    Please help me out by liking the video! If you want early access to new content, consider becoming a member.
    Note: ALWAYS leave yourself plenty of room to expand. You can build up to 12 Coal generators now (and you should), but soon you can scale this up to 24 (or more) with very little effort. Plan accordingly if you want things to look organized!

    I personally play the game at a slow pace, and aside from the initial rush to get to coal power for the sake of automation, I am not concerned with pumping out vast quantities of of items and racing to get the ship parts launched, whether it takes it 2 or 20 hours to finish a phase is of no consequence to me. My advice to others who are new to the game and enjoy a similar play-style, use the "waiting time" of ship part production to do some exploring. Mercer spheres, Somersloops, and especially hard drives quickly become very important commodities. Hard drives unlock alternate recipes, which can be critical in creating production lines that can be more efficient, less resource intensive, and/or more suited to what resources you have available. The loot you get from crash sites is also much more valuable in the early game, allowing you to do MAM research with items that you can not otherwise create yourself yet.

    15:00 Just underclock the two water extractors to 75%. Then they produce exactly the right amount of water and do it for less power per liter.

    Good stuff. I am glad you mentioned about using Noodle piping. I also will use Horizontal to Vertical as I have never had a problem with those if used in the right way. But I have seen problems often with Auto and Auto2. Typical when using floor holes which I always do so there is that.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  2 місяці тому

      Those are pretty much the only two modes for pipes I use as well. I'm sure there's a use case for the auto modes, but they seem least consistent to me.

    Appreciate the time and effort in putting this series together. I found this coal setup dead easy, with zero flow problems, unlike the 3:8 setups. I would like to see how it is expanded. Not sure if that is in a later video. Liked!

    I find the early coal plant fluctuations are usually the water taking forever to equalize, rather than the coal.
    Some patience is required, either way :)

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  2 місяці тому +3

      If you use the 2:1 ratio for the pumps/generators that fixes the balancing completely. Personally I just leave the pumps like that, but if you want you can start them up - fill the generators - and then just underclock them to rebalance to the perfect ratio.
      ...Says the guy who spent WAY too much time making his 8:3 ratio builds work......

      @SkepticalWise 2 місяці тому

      @@TheDutchActuary Ive tried a few rebuilds on the 8:3 coal plants and always have water issues, even after letting everything fill up before starting. Ruin my efficiency by throwing in a 4th extractor to make it work before I do something else

    • @FalconDS9
      @FalconDS9 2 місяці тому +1

      @@SkepticalWise theres a simple fix for that. 2 extractors fill the first 4-5 coal plants, still connected to all 8 with one pipe. but the 3. extractor needs its own separate pipe that you tap in to the first pipe after the 4. or 5. coal plant. that tops off the first pipe at its end and equalizes everything. flow mechanic, water is able to flow backwards in its pipe as well and consumers lower the pressure.

    • @stjinks
      @stjinks 2 місяці тому

      @@TheDutchActuary I realized my biggest issue was that I was using piping manifolds above my connection point - this leads to a lot of strange flow conditions, and uneven distribution.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Місяць тому +1

      @@stjinks Yeah the water flows are... weird in this game. Realistic maybe (not really sure about that honestly) but I found a lot of things get easier if you have inputs coming from about rather than below *or* you buffer the system to full before you turn it on.

    I struggle with balancing the coal. The first two coal generators have 100 coal spare but the last two have always max. 1 coal... how can I balance this out?

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Місяць тому +2

      This happens because the first few are ' buffering ' a stack of coal. It takes a while for this to sort itself out.
      Easy way to speed this up: shut the generators off for a while (there is an 'off' button if you click on the building) and let the back generators fill up. Then then them on again and they *should* keep running smoothly, as long as you're bringing in enough coal.

    Does coal have any other uses apart from power generation?
    After watching your previous video, I discovered some coal nodes in land, then set up a few miners and a biomass burner, laying a conveyor belt all the way back to my base in readiness. Then... I watched this video 😔
    I should have watched it first, now I know you also need water I will be copying your coal power plants.

    • @TheDutchActuary
      @TheDutchActuary  Місяць тому +1

But if you place a few pillars as support, not only does it look realistic, I actually think it looks a lot BETTER than trying to build on the floor (after all, who would build their factory in the middle of rock formations in real life? That's one landslide away from having no more factory)

      @@TheDutchActuary coal power is always a hughe roadblock for new players. they realy need a very detailed video for this, so much that could go wrong. and for that reason, sticking to the classic 8:3 setup would be the best for a tutorial. at least in my opinion.

      @@FalconDS9 The thing is, 8:3 actually makes the coal MORE complicated than 8:4 (or specifically, 4:2) as the pipe setup becomes *much* easier. Straight dead-end lines actually work!
