Every band member wrote songs in Queen. Of the songs you've covered, Freddy wrote Bohemian Rhapsody and Somebody to Love, Brian May (guitar) wrote We will Rock You, and John Deacon (bass) wrote this song.

We obviously come at music from different eras and perspectives. I saw both The Beatles and Queen live. There is no "best" of any group or singer because it all depends on your taste and where you're coming from. The different technologies available at the time of each band made big differences too.
Even within Queen the four had different tastes, Freddie - classical, rock, opera, gospel.... Brian - Hendrix, folk, The Beatles....Deacon - soul, funk, blues and progressive rock like " Yes"....Taylor - Mitch Mitchell, Hendrix and heavier rock. That's what made their music so varied. They even threw in vaudeville and dance hall styles.
Whatever you like personally is special to you and that's what matters. Cheers. :)

Freddie contributed but not as much as he used to because he was so sick. RIP Freddie...absolute best!

@@AriaIsara I'm certain that Freddie "knew" he had HIV, even though, like you say, he wasn't tested until 1987. By the mid-80s, Freddie's former lovers from the 1970s were starting to die of AIDS. And around 1985, a Lady Friend of Freddie's described an incident at his house: He cut himself shaving - so there was a little bit of blood, you know - and she came in the bathroom to help... She said he totally PANICKED/ordered her out of the bathroom. (Because at that time, they didn't know exactly how the HIV virus was transferred)

John Deacon is the official writer of this song, the bands bass player. Brian and Roger weren't really into it at first bc they didnt love the whole disco funk sound, but Freddie poored his heart and all of his energy into singing this. And he is a main reason why this song was so popular, not only is a kick ass bass line, but the vocals are ear shattering, especially on record, he also is singing a lot higher than one might think bc it sounds so masculine. Also, they originally weren't going to release this song as a single, but they played it live a little and Michael Jackson was actually in the audience and he was able to go backstage and they hung out and MJ told them that they should release it as a single, it's really good, so they did, and it ended up being one of the biggest songs of all time.

"Another One Bites the Dust" was written by Queen's bassist, John Deacon, around 1980 and was influenced by his time hanging out with disco group, Chic. Interesting tidbit about this tune, it might not have never been released if not for Michael Jackson talking the band into including it on the band's 1980 studio LP, "The Game." This song along with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" were huge hits for Queen, both reaching No. 1 in the US.
This live version is from Queen's '86 performance at Wembley, and there were several rumors surrounding the band, one of which, that they were on the verge of breaking up, most likely put out there by the British tabloids. Freddie Mercury and Queen had a very tumultuous relationship with the British tabloids, especially around this time until Mercury's death.

To be a frontman, you must be fearless. And Freddie left any fears off the side of the stage.
This song was written by the bass player as he watched Freddie Mercury wake up and get rid of all of the fake friends that had gathered around him. When Freddie stopped doing drugs and shed all of the fake friends, he was nearly ruthless about it. Left some on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere while he dropped some in the middle of traffic. He had a "handler" from CBS who borded a flight they were both supposed to be on, Freddy snuck off and waved at him as the plane pulled away.

The bass player had this half written song lying around from way back about cowboys.
He's like that's a bit silly, so he took away some lyrics and added some new ones then took it to the rest of the band, and voila!

as always with Queen the melody was important not the lyrics

John Deacon originally wrote this about a western showdown (hence "Another One Bites The Dust") but at suggestion he tweaked it to be more "modern" but it's still essentially about gun warfare.
As for some of the bands biggest hits and the principal songwriter:
Another Bites The Dust/Under Pressure/I want to Break Free/You're My Best Friend - John Deacon (bass)
    Don't Stop Me Now/Killer Queen/Bohemian Rhapsody/Somebody To Love/Bicycle Race/We Are The Champions/Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Freddie Mercury (vocals/piano)
Radio Gaga/A Kind of Magic - Roger Taylor (Drums/vocals)
Now I'm Here/We Will Rock You/Fat Bottomed Girls/Who Wants To Live Forever - Brian May (guitar/vocals)
This list is far from exhaustive. I just tried to include their most iconic tracks. Later in their career tracks started becoming much more of a joint effort and were credited to the entire band.

Loved your reaction, it was so funny when VIn covered Sori's eyes! Also amusing was Sori's comment "he is such a unique person in his expressions of himself", with her eyes sparkling. We totally understand what she means: HE WAS SEXY!!!

If you want to explore Freddie's range, and are up for a bit of a departure from 'rock', you can do no better than to watch Freddie and Monserrat Caballe ( who sadly passed a few weeks go) sing 'Barcelona'.

Queen - Innuendo, as others are requesting is one of their best. he was ill when this was recorded but Queen still prod
uced one of their best albums also called Innuendo. Shows his range more on this song.

John Deacon wrote Another One Bites the Dust. This is about when one of the guys probably John and then girlfriend broke up the relationship. In discussing the situation with the band members John says Another One Bites the Dust and they said that's a cool line for a lyric hence this song by John Deacon.

S.O.D. is completely tongue in cheek. I feel like that entire album (and the second one) stand up today. It was obvious that's not how the band members (other than Billy Milano) actually felt. I think even M.O.D. was supposed to be mostly satire until Billy lost his mind and went full on racist.

This was the song that finally broke America for them. It was at number one for months.
It resonated most with African Americans, a lot bought tickets to see them and was shocked when a pasty white English band was on stage.

Telling you from the technical view on that "delay" of the crowd. I think they record the crowd from the stage. If you hear him sing on the PA (Speaker System) and maybe also if you are in the back so you already hear him delayed, so you get delayed reaction already and when you record this on the stage, the delayed reaction need also to travel to stage. I think thats why it sounds off.
