One thing I would suggest on the currency exchange is that you bring your home currency here if you have those major currencies (i.e. USD GBP EUR Swiss AUD) and go FX booth around Central World. It will be way cheaper than the ATM at any amount.
I usually just take the SIM card stands before immigration .. not so busy and every time I’ve moved through the other stands after immigration no price difference. On the atm s I still always argue don’t swear the small stuff. Thailand is cheap so don’t fret too much over Bank fees. I’m usually arriving at peak times so same reduced stress with queuing for taxis just do the rail. Links from that to BTS are epically smooth. 10 years ago less so buy now rivalling Japan smaller cities and better I would argue than HK.
This is one of the best and most comprehensive vids I’ve watched on arriving in Thailand. Just wish I’d had this before visiting 2 years ago 😄 Looking forward to visiting again soon. Such an awesome city and friendly people.
Very well done. I watch these videos before I move to the next country when I travel. This is probably the best informative video I've seen in 5 years. Thank you.

VERY IMPORTANT -- this should have been covered on the ATM part! Do not accept the conversion offered by the ATM -- always decline the conversion. The ATM will sometimes ask you twice -- make sure you take your time and decline the conversion both times. Let your home bank handle the conversion. Thanks 👍 I better go to Walmart get a t mobile phone then. I'm leaving in September any other advice I mite be getting in a condo for September in Pattaya first week in Bangkok thanks again for your comment
@@onegreatone2810have a good trip. I’m Thai but lived far from my hometown. Getting jealous of you. I don’t have a chance to go back to Thailand yet. Miss my hometown so much.
You can also do the international coverage with T mobile which is $30-$50
Been following Chris for the last 3 years. Helped me come over to Thailand during the panicdemic with all the info on the phonebook of documentation required to come...followed the information and got in without issue. Now living the dream in Thailand, still enjoying the content especially 420....Thanks Chris! Looking forward to the next meet in BKK, I'll be there!!
It was meant to be , My trip begins on the 30th this is perfect !
I'm traveling to Thailand soon, solo, for the very first time, and this is extremely informative and useful and will bring some much needed peace of mind, thank you very much 🙏
Same here 💥 Have fun.
Man… We are heading there next week, perfect timing for this video! 🙌

Wow. This is perfect.
Covering all the bases...
Sawadi cub im thai/Australian but can’t spell thai but can speak time
because it's spell after Sansakrit, duh, not Thai, Thai.
You did a fantastic job of your videos! 😊 I love it.
I love Thailand and the people so much.. been there 3 times and going in 3 weeks again. I appreciate your videos so much brother, thank you 🙏 ❤
Nice vid for beginners.
Thanks.
hi are you moving there for good?
@TheCurtisdavies That's the hope. However, that is easier said than done. I am under 55, so I am going to have to do what I can to bounce around on Visas and all that until I can either regain enough mobility to start a 2nd career or can apply for the full retirement visa. So for now, let's just moving over there for hopefully quite a while.
That was probably the most informative and well presented travel advice video I have ever seen. Thank you!
Hi there how long did immigration take to get through when arriving in bbk
@@mr90s48 looking for that answer myself
Chris you’re absolutely right!! Leo, Singha , Heineken or whatever with a toasted samich at 7-11 is a thing to do !
Used your trick to go threw passcontrol with my Thai wife for 35 years with the Thais ,no problem ,fast ,and they did not even blink at me and processed me like everyone else fast.i have spendt so much time in lines with foreigners for years and year some up to a hour. Thankyou.

As someone who has visited Bangkok a few times this is honestly the best inro video on UA-cam

I went to Thailand last summer, and I everything was so clear to me when I arrived Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Thanks for your video and informations 🙏🏼
Thanks Chris! I've spent hours researching this before coming to Thailand couple of months ago, and you just summed it all up in 15 min.
Thank you so much 😊! Thailand 2024.
Can’t wait to get there. Thanks guys!
Amazing content!! Both the top 10 phrases and this video. Clear and to the point. And entertaining as well. Thank you!
Hands down one of the best videos I've ever seen for travel. Straight to the point, no bs & tons of useful information! Thank you.
Hello Chris - this was an amazingly informative and helpful video. As another poster commented the Thai tourism authorities should be putting out videos like this to inform new tourists of what to expect upon arrival.
As a Thai-American subscriber I am so grateful for your channel!
Hi, can you post their channel? Thankss
So by exchanger you mean a machine for changing USD to baht? Im prolly gonna need an atm im not bringing usd

I don't think it's possible to stay 2-3 months? I think you can get a travel visa for 1 month.
@@surlespasdondine border runs
Aren’t Starling the one’s in financial trouble 😂
@@apuestasfutbol not that i am aware of and i use them. And you find that funny?

Level 1?
Thank you Chris, I went to Thailand,6 yrs ago. There is a lots of new things that I’m not familiar with like the Taxies are more organized .And the choices of trans potations. Good advice Chris
Love all the effort that went into this video, i'm so excited for my first trip to Thailand! Subscribed.
It's half the price and no difference
yep. Just paid 350 baht for 30 days unlimited 4g (TrueMove)

Very important note yes! Airport Rail Link is awesome...if it matches up with your flight.
And also after midnight the taxis dont want to use meter and try to scam u for a fixed rate because they know u cant use anyother option like the train, so u get funneled into thier taxi were they charge u high fixed rate that they calculate out if thin air
99% of hotels near airports have 24hours airport shuttle service just stay a night in a 400-500baht hotel for stress free travel bros
Travelling to Chiang Mai next week for a month and this video summarised everything! By far the best one on UA-cam - THANK YOU!
Good video and contains correct information. I would have liked a little comparison regarding money exchange points at the airport and the possibility to grab a taxi from the upper deck. A Thai SIM card is not mandatory for everyone because there is free WiFi almost everywhere.
Correct information? You are NOT required to have insurance.
This is YT and at times you can't exhaust all possibilities in a video..plus for many travelers these little things like a 5 dollar simcard don't really need any more elaboration. 😅
99 % of hotels have free wifi. Some may be slowish
Im not even going to Thailand but watched this. Fantastic video!
You can hire AOT van from airport. AOT counter is near baggage claim before or booking in advance
How long did immigration take when arriving in Bangkok?
This was one of the best travel videos I've ever seen. Such simple topics and yet so important because it answers exactly the questions that everyone has. Thanks!🤗
Such thorough information for a first time traveller to Bangkok. Thank you :-)
One thing I would suggest on the currency exchange is that you bring your home currency here if you have those major currencies (i.e.
Wait until you leave the airport, you can get a 30 day SIM for 150thb at any 7 11
