My dog has the interdigital cysts and was diagnosed with Atopic dermatitis. The regular vet put her on Aproquil. When I learned it can cause harm I took her off it. She had huge flareup and shot her with a $200 steroid. I was then referred to a dermatologist Vet who put her on cyclosporine and prednisone. They wanted her on Aproquil and I said no way. Not good. They only suggest drugs, chlorox foot baths. She turned 2 yrs last Oct. I pray these drugs haven't caused harm. I understand they can cause diabetes, Cushings, cancer, etc. I see where none of this is helping her. I'm taking her off all drugs & will try your recommendations. I'm frustrated and no longer will cram these dangerous drugs down her throat. I don't intend on seeing the dermatologist vet any longer either. It's a money grab. I'm on SS and can't afford throwing money away possibly putting my dog in harm's way with these drugs. Thank you for your help.

You need to get the flare up under control so needs the antibiotics (hit hard and fast). If very bad, get onto cortisone). Bath 3 times per week with Malsaseb medicated shampoo lather and leave on for 10m then rinse
thoroughly. Be sure to get it into the joules when the bacteria can grow. Every morning spray with Chlorhexidine 1% (hand sanitizer) mixed 40:60 water and every evening, powder with Dakarin (foot powder, it’s an anti fungal) to keep skin dry over night. Treat the bad areas with Savlon cream or Dermaid. Once under control, bath 1/week and keep up the spray & powder routine. If the hotspots are oozing, wipe off with warm wet cloth and treat with savlon (it’s also chlorhexine hydrochloride) but cream so goes on thicker. I also treat the elephantiasis area with QV bath oil 50/50 mix with water. Massage it into the skin. Dry area around the eyes, I use Dermaid. You’ve also got to keep the ears clean. You need your vet to prescribe ear drops that you can use at least 1/wk. Use a tissue to wipe out the black gunk but be very gentle and don’t try to get everything. The drops will loosen it up and your pup will shake it out.
My GSD is now 8 and has suffered with this for yrs. The flare ups can be very distressing so you must get on top of it. Then regular maintenance is the only way to manage.

Rub the shampoo into the paws. And dry your dog after bath. Use a hair dryer but careful of the temperature. Basically the aim is to keep the skin dry and moisturised, and the inflammation under control. The bacteria and fungi love that damp wet environment on your dog. As for the allergies, the best we can do is manage the reaction.

      Teatree shampoo can help .
It calm's the skin and helps with itching.
Prednison is the last thing I would ever try because it can cause a lot of damage !
Vitamine B12 can also help the skin recover and can't be overdosed or have side effects .
I hope your dog feels better soon

Ikr! I'm over here jumping for joy at coming across this video. I just made 2 quarts of nettle infusion this morning for a friend visiting who had an allergic reaction to something on her trip here and is broken out in hives terribly. I clicked on the video because my dog has a licking issue. It's not just on his feet. It's more he lacks the surface of where ever he is laying at the moment! I was really happy to see natural medicine being used to treat it. Very good info on the cause and the nettle recipe. Ty very much.

Dr. Jones, I recently discovered your channel and am grateful for your courage and conviction to step away from the vet field and not give into the bullies behind the scene. I learned the hard way through the death of my beloved dog Diamond that the veterinary industry is full of lies and go out of their way to lead the public to believe all it promotes about how they care for the health and well-being of our animals. Homeopathic/natural medicine and treatment is the way to go! Keep spewing the much needed information and continue to keep waking up the masses. Thank you!

I’m starting to make all the food for them, we’re in the transition period now. We’re right at half and half. The crock pot makes life so easy and freezing the portions in glass containers with good lids, so I can cook once a week or every other week. I’ve not ventured into cooking for a month yet. Although I have plenty of freezer space. Now I’m collecting all the oils, teas and learning to make salve. My medicine garden this year will be very planned out, then I can harvest and dry different plants we all could Benefit from. Its a dying art. God has given us all we need to stay alive and to flourish. Trust it and use what is being taught. 6:19

Oh, my adult mini poodle (an inch over a toy poodle) is same. He actually licks not just the top of paws but the pawpads. His pawpads are black so it is harder to determine, but between pawpads there is nothing. But I smell pee on back pawpads, when he pees he sometimes steps on it accidentally. I use pet wipes, and i wash his paws only with thin shampoo (meaning more water than shampoo) before a week is over. When dry i use a coconut oil based paw cream. His kibble is small breed lamb and rice, It has no chicken, corn or wheat that are the usual culprits. His treats are tiny cubes single ingredient freeze dried venison or duck, but not even daily,. He is a healthy weight.

It was a pet shop owner that told me my dog had a food allergy after my vet put him on medication that he would need for the rest of his life. Turned out he was allergic to wheat and gluten. I lose all trust in my vet after that. Years later my dog needed an operation for a slow growing MCT, so I went to another vet and they successfully carried out the operation. January 2022 I take my dog back to the same vet that operated on him because of skin flare up on his back paws. This time they gave him a drug called Apoquel but what my vet didn't tell me was, it comes with a warning to not be given to dogs with a history of, or existing tumors, whether they be benign or malignant. My dog had both and my vet knew this to be the case. To cut a long story short, he was operated on for the second time due to the effects of the drug on his tumor, which again was successful, but unfortunately got lymphoma and had to be put to sleep. Do not give Apoquel to your dog if they have ANY lumps or bumps or a history of possible tumors. The after effects are killers.

My dog is a rescue that survived horrible abuse in his first year of life. When I adopted him he would excessively fixate on licking the undersides of his front paws. After settling in to his new life and routine he has quit licking his paw pads. I figure it was a pacifying action like a kid sucking his thumb. Now after 5 years with him he seldom licks his paw pads only when bored.

I took him to the vet.
She put him on Cytopoint monthly injections.
After the second shot he started coughing and fainting.
After the fourth shot he walked outside and died.
Cytopoint killed him by disruption of natural cytokines, that then initiated Lymphatic cancer.

Sorry this happened to you. My dog also died after Cytopoint injections. She developed IMHA where the red blood cells attack themselves. We tried to save her with blood transfusions but it did not work. It was horrific to watch. When we took her to the emergency clinic, the vet asked if she had any vaccinations lately and she had Cytopoint exactly two weeks before that. Vet said that my dog wasn’t the first they’ve seen die after Cytopoint. It’s not a typical vaccine. It disrupts their immune system. I wish I would have researched before taking her in for that shot. I was very trusting of certain professionals before this experience. Not so much anymore. Now, I watch videos like this to find more holistic ways to treat ailments.

Coming from the holistic veterinary field with over 2 decades experience- people need to know as far as that first suggestion with the licorice, it can cause blood pressure issues. So they need to be very cautious in using that or avoid licorice if their dog has been diagnosed with or is taking any medication that can affect the blood pressure.

State found that you can do this so I got a small baby pool or pet pool about 30" diameter .. and put 1 cup of bleach to 10 gals of water and then soak the dogs paws for 15mins... this was amazing and my dogs paws cleared up in less than 2 weeks and believe me when I say they were bad... I felt so helpless.. the Vet where I had taken my dog was really no help at all.. they wanted to do test after test then give me some cream that I had to apply for god knows how long then charge ME $500.00 and I had to do all the work.. I'm like hell no.. there has to be a better way.. and I found this little treatment from a wonderful person who was studying to become a vet,... also wanted to say Thank you so very much Dr.Jones for all you do.. the world needs more people in it like you.. Do you mean that the nail had grown a full circle and was digging into the pad? I’ve only seen that in rescue, very neglected dogs. Please, everyone, check your dog’s nails once in a while and keep them trimmed.

You always have to check the Dewclaws of a dog.
Because their tucked away from the other nails, often they are forgotten.
Dogs can even appear to be lame if their not trimmed.

My dog was also getting these stick like sharp needles stuck in his paws and ears. I think here in California they call them "foxtail weeds". I went on Amazon and after trying a few types of boots that he would not keep on his feet, I finally found a pair with enough Velcro to go around each foot, that he always wears now, everyday when he goes outside! They also might help your baby! You can always return them if he doesn't like them! But, maybe you should give them a try! They helped my guy!😊

I found this on my feed and watched it and took notes on it all. I’ve had such a problem for a few years now with my dog’s hotspots and he licks them and they go bad and he does lick his paws at times. I think he now has the interdigital cyst, like a boil on the side of his digit. I’m going to try the concoction on him and pray it makes a difference before resorting to another vet appt. I need to see if you’ve done a video about itchiness generally not just paws cos I really need to be able to stop my boy scratching, it makes his life miserable I can see it in his face. Thank you so much doc!

I have just found your channel and I am going out to the health food store and buy some ingredients. We have a Patterdale terrier and we have gone through four vets who don't seem to know what is wrong with his paw. He chews it to the point of bleeding and he yelps as well. He has had a cone on for at least 2 years and has had several kinds of meds to no avail.
I am so stressed out about it and feel so bad for him as they can't seem to figure out what's wrong. We don't see any cysts or rashes other than after he has chewed his paw which it can't do right now with the cone. So off to get the meds you talk about and see how he does poor guy.

I sure hope this helps. I went to medicine shops today. The first one did not have the licorice root. But had the lavender oil. On to next medicine shop and they had the licorice root. Make note one will not tell you to go to the other in case they would have it. After spending almost 50.00 for both products, I went to Target and got a gallon of red apple cider vinegar, and the coconut oil. I also went to a Pet Shop. Do you know how hard it is to find a shampoo without oatmeal? I found one that is a Probiotic shampoo. Got home Gave Bella (chihuahua) a bath. Then made the green tea solution and soaked for five minutes. After all of that, I went to clean up and noticed her "licking her paws" So, I laid her on her back and put some newborn baby socks on her! She is now laying beside me and NOT licking her paws!!! The Vet (who looks like the Wizard on the Wizard of Oz movie) gave me 6 months of allergy pills. Yea that didn't work at 57.00 a month! I just ended her 4th month and happened on to you and decided to give the medicine shops the 57.00 instead! ANYWAY stay tuned as I will let you know how it goes. (you might want to block me LOL) Seriously, can you keep the solution and add to it or throw it out each day time you make the solution? And #2 will your pet get sick from licking the solution? #3 why does your dog only lick their front paws and not their back? I got her laying next to me with her socks on. Wanted to give them a few minutes before she starts to lick again. Thank you for your help. I will keep her on this for a month and report back.

It can also be from anxiety, or displaced energy. Sammy Whammy wouldn't let Cody Coyote play with Barney Bighead in the house. She'd yell at them if they were too rowdy, and then we'd yell at her to hush because she had a 93 decibel bark. So Cody would stifle himself and lick his paws. When Sammy passed, Cody stopped licking.

I tried all natural methods which made the condition worth and the lost time… I ended up at the vet, she was prescribed an Animax® Ointment which healed her condition in 4 days. I love holistic approach but unfortunately those methods are quite weak. Wishing all pets health and happiness! And humans as well. ❤❤🇺🇦🇺🇦🙏🙏

If you want to screenshot the 3 reasons/ remedies for your records:
Excessive paw licking: Reason #1 Allergy (food [often a certain protein], flea, atopy, environmental [grasses, dust, cats, us, laundry soap, cleaners, etc] even unrinsed shampoo)... Licorice Root tincture ½ml per 20lbs 2Xday orally, 10-14 days max.
Reason #2 Pododermatitis= inflammation/ infection between pads from bacteria (ie. Staph), yeast ("frito paws"), inflamed (from salt/etc from outside): trim fur if needed, see redness... Use 5 minute tea soak 2-3Xday for 10-14 days= 1cup nettle or green tea, 2 TBS each melted coconut oil & Apple cider vinegar, 10 drops Lavender essential oil.
Reason #3 Interdigital Cyst (lump between toes= bacterial infection): needs antibiotic, natural one he recommends is Olive Leaf extract (capsule) 1-2mg per lb. 2Xday 10-14 days (should see results in 1-1½ weeks) AND soak 2Xday in Chlorhexidine OR Black tea OR Tea/ Coconut oil/ACV/ Lavender oil mix mentioned above.

I have read on many sites that Tea Tree Oil is very bad for both cats and dogs. Unfortunately, of all the toxic scents for dogs, tea tree oil is one of the most dangerous, as this oil is often highly concentrated. Even a few drops of pure 100% oil can cause clinical signs in pets. Deaths have been reported in companion animals following dermal application of tea tree oil.
