ABOUT TODAYS VIDEO: How To Fix Dog's Glands
What your dog needs is something that you can add to their food that will do the job of expressing the glands to release and empty them on a daily basis returning your dog to its natural state and behavior.
Switching your dog over to a diet of raw meaty bones has proven very effective but may not be an option for you. So what else can you do?
Well, I’m getting a LOT of great feedback on a natural product with many dog owners reporting the fiber in this USA made dried apple and pumpkin digestive is getting their dogs anal glands working again normally by firming up stools.
You simply add it to your dogs meals and dog owners report that their dogs love the flavor.
My advice is to pre-mix it with water if your adding to kibble so your dog gets more moisture. The more moisture you get into your kibble fed dog the better.
If serving dry as a topper, make sure to have plenty of fresh drinking water available. And I'll leave a link to the product in the description below.

We just use canned pumpkin puree. Not pumpkin-pie filling (because it has added sugars, cinnamon, etc.) Just raw canned pumpkin puree. Works great! When our Abby goes off it for a week or two we REALLY know quickly. We buy it year-round at the grocery store.

Hi good friend ….. it’s been a while Charlotte had to have teeth removed and went under surgery and antibiotics, as well as always has anal gland issues. Last time she had problems with her anals the vet expressed them except this time the lose strolls with jelly like substance is still happening to Charlotte. I’m starting to wonder can it be from something else? She’s on a healthy home made diet due to her liver shunt . Do you think I should drop off a sample of the stool to her vet? Do you have any ideas what it could be?
That jelly in stools things does happen once a month as part of wall break down and is normal.
Have you done the poultice method yet? the one in the video. This way you ease the glands and allow natural expression. Are stools normally ok?
Hi Dan, I am new to your channel… and was hoping you could help me. My 4 year old chihuahua mix keeps needing to have her anal glands expressed every month on the dot. Idk what else to do to help prevent this. She eats her kibble and I haven’t changed her diet so I am not sure why this is now a reoccurring issue. She never had any issues before. I’m so desperate, any help would be great!
You'll need a two pronged approach here. First is diet, it needs fresh foods in it, not just dry food. And two, you'll need to poultice the glands, get them unblocked, so they can resume normal release with a more fresh food diet helping to squeeze them at each evacuation.
The poultice how to is in the video and here's some diet advice plus supplements etc: Start the diet now, slowly and small to begin with, go gradually, then start the poultice.
If you feed kibble, the best thing to do first is remove 50% of the kibble from the bowl and replace with raw eggs (best) soft boiled (ok) and preferably organic, canned sardines (in plain water with skin & bone intact: 12 Pack Sardines - amzn.to/3vaXrj6), some part cooked and blended veggies like broccoli, kale, green beans, spinach, brussel sprouts, bok choy etc and some meat proteins such as chicken meat, even better but not essential.

I don't have any videos on this. So have they been expressed? Have you discussed removal with your vet? Are thay partially ok?
@@DanScott1 they did a fine needle sample and have sent it for testing to make sure there’s no abnormal cells there, but saliva came out, the lump went down but has since filled up again. So looks like just a blocked gland. He’s had swollen lymph nodes for quite some time and a number of health issues so I think it’s an infection in the body. Giving him colloidal silver and starting vitamin C, I’m trying to avoid removal as he’s been through so much already. Just looking for any possible suggestions.

Thank you Dan i just purchased Firm up Pumpkin. My small terrier mix has trouble expressing his anal glands and unfortunately I don't know how to do it ao i hope this product helps. His poop is always formed not loose but he's licking his rear-end excessively
Hopefully that helps. Use the poultice idea if no real improvement.
Very interesting! I have the issue that my raw fed dog was constipated for the past 2 days and when he was finally able to poop today I noticed that the right side of his rectum is swollen. He started licking it and you can see it bothers him! I thought maybe hemorrhoids caused by the pressure but read that they are not really a thing with dogs, so it might be a blocked anal gland or an abscess. To reduce inflammation and get things moving agian you'll need a compress.
Use Calendula as a compress to soothe and relieve the swelling of the dogs anal sacs. Here's how.
Add 1 teaspoon of Himalayan Mountain Pink Salt: amzn.to/3RhqEnA to a cup of warm water.
Add 10 drops of calendula tincture: amzn.to/3IxeHGE to the mixture and stir to dissolve the salt.
Soak a cloth in the mixture, wring out the excess and fold to make a compress, gently holding against your dogs inflamed anus until cool to the touch.
Repeat the procedure several times daily to try and get the swelling down so the glands can open and drain out the liquid as it normally should.

My dog has one anal gland full and the other is pretty empty(is it normal for just one to fill up after being expressed just a week ago?) I'm so lost and concerned :(
This can be fixed. Ones blocked but the other releases, so not blocked. Several things you can do. Transition diet to something like a raw food diet as the diet helps express the glands naturally and/or Make up a poultice to apply to the glands to unblock them and get them moving again.

The thing is she's fine the whole morning, afternoon and evening. Her butt's dry, there's nothing coming out, there's not even a smell. But at night, especially when she's in comfy sleep I look and there's fluid coming out accompanied by the horrific smell :(
@@huxley8671 You could express them, then do the poultice (important) and hopefully (the pumpkin digestive works) so they express during the day when defacacting.
If you can't bring yourself to do it, use the poutice, use the digestive and get things working again normally.

Difficult to understand your comment, so it's constipation issues? Add some part cooked and blended green veggies to the meal at 10% of meal volume. This will ease things.
@@DanScott1 sorry. Yes. He is ok raw but the company adds a lot of bone. Large pieces and it constipates him. So I am switching to a raw dog food that uses very fine bone meal and will add what you suggested. I think that’s what is causing his leakage. It’s awful and never happened before. I noticed the large bone fragments more recently. It’s the only thing that changed.
