    ABOUT TODAYS VIDEO: How To Treat Mange In Dogs Naturally
    There's two types of mange, demodectic mange and sarcoptic mange. Both involve mites that live within your dogs skin and on the surface of the skin and vets will take a skin scrape to determine which of the mites is present.
    In the case of demodectic mange, the mites that normally live in balanced numbers not harmful to your dog and deep within the skin, break out into large numbers, causing baldness and great irritation as hair falls out to leave your best friend in an ugly and uncomfortable way.
    So how do you fix the problem before it gets really out of control and avoid toxic and destructive veterinary drugs like dips, steroids and antibiotics?
    In both instances it's natures neem oil to the rescue.
    Neem oil is one of the best bug killers you can use and is a natural holistic essential oil. It will kill everything from fleas, ticks, ringworm and lice to mange mites. It's also very healthy for skin and hair.
    I've been using neem oil on fleas, ticks, mites and lice for nearly 20 years and it's been 100% successful every time.
    If your dog has generalized demodectic mange, or has patches of sarcoptic mange mites or ringworm, use pure neem oil, but don't use it neat, especially if your dog has cracked or open skin, weeping sores etc. Neem oil is very concentrated and needs to be diluted with a carrier oil.
    Dilute neem oil at a light starting regimen of 1:10 (1 part neem oil to 10 parts carrier oil) with a light carrier oil (e.g. grape seed oil or almond oil). Mix well and then massage the oil mixture into the skin over the affected area. You can apply it daily on problem spots.
    For dogs hot spots, infected bug bites or when treating demodectic and sarcoptic mange and ringworm, it's possible to increase the neem oil concentration to a 1:4 ratio (1 part neem oil to 4 parts carrier oil).

      @@DanScott1 Thanks Dan! I am from India and the Neem oil is widely used here in India as a natural & safe remedy for both humans and animals. One more suggestion for good teeth health for dogs, I have been keeping GSD, Himalayan mastiff and other breeds and I have used neem sticks for my dogs to chew. It cleans their teeth naturally, prevents tartar buildup, prevents bad mouth odour and overall keeps the oral cavity of the dogs clean and healthy. They need not swallow it, it's just that they need to chew the sticks thereby cleaning their teeth in the process. Thanks. Stay safe & healthy. 🙏

      This remedy does soak in and kill mange mites en masse. Mix 1:3, one part neem oil to 3 parts carrier oil, mix and rub in all over and leave on all day befire washing off. Then repeat a week later to catch missed areas and that should be it. After this it's all about diet and adding more fresh foods into the mix.
      ALL those other so called remedies are bad news, especially motor oil, that's insane. Nexguard is poison!

    I knew my 4 month old puppy had mange, bald fur around eyes and a few bare patches of fur on legs, not intensely itchy. So I went to the vet. He told me it was not mange but I was just bathing dog too often (three times a month). I wasn’t going to get through to him that I have had mange in other puppies and this is the typical manifestation of demadex mange. I then came on here and found this video. I applied neem oil three times, each a week apart. It absolutely works. It probably worked the first time but because of the life cycle of mites I figured it’s best to do it for three weeks. No more itching, hair growing back. I was very nervous about putting it near his eyes but I read on here others did. Thankfully it didn’t hurt him and now he doesn’t look crazy anymore. 😂 I soaked him in this stuff. He’s 50lbs and so I used a ton of grapeseed oil 16oz mixed w 8oz of neem oil. I did a 2 to 1 ratio. After he was completely soaked I crated him for the night. I’m so thankful this worked.

    ... he got alot better but was still scratching and biting at his skin. Ended up taking him back in and they said possible mites and tried giving me flea and tick meds which I refused.. also gave me antibiotics again but I did not give them to him. Came across this video and have been using the neem oil .. today is the third time I've used it but it doesn't seem to be helping ... he's still scratching and biting at his fur BUT when I do the neem oil and comb it through there are all these little black specks that come out of his fur... im assuming these are mites/fleas?? He doesn't have any fur loss really or scabs, broken skin or sores .. do you think because it took about 7 weeks for us to figure out what was going on that he could just need several treatments with the neem oil as they're deep in his skin ?? He is on a pre and probiotic as well as a gut soothe product from adored beast... he is just on kibble but a very high quality one with zero additives, and all ethically sourced. Just use the neem oil as directed for any skin mite. Sounds like mites. Several treatments with lower mix ie 2:1 and let soak in for a few hours.
      This could also be yeast issues on the skin from the carbs in the diet. Most kibble is 30-50% carbs. There is a low carb kibble: Ketona Kibble: healthydogforlife.com/KetonaKibble only 5% carbs and all natural additives. To that I would still add eggs, canned sardines and part cooked and blended veggies. Also make sure the probiotic is soil based for the same reason: SBO Probiotics - amzn.to/3yoURqU

I just mixed 1 tbsp of the Neem oil you recommend with 8 tbsp of olive oil and 2 tbsp of coconut oil and rubbed all over my 6 month old English bulldog… (generalized demodex mange) I just rescued him… I’m wondering how long to leave it on? I just received the probiotics (pet ultimates) you’ve also recommended in past videos yesterday and he’s had 2 half scoops so far…have cut his kibble in half and have been adding sardines… cooked chicken n small amounts of cooked beef liver, steamed green beans n spinach sauerkraut apples wild blueberries (fruit all in small amounts)shredded carrot sometimes partially cooked eggs and some raw goats milk and 1x day a small amount of goat kefir…will slowly move to raw food … I feel so bad for him because his skin is so bad, itchy, smelly lots of hair loss… anything else I should be giving him? Anything else I should have vet test for? Like yeast? Also how long does it usually take for generalized demodex mange pups to get their fur back so I have a realistic expectation?

      So you mixed at 10:1. May need a second treatment at 4:1 but wait and see. Leave on for a few hours to really soak in as the mites are deep in the skin.
      Your doing great. Yeast is hard to shift quickly but a diet with zero sugars and carbs will starve out the yeast over 3 months and the skin will stop itching. I'd get some soil based probiotics for this condition and use them first: amzn.to/3yoURqU then when the issues have resolved, use the ones you have now, so seal the lid and keep in the fridg/freezer. Also add some antioxidants to the meals with freeze dried greens: Green Immune + Super food - (GLM, phytoplankton, Microalgae and Spinach) healthydogforlife.com/GreenImmuneSuperfood
      If you can cut out the kibble all together, that would fix things even faster but there's a kibble that's only 5% carbs, the only one I know of: Ketona Kibble: healthydogforlife.com/KetonaKibble so you can use that one and still use your current method of 50:50 dry food to fresh food.
      You can use eggs too, good complete protein food.
      Once the skin is free of mange it will takes 3 months for the hair to grow back.

    Hi Dan, we have an 80lb German Shepherd. He was treated by our vet because he had hurt his toe(probably on an old fence we had with some nails sticking out - a new fence now installed will prevent and future injury and him trying to get to the neighbor's dog). He had licked it raw and very unlike his normal self. When the vet treated the swollen hurt toes, I questioned if everything looked good inside his ears, and was told they looked good. Now 2 months later, his paw is better but we noticed him holding his ears back, not wanting to get up to go out, and not the regular "shadow" German Shepherd that followed us every where Upon checking his ears, he had TERRIBLE debris and crusty scabs. After cleaning out the debris, and soften and cleaning off scabs on his pinnia, I noticed it was even raw in spots around the outer edges of the pinnia and his hair was falling out there. I began to think this was more than ear mites - and determined many characteristics similar to demodectic mange. He has not been showing signs of it itching but drops his ears, especially one that's worse, and just wants to lay around. In consideration that he could have scratched his ears with the hurt toes and spread parasite there, I see how this may have progressed over the past 2 months.
    With the scabs and crusty inner part of his ear - how do you recommend treating with the neem oil & the carrier oil? Should I try to get out the debris and remove the scabs before applying the mixture? I greatly appreciate your instructions to handle treating this properly & not fill his ear canal with the mixture. I'm ordering the neem oil and would appreciate hearing what you feel would be the best carrier oil & correct ratio since this isn't just a exterior infected surface. I greatly appreciate your help!

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  Рік тому +6

      Yes I'd clean out the ears first. You can use warm water and a few drops of lavender mixed in, then dampen a cloth, to keep things clean. Just use the mixture: 1 part neem to 4 parts carrier oil like olive, sweet almond, grape seed oil, mix and apply to all affected parts including in and around ears and allow to soak in. Try a second application a few days later just so you know you got everywhere and it soaked in well as mange mites go deep. Then you can wash off several hours later if needed with mild shampoo only: Oatmeal Pet Wash: amzn.to/3CYUBjw
      That will sort out the problem, hair grows back a month later.

The sores are stabbed and crusted back over worse than when I clean them out to treat him on Saturday. Is this to be expected or could it be something different? He was diagnosed with mange as a puppy from the breeder and we had not seen any mange since using flea treatment that also treated mange. He had a sore paw 2 months ago and this was treated from seeing our vet. I was concerned that maybe he had gotten some of the bacteria in his ear or the mange parasites from his paw. The worst is in ear and the hairs make it not clear to take a picture. The scabs that go to the outer portion of his pinnae can be are visible. The crusting around his ears is where some hair has fallen out. He hasn't shown signs of being itchy and only rubs his nozzle after being treated. Can you give me more advice regarding this? One ear is worse than the other. He isn't himself and seems to be in pain. The vet I've used does more holistic approach than others but she is out of town and 4 weeks behind. I prefer to treat with essential oils or other holistic approaches anyway. Thanks for your advice.

      @DanScott1  Рік тому +4

      @@ritatuten8395 The neem oil treats mange mites and is kind to skin, that I do know for sure. If you have done two treatments and allowed the oil to soak in, then there are no surviving mange mites. Maybe it gets worse for a while then heals.. unless we are dealing with extra issues. Diet also comes into play here as fresh food is needed to heal from the inside, not just kibble as kibble is not complete nutrition in the real world and therefor leads to many dogs poor skin conditions and mange mites.
      You would need to keep the ears clean while improving diet and giving some supplements for gut health as it may be either yeast/allergies or melassezia or both. Is there any yeasty smell to the ears when not treated?

    @DanScott Thank you so much for this video. It is the best one I found after watching about 12 videos today. I noticed some small round red dots around my toy Pomeranian today and got concerned. I reached out to my mom who knows a lot about dogs and she said it is mites so I quickly did a search and came across your video.
    Is there a way to know for sure if it''s mange? I didn't see any photo samples in your video. What does it look like? I think my dog may have it but not sure. I am trying to avoid a vet trip.
    As for the ratio of 1:10, what does it mean? Do you use teaspoons or go by ounces or droppers? As for carrier oil, can it be any kind or are there some that are not safe for dogs? I don't have grape seed but do have fractionated coconut or regular coconut oil, olive, avocado, jojoba, almond, and hemp.
    How often should treatment be done? Daily or just once a week?

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Liz, yes, this is the treatment that works. Mange mites bury deep into the skin and will nibble hairs away causing a small bald patch to begin with ie nickel size. Or there could be some black waste specs around the hair bases. Some tiny red/orange dots moving on the skin can be mites but really need strong eye glass to see them.
      I'd go with 4:1 which is 1 part neem oil to 4 parts carrier oil, any of the ones you mentioned. So that's for example, 1 tsp neem oil to 4tsp carrier oil, mix and apply liberally to affected areas and leave on for a few hours to soak in, then wash off. Run the same protocol 1 week later to be sure you covered all areas. And that's it, no mites and neem is good for skin health too. And it's ok if licked.
      No need for vet.

      Your latest comment does not show, can only read forst part. Sarcoptic mange dogs get from other animals like foxes and it forms bald patcheds that spread outwards. Demodectic mange is inherent in the skin but can 'outbreak' when conditions are bad ie poor health/diet stress etc. That's the essential difference.
      Yes humans can get scabies from infected dogs but just use the same neem oil on your own body to get rid of it.

After taking her to the vet they tell me she has flea dermatitis, even though I have not seen not one flea on her (or in the house) & she's an indoor dog. This doesn't look like flea dirt bc it's stuck to her skin & flea shampoos does not get rid of it. Im really hoping neem oil works.

      Reads like demodectic mange. This will solve that problem but look for it's underlying reason. Could be low quality diet with no fresh food in it. Could be vaccinations issues with auto immune issues, so I recommend zero vaxx. Could be from a current condition sucg as Cushings.

      @@DanScott1 Hi Dan, Thank you for getting back to me. She's scratching and biting with some loss of hair. She's shaking her head often. She has a few hairless areas under her front legs with little brown spots, and on her belly, but the hair has been growing back since treating those areas. The biggest concern now is her ears. She does not have wax in her ears but more so a thickening of the skin and flakiness (in her ears). She's also losing some hair on the side of her ear. I have not noticed any bronzing in the areas you mentioned, however, she started limping a little, but that comes and goes - especially after I give her a "treatment" bath with shampoo and apple cider vinegar. I will do a thorough look for bronzing on her paws.
      Regarding the neem oil in her ears, I mixed it in with coconut oil and used a cotton swap to rub it on the flap of her ears and squeezed a little to drop into her inner ear. Sir, am I doing this correctly?

Vet recommended bravecto and next guard but want to go the holistic route. I’m switching to fresh food but in the meantime I’m going to do your 1:4 ratio with neem oil. Can I apply it and leave it on until the next day and just re apply it everyday for a week total or should I be washing it off everyday after 3 hours or so with the Castile or oatmeal shampoo? I want to make sure this doesn’t keep spreading. Thanks for your help.

      Than I'd follow up with same treatment 1 week later and that's it. No more Mange mites. Hair will grow back in a month or so... and look great with fresh food in the mix.

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  Рік тому

      Ah, the Kelpie, my childhood working farm dog, can't say enough good things about them. Yes it will work but 1:10 mix.
      Diet wants to be fresh food only ie raw green tripe is best puppy food and raw diet generally. If going kibble, it wants to be at least 50% fresh food.
      General diet advice:
      If you feed kibble, the best thing to do first is remove 50% of the kibble from the bowl and replace with raw eggs (best) soft boiled (ok) and preferably organic, canned sardines (in plain water with skin & bone intact: 12 Pack Sardines - amzn.to/3vaXrj6), some part cooked and blended veggies like broccoli, kale, green beans, spinach, brussel sprouts, bok choy etc and some meat proteins such as chicken meat, even better.
      If not liking to prepare vegetables then these freeze dried greens are antioxidant packed to help protect cells from free radical damage, cellular repair, support immunity, joints, skin issues, heart and eye health: Core Immune CARE Greens: shrsl.com/3uv18
      Now your dogs getting live enzymes, probiotics, Omega 3 oils, the highest quality proteins and nutritional assimilation from eggs (100%), and antioxidants, minerals and vitamins from vegetables.
      Always add a quality probiotic to improve digestion and gut health: (skin issues/yeast/itchy dogs) use this one: amzn.to/3yoURqU and for all other dogs use this one: shrsl.com/3uv7l
      If you want an excellent, VERY low carbohydrate kibble at just 5%, (high carbohydrates cause chronic inflammation, with itchy skin, yeast, poor gut health, ear infection, UTI's and hot spots, and nearly all kibbles are 40+% carbs!).
      Ketona has high protein at 47% (dogs thrive on proteins), correct fats at 15% and natural additives, so have a look at Ketona Kibble: healthydogforlife.com/KetonaKibble. I recommend still adding the fresh foods even with the best kibble.
      By introducing fresh foods, really lowering carbs use, introducing greens, omega 3's, proteins and a better more suitable kibble, your dog will respond with healing and improved health over the next 12 weeks.
      Some must do's:
      Zero vaxx once adult (auto immune disease issues rife from over vaccination)
      If Rabies is mandatory, use Protect after shots: (Humic & Fulvic acid) amzn.to/33P2P1i
      Very low carbs in diet, 10% or less (cause of inflammation, poor gut health and later, cancer)
      No vet drugs, there's effective natural alternatives (always!)
      Feed a healthier diet with at least 50% fresh food in it.
      NO white foods ie white rice, potato, pasta..
      Yes, clean beds, bedding after coating the pup up.

      If there's mites involved this is your treatment. If there's yeast involved, you need to look at diet and supplements. If it's both, then you need both this treatment and a thorough look at diet and supplements.
      Generally what happens is low immune system due to poor diet and vet drugs which leads to mange and further health issues.
      What you don't need is the vet drugs, the bravecto and the dermatologist... for obvious reasons really.. and they'll never fix what they don't understand is the issue. I already understand the issues just from what you have said above.

    Hi Dan, I recently adopted a 4 month old shih tzu maltese mix and since first few days last month I noticed she was itching a lot so got her to the vet diagnosed with mange got her antibiotics, omega oil pills for dry skin etc, have showered and combed out dried skin but it hasn't improved much. I'm going to follow your advise. We've stopped feeding her dry food and everything containing salt. As a SE Asian with tonnes of tropical food available, we feed her plain steamed rice mixed with natural yogurt we make at home with boiled chicken or hard boiled eggs alternating sometimes with a little butter or ghee is that ok? She also loves eating raw tomatoes, cucumber, water chest nuts, carrots, fruits, potatoes.

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  5 місяців тому +2

      Definitely stop the white rice, makes dog itchy, bad for organs. Everything else is fine except potatoes, keep carbs low!
      Also start small amounts of raw egg and build up so it's all raw as there's 30% extra nutrition from raw. Mash/crush or blend the veg/fruits to digest better. Replace the carbs with more eggs, meats and canned sardines in water are good to. NO vaccinations going forward either.

    Hi Dan,
    I have a 5 month old frenchie who was diagnosed with demodex and Vet told me it could have been passed on from mother. My concern was him giving it to my other frenchie who I have at home but so far it doesnt seem like he has gotten it. We he is already on his second shot of Ivermectin but his condition looks a little worse now I am not sure if it takes time or if maybe the medicine isn't helping. I purchased Happy Jack Mange Dip but havent tried it yet. My concern is he will always have to live with it and wont ever get better. Is this even curable? will i have to change his diet?

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  6 місяців тому

      I've no idea about Ivermectin or that JM dip. However, I do know about this remedy and it works for mange outbreaks, just follow the video instructions (also written in the notes under the video).
      So yes, it's curable but you must then focus on the diet being more healthy with fresh food in the mix, so there balance in the skin. And no more vaccs either, that does not help.

      You can dab on some neat in the usual places fleas land on the dog. Or you can mix 1tsp neem oil to 4 tsp carrier oil like olive, also add a few drops of eucalyptus oil if needing more pleasant smell. Mix well and apply to neck, belly, general underside, basically everywhere fleas attack. Fleas won't come near or live more than a few hours if touching neem.

    Hi Dr.Dan, I'm hoping you can help me. I can't get my dog into the vet until next Saturday. About a week ago I noticed he was chewing on the back of his hind leg quite a bit and upon inspection I saw it was missing fur and red raw! I put his donut (pillow cone) on right away to stop his suckling/chewing of the leg but unfortunately I cant leave it on him when I work as its a hazard to leave him unattended like that. The next afternoon he has licked all around his pelvis and testicles. It was all red a missing fur and small bumps. I combed through his whole body with my fingers and found small bumps under the skin going up his back and sides & some scabs on his neck where he could scratch with his rear nails. I called out of work for a week and have been monitoring him 24/7. Did an aloe/oatmeal/hypoallergenic bath. My first thought was that he had an allergic reaction or skin infection. Idk if you have heard of Fiskes Skin & Wound Salve, but it is safe to use on horse and hound and helps heal or prevent skin infections from open wounds. Since he had some small raw bumps i applied that salve to his entire affected areas and spot treated his back/neck. He goes through waves between naps where he doesnt try to lick at all and other times where he will still try to lick at his leg despite the donut cone. Luckily since Ive been monitoring him he hasnt been able to lick like before and the raw bumps on his private parts have either scabbed over or the scabs have already fallen off and skin healed. I know this isnt a cure but I'm just wondering if this issue sounds like sarcoptic mites to you? Unfortunately he has been on meloxadin for 2 years now. he only gets it once every 72hours because it is hard on the kidneys. He has severe arthritis and a medical condition where his throat muscles tighten up causing breathing attacks if he doesnt get the meloxadin every 3 days. I know vet drugs can be dangerous and cause a lot of harm down the road (like kidney failure) but i was always told quality over quantity when it comes to the dogs health and i never knew what my other options were. I just wanted to help him. Now I'm paranoid this skin issue is linked to something more serious like cancer, kidney failure, etc. 😔
