One common complaint I've had with Satisfactory tutorials on UA-cam is that most don't take the time to properly explain or show you what you're meant to be doing each step of the way. Imagine my joy on finding this, one of the best tutorials I've seen done and although I haven't progressed enough for the MK 2 Plumbing, this factory is still a huge advancement on the piddly bio-fuel setup I had prior to building it and has made my Satisfactory life much easier. Your work and detail in this video was a delight to follow and if you have any more tutorials planned on other factory builds I would be most eager to return to build and comment on those as well. Thank you so much, this video was greatly appreciated and so are you for making it.
Man really love your simplified tutorials. You don't even know how helpfull is your tip about letting generators fill up totally then water extrators fill fully so I can work the gens right away after connecting them...it's so smart so simple yet so efficient. Gonna use this tip forever in life .
I really like the design, but a nitpick would be to make it work with mk1 pipes (very possible), and mk2 belts, since that's what's available when this setup is most useful without mods. (Right at the start of T3)
I've done a very similar build, much more messy though but same concept. What you can do with mk1 pipes is to actually backfeed the system by hooking the ends of each sides pipes up to each other, instead of a standard separated staggered design like this. That helps getting the water to run smoothly to the last generators as well. So basically, with this specific layout he's doing in the video, you'd feed the two separate pipes up to feed one for each side, then in the other end at bottom extractor floor, you merge the ends of the two pipes together into one pipe, feed that up, split it once up there and connect to the end of each sides feed. So you basically feed the whole system with 3 pipes instead of two.
it can be done with mk1 just by making a curve upwards from the penultimate to the antepenultimate and from the second to the third, this with every 8 generators and on the other side you repeat the same
So I heard him say that it doesn't work with the mk1 pipes as well, i'm gonna be honest I put them to mk1 to test it and it's been running for like 20+ hours without issues and all of them still being full at water all the time
Quick question, i let the conveyer belts fill up, fill up all the coal generators with coal, but the last 2 still dont get enough coal in general, do you know how to fix this?
To do this with Mk1 pipes, turn the water extractors around 180 degrees. Build your pipe manifold just like normal, one junction for each generator. Then add a junction between generators 2 &3, one junction between 4&5, and one junction between 6&7. Feed a pipe directly from each extractor in to these new junctions. Each extractor will need its own pump.
For the record, you can still do this with mk1 pipes but you're going to have to double up the water pumps and run them as a separate line with 3 pumps to 4 generators. I did this at the lagoon while working with the 4 coal nodes and turning it in to the regional water pump station as well.
3 pumps work fine for 8 generators but you need to run the pipes up at both ends since mk1 pipes can only handle the output of 2 1/2 pumps (at standard speed) which will only feed 6 2/3 generators (at standard speed). Just add a pipe, with a pump, between the first extractor and the last generator in each set of 3 extractors + 8 generators so you get a loop. (But with the pumps facing opposite directions, all pumping upwards.)
Mk1 pipe compatible Join the 2 pipes in the back (wall opposite of conveyor) and run it straight up with 1 pipe and 1 pump. split it on the top floor into 2 pipes and connect them to the 2 unconnected ends on the 2nd floor.
Just wow. This worked perfectly and the big plus is it saves land real estate for other buildings. It looks amazing and when it turned on it just started working. So cool. TY!
In my server, I did this build and added power storage in the lower area (in all three areas except the water pipes). Helps fill in the empty space and makes the whole power plant feel a bit more 'industrious.'
11:42 a way to fix that is to try and connect the pipe from the ground to the curve WITHOUT connecting to the roof role connector before. It will clip and you can put the role there afterwards. It used to work, not sure if they fixed it
Very well done, i was looking at other guides, but yours was exactly the one that i wanted. i just wished it was possible with MK1 pipes. Also, it would be cool, if you could announce the use of shop items beforehand. Because of this, i had to stop in the middle of the build, because i didn't have certain parts.
You don't actually NEED Mk2 pipes. Mk1 pipes will work just fine: use two pumps to split the output of the middle extractor (and max fill the pipes), and send two pipes to opposite ends of a generator row, 4 generators per pipe. In this configuration, it'd be better to place the pumps on the vertical pipes up. Pipes show headlift now when placing pumps, so use that cue. Also, through-wall power connectors work on thin foundations, so you can wire them through the floor & use the underside of your upper platform.
I do a similar build for my coal-plant. I just rotate the water extractor 180°, put pipe-floorholes infront of every coal generator and connect them underneath. That way you can easily do the piping depending on what pipes and power shards you have.
I stopped playing Satisfactory, cause there wasn't any decent descriptions ingame about how to utilize or properly make the coal-generators work. I see I need to try getting Mk2 pipes to get the water upwards. How do you turn the pipes in a 90 degree angle? Side Question: Should we use or build Fluid Containers too? to store up excess water for when the extractor goes offline due to you overloading the grid? or are Fluid Containers not worth it?
hm ... i build this 1:1 but but it only works to a limited extent. my pumps goes on, off, on, off and the water goes slowly down in 1-2 of my coal power plant. 🧐 i try this with overclock and 1-2 extra water pumps but still the same problem. idk :(
Loved this, more so because I have my factory in this very location and was just going to start my power plant build right where u found the coal. So, this video will help me a lot. THANKSSS!!
Nicely done! When working through all the tiers that was one of the two spots I used for a coal power plant. Now that I've got a large diulted fuel power plant, I got rid of my 2nd coal plant and just have the one in same spot as yours. Mine is perpendicular to yours and uses the one pure coal node that's just south of that lake. Using mk3 miner slightly overclocked to have a full mk5 belt of 780 for a 3900mw plant. It's a great spot for coal power!
I didn't even know there was an option for laying piping VERTICALLY... Cause so many designs would be MORE effective that way. Then again I've just hitting the 150 hour mark and STILL learning the basics.
Nice vid. My critique would be to flip the design so that the generators run off a central feed for both coal and water, so in essence flipping the coal generators for the feed to be in the centre rather than at the edges. I connect the water at both ends with only 2 pumps and in that way only need Mk 1 pipes.
What's pretty crazy is I put my coal plant literally in the exact same spot. I am using 12 all overclocked for 1600 mws and have it set up in a building floating over the water. My water pumps are floating behind the building. I also used all mk. 3 belts and lifts to keep the coal coming in fast enough. Been working good so far. 👍
just made it halfway through the video building this thing and didnt know i needed mark 2 pipes which i dont have, RIP my time i guess, for future videos if you could mention what is needed before you start the tutorial, it would be appreciated!
I honestly don't understand why people insist on putting coal generators on TOP of water extractors forcing you to use pumps, just turn the water extractors around and do 8 either side straight on, sure it takes up more space but infinitely better water flow and much easier to setup.
@@GrimmDZ he's on a normal node. Miner mk1 I think the coal generators don't burn that much per min. But works have been good to add to video if he's over clocked or not
Each coal generator consumes 15 coal per minute. A mk1 miner on a normal mode generates 60 coal per minute, or enough to feed 4 generators. This can all be done on mk1 belts. Mk1 miner on a pure node generates generates 120 units per minute, enough to feed 8 generators. Requires mk2 belts up to the first splitter. Mk2 miner on a normal node also generates 120 units. Mk2 miner on a pure node generates 240 units per minute, enough to feed 16 generators. Requires mk3 belts.
Thanks for sharing the design. I like the look of your design with the full frame windows. NOTE: you can make this design work with Mk 1 Pipes. You simply have to put a second set of pumps on the opposite side to feed the the upper pipes from the other end of the pipe.
Can you explain how? because the MK1 pumps already have the issue that the transport height is greater than the pumps can handle (22m for me, but the pumps can only do 20m). What exactly do i need to do with the Mk1 pipes?
@@Etherion195 I believe headlift is calculated from the elevation of the center of the pump. Try moving your pump to the vertical portion of the pipe. The water extractors themselves have 10 meters of lift, so as long as the pump is less than 10 m above them, and less than 20m below the highest pipe in your system, you should be good.
Only start a couple of coal generators at a time. This way you don't need much power to get system running. As coal generators are started, they then can get other generators going.
Hey quick question, when I split the conveyer belt multiple times the last coal generator or two is barely even on half the time (doesn’t get the coal). Do you have any fixes/how many resource nodes should the coal supply come from. (This is probably a dumb question but I’m pretty new to the game, and do not fully understand how each part works)
A coal generator requires 15 coal per minute, so a series of 8 generators will require 120 coal per minute. Make sure you are feeding at least that much to the system and that you are using mk2 or higher belts. Using splitters in a series like this will feed 1/2 of your input (60 coal) to the first generator. Then the 2nd splitter will feed 1/2 of that (30 coal) to the 2nd generator, and so on. The last generators will not get much...at first. However, eventually the first generator will get saturated because it's receiving 60 coal and only using 15. Once that happens, the first splitter will pass 105 coal to the 2nd generator, since genny 1 only takes the 15 that it needs to operate. When genny 2 becomes saturated it will pass 90 coal, and this will continue down the line until the first 6 generators are saturated and the last splitter sends 15 coal per minute to each of the last two generators. It takes a long time for the first 6 generators to become saturated (around 30 minutes), so I like to manually feed 100 coal to each generator to get the system up and running faster. Side note, in a video I saw, smart splitters actually reach saturation faster than normal splitters when using the fastest belt you can throughout the system. Set each smart splitter to have one belt putting out coal, and one belt set to overflow (3rd belt not attached so it shouldn't matter, but I always set it to none)
I used all mark 1 pipes with my build, and I used 14 coal gens, only issues was me forgetting to hook up two plants. Otherwise I’m on 6 hours with no hiccups. Would recommend all mk 2 belts or higher. Including between splitters
I believe the default button for changing build modes is "R". Different things can have different build options. Elevators can be built in reverse, pipes have 4 different modes, etc
I'm just not getting the same results. Sure, if you turn off the generators and fill them up, you will achieve 1200 power when you turn them back on, but I don't see how this can continue in the long term. A mk2 belt only carries 120 max. If this belt is split to fed 8 generators on both sides that means 60 coal each side. That is enough to power 4 generators, while the other 4 occasionally kick in. Or am I just missing something?
A mk2 miner generates 240 units per minute on a pure node. You need mk3 belts to carry 240 units. If you use mk2 belts, you can only move 120 units per minute.
Nice setup but I would have used both coal mines that are available in that area and run them up the sides. That way you can use Mk 2 belts for each, overclock each miner to 120, and then separate the water extractors to three each and be able to use the Mk 1 pipes.
Love the design. I used concrete walls instead of the concrete foundations for the pillars, and moved the pipes inside to there, which dose not need a turn at the top.
If you want to get rid of the wonky floor hole pipe, just pull the pipe straight through the floor, and use the pipe hole as a decorative piece so it doesn't look like you pulled a pipe straight through a floor :P
Did i miss something? Coal plant requires 50 per generator, and it's 120 per extractor, so i finished the whole thing with mk2 lines, with mk1 lines feeding from the mk2s into the coal generators, and i'm short water
Thanks a lot! Great video and give me lots fruit for thought! How do you manage to "fly"...I am up to Tier 3 so far, looks like I won't be able to do anything like this, don't even have concrete foundation
You can just use other foundations until you unlock the concrete variant in the Awesome Shop. I didn't have the flight mod Wa_zz uses either, I just built a ramp for getting up to the roof and had no trouble constructing the power plant from there at tier 3/4. Believe me, the version I built was lacking MK-2 pipes and two water extractors. Still got a solid 900W out of it which was so much better than the crappy bio-fuel setup I was struggling to keep stocked.
Great tutorial. Used your first one to get me to T5 and scaled up to this one after getting MK2 plumbing. Hope you do more stuff now that Update 7/8 has dropped and we can do blueprints.
emm consernig the power you can use the beam barely above the strucure and it look allot better if you use the double outlet mk what ever you whant, to stick to the beam make it look allot better.
Why do you state that you need Mk. 2 lifts? Coal plants only consume 15 coal per minute, and will only be at 25% saturation on a Mk. 1 belt. You need Mk. 2 for the main line of coal, but not past each splitter.
Sub # 943 here.... just wanted to say I like your simplicity and tutorial style with this basic stuff. The way you explain everything is easy to follow and the little tidbits of intel [ i.e. - hitting R to change build style, etc.] are VERY valuable to newcomers to the game. Looking forward to more content from you. I liked and subbed and see you later! 🤓👍
You can use Mk 1 pipes if you connect both sides the same way so water comes in the coalplants from opposite sides. You also don't need a pump on a horizontal level. You only need them to overcome headlift....that's 10 m for a level 1 pump.
Your videos have really helped me in this game for the new update 8 you should really come back and make some crazy farms and teach us your ways my brain is just to slow to keep track of the parts so I be following guides lol
To avoid having to turn off each power generator just connect the pumps to power but not the generators, once they fill up with water connect them to power.
Thank you for clarifiying what are the requirements for mk belts and pipes in the beguinning of the video, now I have a fully unfunctionnal coal plant since most people who watched this video dont have acces to mk 2 pipes and mk 3 conveyor belts. Just made me waste 2 hours of my day
That's really a nice and clean design, portable on different situations on the map. Video is pretty clear, and also have showed to me how to build better and faster (unfortunately looks like to build with some confort everyone need to install the fly Mod, game is almost perfect, but at this point Devs should think about give us this feature by game default). Compliments, really. Just small questions, please: are all the pumps not overclocked? i'm fresh one in game, just 100 hours, so i got belts Mk2 but pipes Mk1, and two modes of coal available in my location (starter biome, the big lake down. I can overclock both nodes at max if needed. Can you please give also the measurement of the square? 9 on one and and how much the other? i'm try to build everything aligned on the map grid, so i had to plan a little bit more.
I've made a very similar looking one myself. Though not as pretty... Not very good at design here :D But I did mine in a location with 4 Coal Nodes. All with Mk.2 Miners. So its basically twice the size. I first tried doing it with splitters in the middle but found that there was less power outages with splitters just going to one generator. I also put the gens inside so only the smoke stacks are outside of the building.
different build...cool! A bit of constructive criticism for your videos...watch for words or phrases that you repeat a lot. It can become annoying to the viewer over extended periods. This was something I learned when I first got started here on YT, as it was pointed out to me. Also, to help others out, give more specific instructions. Instead of throw a few foundations out just like this...tell them to put 8 foundations in a row like I am doing here. Keep it up. :)
You got to be really far into the game to be able to get the m2 pipes and basically should be moving onto oil by then and I build this and get hardy any power not sure what’s going on

I used all mark 1 pipes with my build, and I used 14 coal gens, only issues was me forgetting to hook up two plants. Otherwise I’m on 6 hours with no hiccups. Would recommend all mk 2 belts or higher. Including between splitters
What was your build? I just need to know how to make it work with MK1 pipes
Nice simple setup. In my live streams I just built a 14,000MW coal plant from a 480 coal feed and the refined power mod.
Thanks a alot for this! What mod did you use for building multiple foundation blocks? Looks very smooth when you build. :D
Not a mod. It's a new feature called "Zoop" introduced in Update 5. You can build up to 10 foundations and walls at once, really nice!
I believe the default button for changing build modes is "R". Different things can have different build options. Elevators can be built in reverse, pipes have 4 different modes, etc
What is the dimensions of the top floor?
One big fix i found was just to make 2 more water extractors until you get mk2 pipes but make the 2 their very own system.
How you actually fly on the sky? What mode is it?
I'm just not getting the same results. Sure, if you turn off the generators and fill them up, you will achieve 1200 power when you turn them back on, but I don't see how this can continue in the long term. A mk2 belt only carries 120 max. If this belt is split to fed 8 generators on both sides that means 60 coal each side. That is enough to power 4 generators, while the other 4 occasionally kick in. Or am I just missing something?
So if I have a mk 2 miner on two pure nodes with mk 2 belts I can double this layout??
Yes
A mk2 miner generates 240 units per minute on a pure node. You need mk3 belts to carry 240 units. If you use mk2 belts, you can only move 120 units per minute.
if you do it like this the coal and water backs up, witch doesnt look good if you have it in sight..
Can you also do oil setup one time? Would be nice
Made a new save in the Rocky Desert just so my water source wasn’t ~2,000 meters away. Was in Grass Fields.
You do a great job. Post more videos with Satisfactory!
I don't understand why this works. A pipe can only transport 300m³. 8 Gens need 360m³. The last gen can't get enough. At least for me it doesn't.
Its much better to place pumps just after the first curve, and then every 20m after that.
Hey i´m waiting for more content, btw nice video
Thanks so much. I loved it and it was exactly what I needed.
Thanks a lot! Great video and give me lots fruit for thought! How do you manage to "fly"...I am up to Tier 3 so far, looks like I won't be able to do anything like this, don't even have concrete foundation
I used a mod called Just Fly, and I used a couple of other mods to essentially enable creative mode
9:15 as if you'd make a coal power plant when you have mk2 pipes 💀
Keep it up, bud! Awesome tut!
You should come back and do more tutorials if you have the time ofc. Maybe you're busy with life now.
I don't get why to use mk2 plumbing that unlocks after unlocking fuel power plant for coal power plant
Drinking game idea: Drink every time you hear "this".
Great help.We need help after 1000h none of my bulding is so efficient. Instant sub👍🏻
You can do it with mk1 pipes in you underclock every 3rd Coal Generator to 60%
those plants are SO NOT necessarily placed higher above water. gives you more problems.
they can be on almost the same height as their water pumps.
Great guide! Nicely done, thanks :)
Why do you need Mk.2 lifts? The coal generators only use 15 coal/min. Mk.1 lifts are way more than sufficient.
Thank you for clarifiying what are the requirements for mk belts and pipes in the beguinning of the video, now I have a fully unfunctionnal coal plant since most people who watched this video dont have acces to mk 2 pipes and mk 3 conveyor belts. Just made me waste 2 hours of my day
you dont need mk2 pipes to make this build work all you need to do is make the water pump in the back go up the back and attach to the line from there
Best one i have seen. Thank you!
9 on one and and how much the other? i'm try to build everything aligned on the map grid, so i had to plan a little bit more.
why the hell would we need to unlock mk.2 pipes to use on coal when we'll have oil unlocked?
i built up everything up until you nentioned mark 2 pipes, which i don't have. i feel so dumb..
Fantastic video!
Maybe say the requirement at the beginning of the video. 9 minutes in only to find out I can't even build this yet.
this is easy in third person....yet we don't have third person. I can't hover over everything and get the perfect view...or can I ?
the water fuck me every time i try to do this carbon generators, i dont understand how workds
different build...cool! Keep it up. :)
I did it with mk1 pipe
You got to be really far into the game to be able to get the m2 pipes and basically should be moving onto oil by then and I build this and get hardy any power not sure what’s going on
